I just LOVE how guys react to Fun, Cool, FAST high performance cars. THAT will never change. Rock on my hot rod friends. Rock on. Cheers Boots Langley La Mesa, ca
In the late 60's early 70's our town was full of Vegas with 427 tall deck rat motors salvaged from junked school busses. Whenever one of the guys/girls scored a Vega they would hold it till the board of ed would scrap a bus. We'd go to the bone yard with $250.00 and a flat trailer and meet at this guy's house. He had cool parents and a full shop so the whole group would come to the "party" and build a car. We built so many that we already had a ton of cross members , frame ties and cage tubes pre-made that we built each car in around 4 days. Back then we got the motors for about $250.00 and a solid Vega could be saved from the shredder for around$150.00. We were riding around in cars that after all the parts were put together we had less than$700.00 in and would run 11.20's ( flying for a street car back then). Not bad for a bunch of "broke-ass white kids!
This guy was an observer, not a real mechanic. A 427 in a Vega requires front sprins, rad, cut the driveshaft, a 400's rear end and more to be driven. That will go to thousands more and weeks in a shop. Or maybe the dummy is talking about 327's instead, but still, you need rad, and diff and thousands more, and 4 days?? LOL..
@@CFITOMAHAWK2 true .. you could keep the “Stock 10 bolt” but would eventually blow up. Lol. But they came with turbo 350 .. and would bolt right up. The Saginaw 4 speeds would blow up also. Lol.
Ya I did that once in my 71 Vega, thought I wasn't into it far enough to pull the wheels off, talk about changing a lane real quick not to mention pucker factor. I was lucky no one was beside me at the time. But that will only happen once. Lessen learned quick.
You guys rock. I have literally watched this video over 50 times. I am finally building my 3rd V8 Vega, last one was in 1988. Do you still have the Vega and if so would you possibly post a current video of it? I love the energy all of your crew has and it doesn't hurt to have a beer while enjoying a badass car. Thanks!
I built a 350 one in '83. Hit ice with it..sold it to a kid who screwed it up totally. Miss that thing. Had overdrive in it and got 27mpg. I just used 70 series tires but it was still so quick. If you put big tires on I've heard guys have popped the rear windows out off the start. You have to build up the body strength in the rear to support the torque.
@theemiliancailean its suppose to be running rich they got 350 shot of nitrous on it.nothing wrong with it ive seen it run week after week at the track and it run good numbers.
tune the suspention. going straight matters. tie sub frames in and add at least a 6 point. vegas got a sweet , short wheel base which makes them unpredictable. that engine can stand some taller gears. be safe, be well. tune to win, not wreck.
Free tip of the day, put some air in the damn tires, it's only running on the outer edges. Look at the black marks, it should leave a print all the way across on the street not just on the edges!
I used to have a ss motion Vega with factory alum block 327 4 speed in it we board ort 60 over with steel inserts so it would not burn oil it was a monster
