I recently got my own cheap, non-running '87 turbo II. I'm trying to do what you're doing, and have no idea how. Please keep this series going. I really freaking need it.
Dave Turbo and non turbo rotaries have the same apex seals. Seals don't go bad for no reason. Rotaries just don't like sitting in general. Put some atf fluid in the leading and trailing plug holes. Let it soak over night. Spin it by hand, if it turns over by hand. Crank her up. If you have a stuck seal press on it though the exhaust ports. Sometimes you can free them up. 🤙🏾
I ran Klotz in my old FC. It's a very high quality oil to use for premix and smelled awesome. It never fouled the plugs. Throw a quart in every fill up to make the engine last much longer. It's definitely not cheap adding a high quality oil to every tank but it really makes these cars run much better and longer.
Welcome to the FC family my guy! Mine isn't a TII, but still welcome! Definitely keep this series going, and for us kther FC guys please post links in the descriptions for any parts you find/use. Cheers! Sincerely, some guy with an '87 that still runs and drives at 155k miles
I just rescued an 86. It hadn't been on the road for 19 years. When it finally started, I was very excited. Luckily mine was stored in a garage underneath a car cover.
Finished building mine a couple months ago. From someones backyard dying 2 or 3 years ago to Proper drift car now. Good luck man the finished product is so worth it
My first fc had 190000 miles on it. But what happens is some s4s odometer gears are too small so they read wayyyy more miles than what’s actually driven. Good find man
i had an 86 turbo that was mint...black with terra cotta interior...my all time fav car! fast, beautiful with a wicked turbo surge and whistle.. 12 mpg, no antilocks, no pwr steering... miss it
omg man im in love. i daily an 88 gxl. my car is the same thing except for the turbo. s4, 5 lug, big brakes power everything. also, theres a drain plug on the lower right of the gas tank...
I finally found this video! months and months looking for "cleaning my rx7" and "old guy cleaning red rx7" LMAO ... finally find and activate the notifications
Makes me want to get my 1989 NA FC out of storage. I rebuilt the engine just before i stored it - 2 brand new rotor housings, 2 used rotors (new bearings), and all new seals.
I felt deja vu while watching this video. just revived an S4 manual trans, GTU about 8 months ago but It was sitting for over 12 years. Had to replace all of the fuel system (clean gas tank, new fuel level sensor, pump, fuel filter, all 4 injectors) but it ran well after that and I couldn’t believe it especially after all of the rotary horror stories. That gooey residue in the windshield is from the dash cooking in the desert sun and decomposing you’ll need a new dash as that one is done. I would still do a compression test to see if there are any seals going bad if they are all good and it runs rough check for vacuum leaks which these are notorious for dry rotted vacuum lines.
Just found your channel, that car looks more like it sat for 10-15 than 5 years! Oh, and Ronnie's 'tache is epic lol. Good luck with the car, can't be many in original shape as that looks in the first couple of minutes.
you should keep it stock dude, keep the patina on it, and keep the wheels, but go over the engine and get it running like new again. Maybe restore the interior back to stock but not so nasty. That would be so sick. It is so rare to find unmodded cars like this, you really should keep it stock.
Cars like these are becoming so valuable and extremely hard and rare to find interior parts and stock parts just like my aw11 mr2 these cars running good and clean untouch will shoot for a lot of money but I just enjoy the fact I got something a lot of people don’t have in original condition worn but still worth a lot more than cut panels and fatted out tires everyone has there taste but honestly I see this and I get to think dam how it must have looked like in the 80s coming out of the dealership who drove it how it ended up there that’s something now every moded car can keep once done is better than touched. Tbh I say clear coat the time machine and fix the important stuff and keep it respectful to its history
I had the same situation with my fuel tank. Car sat for over 3 years with a full tank of gas. I drained it all out and then took some muriatic acid with water and a bag of ice and shook that all around. It cleaned all the surface rust out of the tank after a few rounds of that.
80 year old neighbor had one sitting in his yard for 40 years and I asked him how much he’d want for it, he told me I can have it for free, so glad I asked :)
Hope you get it running.i had a 79 that ran great till i went off roading in it lol ended up leaving it in the woods.went back 15 years later and the body is still there and no engine.lol
A turbo II, no less! I had an '86, '87, two '88s and a '93 R-1. Not the fastest things out there, but a ton of fun. Looking forward to the rest of this one.
I am happy for you that you was able to find this hard to find FC I've seen 1 of these in my area with an LS engine but the turbo2 very very hard to find and restored it will be worth thousands
Good find! How much did the car cost? Plz keep this going. You always see sick fcs on youtube but you rarely see the less glamorous side of owning a rotary in a 30+ year old car and I think it could help alot of people (myself included).
Bro luv the channel , awesome platform love fc's lol. For future reference tho bud if u ever run into the issue with a rotary where 1 of the rotors r stuck or whatever put automatic transmission fluid in the tank run it thru the motor and it unlocks them rather quickly. Sounds crazy but me and my bro r rotary masters lol.
that Premix ratio might be a bit too much oil for the fuel, half quart to 5gal? that's 40:1 premix.. barely any fuel getting in there! plus the OMP should/could be working, adding in even more (afaik it attempts to make it effectively a 133:1 mix when it's working correctly. even if the OMP is fully disconnected, you really shouldn't be above a 100:1 ratio, but would be fine for starting it up again after a long if its a bit thicker than that. personally I still retain my S4 OMP functionality, but add another 250:1 premix on top due to having a slightly bigger turbo. but this is a pretty cool build, keen to see more!
I never understood why people who work on fuel injected cars don't own a set of noid lights. They make life simple you plug it in and if it flashes you know you have good or bad wiring/ signal to the injector. I would be willing to bet the injectors are cloged with old fuel.
I had this problem once with one of my FC's. It was the air intake sensor. Or the mass airflow sensor if you prefer. Starting fluid would let it run for a second but then die right after.
I love how he worked on door trim and engine bay cleaning before even attempting to see if the (175,000 mile) engine would turn over! You should have installed a new stereo, headliner and floor mats while you were at it.
My first time for your channel. I enjoyed this very much. Do you only work on rotaries or also four cycle motors? I’m glad to be a subscriber. Rev your engines!
It won't run if there is a leak after the AFM, you have to have all of the intercooler piping sealed. Thats why many people ditch the stock ecu and go to haltech/microtech. Also check that the fuel pulsation damper isn't leaking!
When i had mine i would pour a half of quart of oil down the intake to boost the compression when it wouldn't start or when it was flooded and it worked everytime
Hey David so I have a RX8 which i picked up last month. It sat on front yard for 2years non running. Where did you buy Miracle oil? How much did you use in each cylinder? And also where did you buy the Lucas premix. I have already drained the gas, replaced iginition, got an upgraded starter and spark plugs which im about to do next. Any other advice getting the rx8 to start.
I think the patina is cool too, except for the bumper dents and damage- if you could find refurbished front and rear bumpers, and new hood; leave rest of the body work as is. I guess you can clear coat it all afterwards. I would also consider new glass all around if your tint specialist cant clean em up. Wheels/tires, and tuned up engine.
Got a lead on another one for ya. It's been parked for at least a year probably way longer but that's how long I've been looking at it. On Hwy 200 just north of Sidney MT on the west side of the hwy, couple miles north. Black. Looks in great condition. I don't have any contact info so you'd have to road trip. Lol. Its probably on Google earth since its been there for awhile.
I just picked up an 89 FC n/a been sitting for years! Just wondering how much marvel mystery you put into each port. I have a fuel cell as the tank right now while I clean the tank
I sure hope you checked all the air pipes before first start try. Where I live, if you let a car sit for even a couple of months you will get mice making nests in all sorts of places. Don't want mouse nest crap getting sucked into the engine. EDIT: 22:40 I guess you didn't check to begin with but checked after lol. Be careful, mice can and will chew through air filters. When’s the next update on the fiero?
It will get there just needs some love, your car came together nicely
Every time you say fc I just think of the land rover forward control
now you're going have to sell your Fiero to buy a turbo II. And after all the work you put in the Poor little pontiac....just ditch her like that?
