Mr. Bowser is exactly correct. There's an elemental simplicity to these tunes that speaks to a deep place in our hearts and in our yearnings. And also, the visual element of ShaNaNa is always a breath of fresh air that made their shows so wonderful. This clip is a great example.
I like the way all of this old footage is suddenly appearing on the net. I agree with Cheryl and her remark about the way Johnny sings this song. Can't get past the sideburns, though. Thanks for posting, it was interesting to watch!

This is just fun. Someone told me that they went to a Sha Na Na concert and at one point, they were going into the audience and brought women up to the stage for a twist contest.
Wonder if it was Sha Na Na that inspired Showaddywaddy's management and record label to nudge that band to "go oldies covers," given Sha Na Na's presence in the UK by the interview with Bowzer, Jocko and Santini (who was already balding by the time their syndicated TV show got started) and concert appearances in Odeons such as Birmingham and presumably Hammersmith. Interesting that of those three, only Jocko is with Sha Na Na today (Donny York still is, as is non-original member 'Screamin' Scott' Simon who joined the year after the Woodstock show).
Jocko! and yeah they were. Jocko was actually the youngest performer at woodstock. for some reason many sources claim it was Michael Shrieve (he was 20), Henry Gross (Sha Na Na's first lead guitarist who was gone by the time of this performance) and Jocko were both 18 (Jocko being youngest)

I thought the sideburns were too bushy and needed a trim, but I still love Johnny's singing voice!
