I am much younger but for me these guys brought best memories 😊 loved all of them. Amazing talent, great taste and sense of humour. 50's needs revival. Especially today...
I used to watch their show. These guys were so funny and very entertaining. They were great singers too.Their performances of classic rock songs were excellent.
When I was a kid, my parents would play the Grease album to get me to go to sleep. The record they played was mostly all Sha Na Na songs. THEN when i was a little older I would watch their show. Such good memories.
They put out a double lp called The Golden Age of Rock n Roll. If you take out the doo wop songs, (like the one here on Midnight Special)it’s basically the Ramones Live Alive only recorded several years earlier. These guys were each certified Ivy League genius’ but played their roles with 100% commitment. They romped through a bunch of rock n roll standards and did something most other bands at Woodstock didn’t do. They gave a high energy stage show. Dancing and jumping and coordinated or not. Absolute best ever version of Wipeout played double time. Guitarist rolling around on the stage while playing. After their 30 minute set, the band triumphantly left the stage as if they’d won the Super Bowl, fists pumping, high step prancing. They were among the best live bands of the early 1970s and my personal favorite. They hippie bands all looked, sounded and acted alike. The real non-conformists of that era was Sha Na Na. 100 hippie band posters on the wall each trippie dippie design was nearly the same- could barely read the band names. Then 1 Sha Na Na poster. 1950s looking teenage couple dancing. Rock n roll.
If you grew up as a teenager in the 70's, you knew who Sha Na Na's music...Woodstock..TV Show...A really great part of music history 50 years ago....Those were the days!
Not.... really. There was a much more radical shift in society between 1959 and 1974 than 2009-2024. We haven't had anything in the past 15 years that compares to the baby boomers entering adulthood and everything that came with it: The British Invasion, Vietnam, Watergate, the hippie movement, the sexual revolution, etc. Even music has remained largely unchanged. No one would blink an eye if "Poker Face" was a new song in 2024 - sounds just like everything else that's currently popular.
Scott Simon was missing from this. The substitute contract keyboard from Elliot Randal brought his guitar as part of the package, so the interplay between him and Vinny Taylor on this song is quite special.
@@bobskaftfeld5611 Bob, I was LOL because I agree with you (Johnny Contardo of ShaNaNa does resemble Billy Crystal). Other commenters of other ShaNaNa videos have also made similar comments about how Johnny resembles Billy. I wasn't laughing at you.
These guys had a great show and long career, they brought the 50'alive for people likey mom who graduated in 57, she loved this group

I saw them at the county fair when I was a kid..
Wonderful stage presence.
And they were at Woodstock. TV Show, they had longevity because all ages enjoyed their music and stage presence
Not all of them! Only Denny, Santini, Jocko and Donny
Sha na na , una de mis bandas favoritas de todos los tiempos
Scott Powell (white balding guy in blue) Is a orthopedic surgeon. He also starred in Caddie Shack as one of Rodney Dangerfield's posse.
They were funny talented
I saw them around 78.
Van Halen opened for them.
Go figure!
Bruce Springsteen once opened for Sha Na Na. Scott Simon would say, "Now he won't return our calls"
LOL This guy could b John travoltas cousin.
Thanks.
Great fun
Chico❤
The original song was like 15 years before. It's like if people dressed in period-appropriate clothing to do a cover of "Poker Face" today.

This was less than a month before Vinnie's death.
Billy Crystal was in Sha Na Na? 😂
The Juicy Fruits are a reflection of the past...
Wheres Squiggy?

amazing! Thanks for the information!
WHERES BOWSER??!!
I believe he’s singing backup. He’s there.
Yes clearly visible in all black as always.
Where’s Lenny?
How can you not see him? That could actually be a line in a joke from their tv show... but seriously, how can you not see him? The guy is huge
He's there. The big guy in back ❤
Rare.
Other guys there for stage interpretation? 😂
Billy Crystal up front.
LOL!

Billy Crystal was a guest on the Sha Na Na TV show. The physical similarity to Johnny Contardo was duly noted when Johhny introduced Billy.
Joel Olsteen was a teenager in love.
No Bowzer no fun 😑
Bowzer is there singing backup dressed in all black.
Dudes in their 40s talking about being a teenager lmao
they are a tribute band, you can google tribute if you need to..
Chico was probably about 25-26 here.
@@padraiggillon Bowzer was 28 on this appearance. He was the oldest one on stage at that time.
