Cool, never thought that Quaking Aspen made good carving wood. A similar wood that's white and soft from my area might be Port Orford Cedar. And it smells like incense when its carved.
You are an amazing carver. I absolutly love to watch you. The designs you create are beautiful. God sure did give you hands to create. Thank you for letting us watch you use your talent ❤
I really appreciate these longer, advanced carving tutorials. Appreciate the thoughts and mapping of how you look at the piece. Wood spirits are top level. Your approach and comments fill the video. Thanks Doug. Another great piece.
We've been celebrating like crazy over at Fox Chapel Publishing (home of Woodcarving Illustrated)! We are so proud to have Doug on our team. (Actually, we're kinda starstruck if you wanna know the truth!)
Wow Mr. Linker ..!! Congratulations on your newly found success on the sponsor… I’m been carving for a little over a year with no plans of stopping thanks to coming across one of your videos.. hope one day I will be a fraction as good as you.. thanks and can’t wait to see what you put out next.
Doug, thanks for this carving. I am a beginner and this is way beyond me, but I really enjoyed watching it. I believe I have learned from it. The man was in there all along and just needed to be released. I am reminded of the man who had a large rock and making a horse when someone watching him asked, "How in the world do you do that?" The carver replied, "I just take off everything that does not look like a horse." That is exactly what you have done, took off everything that does not look like the man. I am amazed and in awe. Thanks again.
Doug It's because of you with your simple carvings that i started carving. And to see this program it just makes me want to carve even more. I gave my neighbor your name to look up and he also is carving now. I hope your work keep's inspiring people to carve. I carved your bear design on top of a walking stick and put a wood spirt below the bear. And i use what ever wood i can see that fits my needs.
Congratulations on the sponsorship, Doug. The magazine is a great publication, I really enjoy it. Thanks for all you do. I carve as a result of your inspiring videos. Thank you.
You can’t know how much I enjoy your videos Doug. So much fantastic information that you share with us all. Thank you so much. Oh and this fellow is definitely main course, that’s no doodle.
You're inspiring sir! I've just recently taken up the carving hobby, mostly concentrating on your basswood projects. I'm not very good yet, but practice makes better. Thank you for the content.
Watching in London England. Hi Doug, a BIG Thank you! You are an inspiration! The best carving I've ever seen, period. You taught me so much, just incredible. Love these detailed tutorials.
Absolutely AMAZING carving! I have collected a lot of beaver sticks but nothing big.....The hair looks awesome going up the beaver chew area.....You Rock Doug!
Thank you!Watching while I shovel off the porch!👍( thru the screen door)😂Have a beautiful day,I am.Good to see you!!!👍Ok let's be honest,I am actually only leaning on my shovel now.hahaha👍
Doug - Another great video! Your enthusiasm for carving really comes across in these videos and is contagious. The variety of subject matter plus your easy going relaxed style makes for a very entertaining and educational experience. Sometimes I feel as if you're carving right next to me and I've learned a lot by watching you. Also, your videos of trips to the bush and scrounging for wood are like a breath of fresh air.
I also appreciate the final analysis that you provided to help us newbies see the big picture. I feel like I'm getting a lot from your videos. Thanks again sir
perfekt video. its rare i see the hole video without skipping steps. iam before beginner, and it was good to see the tool sizes that you use for wood in that size.
Doug when you go in the woods to find your Piece of wood you should carve a spirit in a tree for someone else to find. They would be blown away. Just a thought God bless. And great job.
Congratulations on the new grandkids and the sponsorship! I’ve been watching your videos for quite a while and decided to dive in and I’m really enjoying it. I don’t plan on being great at it but your videos have been a huge help and inspiration. So a great big thank you to you!!
Awesome carving!! I could listen to you talk and carve all day long!! Congratulations on the new grandbabies! I'm in kansas, we have beautiful 70° weather one day and the next they are calling for snow!!
Awesome video Doug. I am retired and work at a ski resort here in Maine so I get away from carving in winter, but my winter goes fast so I enjoy my the rest of the year carving. This video really put the bug back in me. Couple more weeks and I am done for winter and can’t wait to get back to it! Thanks Doug!! Also subscribing to carving Illustrated. Congratulations! 👍👍👍
Wow, just brilliant, been watching you for years and I'm still trying to master face/eyes. I always seem to miss something and spot it too late, but learning all the time and still enjoying it. Thanks for all you do and the inspiration you give.
I love your work. I learned a lot watching this video and the others you have made. I am already a subscriber to Woodcarving Illustrated and can't wait to see your work there also. Thanks Doug, Your awesome.
Your hands and teaching are very skilled, and thanks for helping me ( Don't look at your face as a perfect trim beard) Thanks, and congratulations on grand babies and sponsors
That's the most appropriate sponsorship on UA-cam and good on Woodcarving Illustrated for doing that with you. I love their magazine it's a great read.
Fantastic Doug, very inspirational, I have just started using found wood which can be quite hard where I am. Looking forward to getting back in my shed tomorrow. Oh and the vid is not too long love the sound of that wood being cut.
I dont know if it has been mentioned yet by others but I feel one of the greatest maybe unintentional teaching moments in this video is you are just using larger sized tools so what you do is virtually the same on smalls...the best is when you do the eyes on this carve, on the smalls it is very difficult to see the angles clearly but with this carve you can. Please continue with your craft I look forward to seeing more of your down to earth humble journey.
Awwe man..👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽..Congrats on the sponcership Brother..I'm stoked for ya! I know what whittling/ carving means to ya and for wood carving illustrated to recognize your talents and the awesome relationship you have with us is AWESOME!.. big big congrats and I hope you talk more about your's and WCI's relationship and what it means to the "Linker" channel ...maybe in your next live stream 👍🏽👏🏽 "which we'd like to see soon by the way "..lol..keep it up Doug!👍🏽 I've been waiting for this kind of video too..Thanks!
Like your approach in teaching, you are lucky to have soft found wood where you are, all the found wood around here is as hard as concrete, it's diffficult to get started carving found concrete for sure. But I will try.
I really like your Channel I wish I would have watched you before I bought some of my tools cuz I know I'm never going to probably use some of them didn't spend that much thank goodness but now I've got the proper ones coming.. have carved little people out of clay never done with before I'm very excited it looks a little difficult but I'm up for the challenge you make really good videos
Hey Doug, just love your enthusiasm and the way you get "carried away". Everyone can tell you really Love carving and I am so happy you found your gift. Please keep sharing that with us, I really look forward to every new carving especially the talkies. 7/10 my butt, 9.75/10 all the way (0.25 for the chin/beard). West Country, UK.
