My first job as a kid was at BK. With the "Have it your way" slogan, there was a button on the cash register for just about everything. It was almost exactly like a Big Mac, center bun section and all; however, their secret sauce was light green like tartar sauce. Tasty, but I think long gone.
I miss the Whopperito. I loved it because whether big mac or whopper, I always felt like I was getting too much "bread to beef" ratio and always end up either taking off the top bun or ripping half of it off. The Whopper was one of my favorites back in the day, I loved the flame grilled beef. But the last 10 years or so it’s become impossible to get one warm, they’re always room temperature which sucks. In my area the number of Burger King franchises has crashed. There are roughly two locations left: One is a well run store, with good service and accurate order taking. The other is a sort of narrow "shotgun" style location that is known to be slow and grossly understaffed even well before the pandemic. I kinda wonder if BK corporate keeps their franchises on a looser leash than say McDonald's or Wendy's hence the vast difference.
I think so. In my area I pretty much refuses to go to the Burger King because half the time they don't even have their Lobby open even though they should they don't even open on time usually an hour late and they take about 10 minutes or more to get each car through the drive-thru. On top of being rude. The Wendy's in my area aren't the best either but I would say they are better than Burger King. It almost feels like the franchise owner or corporate just doesn't care at all

There was one in my neighborhood for 30 years then it caught fire and reopened as something else. Now it's 10 miles in any direction to get to another. I can't remember the last time I went to one
Back in the 90s, my family would get the 2 for 2 whopper deal. It was a local special, but once its popularity grew, other BK's took notice and did their own.
Their Halloween special ghost pepper whopper is actually pretty good. I also remember the Franken whopper with its green buns and special sauce. That one was good too.
You should do a comparison of Whataburger vs Whataburger. That’s what it was design to compete against. Back in the day when I would still eat a Burger King, a would get a “Mustard Whopper” so it would taste more like the Whataburger.
In the realm of fast food burgers the whopper is still my favorite. When I was 12 I would get two of them. They finally came out with the double whopper and that gets it done. Tripple would be too much for me though. Can't really compare a whopper to a big mac though, two very different burgers. I do still love a big mac too.
I know I’m not crazy but out of all the major US national food chains, I can certainly taste a difference between a 80’s/90s Whopper and today. Tough to describe but it tastes a little bit more “mealy” or bit mushier maybe. Used to be crustier. Sometimes if I have time and I’m in the store, I’ll tip the crew a few bucks and ask for a fresh burger off the grill. Most of the time they’ll gladly do it. Makes all the difference!
There is a big difference between a vegetarian and a vegan. The impossible burger is vegetarian but not vegan. Nobody ever said it was vegan, so I don't know why anyone would think it was. Even the company that makes the burger doesn't claim that.
Yeah I was about to say vegetarians can have eggs and mayo. I usually do a month or two of vegetarian a year just to mix things up and at the end I see how long I can do vegan. Vegan is hard as heck.
The Whopper is the best nationwide fast food sandwich in my world, though I cannot claim to have tried them all. However, it's only truly great if you add cheese. A fond memory is the long interval in the early 1990s when they offered a $.99US Whopper as a loss leader. I cashed in on that many, many times. That they got the model for the Whopper from Whataburger is a shocking revelation. Is this the same Whataburger that is popular to this day in New Mexico? With green chiles, that's a great, great sandwich. But I think you have to travel to New Mexico to get it. That's a 1000 mile trip for me, but I might make it soon now that I am reminded. Thanks for your reporting.
I actually really liked the chili dogs that BK did for awhile. My only problem with them (for the most part) is they were too expensive for what you were getting
I never really cared for the Big Mac. When going to McDonald's I'd usually prefer the Quarter Pounder with cheese. But I do love the Whopper, and had a lot of them back when they were going for $1.00 back in the 90s. I never knew that we had WhatABurger to thank for inspiring the Whopper. Personally, I think the real secret of the Whopper isn't the flame-broiled burger, but the fact that they use both mayo and ketchup on it. Which is easy to emulate when making burgers at home, and home taste tests have proven it to me.
In Chicago around the early 2000's man BK hit the spot! They were cheap and filled you up it was a dolla whoppa and it was good! Now damn whoppers don't taste the same!
Burger King and McDonald's were something unknown to us as a children. It wasn't until the mid/late 1980s that their adverts invaded the TV ad breaks. That damn Burger King Head was nightmare fuel. I have still not tried Burger King's produce. Makky D's (McDonalds), didn't become 'a thing' until our young children discovered them. Instead, Fish & Chips, Indian, Chinese and Pizza seem to be the fast food of choice round here. Maybe because I do not have that childhood connection to McDonalds, it never occurs to me to consider them. Of course, this is purely my local experience. I hear that these establishments are quite popular. Fair Play to them. I have no idea why.
I miss the Burger Shots , they were 6-12 burger sliders in a little package . They were amazing . That and the sauce-less spicy chick’n crisp for a dollar .
It makes sense Whopper sales surpassing Big Mac sales. Despite more McDonald's locations and sales worldwide, when most people go to Burger King, they usually get a Whopper of some sort.

Do the Fillet-o-fish!! It has a really interesting history!! Oftentimes I'd tell it's backstory over a McMeal and my friends would scramble to Google to see if it's true, almost mind-blown.
@@og-greenmachine8623 actually, there was already a Burger King in Australia, and the American one was forced by the Australian courts to come up with another name.
The angry whopper is my favorite burger of all time, from any restaurant, ever. Haven't had one since 2019 and I'm waiting for them to bring it back to the US, could only find an article saying they brought it back for Burger King Canada restaurant locations.
Man, I love a Whopper but don't discount the Burger King chicken nuggets. Those things are awesome! I can honestly say that we ACTUALLY HAVE gone to Burger King specifically for them in the past, particularly for the kids. In our area, not only are they the best tasting chicken nuggets from a fast food place, but they are the ONLY chicken nuggets that reheat well, even in a microwave!
I remember about 2 decades ago the Whopper was $1.25/each when they had a 4 for $5 promotion going for a long time it seemed. Haven't ate at Burger King in maybe 15 years so went online to see how much they were. My local BK sells just the Whopper alone for $7.99. A large meal is $11.89!!!
so what's driving the cost of food up besides inflation if a whopper cost 3.73 back in the day and now it costs anywhere between 2-4 times that depending on the restaurants geographic location?
I live in Gainesville, FL and I can verify here in February 2023 that Burger King on Newberry Road is still open and thry just remodeled it a few years ago.
That’s how I fell in love with them. I had five brothers, so it was a good way for my father to feed 8 people: “let me get as many whoppers as I can for $25!” It was fantastic
The Whopper, because I don't care for cheese on a beef patty. I also like the "have it your way" notion, because onions do bad things to my tummy, so I can leave them off the burger
I have kind of a reverse problem. I enjoy Whoppers but like cheese on it, but half the time I forget to order it that way since I'm so used to burgers coming that way. I'll learn eventually...
You can get a Big Mac with no cheese or onions… you could get a Wendy’s burger or Hardee’s Burger or any other burger with no cheese or onions. Not like this is a BK exclusive lol
The original Whopper was actually flame broiled with that great flame broiled taste. Since the early 2000's it's a precooked patty with " grill branding" passed through some contraption with a weak flickering flame. True flame broiled burgers are pretty much gone now. Anybody remember Harvey's in Canada ? 🇨🇦 Same deal happened to them as well. 😢😭 Good times, good eating as a treat back in the day... 🙄
LOL my hubby likes BK's nuggets and said "HEY! I love their nuggets" when he heard you said "No one goes to BK for their nuggets" lmfao. Love this channel ♥
The value is honestly great and I used to get em all the time in HS and College. Just get it with some fries because they taste kind of off if you eat a lot of them entirely on their own.
Does anyone remember when Burger King tried to do that promotion with McDonald’s? Like some PR stunt of combining the two iconic sandwiches, was it McWhooper?
So...I'll ask again: Any plans to do a list of unique burgers across the US, like you did for pizza, hot dogs, and barbecue? Might be interesting to talk about the Juicy Lucy from my home state or even the various levels of Bypass from the Heart Attack Grill.
The whopper jr was actually made by accident. When the first Burger King opened in Puerto Rico in 1963, they had no bread molding trays for the whoppers.
Whopper, no ketchup no mayo, add mustard. That's always my order!
I don't think they do comparison videos on this channel
Whataburger vs Whataburger aye?
Woo Hoo! Announcer guy. Now I can listen and enjoy. Thank you!
In the realm of fast food burgers the whopper is still my favorite. When I was 12 I would get two of them. They finally came out with the double whopper and that gets it done. Tripple would be too much for me though. Can't really compare a whopper to a big mac though, two very different burgers. I do still love a big mac too.
I love the video, I have subbed. But dang.. the narrator is giving me big Richard Dreyfuss Stand By Me vibes! Making me all nostalgic.
Wow. I love the nuggets there and the burgers of course
This made me want a Whopper. But, like, a Whopper from when I remember them being good.
They are still good bro, just gotta go to the right BK.
I love the Whopper.
One of the things I like doing at Burger King is ordering a Whopper (sometimes a Double Whopper) with bacon and cheese...
That could be a theme song for the entire fast food industry...
I actually liked them too, but like you said, there was a lot of other places you could get a dog for a lot cheaper.
Hell yeah, BK over the Big Mac
I miss the Burger Shots , they were 6-12 burger sliders in a little package . They were amazing . That and the sauce-less spicy chick’n crisp for a dollar .
double whopper with pickles, onions, and no cheese
The fact Whataburger in FL back then was packed and still are today shows you who has the better burger in the southeast. Whataburger.
Definitely Whopper over Big Mac, as long as you add cheese.
It makes sense Whopper sales surpassing Big Mac sales.
Despite more McDonald's locations and sales worldwide, when most people go to Burger King, they usually get a Whopper of some sort.
mcdonalds is always crowded while burger king is always empty where i live.
"Like they say in the Army, have it your way" -Drillbit Taylor
Whopper KING OF FAST FOOD BURGERS, PERIOD.
How about a video on Burger Chef? They were flame broiled too and completely awesome, especially their double cheese !!
I like both. Teen Burger at A&W is my fav. But Whopper over Big Mac if I had a list.
I actually did go to BK for nuggests. They used to have great deal on nuggests in my country and it was cheapest option if you wanted snack.
What's a nuggests?
@teezee44 Here it was like 10 nuggests for like 1.25$ in local currency, but then they took out 1 nugget without lowering the price and I stopped going there.
I used to be a broke HS student who worked at the mall and those 1.49 for 10 nuggets got me thru a lot of my shifts
Whopper doesn’t even feel like a real word any more
WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER
ya it's lost all meaning for me after that
Whopper whopper whopper!
WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOOPER
JUNIOR DOUBLE TRIPLE WHOPPER
Possible idea to cover history of Whataburger?
the Angry/Angriest whoppers are my favorite BK whop sandwiches, the spicier the better! if you haven't done a weird history on the DQ blizzard yet then make that your next Weird food video.
The DQ flamethrower is pretty good
@@gunfighterzero i liked that one too
The Whopper is one of my favorite burgers! Had one yesterday! with cheese. SO GOOD!
I had no idea the Whopper was inspired by the Whataburger burger!
Whopper all day all night. I will eat one fridge cold before I eat another burger.
Do the Fillet-o-fish!! It has a really interesting history!! Oftentimes I'd tell it's backstory over a McMeal and my friends would scramble to Google to see if it's true, almost mind-blown.
I think that was the competition between a fish-burger and the ananas burger
Fun fact: in Australia Burger King is called hungry jacks and we also get the tropical whopper in summer which has a slice of pineapple in it
I second that. 🇦🇺
Had a tropical whopper over the weekend. Still holds up. Over here, Hungry's shits all over Maccas
Fun fact*
probably because it’s Australia
and
they didn’t want the name “king”🇬🇧
- in the franchise💡
@@og-greenmachine8623 actually, there was already a Burger King in Australia, and the American one was forced by the Australian courts to come up with another name.
@@nathanjohnwade2289
Kind of exactly what I said💡
The angry whopper is my favorite burger of all time, from any restaurant, ever. Haven't had one since 2019 and I'm waiting for them to bring it back to the US, could only find an article saying they brought it back for Burger King Canada restaurant locations.
BK's Parent Company is Canadian. Its RBI/Tim Hortons and has been since August 2005.
I used to work for a Burger King for a few months, an they actually use flames to grill the burgers, the smell inside was amazing at times!~
One of the greatest burgers of all time.🍔
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
I like it alot also.
Not anymore 😐
I feel that Hungry Jacks has always been more willing to take risks with the kind of food they sell.
I respect that.
Fast food has outpaced inflation, I used to get 99 cent junior whoppers and large cheesytots were $2.00. Loved that combo
so what's driving the cost of food up besides inflation if a whopper cost 3.73 back in the day and now it costs anywhere between 2-4 times that depending on the restaurants geographic location?
"Nobody goes to burger king for their chicken nuggets" 😂😂😂 yeah... 😅
Whopper, double, and triple whopper, and the original Chicken sandwich... can't go wrong...
YES WE GOT OUT NARRATOR BACK!!!! Also, how about a Bucc-Ees history? I have never been there but it looks pretty interesting!
Could we do a 6 dollar burger video? That aged well.
If “we’re all the same inside”, why do companies try to profit off pointing out how different we are on the outside?
To some people, they do not care which is which as long as they tasted great and have significant amount of ingredients at the satisfactory level.
Back in 2006, Burger King in Germany used to had a Burger with Tortilla Chips. Loved that so much.
Proud that Burger King started in Florida.
That first BK is still here in Jacksonville! It's on Main St right next to the MLK Blvd highway
@@nicholasdoss3312 It's actually at 7146 Beach Blvd
@@gratch46 really? I thought the one on Main St was the first one
Home of the ex-President that tells Whoppers
Why?
Whoppers are disgusting nowadays
I live in Gainesville, FL and I can verify here in February 2023 that Burger King on Newberry Road is still open and thry just remodeled it a few years ago.
Great video... I remember whoppers were 99 cents most of the time. Most I could ever eat was 5 in a sitting. OOF!! 2 whoppers was my go to.
That’s how I fell in love with them. I had five brothers, so it was a good way for my father to feed 8 people: “let me get as many whoppers as I can for $25!”
It was fantastic
Irony hits when a McDonald's ad plays before the BK video.
I like whoppers almost as much as I like this channel.
Do u guys hav a video on bob burger i would love to know why they're no more anymore great video
You can still get stuffed removed on a McDonald’s burger
I always get my Big Macs without cheese. You just have to say no cheese.
You can get a Big Mac with no cheese or onions… you could get a Wendy’s burger or Hardee’s Burger or any other burger with no cheese or onions. Not like this is a BK exclusive lol
I miss the 1990s Whopper always being put on sale for 99 cents.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
LOL my hubby likes BK's nuggets and said "HEY! I love their nuggets" when he heard you said "No one goes to BK for their nuggets" lmfao. Love this channel ♥
I like the Nuggs too 👍🏾
The value is honestly great and I used to get em all the time in HS and College.
I 100% go to BK for nuggets. They are my favorite.
