As an old retired scientist (octogenarian) I began taking your suggested dosages of vitamin D3 (5000 IU) and vitamin K2, MK7 (180mcg) in October 2019. In November 2019 I tested negative for Covid. In late December I tested positive for Covid. I lost my smell and taste for 3 months. I initially feared I was doomed because I had a heart attack in my youth (65yo) which left me with a poor prognosis. To my surprise it had minimal effect on me!! That’s when I knew you were onto something big! In 3.5 years of taking your exact recommended dosages I can report it has also pulled a lot of calcium from my arteries! You have scored a threefer! It pulls calcium from our arteries and soft tissues (1/3), it enhances our bone health (2/3). It minimizes Covid-19 (3/3). Congratulations Dr. Brown! You deserve the Nobel Prize! Keep up your excellent work. I’m also taking Dr. David Sinclair’s protocol for two years. I am feeling like I was 40yo and testing younger than 76yo, using Dr. Steven Horvath’s test which is showing confirmed age reversal!
Have you gotten a CAC "coronary artery calcium score "? BTW Dr. Kate author of the book "K2 and the Calcium Paradox " Is now recommending 100mcg of K2-MK7 per 1000i.u of D3. She has an interview with Dr. Mercola on u-tube. My self I am on the Linus Pauling Heart Protocol. And have been taking 2400mcg of K2-MK7 with 5000i.u of D3 for the last 2yrs. My CAC has gone down from 660 to 458 in 20 months.
I really appreciate this information, Dr. Brown. I've asked several doctors this question and didn't get a satisfactory answer. Your information makes sense. Thank you!
@@DrSusanBrown hi I have a question. I’m not sure if you’ll answer. I know that you’re probably busy. I had a question in regards to vitamin K2 and it’s benefits for getting rid of excessive calculus on teeth. My dentist told me that some people are low vitamin K and it causes calcium on your teeth to build it up and I’m having like really bad tartar and calculus and I don’t know what to do. I have good oral hygiene like I clean and floss and do everything supposed to
I was diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency and a week later started getting extreme nausea, stabbing sharp bone pain and increased urination. My doctors were stumped and eventually my kidneys stopped working and began urinating to the point of extreme dehydration, needing frequent ER visits for IV fluids several times a day. I heard about vitamin K is needed to direct calcium where to go and took one vitamin K capsule, within 30 minutes symptoms had subsided that had last for two months. It seems in this day and age, you have to be your own doctor as most doctors knowledge in inadequate! I don't know what I would have done if not for these passionate, caring doctors sharing their knowledge on UA-cam.
Strange. Do you not get enough SUN? Did they give you high dose supplements and are you better? I would also get a blood sugar test kit and test regularly. Urination is associated with diabetes. My guess is you don't move much. You stay inside too much. Your body is slowly dying. Get out and live the life you were give my friend. No doc can do that for you.
@bina nocht I take Mag. Glycinate every night. I know nutrition better than most. I've studied it for many years and had an M.D. Nutritionist as well. If you want to share with me e.g., your top 10 go to foods, I will share a few quick thoughts with you. Usually it is not about supplements- it is about the nutrients in your Food and your exercise level. The body is smart too and will store things so you really have to abuse it over time to get symptoms. I suspect what you THINK is the problem, in most cases is not really the problem. Doctors will lead you down the wrong path usually as they are in business to sell pills which destroy gut biome.
@@MOAB-UT hello there, I have a question about supplements and lupus. I've be suffering from low vit D and low ferritin for 15+ years. How should I pair my vit D with, either with K2 or calcium , magnesium for bette absorption? Right now I am taking Vit D3 5000 units ( no K2 or calcium in it) and multivitamins . Last year I found out that I have beginning stage of Lupus.
@@SG-wq4rm Hi S G. I am sorry you are suffering. First, and important, I am not a doctor, nutritionist or medical professional of any kind. Nothing I say is advice, of any king. I will speak for myself only. If it were ME, I would be careful to not take K2 w/D3. I believe it is very important to ensure that the calcium gets back into your bones and not building up in your arteries. D3 is a HORMONE, not a vitamin. I've read things that caution about taking K2 for extended periods so I don't really take either at present. "I" take Magnesium Glycinate before bed. I take 1, 125mg POWDER capsule, sometimes two. Magnesium is very important for many reasons so I do take it, however I am cautious to take too much as I don't want to put a burden on my kidneys and liver. They are pretty important too! Always seek to PROTECT my LIVER and FEED my GUT (fermented Kimchi daily.) So to be very clear, doctors LOVE their LABELS (and drugs that go with said labels.) You might be presenting some LUPUS-LIKE SYMPTOMS. Does that mean you have the label? I don't know. If it were me, I would question things. I would be highly suspect of treatments (drugs) as they typically can cause other major issues. There are always side effects- sometimes they are worse than the actual condition- that might have been temporary anyway. Docs want and need to get you on drugs- and keep you on drugs. See the FLEXNER REPORT- it is all in there. 1910, A. Flexner recommended a TREATEMENT MODEL vs. PREVENTION to the healthcare industry because it made more money. It was quickly adopted and still followed today. They need you as sick as legally allowed. I am friends with many docs. They can be good people over all but they are in a lousy and highly corrupted system. Even they will admit this over a glass of whine. They truly are smart, SALES PEOPLE. They sell DRUGS- period. I am talking your general pill pushing docs and lesser extend Surgeons or ER docs. They will never have a serious talk with you about health, nutrition and exercise which is a bit ironic. You NEED to connect, not with me, but with a real FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE PROFESSIONAL. I recommend *Dr. Sten Ekberg.* He just opened a new clinic- get there. Also, Dr. Mark Hyman is very good as well. If it were ME, I would identify the ROOT cause of the SYMPTOMS. I would not get hung up on a LABEL (LUPUS.) I would address the root cause. If a plant is dying, move it into the sun, get it water and nutrition. It could be LEAKY GUT and major internal inflammation. That is my guess. Our digestive tracts, intestinal epithelium (protective barrier) is literally only one cell thick. When that easily gets compromised for any of 100 reasons, we can have all kinds of symptoms. I am surprised they did not label you Fibromyalgia (yet.) It is when they give up and just want to throw medication at you. Sadly, most docs are clueless about nutrition- truly clueless. Have you tried intermitted fasting and a good, elimination diet? Have you tried Carnivore? If it were me, I would make a big check list and methodically rule things out one at a time. I would take it on like a project. I have had very good luck doing this. It's what most docs do anyway- they just try stuff and see what works. Only problem is they prescribe a lot of stuff along the way that can make things worse. Good luck- keep me posted on your progress. I am curious. My email is on my channel page under About. You got this. Oh, one last thing, if this was me, I would as in 100% be checking my blood glucose 2x daily until I know exactly what and how to eat to keep myself in an ideal range. Poor glucose control is the foundation of nearly all metabolic dysfunction. I consider it more important than just weight. Cheers! 😄
@@peterpiper5300 : the levels she gave was 50 - this is the blood level of D. So that’s 50ng/ml. For that, you need 180mg. The problem is, however, people have different blood levels of D wrt how much they take in IUs. So if we both took 5,000 IUs your level could be 50 and mine be 40. It’s all different. So you can’t determine it accurately for IU consumption. You have to get the blood work done to determine your level. Your doctor will potentially bring it up (incorrectly IMO) and start mentioning concern for toxicity arguments... Personally, from what I’ve read about it, I’d be comfortable taking 5K IUs with about 200 daily. But don’t take peoples opinions on that. Get your blood work done to see the level.
My understanding was that fat soluble vitamins should be taken in proportion to each other as they are absorbed the same way, more info is required on the right ratio for Vitamin A, E, D, K1 and K2.
so incredibly helpful and packed full of valuable info, thank you so much, have just discovered your channel and subscribed. probably the best channel by a doctor i have come across. much love from London UK xxx

This is great information and presented very clearly. I've started taking more D and some K2 45-80mcg. My D level is 60. Fortunately my diet is great- nutrition is a hobby of mine so I normally eat Broccoli, Spinach, Sauerkraut and Chicken. Plenty of green leafy veggies. I also take Magnesium daily.
@bina nocht It can be. A little daily sun is better than a supplement anyway. Quality whole foods and exercise and avoiding the bad stuff is the way to go.
Quote from webmd: "An egg yolk can contain between 67 and 192 micrograms of vitamin K2. This amount depends on what the hen eats, however. Most chicken feed today is fortified with vitamin K, and this content passes onto the egg." Just eat 2 or 3 eggs per day and you are good to go. Calcium? The parathyroid gland decides how much calcium is being absorbed.
Dr. Brown, your info is much appreciated and accordingly I will add more K. I do have issues with magnesium. Tried different types of magnesium, different dosages and it still upsets my digestive tract.
I've come across the info that there are a number of different forms of magnesium. I had been taking magnesium citrate/aspartate until I came across a very in-depth paper on the subject that suggests that magnesium "malate" is the form of magnesium best utilized by the body. I'm just another punter out here reading the best sources of info on K2 I can find so I don't have any explanations of why one is better than the other when it comes to magnesium. I did however, based on the strength of all the other information detailed in the material I was reading, decide the fellow doing the writing knows a lot more than I do . . . and the malate form is no more expensive than the other forms of magnexium. I stick pretty much to NOW brand vitamins except for K2 . . . although I was taking NOW k2 before I upgraded my K intake however to the product sold under the name KoncentratedK. It has much higher levels of both MK-7 and MK-4. Taken at higher levels, that website documented reversal of plaque accumulation after a minimum of 6 months daily use. In other words, taking a "theraputic dose" as opposed to a "maintenance dose." In the same material I've been reading, it's been shown there is no upper limit to the amount of K2 (MK-7) or (MK-4). In other words, there's no known toxic level. So there's no harm in taking high levels of K2 . . . other than to your wallet perhaps. Just my two cents. If there's some way to minimize the chance of stroke or heart issues then it's money well spent.
Also check out on taking some Magnesium L-Threonate which crosses our blood-brain barrier to reside in the cerebrospinal fluid as recommended by Dr Joseph Mercola's free natural health newsletter (since 1997 ) emails..a bit more expensive though.. Thanks
Idk..vit K is a fat soluble vitamin which means excess isn’t getting flushed out in urine, it is stored in bodyfat. I would think there was potential concern there taking too much.
The form of magnesium that is best depends upon what issue you want to address. Magnesium glycinate is best for addressing insomnia and anxiety, and therefore should be taken at night. Magnesium citrate is best at addressing constipation, and can cause diarrhea. Magnesium L-threonate is best for migraines, and could help with mental acuity. Magnesium malate is the least expensive of the forms, such as magnesium taurate, that are best for addressing muscle pains, including those from working out.
This is the best information on magnesium I’ve ever seen in a comment the one for migraines I can’t pronounce name and I’m using the speaker but it’s the only magnesium that can pass through the blood brain barrier that’s why it helps with headaches and migraines so actually I think you need different forms for everything because I think we’re low and all magnesium anyway all the ones you mentioned here
I am a 66 yo, 250 lbs, 6'4" male. My D level is 40. My CT calcium score is 624. I have been taking separately 1000 IU D3 with breakfast and 300 mcg of K2 (MK7-MenaQ7) with dinner so they don't compete for absorption. Do you recommend taking D3 & K2 at the same time or at separate times? Also, since my arterial calcium score is so high, should I stop taking D3 and just take K2 to maximize pulling the calcium from my arteries? Of course, I would continue to monitor my D level to make sure it stays at or above 40.
Regarding the timing of D3 and K2, there’s no strong evidence to suggest they compete for absorption, so it should be fine to take them either together or separately, depending on what works best for you. Many people find it convenient to take them at the same time, but it's ultimately a matter of personal preference. As for your arterial calcium score, both D3 and K2 play important roles in your overall health-D3 supports calcium absorption, while K2 helps direct calcium to the bones and away from the arteries. Stopping D3 might not be necessary, but balancing the two is important. Continuing to monitor your D3 levels while ensuring you’re getting enough K2 could support both your bone and arterial health. However, given the complexity of your calcium score and your unique health situation, I recommend discussing any adjustments to your supplement routine with your healthcare provider. They can offer personalized advice based on your full medical picture.
Greens have oxalates which prevent absorption of calcium and some nutrients. Could you please explain particular greens or ways to eat them or what can reduce the oxalates. Thank you
A genuine practical question. Just checking if any MK-7 studies have checked the supplement alone, as it may be something in NATTO (or the fermented foods that have MK-7) that is a necessary or useful cofactor?
@andrewnorris5415 Natto has both K2/MK7 and Nattokinase, which both are active. So, Natto Itself should be more potent against CVD than just K2 is. The japanese researched K2/MK4 in high doses (15 mg 3 times a day) against Osteoporosis. We probably doesn't need that much, though. The Nattokinase research is new, but seem to show that it's really effective, and beneficial to the arteries. K2/MK7 has been researched in the Nederlands in increasing doses up to about 400 ug (0.4 mg). It seems to slow down calcification of the arteries, but so far hasn't reversed it. I myself think all vitamin K:s are beneficial in relatively high doses. But not more than totally 2 mg together. Both K1 and K2/MK7 are at least partially converted into K2/MK4 in the body. So, we don't get really deficient in that. But obviously, the body like that form. We otherwise get it only from animal food.
Thank you so much for sharing ❤️. I am already taking vitamin K2 and D3 together with my nattokinase on an empty stomach before starting my day with all my vitamins. 😊
Hello Hani, our written content on bit.ly/3gaBAPQ has all the references. Unfortunately the video content is a bit too time consuming to include these.
Hello Dr. Brown: First I would to thank you for doing these amazing videos. Looking for an alternative to avoid a knee replacement surgery I came across your videos. I've been taking Vitamin D3 for about a year (10,000 units per day), but I don't take Vitamin K. I am going to start taking Vitamin K from now on. Do you know if these supplements will help me with my Osteoarthritis? I heard that Glucosamine is good too. Thanks in advance for your answer.
10 mg Boron daily did away with my arthritis before I had heard of K2. Other things that eliminate my knee pain depending on what I need more of are Mg bisglycinate and hemp oil--the kind without CBD oil or cannibinoids of any kind. Storing it in my freezer, I use it where ever unfried oil is used in my batter or salads (tip: use garlic). In batter, there is water so the oil doesn't get damaged in pancakes. When I increased my D, I needed more Mg. I put all of my supplements into my food. I open caps of Mg and use the amount that works, not necessarily the whole cap. When I increased the D, I went to about twice as much Mg. Too much benadryl cripples my knees so I use it sparingly for sleep. For references see: vitamindwiki.calm. And an online document called, "There's nothing boring about boron."
@@fleetwoodbeechbum Thank you for the information. Where do you get the 10 mg Boron, I've seen it in 1.5 mg and 5 mg. I am already taking 500mg of Mg Oxide, but you recommend Mg bisglycinate. What is the difference between those two? Thanks for your response.
The Massai Cattle herders are known have been producing the equivalent of about 10,000 IU's of vitamin D per day. Their D# levels must be higher than 50 surely? (mine is 120).
Its essential to get your Vitamin D levels checked before choosing a dose. 50,000 IU is typically only prescribed by doctors. Vitamin D and K2 can support bone and joint health, but they are not a direct treatment for inflammation or osteoarthritis.. If you're looking for some guidance on reducing inflammation with supplements please reach out to our office and our health coach can assist you! We would be happy to help.
Dr Brown, My Cancer Dr told me to “not to eat any soy products as it high in estrogen. “. My Breast cancer or related to excess estrogen. In fact prescribed pills to reduce estrogen (very expensive). I consume raw unpasteurized sauerkraut (don’t cook) with chopped cucumbers as a salad. Traders Joe’s has a good raw kraut. Even good straight out of the refrigerated jar. I don’t work for them. Just found a good raw product. Thanks for the vit k info balance amount. I take enough and 5000 D3 a day. Thank you for sharing.
Anne, soya is an adaptogen. It moderates estrogen levels. The estrogen in soya is not the same as hormonal estrogen. Perfectly safe and beneficial. If you're concerned about excess estrogen in your diet, it's wise to remember that 99% of meat derives from female animals (containing hormonal estrogen), and that 100% of dairy products derive from lactating female animals, whose estrogen levels are already high (because they're female), and 40 times higher than normal, because they're lactating. That's 40 times higher estrogen than normal. This is before the supplemental estrogen (often legally, sometimes illegally) added to animal feed to make the animals put on weight rapidly. Estrogen Dominance is widespread in the western world. It's a quiet epidemic. Some 'experts' claim it's due to xeno-estrogens in plastic food containers. This may play a small part, but the overhwhelming cause has to be meat and dairy, whose consumption has rocketed - juts like breast cancer - over the past years. Think milk shakes, burgers and McDonald's. But, of course, vested interests would rather you didn't put two and two together. Your health is less important than their profits.
@@johnmachinmegavegan8378 I agree but I don't think the doctors have the vested interest in hiding the truth. The meat and dairy industry does. The reasons doctors tell breast cancer patients not to consume soy is sheer ignorance. Listen to Dr. Kristie Funk's story. As a breast cancer surgeon she was telling her patients to avoid soy until she did research for her book and learned the truth. Now she recommends daily consumption of soy as well as whole, plant based diet.

In this videos she was talking specifically about Vitamin K and Vitamin D to address questions that commonly come up about these particular minerals. www.betterbones.com/bone-nutrition/20-key-bone-nutrients/
Question - Do you take them at the same time or separate the supplementation of D3 and K2? Also, is K2 fine with blood thinners? Or is it only K1 we need to be concerned about? Thanks
There are some scientists advising to take separately because they use the same cel receptor's. Other study say it doesn't make any difference. I would take them separately and always with fat. If you take blood thinners, than take a max of 100 much. I personally take 5.000 ie d3 and 3x 5mg., Yes you read Wright, 3 times 5mg a day MK4 and 300mcg MK7, sinds years No problems at all
Most of the info i have read on this area is in line with Marco's comment, which i agree with. Personally i take vitamin D with my first meal of the day and K2 with my last meal of the day.
I haven't seen any studies but I'm taking Innovix labs full spectrum K2 which combines 500 mcg of MK-4 (as Menatetrenone) and 100 mcg of MK-7 (as Menaquinone-7). The label says MK-4 is the primary form of K2 present in the brain.

Hello SG, There are so many opinions available online and we ttry to take the simplest path for our people to get the results they want. We always do vitamin d and k SEPERATELY because each individual will have a different need for vitamin D. You can however actually EAT both of the pills at the same time with a fatty meal. We use Alkaline for Life MK-7 because it has the ideal dose that Dr. Brown likes for Bone & Heart Health: alkalineforlife.com/products/mk-7 Then you can uses the correct dose of vitamin D based on your vitamin d test: alkalineforlife.com/products/vitamin-d-at-home-test-kit We use alkalizing minerals for our calcium/magnesium and more and this can be taken right along with our Mlk-7 & D: alkalineforlife.com/collections/bone-muscle-health
How much mk-7 does natto have? I've looked on the website links you provided but could not find this info. Some Americans such as me will eat natto whether they like it or not (I don't). I even make my own. I have never felt confident of how much to eat, and therefore, supplement for insurance. Thank you for this excellent video!
Vitamin K2 as MK-7 seems to help limit arterial cification, and a new European study on reversing arterial calllcificatin with som,e 300 mcg MK-7 is underway.
Is it safe to assume that 200 mcg of K2 is enough even if you take mega doses of D3? I read that while they synergize, they are also independent and 100-200 mcg of K2 is always the optimal dose. (unless you take certain medication)
I have been taking D3 5000 for over a month and my last checkup was at 27 I have a surgery schedule in 2 weeks and I can't get my vitamin D to get to at least 30. Any suggestion?
Up your dosage until you hit your desirable level then reduce to maintain. You could do something like 50,000 once a week and 10,000 daily for around 4-6 weeks.
Hello! On average, vitamin D levels are expected to increase 10 ng/mL for every additional 1000 IU of vitamin D. Therefore, you may benefit from upping your vitamin D dose by 1,000-2,000 IU. It also might be a good idea to get tested again a few weeks after upping your dose to see if your levels changed. Hope this helps!
Sir, nice video, in India I don't get any brands containing VitD3 VitK27 & Magnesium how can i get help, there are brands along with calcium which I don't need much as it's on border line
Careful for Ataxia. I have no idea how people can get their Vitamin D levels as high as they do. I can't go above 27-28 otherwise I will experience Ataxia with as little as 1,000 iu extra dose of Vitamin D could cause this for me.
The important ratio is between about the D3 and parathyroïdhormoon. Something unknown to most scientists. The parathyroïdhormoon must absolutely be between 15 and 25. For somebody could a value 40 of vit.d3 and somebody else 90. The only way to find out is to check the ratio d3 parathyroïdhormoon. If the D3 goes higher the parathyroïdhormoon decreases Remember , the value of 15. And 25 is mandatory. This MD lots of talk but doesn't know the most important thing .
Hi ..... I was having chest pains and nerve pain since 2 months.... Went to a ton of doctors but they said I was fine and my heart was fine and diagnosed me with whatever mental disorders they knew like anxiety, depression, psychosomatic disorder, fibromyalgia PTSD and what not ..... Finally I did my research and found out about people who had the same symptoms as mine... And they had vit d deficiency... So I got my levels checked ... And the are horrible low at 12.... So I went to the Dr and she prescribed a multi vitamin (to be taken once daily) and a d3 tab (to be taken one a week) , my chest pain and tingling sensations have almost vanished , I mean they ate still there but reduced significantly.... But I'm having lump in the throat sensation since a week without a break and sometimes I have breathing issues... Can this lump in my throat sensation be caused by d3 deficiency!? I'm literally loosing hope everyday.. please reply
I hope they reply. Most doctors are now saying multi-vitamins are crap, and you can research why. It sounds like your doctor isn't very...good, to say the least. I hope you're not too shy to chew her out for not having done comprehensive testing on you before. I've just now discovered Dr. Brown, she's great and has ALL the credentials. If you don't find an answer thru her, I'd suggest looking up "Dr." Eric Berg, no credentials--chiropractor--but has brief, to-the-point videos (especially on Vitamin D). MD's have one class on nutrition, i.e. vitamins, so, as your doctor demonstrated, they generally have very little knowledge when it comes to effects nutritional deficiencies have on the body. I've seen a lot of UA-cam chiropractors with better knowledge of nutrition/vitamins... Best of luck to you, I'm still on my healing journey. Suggest you start keeping a journal of sorts; a chart with how much of what vitamins you took, aches and pains, and notate if you ate a lot of junk that day or slept poorly. There are too many variables to jump to fast conclusions, but after a few years you might begin to see correlations that might be helpful. Or not. Worth a try, though.
@Aesthetic_leen I would guess you are still very low in vitamin D. Test it again. And when you see that it is low. Get 5000 IE almost daily. Test again after 3 months. You want a level of 40 - 60 ng/ml, or higher. But over 80 is not needed, although still acceptable. A multivitamin hasn't enough of vitamin D to make a difference. You didn't say what dose your weekly vitamin D was. But daily is better.
Lived in Belgium for years. Was given anti depressant bc I developed anxiety. I had never had anxiety or panic attacks. Belgium has a lot of dark days and rainy. Well came back to the USA they tested my d levels and voila was low very low. To make a long story short - nutrition and sunlight play a huge role in mood disorders. Felt much better taking vitamin d and never took an anti depressant again / which made me fat and I was never fat.

I started taking vitamin D3 & K2 together. However after taking it for about a week. I was taking 2000 d3 & 100 mcg 7m something. I had to stop because I started to bleed like a period & haven't had a period in years. Can someone tell me what that can be. When I stopped taking it the bleeding stopped completely.

The most successful studies were done with European yogurts, which are high in probiotic organisms and low in sugar. If you want to see what yogurt can do for you, choose brands high in beneficial bacteria with no added sugar or additives (which unfortunately can counteract the benefits). Best bet: start with plain, organic, whole-milk yogurt and add fresh berries and alkalizing nuts and seeds for a creamy bone-supporting treat. Hi Dr. Brown, thank you for this info! Some questions. My Vit D level was only 32 yet I was taking what I thought was 8000 IU of vegan Vit D3 (spray form). I clearly was not taking the right VIt D3. What brand do u recommend? I live in cold NJ! Also I was taking K2, 50 mcg in supplement form and I eating Kimchi nearly every day (about 2 tablespoons full) and I take other supplements like Turmeric (for pain) and sometimes Wobenzym. I don't want to thin my blood too much either. Any recommendations?
From my understanding D3 is not vegan, D2 is the vegan form but is less absorbed so D3 is best. Switch your D3 from a spray over to any gel capsule or many powder capsules have a combo of 5,000 d3 and 75ish mcg of k2 in mk7 form.
I can not tell you what to take or how much But I can tell you what I take and how much the older you get the more you need having dark skin also requires more also obesity I am taking 40k IU of D3 + K2 120mcg for man -women 90mcg rarely people overdose some have to take 450000 IU of D3 will take a loong time to bring up to sufficient level to test you cell contend ofD3 not blood test
@leopold poppenberger The doses you take of vitamin D are so high that it's medication and not supplementation. An optimal dose would be: Vitamin D 5000 IU Vitamin K2 MK7 200 ug You can calculate that 1000 IU of vitamin D3 raises the meassured value in the blood by 7 ng/ml. Take more than that only if you meassure it and still have to low value. The individual variation is large! A lifeguard out in the sun all day long get a dose of about 20'000 IU. At that level the skin begins to break down the vitamin D it produces, so obviously the body don't want more!
in general for for K2- as MK-7 we recommend 180-200 mcgs. Yes, a pre-diabetic person can take vitamin K2 (MK7), but it's essential to speak with a healthcare provider first. Vitamin K2 is a type of vitamin K that is vital for blood clotting and bone health. It may also help regulate blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity. However, people with pre-diabetes or diabetes may need to monitor their vitamin K intake, as some studies suggest that high levels of vitamin K may interfere with blood-thinning medications. Also, if you're taking any medications or supplements, it's crucial to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure that vitamin K2 (MK7) won't interact with them. They can help you determine the appropriate dosage and monitor any potential interactions with medications or other supplements you're taking.
@@DrSusanBrown Thanks so much for your reply. I DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDICATIONS, only Alpha Lipoic Acid R, And Vitamin D3. I have asked my doctor but said that I cannot take the Vitamin K. I am waiting for my appointment with her so I can find out why She Says That I Cannot take it. This is Sad😭😩
This is one of the better presentations I have seen on vitamin D and vitamin K interactions, but I have some issues. The first is that vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 are presented as basically the same vitamin. They are not. With regards to multi-vitamins they are generally treated as a single vitamin, but they are very different. Vitamin K1 is the clotting factor vitamin, and should be avoided (with regards to supplementation) by those on blood thinners. Its only relationship to K2 is that it can be converted in the gut to K2-MK7 with a healthy gut biome. It is also a mistake to treat K2-MK4 the same as K2-MK7. K2-MK4 has a half life in the body of a few hours, and should be taken several times a day. Typically, it is recommended that if K2-MK4 is being taken, it should be about 800 mcg daily. K2-MK7 however, has a half life in the body of a few days, and 100 mcg is typically the recommended daily dosage of K2-MK7, and it is recommended that it be taken at least 3 tines a week. For supplementation, it should be taken daily, but if obtained from fermented foods, at least 3 times weekly would be the guideline. Typically, those recommending 180-200 mcg are assuming a mixture of K2-MK4 and K2-MK7, and sometimes even a mixture of K1, K2-MK4, and K2-MK7. One other thing. This video mentions therapeutic dosage of vitamin K. There is a difference between a therapeutic dose and maintenance doses. A person would have to take in excess of 10,000 IU/day of D3 in order to worry about the impact of D3 supplementation on K2 requirement. If you are not exceeding this dosage of D3, 100 mcg/day of K2-MK7, or 800 mcg/day of K2-MK4 supplementation should be sufficient.
I do not agree about the dosi vit d3 . It should be related to the parathyroïdhormoon ratio, which should be between 15.-25. this is mandatory. K2 MK4 is far much better than Mk7. The reason it stay short , it's because has been absorbed contrary to the Mk7 which stay long online. I take 15mg MK4 (3x5mg) and 200mcg MK7. The results are fantastic. No more oral plaques, strong bones, beautiful skin, etcrtc
@@natarellaify I'm not saying you are taking a harmful amount. I am just saying that you are taking so much K2-MK4 that your perception of the effectiveness of MK4 vs MK7 could be distorted.
It is important to consult with your doctor to advise support on vitamin d levels. We would look at how much Vitamin D you are taking to achieve that level. and then reduce the amount your taking
The initial problem is that there is laboratory source that can measure K2 and there is no citation describing K2 toxicity. Taking a massive amount of K2 I developed benign positional vertigo as the K2 removed some calcium carbonate from the ear crystals
May I ask how much K2 you have been taking when you said too much ? I take 200 mcg a day, because the vit D I take is combined with K2. Taking two pills a day make 200 mcg vit K2 for me. I had a vertigo six months ago from getting up from the bed . The discomfort took 1 week at least .
Hi doctor, thank you for this! I have a question, I heard going outside for 30 minutes gives you 20,000 IU, so if I go outside everyday for an hour, does this mean I don't need to take vitamin D supplements? (I am deficient in vitamin D but would this allow me to recover without having to take supplements/tablets?) Thank you :)
HI Yusra, We suggest to get very specific and test your Vitamin D to know if the sun alone is enough for you. Most need to supplement it depends on where you live in the world ecs.page.link/TmmLq
@@DrSusanBrown This 20,000 IU Vit D per 30 minutes of strong sunshine on the skin is a common statistic - but it depends on skin colour, how much skin is exposed, time of year, latitude, age, state of health, etc. (Incidentally, I've seen a study which found that exposing the nether regions to the sun increases vitamin D synthesis fourfold!) So, the precise relationship between sun exposure and vitamin D synthesis is debatable. What I think we should take from it, though, is that, in our natural state - living outdoors with few or no clothes in the sunny tropics - our vitamin D synthesis would be considerably higher than the official RDA. Therefore, I feel we should infer that optimal health may well depend on a level of vitamin D well over 20,000 IU / day.
HI there! yes many factors come into play varying by individual on how much vitamin D one needs. Thanks, Doctor. You've just confirmed that the reading I've recently done re. K2 is accurate. I started taking K2 mk7 and 2000 iu D3 supplements daily (I don't get enough sun) 👍
Mina Espinosa Researchers were using 45 milligrams of vitamin K2 mk4 some years ago. Given the chemical structure, I won't get worried about a microgram level intake. Were are you getting 500 milligrams of what form of vitamin K. K1? K2? K2 with side chain length? Do you know the difference between micrograms and milligrams?
Thank you! At the moment I'm taking a supplement that has 1000 IU D3 and 100 µg K2 per drop. So when I take 5 drops, which means 5000 IU D3, simultaneously I'm having 500 µg K2... is this a good idea? And can I continue with going up to 10000 IU of D3 on this suppl.? THX :)

Hi Devin, Typically it takes 6 weeks to 3 months to raise your Vitamin D level. What are your thoughts on my Dad, and 84 year old guy with an artificial heart valve (thus Warfarin) and an 18-year-old magnesium wasting condition for which we don't know the cause. His docs have given up. I would love to increase his D levels and K2, but I don't want to mess up his INR and how do I account for his low magnesium? I wish to do no harm to him. He does receive Mg infusions several times a week yet his Mg levels remain around 1.
K7 just gets passed out of the body so take more than "necessary" is fine and you have to make sure it more than D3 or else you end up with bone problems like sensitive teeth.
No, vitamin D is actually in microgram doses! 1000 IE is 25 microgram. So something like 125 microgram of vitamin D daily. 200 microgram of MK-7, and 1000 microgram of MK-4 would be quite reasonable doses. The only question is if you need both MK-7 and MK-4, since the body does convert some MK-7 to MK-4. Vitamin K2 activates the Vitamin K Dependent Proteins (17 different kinds are known) so they can carry calcium. K2 probably doesn't have to be present constantly to do that. MK-4 does it job and disappear quickly. Mk-7 lingers in the blood. Which is better?
Its important to know that there are many forms of Vitamin K. K1 is for blood clotting health and Vitamin k2 is for bone health but MK4 and Mk7 forms. Mk4 has a shorter half life of a few hours where mk7 has a few days. In Japan they treat osteo issues with mega doses of Vitamin k2 mk4 (45,000mcg). There is a lab test for k1 but not for k2. I just think its wrong to keep saying vitamin K when in fact you should have specified K1 or K2

BTW Dr. Kate author of the book "K2 and the Calcium Paradox "
Is now recommending 100mcg of K2-MK7 per 1000i.u of D3.
Awesome testimonial thank you. I never knew it can get rid of calcium out of your arteries. Wow 🎉

I really appreciate this information, Dr. Brown. I've asked several doctors this question and didn't get a satisfactory answer. Your information makes sense. Thank you!
So glad Dr. Brown was able to help make sense of this for you! Thank you for watching 😊
Thank you so much for the awsm info Doctor Brown, we need people like you. Greetings from Texas.
Allopathic doctors know very very little about vitamins or even nutrition for that matter.
Doctors are only good for emergency situations like broken bones and surgeries. They're bad for literally everything else.
@@MOAB-UT so true
@@MOAB-UT hello there,
I have a question about supplements and lupus.
Always seek to PROTECT my LIVER and FEED my GUT (fermented Kimchi daily.)
So to be very clear, doctors LOVE their LABELS (and drugs that go with said labels.) You might be presenting some LUPUS-LIKE SYMPTOMS.
Cheers! 😄
This is the best video I’ve seen on the topic of vitamin D and K. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Answer on ratio.. jump to 9:07 .. it's vit D levels of 50 and K2-7 required is 180 mcg as per this Madame.. Your welcome.. 😁
for 5000 iu of vit d, how much for vitamin k?
@@peterpiper5300 45 mcg shud be good
@@peterpiper5300 : the levels she gave was 50 - this is the blood level of D.
Well said @@paulg687

This is great information and presented very clearly. I've started taking more D and some K2 45-80mcg. My D level is 60. Fortunately my diet is great- nutrition is a hobby of mine so I normally eat Broccoli, Spinach, Sauerkraut and Chicken. Plenty of green leafy veggies. I also take Magnesium daily.
Thank you!
@Timothy TwoTwoThree I know that. I achieved 60 via food and some supplements.
@bina nocht Hmmm
@bina nocht It can be. A little daily sun is better than a supplement anyway. Quality whole foods and exercise and avoiding the bad stuff is the way to go.
@bina nocht Thanks. I don't but I eat Kimchi and Sauerkraut. I try to avoid Soy (high in Oxalates and other bad stuff.)
Quote from webmd: "An egg yolk can contain between 67 and 192 micrograms of vitamin K2. This amount depends on what the hen eats, however. Most chicken feed today is fortified with vitamin K, and this content passes onto the egg."
Just eat 2 or 3 eggs per day and you are good to go.
Calcium? The parathyroid gland decides how much calcium is being absorbed.
Dr. Brown, your info is much appreciated and accordingly I will add more K.
I do have issues with magnesium. Tried different types of magnesium, different dosages and it still upsets my digestive tract.
Watch eonutrition videos on the subject of thiamine and the relationship with magnesium malate.
Research Zinc-L-Carnisine, a formulation which works to support the mucus barrier of the gut. Eric Berg has a good, short/concise report.
I've been a gym and health guy for years and I'm just starting to hear about vitamin k2
In other words, taking a "theraputic dose" as opposed to a "maintenance dose."
In the same material I've been reading, it's been shown there is no upper limit to the amount of K2 (MK-7) or (MK-4).
@@sweetpeace5 I am wondering how much of K2 is too much ?
This is the best information on magnesium I’ve ever seen in a comment the one for migraines I can’t pronounce name and I’m using the speaker but it’s the only magnesium that can pass through the blood brain barrier that’s why it helps with headaches and migraines so actually I think you need different forms for everything because I think we’re low and all magnesium anyway all the ones you mentioned here
This lady is great
3:17 you are welcome
I was just speaking about this to my hubby…and there was your video 😍

A genuine practical question. Just checking if any MK-7 studies have checked the supplement alone, as it may be something in NATTO (or the fermented foods that have MK-7) that is a necessary or useful cofactor?
@andrewnorris5415
Natto has both K2/MK7 and Nattokinase, which both are active.

Onions and mushrooms promote clean arteries too

Amazing information
Hello Dr. Brown:
First I would to thank you for doing these amazing videos.
I would also suggest trying the Relieve and Repair quercitin formula we have on Alkalineforlife.com
Don't forget MSM!
@@DrSusanBrown Thank you
@@fleetwoodbeechbum Thank you for the information. Where do you get the 10 mg Boron, I've seen it in 1.5 mg and 5 mg. I am already taking 500mg of Mg Oxide, but you recommend Mg bisglycinate. What is the difference between those two? Thanks for your response.
Also NEED MAGNESIUM with the Vit D3!!! Only Calcium from FOODS!!

The Massai Cattle herders are known have been producing the equivalent of about 10,000 IU's of vitamin D per day. Their D# levels must be higher than 50 surely? (mine is 120).
I believe there are on avg 100ng
Can I take 50000 iu and 1800 k2 mk7 , I am having inflammation and oesto arthritis hoping it would help
Its essential to get your Vitamin D levels checked before choosing a dose. 50,000 IU is typically only prescribed by doctors. Vitamin D and K2 can support bone and joint health, but they are not a direct treatment for inflammation or osteoarthritis..
Seems like magnesium needs to be included to mix also.

There are some studies that show K2 MK-4 can go in places where MK-7 can't, for example, the brain. Anyone familiar with this?
I haven't seen any studies but I'm taking Innovix labs full spectrum K2 which combines 500 mcg of MK-4 (as Menatetrenone) and 100 mcg of MK-7 (as Menaquinone-7). The label says MK-4 is the primary form of K2 present in the brain.

Hello SG,
There are so many opinions available online and we ttry to take the simplest path for our people to get the results they want.
We always do vitamin d and k SEPERATELY because each individual will have a different need for vitamin D. You can however actually EAT both of the pills at the same time with a fatty meal.
We use Alkaline for Life MK-7 because it has the ideal dose that Dr. Brown likes for Bone & Heart Health: alkalineforlife.com/products/mk-7
Then you can uses the correct dose of vitamin D based on your vitamin d test: alkalineforlife.com/products/vitamin-d-at-home-test-kit
We use alkalizing minerals for our calcium/magnesium and more and this can be taken right along with our Mlk-7 & D: alkalineforlife.com/collections/bone-muscle-health

Hello! Some sources suggest that 1 cup (128 grams) of natto has about 40 mcg of vitamin K. However, this may vary depending on the brand.
does k2 reverse arterial calcification?

If the D3 goes higher the parathyroïdhormoon decreases
Remember , the value of 15.
Did you get your thyroid checked?
@Aesthetic_leen
I would guess you are still very low in vitamin D.
But daily is better.

which yogurt is best for this then?🌊🤔 [ grocery store bought ones ] , Mountain High

Are you taking mk4 or mk7?
@leopold poppenberger
The doses you take of vitamin D are so high that it's medication and not supplementation.
An optimal dose would be:
Vitamin D 5000 IU
Vitamin K2 MK7 200 ug
You can calculate that 1000 IU of vitamin D3 raises the meassured value in the blood by 7 ng/ml.
Take more than that only if you meassure it and still have to low value. The individual variation is large!
A lifeguard out in the sun all day long get a dose of about 20'000 IU.
At that level the skin begins to break down the vitamin D it produces, so obviously the body don't want more!
For 10000 iu vitamin d3 how much vitamin k2 required per day
in general for for K2- as MK-7 we recommend 180-200 mcgs. Here is a video for Dr. Brown that may be helpful drbrown.cc/3tpdpZR

Hello Dr Susan, is it ok for anyone to take Vitamin K2 ??
Can A PRE-DIABETIC take Vitamin K2 ??

Just remember that vitamin K2 MK-7 ultimately converts to MK-4.
How much vitamin k 7 to take with 5.000 d ...
Hello! I have found that the optimal intake of vitamin K is between 90 - 200 mcg daily in the MK-7 form.
Is this 180-200mcg K2 to be taken every day? Thanks

@@DrSusanBrown thank you Dr Brown!

(Incidentally, I've seen a study which found that exposing the nether regions to the sun increases vitamin D synthesis fourfold!)
So, the precise relationship between sun exposure and vitamin D synthesis is debatable.
We recommend testing your levels: alkalineforlife.com/products/vitamin-d-at-home-test-kit

K2 dear
Thanks, Doctor. You've just confirmed that the reading I've recently done re. K2 is accurate. I started taking K2 mk7 and 2000 iu D3 supplements daily (I don't get enough sun) 👍
Glad I could help!
Too low. FOR SURE GET BLOOD WORK 2 B sure! Don’t forget that your ABSORPTION efficiency of Vitamin D is reduced with age…
Is there vitamin k toxicity in the 400-500 mg?
Mina Espinosa Researchers were using 45 milligrams of vitamin K2 mk4 some years ago. Given the chemical structure, I won't get worried about a microgram level intake. Were are you getting 500 milligrams of what form of vitamin K. K1? K2? K2 with side chain length? Do you know the difference between micrograms and milligrams?
Thanks a lot doctor
You're welcome!
THX :)
Did you get an answer to this question
Very nice lady!
I have not seen this correlation. You might change forms of VIt. K just to see.
She said if you wabt +10 vit d you need 1000ui .but in how much time?
Hi Devin! Here's one of my blogs talking in depth about vitamin D, testing your levels, and suggested amounts. Give this a read and contact me again if you have more questions! Be well.

Hi Devin,
Typically it takes 6 weeks to 3 months to raise your Vitamin D level. You can start increasing the amount of Vitamin D 3 you are taking and the retest your level after 3 months to see if you were able to raise the level with additional 1,000 ius of Vitamin D 3. Here is an article we think would be helpful for you. www.betterbones.com/bone-nutrition/how-much-vitamin-d-should-you-take/?
This is good knowledge for people who have skin problems like psoriasis eczema and dermatitis. Vitamin D has been shown to cure people who have psoriasis. And also but am not sure but, I read that niacin makes it worse. If this helps anyone. I sure hope it does.
Thats why they recommend dead sea and sun exposure for that.
@@tea_earl-grey-hot Intentionally Exposing your Skin to Sun isn't good for Skin at least not without sunscreen and what do you mean by Dead Sea? Swim in a Salt Lake or Sea? That's not a good idea for skin health especially if you have dry skin..
@@Xighor and with sunscreen the skin doesn't develop vitamin D. So, using sunscreen is stupid, too.
@@tea_earl-grey-hot depends how long you're going outside and how hot it is outside if you can get sun burn you're doing more damage to your skin health and than the small amount of Vitamin D you absorb, best to just take a vitamin lol
Sun ages your skin pretty badly
Vit D3 and Vit K2.
thank u this helped
What are your thoughts on my Dad, and 84 year old guy with an artificial heart valve (thus Warfarin) and an 18-year-old magnesium wasting condition for which we don't know the cause. His docs have given up. I would love to increase his D levels and K2, but I don't want to mess up his INR and how do I account for his low magnesium? I wish to do no harm to him. He does receive Mg infusions several times a week yet his Mg levels remain around 1.
Good video. I've been concerned about just that for a couple of years. Now I can put it to rest. Thank you
You're welcome, Nick!
K7 just gets passed out of the body so take more than "necessary" is fine and you have to make sure it more than D3 or else you end up with bone problems like sensitive teeth.
No no no never take MORE K2 than D3! You literally take micrograms (mcg) of K2 versus milligrams of D3!
@@larsnystrom6698 may I ask you question? If vit D 10.000 iu, is 200 mcg K2 will be too much taken together with it?
I take 8000ug d3 and 800mcg of k2mk7 3 times a day with a meal. sometime 2 times a day of i have only 2 meals in the day.
Wow loads of confusion on this topic
Its important to know that there are many forms of Vitamin K. K1 is for blood clotting health and Vitamin k2 is for bone health but MK4 and Mk7 forms. Mk4 has a shorter half life of a few hours where mk7 has a few days. In Japan they treat osteo issues with mega doses of Vitamin k2 mk4 (45,000mcg). There is a lab test for k1 but not for k2. I just think its wrong to keep saying vitamin K when in fact you should have specified K1 or K2
Dr. Brown has many articles you can find on Vitamin K- K1, K2, Mk-7 and Mk-4 in her blog www.betterbones.com/?s=Vitamin+K
