Dooood, for real, you are the man. Just bought a used mower, & went to drain tank as it only ran when choked. Fuel dripped out, should be free flowing. So I put the compressed air to it, now she starts to flow. So I want to replace line, & already ordered the parts. Thank you for taking the time to make this.
Thanks for your kind words .. it always makes me feel good when one of my vids helps someone in any small way.. congrats on the new machine and kudos for bringing it back to life
Thanks for letting me know.. it means the world when I can help someone.. hope the repair went well and thanks for subscribing and watching.. see you soon
Very informative. I have the same mower. Have to change the line from the filter to the tank as it's stock from the factory. Bought the mower brand new in 2005. I changed the filter a month ago and noticed the old line was separating inside since it's double layered
Yes ethanol will eventually destroy the inside of lines.. I tend to replace lines on anything I touch.. fuel line is cheap and easy and stops future issues before they happen
@@MunkyWrench It's actually not the ethanol that does the damage. It's benzene in the gas which is in all gas unless you buy that canned crap made in a laboratory
Great video! With just the metal elbow and rubber grommet what keeps gas from leaking? I would have thought there would be a nut and washer to tighten.
That's it the metal is larger than the grommet so when it pushes thru it expands and seals the hole. There's no pressure from inside and it works very well
Really good info. I have a similar model craftman. The 2003 gt5000 which has the shifter on the middle floor. I hope it's as easy to take apart to get to the gas tank. I have not come acoss another video that showed how to take the whole top off so thanks for that! How did you know Bob was my uncle?
I don't have the fitting on me to measure it.. I'm guessing the hole is now too big to seal the grommet now. U can try finding a larger O/D grommet with same I/D .. call a parts store even if it's in another state they can mail to you. In the past I've made that mistake luckily on a top mounted hole like this and just sealed the hole and drilled a new hole the correct size. Is yours on the bottom of the tank?
Great video. Lots of info and to-the-point. One thought/question. My YT 4000 has a 2nd line that got chewed by critters years ago so now I have to spray starting fluid into the carb to start it. I assumed this 2nd line led back to the gas tank in order to keep some sort of vacuum. Once it starts it runs fine and I can shut it off and restart 20 minutes later with no issues. I watched the entire video hoping to get more info on that but there is only only 1 line on the system you showed. Can you tell me what's up with that 2nd line?
The second-in-command is a vent usually to stop a vacuum from forming and allow fuel to flow freely .. if you have trouble starting without priming it could be the 2nd line closes the system enough to allow fuel to be drawn up the line .. once fuel is drawn up it works fine
Also if u have a fuel pump on yours u may need to replace the short hose that connects the pump to the valve cover. It's what pulses the pump and if it's cracked or leaking it won't have the strength needed to prime for original starting. I have a zero w that problem I'm fixing tomorrow.
So, I replaced my bushing and the elbow-ordered from sears direct because i had fuel leaking from that area. put the new ones in place and its leaking too. This should be easy, why would it be still leaking?
The only thing I can think is that the hole in the tank is not round. Maybe worn or chipped.. if it is round u may have gotten the wrong size rubber bushing.. there are 2 sizes to choose from.. if the larger is too thick u can drill the hole large enough to accommodate it
Also check a few inches away from the bushing . U could have a pinhole or Crack in the tank somewhere else and the fuel is finding its way down to low spot so looks like it's dripping from the bushing but could be inches away.. even up a side. Feel around with a paper towel for a wet spot and find the leak
@AgentDeCamp4 sorry about that I am out driving ATM but when I get home I'll remedy that.. they are pretty standard across the board here's an Amazon link www.amazon.com/xuyunming-AM122215-Fuel-Pickup-M132706/dp/B0CMH89CBN/ref=asc_df_B0CMH89CBN/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693711673639&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2420413271278290499&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012076&hvtargid=pla-2266133253753&psc=1&mcid=1dc03fb67478305ab28abb6dca1a1d55&gad_source=1
@AgentDeCamp4 you can search .. mower gas pickup.. and find the one specifically for your machine.. the main thing is knowing if yours is straight or 45 degree angle.. the sizes are pretty standard across the board
I will look in the shop tomorrow for the specific fuel line size. Honestly I buy it buy the roll at the local parts house. It's standard size but can't think of it now off hand.. ill message tomorrow
Hey thank you so much for this tutorial. I was able to follow your strips and replace my elbow and rubber bushing. However… more my tractor won’t turn over. Is there a switch or wire that I may have disconnected or hooked up wrong that’s not letting it turn over??? It was cranking like crazy but not running when the gas line wasn’t working.
There's a wire that goes to a switch by the shifter under the panelif I remember correctly.. a safety switch that needs to be plugged in to show that the blades are NOT turned on in order to start. There's a switch under the seat as well.. and one on the brake pedal. U have to push brake to start. If any of those switches are not connected u will get nothing when turn key
That video was over a year ago.. the part numbers change from time to time .. I believe I showed the parts numbers in the video so at the time of filming they were correct.. let me know if they have changed I will pin a new comment to the top with updated part numbers.. thanks for helping out and for giving thumbs up, subscribing and taking the time to comment
In some cases yes. But more often than not they are not removable. I've forced and broken them and wasted time and money trying to repair themwuth epoxy.. especially on machines I don't know the history I don't bother unless I have to
That was close to a year ago but always happy to help.. I believe I discussed the part numbers in the comments but if u need them I'll be happy to look them up for u
Sounds like an easy thing to save time I agree.. but if u work on hundreds of these a month you soon realize that people before u have glued or epoxies them on because they were loose and vibrating off.. so then I come along to repair and they break.. I've stopped doing it if it doesn't come off easy because it's time and expense to buy new ones
News flash…. Should have looked closer before taking the shroud all apart. Many of those tanks are already set up to use the grommet bushing with the elbow in them. Doubt that this was drilled out other than at the factory. Grommet and elbow can be replaced in about 10 minutes without pulling the tank.
Thats a great point and definitely should look for that however while that was quite a while ago , I can say I often do 5 to 10 repairs per day and if u watch my videos I don't spend time doing ANY work that is not necessary.. in the interest of wasting time so if I pulled it apart there was an absolute need to do it in this case. I do appreciate u watching and taking the time to comment. Every comment helps me make better videos in the future. So thankyou so much
He sounds pretty amish for a bald dude, i think ill pass on his global warming advice as the frost line has steadily increased over the past decade but maybe ill take the mower advice if i ever buy an antique for 50 buck's. Btw, Bob's not my uncle 😉

It's pretty similar so you shouldn't have a problem.. thanks for watching im glad it helped. Lol Bob is always
You know who made it by just looking at the seat and the missing cushion 😢😢😮😢
Mine didn’t have the switch in the shifter or 5 screws only push on grip rings with teeth and the front and back tabs on the plastic shifter housing
Thanks for the video
We only got a little rain today. I hope you are doing well!
West Texas and it rains every 6 months a tad😢😢😢

what was the name of the part that you used to fix the tank
It's called a Stem and Bushing Kit.. its also galled a fuel tank rubber grommet ..
