Some words ... Wonderfull Touching Historic! I am fortunate to have knowledge of these unassuming pioneering women, and its Great that many more know of them NOW ... Hary Batt well done to you sir!.
Here is a regrettable/shameful aspect of this incident ... Harry Batt requested The Women's Football Association (1969/93) to send an Official England Team to this world competition for Women's Football. The W.F.A. said "No and If you do it, we will ban you for life, and The girls for a long time!" Harry recognized the importance of The Advancement of Female Football in a global context and "England should be part of It!. So HE (Massive Respect To Him) organized an Unofficial England Team and financed the trip! ... When they came back home The W.F.A. Banned the players for three months and Banned Harry Batt (from female football) for life! As a massive supporter of female football and a researcher of it, I am sickened that the W.F.A. did this to The Girls and what the did to Harry Batt was disgraceful ... a man who wanted to Advance Female Football !. A further point to mention about The W.F.A. they rejected a Women's World Cup to be held in England, fully financed by prominent people in football and entertainment ... it was meant to be held in1974!
Yes, the Women's Football Association at that time controlled by men ...Pat Gwynne and Arthur Hobbs and following what the FA wanted to happen. The world has been tragic in many ways for women for centuries - but hopefully that is changing. This show has been inspiring and all should get the thanks and respect they deserve. Really looking forward to Copa 71. Harry Batt is a true hero.
What wasn't mentioned - the England ladies were knocked out of the the competition, but they were such a hit, Mexico put on an extra match for them. So many of them were injured or maybe in hospital, they had to borrow some Mexican players to make up a team.
