- In this video lecture, Professor Fink reviews the pathophysiology of Cardiovascular Disease (describing relationships between atherosclerosis, increased risk of blood clots, hypertension and heart failure).
Professor Fink then describes the actions & uses of the "Statins" (HMG Co-A Reductase Inhibitors), Cholsterol Absorption Inhibitors [ezetimibe (Zetia)), and the Anticoagulants (warfarin & heparin), and the Platelet Aggregation Inhibitors [including aspirin & clopidogrel (Plavix)].

And here I am, 4th year med. student and still watching Prof. Fink videos.
So thankful.
Professor never disappoints. 7 years after we still indulging.
Dear prof. Fink, I cannot ever thank you enough for uploading these on UA-cam. I remember looking at my pharmacology books at the beginning of the session and thinking - how will I ever learn such a dry subject full of weird drug names. But enter - your channel. You're a teacher in the truest sense and no less than a magician! Because now I am officially in love with pharmacology. P.S. I also love how in your lectures we get pathology, microbiology, physiology, applied aspects AND pharmacology! It's unbelievable. Love how you correlate everything and provide reasoning for everything. Thank you once again, hope you're doing well. Looking forward to watching more videos from you! - Renuka
Thank You for your kind words. I truly appreciate it! Best Wishes for your SUCCESS! -- professor fink
I wanted to comment and the only thing I can think of is... Thank you! My nursing career and success is that much better because of your passion and ability to teach.
I am a Pharmacy graduate and preparing for licensing exam to become a pharmacist in Canada.. This video helped me refresh my p'cology knowledge..Thank you so much Sir... It is because of mentors like you we become students with excellent knowledge...
Thankyou for making students to fall in love with the subject.
You are the BEST!! I just finished nursing school and passed my boards. Hopefully I'll obtain a job soon, but in the meantime, I want to study for ME and not an exam! A good nurse should never stop studying, right? This is how I found your videos. Many thanks!
I've watched 5 of your videos to refresh my knowledge after graduating as an NP. Excellent way of describing cardiac medications! Thanks Professor Fink!
Dear Prof Fink, thank you for putting your lectures on UA-cam. You explain concepts so clearly and it's really helping my understanding. Many many thanks!!
very simple to understand, thank you!! I've been working as a NYC Paramedic for 10 years and double my knowledge in 3 hours than last ten years!!
I am a fourth year student in Ethiopia, professor Fink made so easy for me......professor you are everythings ; you make laughs and at the same time I am learning a lot... I wish i was attending your lectures live

Great videos. Lots of so helpul knowledge and information.
I look forward to seeing from you soon.

Regarding Cholesterol: while further research on the causes and mechanisms of atherosclerosis continue, there is still OVERWHELMING consensus that dietary intake of saturated fats & cholesterol IS a factor (genetics & other possible environmental factors not withstanding).
Diet & exercise should ALWAYS be the 1st resort. Medications should only be used when "natural" approaches fall short in managing the disorder.

Hi Professor Fink, much research has been done on saturated fatty acids improving HDL and TG ratios while also improving LDL phenotype A larger particle size and lowering phenotype B which poses a greater risk. Dr Ron Krauss and others have thoroughly studied this area.

Thank you, Professor Fink.
that was really good in many ways. you explained a lot..including how aspirin and warfarin work differently. So wish you were our pharmacology lecturer. We have a very 'knowledgeable' chinese lecturer who struggles with English and speaks so slow its painful to listen to and the reason i (and other students) have to surf utube to try and learn what our lecturer SHOULD be teaching...or at least teaching well enough that the students understand and learn from. keep posting please! :-)
sandy mandy story of my life
I understand this better now
This is really fascinating, even if the majority of the information isn't needed for the biology A level
i want to suggest one thing more , before going for dental treatment, ask for taking any anti coagulant or aspirin etc, with regards
Thanks, nice video
thanks sir..u r a great lecturer
i am going to beecome a great doctor thanks to professor fink and khan academy
You a doctor yet?
would be amazing if these notes were available to print off. Ive watched maybe 10 videos, love the way you make it simple. I've learned more in 3 hrs than reading half my pharmacology book. Great vids!

study: The Cholesterol Myths by UffeRavnskov, MD, PhD
I have a very quick question (hopefully it’s not silly of me to ask) but since statin reduce the conversion of saturated fat into cholesterol, then what will happen to all of those saturated fat that are still linger in the liver?
saturated fat is used as an energy source to make ATP. If the individual is physically active, the saturated fats will be depleted. If the individual is not active, fat will accumulate causing "fatty liver". medlineplus.gov/fattyliverdisease.html
I stopped taking Statins as they made me worse than better. I changed my diet and started to feel much better. Statins are bad trust me. You need LDL cholesterol and it can be reduced naturally rather than starving your cells of the cholesterol they need to function. Basically, Statins lie to your cells and leave them starved. This starved my brain and I was extremely confused, ached, liver damage and it would have got worse and I would have died anyway, so the Statins just make you worse in a different way and their way is not good. Change your diet and do not just take statins without researching first. I wish I had. Luckily, my son helped me. He saved my life by stopping the Statins and feeding me things such as red apples, beetroots, kale, greens, fish, brocolli and I felt better quite quickly. Good luck all eat healthy and stay safe.
I agree with YOU! Diet & exercise should ALWAYS be the 1st resort. Medications should only be used when "natural" approaches fall short in managing the disorder.
don't get old :D
