- CBS2 has learned hundreds of bodies of COVID patients are still being stored in a refrigerated morgue on the waterfront. They've been there for months, despite many families having asked that their loved ones be buried on Hart Island; CBS2's Dave Carlin reports.
That's just ridiculous. Why can't these people get it together????
They're called democrats. They don't care about people living, or dead..

Why is HART ISLAND quota of 10 visitors.....bizarre!!!! Two other islands on eastern side of Staten Island.....plenty of room.....Hoffman and Swinburne islands.....of course NYC government keeps them off limits.

Even India can do it better, although they are having a hard time with all the cases and deaths. They are cremating the bodies as soon as possible.
I agree with you I have my son here with me he was murdered back in 2015 and I don't have to go to the cemetery and get rained on he is right here with me and cremation services in alot cheaper if you don't have insurance God bless you all always 🙏🙌
Who pays for all of these burials? No help for unexpected deaths. Time to make decisions about what the families want to do? Start move the bodies to their final resting place. RIP
@Jamarcus Washington Maybe the survivors did not know about federal funding or to proud. It should not be a bad thing to ask for help when the unexpected happens.
When the hell is these people going to get a proper funeral or cremation this is what happens when common sense does not prevail anymore and elected officials should be held accountable
It's difficult to bury people in winter time because the ground is frozen. Lighten-up folks.

The person speaking says at the end the families are "trying to decide what to do". I know when families are faced with these situations they are asked to make decisions. And the county morgue holds the bodies for MANY MONTHS until they decide what they want done. Do all these people want them buried??? Usually county does cremation then disposes of bodies. The county foots the bill. If the family claims the body they pay. Our organization has helped several people through this process. They will cremate and people can claim the ashes. I'm sorry if this is TMI.
This is an outrageous situation and should have never happened. But please realize that if the county handles it that's usually protocal.

Potter’s Field on Harts Island, run by the NYCDOC, only has room for a limited amount of burials. Under normal conditions, communal burial sites are bulldozed and reused every twenty years or so in order to free up space for new burials. There just isn’t enough available acreage on the island to accommodate several hundred bodies at once.
What happens to the bones of these poor souls after a bulldozer comes along? We have two islands off the eastern shore of Staten Island....plenty of room !!!

Don't insinuate this is due to the number of deaths. Funeral homes flat out refused to hold ceremonies for those who died of/with covid.
I hope they had the decency to at least salt the body first.
If families requested public burial why hasn't the city complied. Round up the street thugs and make them dig some graves instead of killing, robbing, and looting!

I had a son murdered in 2015 didn't know that it was going to happen life changing on a dime anyway I didn't have insurance on him and I was divorced from his daddy long story short My Dad had to help me with the cremation services and see me through it because his own Dad couldn't help at the time so I have my son here with me and I don't have to go get out into the weather and was like the cheapest way to go so all I want to say is my heart ❤️ goes out to all the families all over the world because we didn't ask for this but we have to pull together and trying to stop the virus 😷 and God bless us all Amen brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus amen
