Why "Hope" Defeated The Devil in The Sandman

- In Episode 4 of Netflix The Sandman Dream fights Lucifer Morningstar in The Oldest Game. He uses Hope as his final move and wins the game. This Video goes over why this worked.
The comics during Sandman Overture explained it clearly as to why Hope bests the End of Creation. During overture, Dream made a mistake by not killing off a mad star that he was supposed to dispose. This event created a sequence that threatened the end of the whole universe. Dream, together with another aspect of himself (who was secretly Desire all along), ventured to fix this mistake and met a young girl named "hope". She was eventually killed but when the universe was on the verge of destruction, she helped the dreamers that Desire gathered on a ship to dream for a reality in which Morpheus has always killed the mad star, thus the universe wasn't destined for doom. One of the members of the first circle even stated that Dream should cling onto the name (hope) of the girl because he will find it useful when his life depends on it. This is that life depending situation the first circle member was talking about.

Lucifer could have won the game only if he accept that his hope is in vain and makes himself vain itself lol

From my understanding, the only thing that can usurp someone’s hope is knowing the truth. If the truth contradicts what you hoped for, it will destroy all anticipation. If you know the truth, there is no going back. It rules the mind.
Well The Most High says to Moses:” I am that I am”. So the fact that they are playing “the world’s oldest game “. Having that knowledge,would make sense

Nicely explained. My thoughts relates to your ideas and perhaps the meaning of Hope was the aspect of Light bringer that the name Lucifer bestowed by God. Maybe Morpheus had Lucifer reminiscent of himself so Lucifer is forced to concede because nothing can't kill the Light Bringer.
The episode also highlights that Morpheus highly regards that Lucifer Morningstar is no mere devil. Morpheus proceeds to remember Lucifer with complementing adjectives and seems to be acquainted before for imprisonment of his former lover for 10,000 years
Lucifer is definitely a complex character. You are right that he would remember from before lucifer became the fallen angel and would know of his qualities.

Lucifer did not use anti-matter, but Anti-Life. As in the DC Anti-Life equation that Darkseid uses. Honestly this is the sort of an dumb analysis someone who has not read the comics or knows anything about the greater comics universe this TV shows is based of would give. To put it shortly and bluntly (with spoilers), Lucifer has no "weakens to hope" and is playing the long game. Lucifer can and has also given up rulership of Hell and gives zero shits for the damned in it.
Well for someone who reads the “greater comics” your explanations doesnt make sense and leads to even more questions and confusions compared to this video’s analysis.
@@kennethbryan5563 That is because the source material would take 5 written pages to condense the plot, list the references and give a summery overall impact on the DC continuity. One small example of this is the Blue Lantern Core, which uses Hope as the power source of their rings.
Honestly I thought he beat her because the only thing that could beat Hope was Despair which is the opposite of Hope and is also Dreams' sister.
