Installing Pedestal Seat Bases in Grizzly Tracker

- I had a chance to install new pedestal seat bases in my Tracker Grizzly Sportsman. The reason being was a better ease of using the outboard motor.
I recommend thinking your project through and taking your time so you do not go through any structural supports.

I like your mods. I have a 1548 and love it. Did you paint the pedestal or was it already painted? If it was already painted, where did you get it? And, if you painted it; what colors did you choose because it seems to match the boat. Thanks
Thanks. Painted it myself. It's hard to find, but I used Hunter Specialties Olive Drab, black, mud brown and marsh grass. www.hunterspec.com/product/camo-spray-paint/
Screwing into thin sheet metal/aluminum, use a full thread screw. What brand seat did you use? Do you know the weight capacity? I'm kind of a big guy. Would like better seating for my Tracker 2072.
I always use full thread screw. Pan heads are just constructed different.

I’m going to add some to my new 2024 16x48 tracker. Did you try marking the out side holes then drawing an “X” through them to find center? IDK if this would line up, just curious
That might work. Just make sure of where you drill your hole that there is no cross bracing in the way.
The deck of my boat is plywood, do you have any thoughts about installing a seat into plywood?
my last jon boat had a wooden deck.....the floor was removable. I installed these same plates, but I used stainless machine screws with a washer/nut on the back to keep the screws from being pulled through the wood too easily.

@@dom4638 Just make sure your deck is above the bottom of the boat enough for these plates before you drill the hole. Can't remember how far they extend down...otherwise you can use the dome shaped plates...downside to them is they leave a trip hazard on the floor when not in use.

Cut the spring to lower the seat. Screwing to soft metal like aluminum is best finished with a hand screwdriver. Impact or drill gun too easy to strip but you got away with it.🙂

I was looking at that....the bottom of the spring is actually flat and the last loop is actually wound a bit tighter..I'm assuming so it sits flat on the pedestal....
If I cut the spring, I'm not sure it will sit right and the end of the spring might actually dig into the nylon insert. ....

Another critical issue is to drill the correct size pilot hole....too big and you are screwed.
