      I agree, he fondly reminds me of all of my old University profs in the arts and sciences department. It's great to see others share their processes.

    I really like how you showed the photo process but also talked about some things that could be better. I think that’s really inspiring and shows people starting out it doesn’t have to be perfect to be good. I think it looks really nice man. Keep it up!

    Watching this come to life during the livestream was such a treat! I love the brush strokes you added using the large brush, they were just the right touch. The blue highlight was a stroke of brilliance and was just the pop it needed. Always enjoy all of your content! 💜😉

      Definitely can relate to the difficulties finding time for painting! I'm just kinda starting to dive back into it this year for the first time since high school (~15yrs), lucky if I get twice a month. For me, the time I find is totally worth putting the other bs aside. Painting is an outlet where I can stop being so critical of myself and just create.

    As an artist, I do use a lot of references for my artwork, though sometimes I will paint from imagination when I am confident to do so. I'm painting one right now from imagination - which is working out quite well!

    I like how you keep mentioning that you work for only about 4 hours on the painting. DaVinci spent years on the Monalisa, some say he never called it a finished work! It moved with him across Italy he continued to go back to it and refine his “vision” of her. No photos back then! Enjoyed watching your video Sam, thank you for continuing to share your art journey with us. Be safe out there and keep doing what you do!

    How do you hang the Masonite board later do you add wood to cradle it?

      A floating frame maybe.

    • @GalleryBry
      @GalleryBry 3 роки тому

      If it’s 1/8” hardboard it can fit in any standard photo frame if you remove the glass. If you would like a nicer frame, most framers have options for closed corner frames and more.

    artist often not knowingly paint themselves when painting other people; I noticed you really emphasize the nose and make the chin much smaller; try using a grid in the future, it really helped me!

  • @demsyciu
    @demsyciu 2 роки тому

    The colour and the dark and light areas i think is okay, but i think you missed it hardly on the Philtrum (area under the nostrils).
    You put in under the nostril, not the tip of the nose, so i think that also made the lips a little bit slight off of the center.

    Slew,
    Did you study with Sharon Sprung? I thought she was in that montage at the beginning where you showed some of the work you did in the atelier.
    I love your videos and instruction. It is commonsense and you tell when you veer off on your own path because of your experiences and preferences. It’s good to be original.
