I think 343 knew exactly what they were doing with this one. They knew the Mark V armor would induce PEAK levels of fomo and that would allow them to price it as high as possible, full well knowing it’s still a terrible value comparatively. Leaves a lot of us, myself included, torn cause while I loveeee the classic armor and Mark VI I don’t know if I can stomach $22 for it based on principle alone
Even more of a shame that so many people are giving in and buying it. Just reaffirms 343’s mindset and proves to them that they can continue doing it :(
@@CargoShorts7 I know how you feel. I was actually fully prepared to buy it, I even managed to snag an extra 1000 credits with Microsoft Rewards. I basically saved up for this armor. But even though it came with more than I was expecting and even though I like all the items in the bundle (which is exceptionally rare for me), I can't justify spending THAT amount of money on it.
Most of us blow more on a night out at the bar or going out to eat each week. Pass on life’s little pleasures for a week for something you’ll enjoy in a video game. Easy enough

What a good idea and what a shame that they didn’t do this. Better yet, add classic variants for the appropriate vehicles too. I’d TOTALLY pay the price they are asking for all that. Man, such a missed opportunity.

We should be able to customize the helmet on both Infinite Mark VI & Combat Evolved Mark V. What with cross-core helmets being such a big feature of Season 5, I don't understand how this isn't already a thing. The helmets from both armor kits should also be usable in regular customization.
I think the blue flame needs to be brought back as a legendary campaign reward and maybe introduce a new banished flavored red flame helmet effect for LASO, the flames are classic to halo but otherwise a charm with a bundle of skulls for LASO or maybe a brute skull for a change... so many possibilities but 343 really chose none

They'll never do legendary or laso rewards like they did in the past. We've been asking since the game came out. Instead we have a shitty "max rank" reward so we have to grind thousands of hours in multiplayer to get a half-decent cosmetic, there will be nothing for solo modes.
They want to boost there MP engagement and are afraid if they give us a good campaign reward we won't purchase MTX.
Why for free when they can charge you $15?
A LASO reward would make up for a lot. I completed LASO a few days after the campaign was released so it would be fantastic but it's a pipe dream.

Armour from legacy games should be unlockable through gameplay in campaign or multiplayer - or at most the battlepass. The shop should be for 343's own designs.
I completely agree. I am not a big grinder guy, I’d much rather buy stuff (for a *reasonable* price obviously) part of the reason I stopped playing sea of thieves, but legacy armour like mark v should be a campaign/career award. We need a reward for laso.
Let them make money in peace, if this fuels new content I could care less.

I don't really understand this argument. The reason the paid Reach stuff was so controversal is because of how Reach themed the game/season 1 was. It felt bad having to pay to make our old spartans, when that was supposed to be the entire point of the season.
This, however, is just a throwback kit. It's overpriced, but it being based on a classic design is hardly an issue imo. This armor set hasn't been usable in basically any Halo game after 1, so it's not like there's a precedent for it always having been there. Even the Mark 5 helmet has alternatives. This isn't paying to recreate your old spartan, this is paying to look like OG Chief, which isn't really that bad. It's probably the best anniversary pack the could've done, and I imagine a lot ofpeople are just happy to have a classic Mark 5 set tha looks so good.

It's a beautiful recreation of the CE Mark V. The art team knocked it out of the park. With that said, $20 for a kit, 2 coatings, and a visor is ridiculous, especially when it's been found that bots can use some of the pieces of the kit with no restrictions. This should've been a reward for completing the campaign on Legendary or LASO instead, or maybe as a reward for hitting max rank in MCC or something (since unlike Halo 5, I don't think there's a reward in Infinite or MCC for hitting max rank in MCC). It's just silly that you can buy Halo CE for less money than what they're asking for for the armor in Infinite. Hell, the entirety of MCC itself often goes on sale for about as much as this armor kit goes for.

I have a feeling this and flood were modeled and intended to be cores and changed last minute. They would have so much more potential as cores but instead they were all sold at $22. For $22 I expected Mark V to include classic weapon models :/

I bought it and immediately felt buyers remorse, only because I’m not big on these types of micro transactions. I rarely pay for cosmetics, and definitely have never paid so much. But my nostalgia was too strong.

Why? Its a free to play game, and its cosmetic only. You don't have to buy it. This is their model they chose for the game to be open to as many players as possible, and it clearly is working if they aren't budging on prices. People are buying them. Its a vocal minority who get up in arms about cosmetics in a free to play game. Most don't care or are buying it. How can you say its scummy when its optional cosmetics in a free to play game? I'd reserve scummy for something that gave you a gameplay advantage for money which they don't do.

This should've been a reward for an in game achievement. As you said, they could have made this a reward for completing the campaign on legendary! It would give an incentive to buy the campaign and 343i would make MORE money! Crazy how a random gamer has better ideas than the paid employees...

@@NAJALU yeah that's fine! I'm willing to grind to Hero rank to get the Infinite Chief armor. That being said, canon armor sets should be earnable in game, campaign or multiplayer. Otherwise, it takes away the prestige of the armor and the sense of accomplishment when equpping them. For example, if you saw someone using Recon in H3, you'd think "dang that guy/gal completed the vidmaster challenges which takes a lot of skill!" Now it's just "oh they paid $20 for the CE armor"

Had a dream last night where they’d added a variety of armour/helmets based on the different species within the banished- one had a sort of feather crest and looked like skermishers, one had cbrn but in a more grunt style ect- and even in the dream it was expensive

Looks amazing, price is a bit much for me, and seeing it atleast once every match on day 1 made me appreciate the Mark VI for being an unlock. I just have a massive love for armors and skins you have to work for through achievements and I'd love to see more added.

It’s a free to play game so they need to monetize it somehow. I think it’s possible to have both earn-able and purchasable items though. Hopefully they figure something out in that regard.

So 3 years after the game launched we finally get an opportunity to spend money to get a cosmetic that should arguably be the starting default armor for everyone. And on top of that, it costs more than entire map packs used to back in the day.

I do hope they eventually show love to the Mark IV armor with like a Spartan Jerome armor core, but only if it comes from an event or season acquisition cause the most I will spend in total is $20 on the game, and that was just for the season 1 and 2 premium passes.
They could make it a whole red team set, the only thing they would have to change for Douglas and Alice is the coatings.
Honestly, I'd love to use the reach armor pieces on the mkv kit. Have make my reach spartan accurate to ce.

Hey! I do agree spending 22 EUR on a kit is pretty expensive. On the other hand it DOES look really great.
Would be great if there would be a reward for completing LASO Campaing in Infinite, since it is the only Halo game I managedto complete it and the first one where I am part of the community since day 1.
Also, the Banished deception coating for the Wasp isn't unlockable via campain, even if stated so. I hope 343 will be able to fix that one as well someday.
Struggling RN with just Mythic on; took me over a week to beat the final boss on Boom/Catch. Any tips?
Imagine if we could set your armor to be a specific core and/or kit in our community campaign maps. This way we could remake Halo CE era stories and force your Spartan to look like a Mark V, or maybe force someone to look like an ODST with Rakshasa or another future core pr kit.
Here’s my ideas for some campaign completion rewards
Complete campaign: CE styled AR weapon model
Legendary: CE magnum styled sidekick model
LASO: reflective Chrome armor coating
Or….THAT BLUE HYDRA COATING THATS BEEN SITTING IN THE MENU FOR 2 YEARS AND STILL HASNT BEEN RELEASED
As for my thoughts on the mkV, I couldn’t resist and bought it. Mostly to make myself feel better since I’m still less than halfway to unlocking the mk6
If they ever add a Gen 2 armor core I would love to see Master Chief's Mark VI Mod added to Infinite as a kit as well to complete the collection.
Yeah a lot of people would just be mad to see it unfortunately but it is a iconic look and for many people it was the first one we saw. I’d prefer the halo 4 design with the darker green and no colored under suit. But it could come with an extra coating that is the halo 5 look as well as Chief’s cracked visor from halo 5.
We do have those shoulders, and honestly, they look real good in Infinite for some reason. I've used them on various Mk VII builds I've done, because it hits this middle ground of being big and bulky, but streamlined in a unique way. Hard to describe it, but I tend to 'fashion' setup a lot now with Infinite, due to how much shit there is. It feels wild, like with the whole cross core helmet stuff, I ended up making Chimera core with the Mk V(b) EOD and that one white Mirage coating into a Storm Trooper look, or clone trooper.. It looked pretty damn awesome, and there's still so much more I can mess with!
Though, I really want more shit that I can unlock on my own skill/playtime, not money wise. I've.. Probs spent maybe around.. $500+ CAD on Infinite I wanna take a guess at. Still not as much as other games, and I do not feel buyer's remorse (yet), but I just wanna earn more stuff with time/casual play, than just.. wallet warrior my way.

It looks nice, but that's not remotely worth it. If they're gonna do the same thing with any other future legacy armor sets then you bet people will be upset about it.

im 100% on board with a helmet reward for finishing the campaign on legendary. some of my favorite memories in 3 and Reach where trying to shoot for those legendary campaign armors.

343, you gave us this kit system! The ability to have a pre-made design (For the most bit, older kits cannot being changed for now, like all of Noble team's kits and earlier HCS kits being unchangeable) and swap to it on a whim..
Why can we not make a spartan setup, save it as a kit, and have like multiple kits setup that way? It could even be shareable, allowing someone to copy another dude's kit with one or two button presses and wear it, would make Machinima makers lives so much easier (unsure if it would be needing to have the pieces from the kit to work, but eh, whatever, that's something that would be figured out if this is chatted about more). I make so many spartan designs and even started digging into designing up fireteams because of how much there is to make now, but if I want to go with a 'default' setup that I absolutely prefer to run around in, and I've done a spartan setup for a fireteam, I have to go through and change everything...
It's pain, please 343, allow us to make our own kits to be able to quickly swap to an older setup we've done if we want to!

Gotta give full props to the designers who made it, it looks fantastic, but damn you to whoever decided the price, it should have been 117 points for the og 117 that was sold on 11/7.. the stars were aligned and all you had to do was make it affordable! Heck even gift it to people who 100% CEA on 360 or MCC. A damn shame it costs as much as a full game so I bought one instead of this.. glad its here but I hope to see it at a reduced price, I just fear all the purchases will tell the big wigs that these prices are fine when its far from. Whats even weirder is the closeness of the colors to other coatings, and the fact other coatings look closer to CEs (and CEAs cover) armor color, they couldnt have just bundled old skins and make it cheaper for those who had the skin already? IDK it feels like theyre stuffing bundles with useless repeat items so we can get the one good item and its scummy to say the least.
It should cost 1600 imo - not a huge difference but still enough to make it feel premium. It looks amazing and Mark V is the goat.

The games free to play, this is what free to play does. Its cosmetic, nobody has to buy it, and its important to remember the vocal MINORITY is mad about it. They wouldn't be so expensive if people weren't buying. You can't equate it to map packs from 15 years ago, that was a different time and a completely different model. If it means the game stays free to play and we get more players because of that I'm fine with it. Its where the industry is now, and its very clear it makes money and its not going anywhere. If I'm getting good entertainment out of a game and I'm into it I don't mind buying a skin here and there every few months...
I kinda like that the kit forces people to actually use the classic Mark V. look. You should be able to use the helmet and shoulders on other cores but I see no need to customize the Mark V. kit itself, the whole point is to look like the CE Chief.

I paid $17.99(USD) for it, and while I do agree that it’s way more than it should be… it is still pretty awesome and I’m at least glad we finally have a good version of his original armor in game.
Honestly with all the updates and upgrades to Halo Infinite since launch I think 343 deserves this and I’m happy support them plus the armor kit looks amazing!
I just wish we could swap out the chest and shoulder pieces other than that it looks awesome!

Absolutely not. The game launched with a major lack of features and glaring bugs, some of which STILL aren't fixed 2 years after launch. This practice of "ship it and we will fix it later" should not be reqarded by buying a 25 dollar classic armor kit.

I’m actually gonna be buying it tomorrow, since that’s when I get paid. Despite the pricy store items as of lately, the Mark V Combat Evolved armor is one of my favorite armor sets in Halo. Period.
All other opinions aside: As long as people buy this kind of thing the more games will make them.
Definitely a bit expensive but it was around what I thought it would have been. Would have liked it to be cheaper but overall I'm happy its here but adding customization to kits would be awesome though I'd rather the kits like markv and vi be cores instead so we could get more out of them if 343 doesn't end up opening up customization to kits.

Literally the only thing that has and will ever get me to spend money on microtransactions are Halo CE items so I’m going to get it. Halo CE is my favorite Halo game.
In terms of design, the Mark V is absolutely beautifully made and Infinite's art style really adds to that nostalgic yet fresh and new feel. However, in terms of pricing, I'm on the side that says it's too expensive and should be lowered to something more reasonable for what is being offered. At this point, the term 'microtransaction' should just be scrapped entirely for any purchase over $1 or $5, as there's nothing 'micro' about forking out $20-$30 on a cosmetic, when you can spend far less money on other things like whole games or big DLCs and get way more value.
I also agree that more things should be earnable, rather than purchasable, as it encourages players to actually play the game more. It may even get players to actually spend more too as they'll be less likely to purchase something, use it for a few days, then move on because there's nothing else to gain. The progression system kinda helps for that, but considering how long it takes for a more casual player to get through it, it's easy to lose all interest in the game because it takes so long to get through while only getting any decent reward at the very end. An easy fix would simply be to add more things that can be unlocked at each level (or every few levels at the very least), specifically armor pieces or coatings, as icons simply are not good rewards, especially if you just get a brand new one every level.
In my old age I have about 5,674 things worth more of my $25 than an armor set. Can't believe they're charging this much for shop items.

CE Mark V is my favorite of all the games but I'm not paying $20 for something I could play as in MCC with mods. It does look FANTASTIC tho so props to the art team on that.

I aint paying 22 dollars for this crap. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, looks amazing, and is the BEST modern interpretation of the classic Mark V Alpha suit. But 22 dollars for a kit I can't customize and 2 shaders is a huge no no. I can get a whole game for a lot cheaper than that bundle. Saving my money on that one Chief. I'm perfectly happy with the Mark V Delta helmet or the Reach version of the Mark V from Season 1 (which is the only season I actually bought). The Combat Evolved suit should be an unlockable suit for beating the campaign on Legendary.
Yep, I bought it. Usually, I don't pay for cosmetics but, this is my favorite armor out of all the games, and for sure had to get it.
I feel like Master Chief armor cores and kits should PURELY be a reward for the ranks. Something to give to players to show their efforts in the game. Iconic armors should 100% be earnable and ONLY earnable. Like you said with the Mark VI it should feel like players worked for something.
Mint Blitz. Thank you for bringing up a Campaign reward for Legendary/LASO... I have been saying since launch and have been completely gutted that we received just the achievement. I do not have the time to hit max rank in MP, so getting campaign armor will never happen for me. I would legit playthrough Legendary/LASO AGAIN if it meant getting a rare in-game cosmetic.
Have been waiting to get it since it was announced, and rushed online Tuesday to see it in the store only to immediately change my mind when seeing the price and also that it was only for 4 items.
Ended up investing some time in customising my Spartan with items I've already unlocked.
I just love how everyone hated the price of the transgressor armor but now that it's everyone's favorite amor the price is justified 😂the irony you get four items for 20$ that's insane and their rarity system doesn't even make any sense what makes an armor coating epic anyways other than to just jack up the price
Hayabusa helmet/armor (plus Katana) for Legendary Campaign completion, Halo 3 Master Chief armor for LASO. I'd be happy with those rewards :)
with the amount of people that bought the armor, there's no way 343 is dialing back the prices for future sets
Yeah, I'd say the community kind of screwed the pooch here by showing Microsoft exactly how poor their impulse control is.
A cool reward for finishing LASO could be something like Emile's VISR from Reach, with a skull on it. That way you could use it with other helmets too.

I really wish it was more like $10-15 even though it is a super nice set. If the Halo Infinite armor had been $20 or so I would've snapped that up in a heartbeat. The old armors are great but there's something about the Chief's armor in Infinite that feels like the perfect blend between the old and the new.
I had some credits from the passes already so I spent the extra money and bought it. Worth it for me

Their recent comments on cross core making shop items more expensive should not apply to a kit you can’t even customize. I LOVE CE and the MK V armor but I’m not paying 22 bucks for a single kit and slightly touched up versions of cadet colors and another gold visor
Half of me wanted this armor kit because it looks gorgeous, if not the best looking Mark V armor, but other half of me said it’s expensive at $30 AUD, but I ended up buying it anyway

2:32 I agree that the bundles should properly reflect their content. The same armour coating shouldn't count as 8 items. Unfortunately it's one of their marketing tricks. Claiming there's 18 items in a bundle makes it seem like $20 is a fair price. In reality we all know it's actually $20 for 4 items, but they'd never show you that because it would be way harder for them to justify.
To put this in perspective, I bought Oblivion a while back on Steam for 1/5th of the price of this armour piece and have put over 200 hours of game time in it...
The pricing of in game cosmetics is never going to be a good value proposition
It really would be nice. If they added rewards for campaign, then I'd have real incentive to actually go back to it and finish it
The kit needed to have more for it to be worth its price imo. A Cortana or Guilty Spark AI would've been really cool. Maybe an emblem pack as well. An MA5B skin for the MA40 would've felt nice. Some Halo CE poses of chief like the cover art for end of matches would've been huge. But regardless, they need to change how the shop works. They could take some tricks out of Bungie's book from back in the day and present. Hear me out.
There could be two ways to get the Mark 5 - either earn it or buy it. Instead of just making credits earnable in Infinite (which will likely never happen anyways), create a cross-game achievement list that links to your microsoft/xbox account. Back in Reach, there were a few helmets you could only get through ODST and H3 achievements. Imagine if you had to get a set amount of Halo CE achievements and Halo Infinite achievements to unlock the Mark 5. Now it'd be giving more engagement with the MCC, more engagement with Infinite's campaign, players would feel like spending $20 and some time on CE would be worth more than just spending $20 on an armor pack in the shop, and it'd give a greater sense of achievement to the armor kit.
As a diehard Halo fan, this season I’ve bought every* item in the shop (minus the standalone Jorge flood armor) unlike in previous seasons where I bought nothing. I would love if they lowered the prices, but TBH most of the people buying the MK5 are veterans who know of CE’s greatness and would spend the $ to recreate that experience. ESPECIALLY with how good the armor looks, with it spitting in anniversary’s face. I do wish more items were unlockables, especially from the Campaign since I feel I wasted $60 for a mediocre Halo campaign with nothing else, but this is definitely a step in the right direction!
Back in my day this shit was free and some you HAD TO GRIND. Miss when you see someone with Hayabusa with the katana, you knew someone grinded out ALL HALO 3 SKULLS, when saw RECON, YOU KNEW THEY DID THE HARDEST ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE ENTIRETY OF ALL GAMES NOT JUST HALO. You knew they were hardcore, now you see these armors or skins in any game, it's oh, that guy used his mom's credit card to buy that.

It's ($22 USD or) 2,200 Cr. And I remember buying the first Halo 2 Map Pack from Best Buy for $20.
I did purchase the armor pack, I've put in maybe 3 hours of play since the middle of Season 2 to now. I bought the armor pack and the new Battle Pass because now seems like a great time to get back into Halo Infinite. And I can use the earned BP currency to go back and purchase the older battle passes.
