  • How to insulate your van: it's a controversial topic in the vanlife world. Despite the many spray foam disaster stories, we decided to take the risk and go with it.
We plan to take our van on a journey through many different climates and weather conditions, so having a nice temperature in our home on wheels at all times was on of our top priorities in building this van.
Last Fall we did the main part of the insulation, but now we've come a bit further in the conversion process, it was time for the finishing touches like the ceiling, sliding door, little holes and smaller areas we forgot ot had to leave open for cables.
Without spoiling everything, we can already say it went way less smooth as last time...
Check out our previous video's about how we insulated the van with spray foam: • DIY VAN INSULATION | H... (part I) & • DIY VAN INSULATION | F... (part III)
So this one's defintely a must watch if you're considering this type of insulation yourself for your camper van, or if you just wanna have a laugh with our Stef's dance moves.

I stripped my SUV down to metal...Rubberized spray (1/2') This was for the radiation transfer of heat threw the metal from the outside inwards...But also the transfer of the curing process of the Closed cell foam And warpage of the panels The Spray foam was for sealing And rate of temperature transfer rate threw the foam So i have 2-1/2' on the roof And 2' other. foam is BASF pro installed However i do have open cavities to allow moisture drainage Done propertly This keeps the moisture from sitting and rotting key points of the SUV Letting air in a "outter layer" of metal After the installer sprayed 1 panel i would follow with a waxed piece of cardboard...No trimming foam afterwards .........

Tell me, did this cause any warping on the van panels? Some are saying warping is visible from the outside.

I'm currently ripping expanding foam from a van I just bought. I need to get to the wires. The amount of water the expanding foam is holding is ridiculous.

Can you tell me more about holding water, as I'm looking into using spray foam and trying to find as much info on pros and cons

    • @stefandbo

It important to buy spray foam that has the characteristics of closed cell foam this is far more beter than open cell foam, open cell foam will hold much water
(compare it to a sponge - if you look very closely, the sponge has lots of holes, which makes it much more possible to hold water because of the open cell structure,
if you would’ve find a sponge with a close cell foam then the cell structure should be much more denser and it would hold way less or not even water. 🥸😇

4:17 .. I would have stopped after 30 minutes .. and bought either cans of spray foam, or that adhesive back black foam and finished it in a couple hours.

Thank you for the video. I wonder if you experienced any wobbling in the outside of the van due to the foam exothermic reaction or some other deformation?
Would you use foam insulation again?
Many thanks and keep up, you re doing very well.

Just a tiny bit but it's barely noticeable! We're very happy with the result, even though it was expensive and a pain to do it 😂 We'd definitely do it again. We feel like it's the best kind of insulation you can get for a van.

      Ever done construction work?
Ever been in buildings with spray foam thats a couple of years old?
Ever seen sprayfoam in humid areas after some years..?
I would never ever use spray foam inside a vehicle that is made out of steel.
Seen some van builds from 2020 that used sprayfoam and already you can see bubbles where the supports are on the inside.
