- Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has called for a referendum on the UK’s continued membership of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
The Clacton MP told the Commons: “We will not stop the boats, even if we send a handful to Rwanda, we will not stop the boats by attempting to smash the criminal gangs.
“We will only stop this if we start deporting people that come illegally, then they won’t pay the smugglers. But we’ll only do that by leaving the ECHR.”
Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan is joined by International Editor Isabel Oakeshott, who claims today’s politicians “just don’t get” the public’s fury on illegal immigration.

Gov't need to get proper detention centres set up and deportations fast tracked from them, to hell with what the do-gooders say. If they've destroyed their passports they should be kept in detention centres until they tell officials where they are from along with all their details, then a return to that country should follow. Objectively, the actual role of (any) government is: Protect the natural rights of the individual (e.g. life, liberty, property, the pursuit of happiness, and the countless other rights implied by these). By your standard, the government could "serve and protect" you by strapping you to a bed, in a padded cell, in a straightjacket, fed by intravenous tube for the rest of your life, on their basis that if you were free you might hurt yourself or be hurt by others. There you go, the government is serving and protecting you... by imposing absolute tyranny over you. You have to be VERY careful not to grant government powers it shouldn't have.

@@JoyMartin-rk4pm We had treaties before Brexit. In 2018 there were 300 migrants arrived by small boat. In 2022 40,000 migrants arrived by small boat. Those treaties were working. We chose to break away from those treaties to be free of regulation so have to take the consequences of that.

@@markpalmer8083 There were fewer votes for Labour, in 2024, than in previous elections. It's just that they got more seats in parliament this time around. So it's not like Labour are hugely popular all of a sudden. It's simply that their primary rival (The Tories) imploded.

The female Members of Parliament should go to places like Haverhill or Rochdale and get out of their cars and walk around. They should look at who is passing by, how people on the pavement relate to each other, what local shops are like. Plus, it will show up how the English people have been moved out by the increase in migrant settlements.

We have to do what Australia did and make it clear that anyone illegally coming to the country in small boats automatically gets refused entry. We can't do that in the ECHR but it is the only way to stop this.
Why don't we just ignore ECHR rulings? That's what we did when the ECGR said we had to allow prisoners the vote and it is what other nations, especially France, do all the time.
It's time that all these abstract groups were identified. The ECHR is made up of a group of people and we should know their names. Why be afraid of them? What can they do? The same for the WEF and Klaus Schwab, they are only people, not unstoppable avalanches or typhoons.
