I learned a longtime ago that parents can only give what they got. We have to push to be better and give our children better.
True.
True but witnessing such abuse constantly is different. Some people develop the same patterns. Some people can't develop healthy relationships or trust because of it. Ive seen both personally and its easier looking in then actually living through it
So true, I'm struggling with that reality now with my 17 year old daughter. It's sad but I'm trying to give her more but it's pouring from something I wanted or thought I had but its not what actually have.
@@saddasweetbyers-smith7796 that's very interesting hearing it from a parent's perspective
I teach my children the Ten Commandments, so they can make better decisions. Matthew 19:18
I wish him peace, unconditional love, and healing.
I don't like to see Will hurting ...it's just something about him that is so "good and kind" forget the money, the fame, I think he's just good people. Wish the best for him.❤️
Me too ❤💔❤
Will Smith killed Tupac and got away with it for 25yrs!😆
The movie w Jaden while they played a homeless father and son; was absolutely heart wrenching and uplifting at the same time.
@@googlebanmetoomuch2601 suge knight killed Tupac and Diddy did in biggie
He'll be fine.
Un-healed and unresolved childhood trauma is at the root of 99% of everything we struggle with as adults. I wish him peace, unconditional love, and healing.
True!!
I think think jada is his trauma he met her as an adult
@@kingjudah2642 No. He couldn’t have accepted how she’s treated him without being traumatized or showing up/presenting as a traumatized child.
@@awalebebinu maybe he believed in the lie of love and the institution of marriage maybe he believed the lie that women want good men and not bad boys...maybe he believed that a blk woman would respect an intelligent successful responsible blk man...will fell for the lies of society his trauma started the day he realized it was all a lie.
@@kingjudah2642 sounds like a lot of projecting. Also, I hope you’re not looking at their relationship as an example of what to expect in the real world or in your own life. If so it might do you some good to cut the cord and disconnect for like a year or 2… or longer.
You can tell he fighting a lot of demons from his past can y’all see the pain an trama in his eyes an behind that laugh much love an peace Will ❤️❤️
People think he's hurting because of Jada, I honestly believe he been over her for years now. The man travels the globe living his best life. His only issue is that Jada can't keep her stuff private just like Will does. Pretty sure he has his side piece but he don't talk about it nor do the women he messes with.
@@KNByam your absolutely right. Jada can’t shut her mouth about their private life
Will smith is handsome rich famous and really nice guy but that wasn’t enough for jada. It makes me wonder What chance does the average man has with modern woman.?
His issues are with his terrible wife
Yes.
@@kingjudah2642 right. This crap didn't come up until she disclosed her infedilities and insecurities on the red table talk. Alot of things should be kept within the marriage.
Something about this man puts me at ease. He is such a kindred spirit.
agreed
He creates sensationalism for publicity. Nothing tangible. I teach my children the Ten Commandments so they can make better decisions.
LIBRA
this did not age well 😬
@Caramel ik just merely stating that
I absolutely love Will Smith... not just "the actor", but the human being that he is. I'm not surprised at all that HE would be the one to come out and say... the public 'me' is not the whole 'me'.
Love Will Smith to, what a wonderful loving person, actor, father, son 💕 I love his voice to. Wish him and his family the very best, from Germany 🙏🇩🇪🎉
"That space where who you are is good enough. You don't have to be something different than you to be deservant of being loved" this is exactly the space I'm fighting to be in. Thank you Will!
"Will Smith is great, but I'm ready to be me". I felt that! How many people are being a character in their own life? It serves a purpose & can be enjoyable to a point or a burden if you don't leave room to be yourself. Being your true self can become a burden for others because they can't handle it & don't want to adjust. People who don't truly care for you want you to remain ONLY the character because it's easier for THEM.
Exactly, they are the ones who are only your friend when it’s fun. But don’t have a problem.
Now at 40 and totally done with just surviving, I totally understand!!!!
"I'm ready to be me." Totally understand. This is a great mind opening interview. Thank you!
My aunt worked with Will a few times as an extra. She said he is such an amazing person, kind to everyone and interacts with everyone. She said if he had shrimp and lobster during breaks and meal times, everybody had it. Very generous. Sure, he can afford it, but many celebs are actually pretty stingy with their money. He also kept a promise to his grandmother that his music would never be graphic and contain poor language. This is a solid guy, a stand up man and has features about him that we should should all strive to have.
I can second this. While he was filming in NY, he stayed in my apartment building in NJ. He went to the gym twice a day and spoke to everyone. I even got a picture with him. He is so personable that he even yelled my name out when I went to the gym in the evening as I was surprised he even remembered it. We had tons of celebrities and athletes stay in my building but none was as friendly and engaging as Will. He’s one kind for sure.
@@traderhines76 how long ago was this?
@@startracker5895 This was in 2016. I think he was filming Collateral Beauty.
I take it all with a grain of salt, just be yourself and love your own features instead of someone else.
That’s why his wife doesn’t respect him
I UNDERSTAND. Same thing here. My Dad was my hero too, despite how he treated my Mom. The confusion arises when you are older and realize how wrong it was-the trauma arises when you feel like you were PART of the abuse because it happened in front of you. I’m sure Will Smith and I are not the only ones that have had to deal with it.
"Will Smith is great but I'm ready to be me." I love that line.
forgiveness is one of the keys to living a healthy free life
He is the best! he bring joy even if he telling something sad.
He’s fake
Who’s watching this after the Oscars Incident
It’s easy to judge others from behind a phone, but hard to put yourself and your faults out there for everyone to see. I think in this day and age, transparency is refreshing because life is better when it’s lived authentically. Since most people are used to seeing perfection everywhere, when someone shows their failures, it’s uncomfortable to people. I’m glad Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are keeping it real and showing people that life is not always going to be perfect. You’re going to have ups and downs but the most important thing is to focus on the good.🚀
So on point with my same perspective.
Any healthy person knows everyone has strengths and weaknesses, things they are unconscious of and things they are working to improve. Only unhealthy people (narcissists) project an image of perfection for the world and expect others to be perfected without flaws (not talking about the abuse which is more than a flaw). Self revelation regarding ‘authenticity’ in a public forum is just a pr exercise. People who are living authentically don’t need to make money off how ‘authentic’ they are nor do they stand on a soapbox to preach and look for self congratulations about how authentic they are. wow, you have really been punked on this.
Love Will
I understand. My parents did not fight, but they were so different. The dichotomy of their love made me very suspicious and sensitive to other people. I was never 100% secure in my mom's love ever.
@@Rubylove48 true, but everyone is different. God created me to be the irony the world needs so everytime someone tries to speak on gods creation I could be the person to come out and be like you’re wrong, stop judging … have a great day, I don’t judge I find solutions .
I appreciate his honesty. This is what true maturity looks like. Great job young man.
The way she looks at Will, after he describes being a young child and not being able to help his mother from his father broke my heart. Hoda and Will my 2 favorite people, I need more, like hours more!
That’s life. People aren’t usually good or bad. They’re complicated.
Dichotomy….one of my favorite words because it reflects that humans especially our parents are fallible
that makes zero sense.
“He who is without sin cast the first stone” meaning instead of judging, how about praying for Will as well as Chris. Will is human just like us; let’s give him the same Grace and Mercy that we would all want if we were faced with this situation and the Grace and Mercy that God has already given him🙏🏽 Blessings to both Will and Chris…
I'm reading the book right now and I'm having the same reactions as Hoda, The authenticity that Will is allowing himself to reveal is very healing for the reader as well. Thank goodness, the book is also funny - something to counter some of the deeply emotional and painful moments. If you enjoy memoirs, please pick up a copy, it will not disappoint.
Im excited to get the book. Does he talk about Jadas affair?
@@ItsBrittany. Lol, I haven't gotten that far yet. I'm on Chapter 6, he has revealed all his early family trauma and has just met DJ Jazzy Jeff.
MusicLover...what's the cost please?
Im reading it now as well. He's a good man!
@@marilynreese7903 Hope you are enjoying it. I'm on Chapter 11, he and Jeff on are now the 'Fresh Prince'. Will is crazy!!
She is such a genuine host and interviewer. She came into that sitdown ready to feel all of the emotions that wanted to enter into the room. Very lovely segment.
Yes❤️
Thank you will for being vulnerable and sharing this with us. My dad was also abusive and Im actively slowly building a closer relationship with both my parents.
Abuse is never the fault of the child. My heart breaks right out of the gate knowing this wonderful man holds shame that does not belong to him!
Wow, what a great therapy session... Hoda got more of the interview than she anticipated. Wow... that was some real talk that seldom happens in real life.
I always say, "People don't see you the same way you see yourself and vice-versa."
I love Hoda!! Her smile is electric
I find her very attractive.
It must crush his mother to hear how he feels about his father! Wow!
I truly commend Will and have gained an even more better respect for him. I love how vulnerable and raw he is with his book, interviews and so much more. He really has endured a lot and has accomplished so much more. This has really changed my life and has given me a deeper sense of self. I love Will for this. Hopefully one day he runs across this comment. Thank you for changing my life.
Love him so much, it’s okay not to be perfect!
Will is so transparent and really put himself out there and that in and of itself is brave.
On love: “To get into that space where you are is good enough, that you don’t have to be something different than you, to be deserving of being loved.”
On parenting: “It’s my job to nurture and water them into becoming what they already are to grow into what they are versus being an image of something that I need for me to feel good about my parenting.”
Both thoughts are something we already know as lovers and parents, but Will Smith has the most beautliful way of putting it. ❤️
These autobiographical interviews with Will Smith all make me cry he is such a necessary role model.
The right word, "necessary"....men really need to heal
I love Will Smith and his family! One of the best actors ever. Thanks for being so candid. Great interview.
I'm loving Will unveiling himself. So much honesty & love. He just helped me to understand my brother my husband a little more.
Love. Love, love Will Smith. He has such a wisdom and maturity beyond his years!!!
Venting is the target when maintaining uncertainty however one does need this voice in order to heal. Will Smith is now healing from compromise and settling for things in his life. This is the making of a greater and more superior man!
Thank you will for helping others like me , with your honesty
Got the book! And can’t wait to dive in ❤️
Need to get this book!!! Love him!! ♥️🙏🏼
I had similar experiences, probably many did. He has my respect for putting it out there.
Awesome transparency from Will Smith & Excellent interview skills by Hoda Kotb allows him to be open. Excellent Excellent Excellent interview 🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁👍🏽
Just bought the book and look forward to reading it. I've listened to many interviews Will has done. If anyone is down, and want to feel motivated, you'd do no better than to listen to Will Smith. He has a track record of success, is humble, and keeps his advice so simple.
A nice interview... I liked the behind-the-scenes shots of the monitor and the honesty they both shared. I plan to watch the full interview later today and will check at the local library for this new book by by Will Smith.
Always knew Will was fearfully and wonderfully made. GOD IS ALL IN THIS MAN. Those people who have gone through WILL get through
So refreshing to see and hear Will Smith move in his truth. He's tired of living behind the veil.
He's an actor, supposed to play various characters.
Will Will Will!!!! It wasn't your job to protect her! Thanks for speaking on this. Very relatable. Love you! 💜💜💜
Me & my boyfriend watched "King Richard" last month & we both liked it.
Oceans of blessings y'all. I got the audiobook. I lost my mom to domestic violence. This book was helpful. Thanks
Nice to see Will opening up. One of my favorites
I love you Will for you just being the beautiful not perfect self you are!!! I am so grateful to have been around in this era to be able to appreciate you and your family and your gifts you all share with the world!!! Thank you to you and your family for sharing your lives with us!!!! 💜💜💜
Will ....you are carrying so much hurt and sadness still. I hope you find peace soon . You are a wonderful person ❤
Great interview. Will smith is a strong and brave.
Whew!! i loved how he describes Jada--he sees his logical, geek wife recognizing the inadequacies and inauthenticities in some traditions AND sees her deeply valuing agency and devotion cool
I'm so sorry to Will. I hate this hurt he endures... May God bless him with the healing he deserves
BOOM! Some deep, soul searching, emotional maturity right there! Let's just all be human shall we? Thanks for your honesty and courageous! Love💗Peace to the Smith family.
This is a fantastic interview and also very surprising to hear Will talk about his childhood and I just loved what Hoda said at the very end. Will is one of my most favorite actors! I mean he has just never made an "ok" movie at least as far as I am concerned.
Will Smith, you're an "AWESOME" person, and has grown to be an "AMAZING" man! My hat goes off to him. Most families have these same skeletons in our closets.
Hoda is so encouraging
A few of my favorite Will movies: I Am Legend, Hancock, I Robot.
I love hancock.
I respect his honesty because everybody is human at the end of the day we all have a little coward inside of us no one is heartless
Wise words ❤️ I just got the Audible version of “Will”, can’t wait to dive in!
Just WOW! That was short and very intense. Packed a punch, deep down.
We understand Will...and I love you
The best Will Smith interview ever
I 😘 ve his work, acting...this saddens me...I wish him nothing but happiness & the best ..
:The best friend I have ever had without question" (relationship goals 100 %)
This is beautiful
Just finished his audio book. Really good stuff. Interesting to find out he'd been to 14 ayuwaska ceremonies
can’t wait to see the movie!!!!
Beautiful interview with Will Smith ☺️
This all makes sense, especially after seeing the Today show interview. I worked with you (Will) for 'The Jump' and meeting you was like meeting every role you'd ever played, in one person, something I even mentioned to my father whose a big fan of the characters you play... makes sense because I was meeting "Will Smith" not YOU. Really great stuff I cannot wait to read the book.
Can not wait to read it!
Excellent tell. 🔥🔥🔥
I have always loved Will Smith salute to you you were always a very positive good natured type of guy in my book much love
You can be beautiful by just being thoughtful....Love him
So u love
Me too ???
No matter what Will says, he laughs. Peculiar.
He's a happy positive person. That's why. He always tried to look at the bright side.e
I think he uses laughter to hide the pain.
I stood in between my parents when my dad was beating her and it still to this day feels like I never did enough to help..
I feel so bad for Will. I have not felt judgemental even once since him and his wife have been revealing so much about themsleves and marriage. Please stop projecting on celebrities. They are humans like you.
Exactly!
I'm off to buy this book. Will Smath has always been a favorite ...human of mine. I am eager to read what makes this guy tick.
Will is definitely helping me out with this book/his thoughts right now!!!!
Will in the Oscars demonstrated how the physical violence he experienced as a child shows up in his life today. Very sad that he has not been able to rise above it.
Yep he hit Chris brown and they didn’t do anything … ? Hmmm weird how life can repeat itself . I like will but I didn’t like what he did either
Awesome job
Will is such a great guy!
Bless you dearest Will. 🙏
You were sayin?
I like the hugs
Wow.. Only in for 2 1/2 minutes and I am ready to purchase his book. Sounds like he dug deep.
Heavy stuff, Man, deep Will - had Hoda teary and breathless. 🤔
Love this 💕
Thank you Will. This is cathartic. Hoda! #2thumbsup 👏👏👀👀

But even if you are you. You are terrific, Will. Thank you for sharing your story.
I love the book ! It is therapeutic journey🤗
