- Toyota has joined Ford, RAM and Chevy by officially converting big US pick-up trucks in Australia… but does the new Tundra square up? 👉 Full Review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial...
The 2024 Toyota Tundra will soon be rolling into Toyota Australia dealerships backed by a factory warranty, giving the likes of the Ford F-150, RAM 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado something to think about - especially considering Toyota’s reputation for building rock-solid and reliable commercial vehicles.
Built in Texas then shipped to Australia and converted to right-hand drive by Walkinshaw Automotive, the first officially-sanctioned Tundra pick-up will be available from early 2025.
Before then, the Toyota Tundra is currently undergoing a 12-month trial-by-fire at the hands of would-be customers, with a fleet of 300 pick-up trucks being driven right across the continent of Australia.
We scored an early drive of what are said to be production-ready vehicles - see what senior editor Feann Torr thought in the video.

I SAW ONE IN SYDNET TODAY . LOOKS GEAT ALRAEDY ON THE ROAD IN HERE
Yes, there are 300 vehicles already getting around in Australia, as part of a year long test.
Love to see it!
Toyota are there own worse enemy
They would sell boat loads , it looks such an amazing vehicle
Lol these prices. Mean while the rest of the country struggle to even feed themselfs and house themselfs.
Prices will not matter, the high- low wage gap in Australia is growing further apart every year.
Those that can afford it will simply buy it because they just want one and can afford it..
Toyota are not stupid they've done their research, if people will pay in the high 90' k for an over priced new 79 series cruiser (which hasn't changed much in the last 25 years)and then spend another 20-30k to make it half decent, this is a no brainer for Toyota to fleece some more easy coin from cashed up Aussies.
100%
themselves
If they release it in Australia I wonder if they will release it in other countries like South Africa for example
Rather have the TACOMA TRD PRO here. More useful with it's design
That is a cool car, for sure. Petrol powered.
I swear to god all these reviews are taken on the black stuff, chuck some 37s on it and than get it towing through the soft stuff on a sandy beach. thats what we really want to know
Thanks for the feedback, we'll see what we can do. Any channels you suggest checking out for inspo?
@@carsales stop towing empty trailers for a start.
They have a 3.4 ltr V6 (3 445 cc). It is commonly known as a 3.4.
It's 5 cubic centimetres away from being a 3.5. Toyota calls it a 3.5? Not sure.
Great news. _ be good to see if it can be optioned back up to tow 5.5 tonnes ( even with a truck licence required ) - its just what I need for towing my boat as the current range of 4.5 T listed vehicles don't cut the insurance mustard.
It certainly could be upped, but Toyota is unlikely to do it through official channels.
I prefer my RAM but the Tundra is a great truck and should sell well
In the tow test, was the trailer loaded, it didnt look to be? Will it be available in a V8 diesel?
Yes, the trailer was loaded with flat square metal sheets. Hard to see in the vid but definitely was very heavy.
The 1/2 tons are too small for diesels to be all that viable under EPA regulations. Vehicles over 8,500 lb GVM/GVWR is where 99% of US diesel sales occur.
typical, the knob is all the way to the left... you'll need to get your passenger to turn it
Conversions eh?
Where do i find a parking spot in town to park one of these big clumsy things 😠
In a country town. Probably not going to be a big seller in the inner city. I can see it being popular with people who own big boats and / or caravans. I agree it won’t be a good city commuter. If a person can afford one of these, I am sure they can afford a smaller commuter car as well.
Clumsy???? Drive one & find out.
@@nigelupton9030 Never, hideous big things, arn't we suppose to be saving our planet 🥺
@@robalexander7348 Oh by all driving EV's you mean? Or should we all be in a Yaris? Let's all save the planet by mining lithium and cobalt in slave mines where children die every other week so loud mouth virtue signalling pink haired leftists/greenies who mostly live in inner city enclaves enjoying every facet of modern life can pretend they're "saving the planet while they tell everyone else how they should be living.. Live your life mate and let others live theirs. People have horse floats and boats not to mention businesses where they need vehicles to tow shit. Who knows this type of truck might enable a family to have one car for everything, family and business, instead of a truck and family vehicle.
Big boomer car! 140 k good gravy.
The payload is too small.
Too expensive and too low to the ground.
This model is the on-road version. For towing mainly. Even one of the Toyota engineers told our journalist that these models are useless off-road.
So how’s this thing going to comply with Albo’s 6D Euro emissions laws snuck in 3 days before Xmas coming into effect by December 2025?
No problem, it's not die diesel
Easily because it doesn't apply to existing vehicles until 2028.
It will still likely have a low payload.
This is true - it's all spelled out in Feann's written review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/toyota-tundra-2024-review-144146/
780kg of payload makes it a looser in this class. 350 kg of ball weight two portly pensioners and you are overloaded.
It's the same as the f150.
@@HardstylePete Yeah they're all pretty similar in terms of GVM, GCM.
I think toyota will charge 160k+, over priced like every other toyota product. The interior is inferior to ram and silverado in my opinion. I just tested them 2 American truck to put in an order, Havent sat in the ford yet. But hell the v8s sounds awesome. Fuel isnt a problem if you can afford 150k truck so i dont know why they even made these in hybrid.
Hotest ticket in town dont think so
Well, it's very hot, requires a ticket and is sort of in town. But in all seriousness, this is a turn of phrase and it's opinion based, like any car review. In your view, what's the hottest ticket in your town?
Toyota manufacturers needs to place much more greater horsepower and torques in all their vehicles- the tundra vehicles 4x4- models needs lock differential - transmission manual transmission and automatic transmission- v8 4.5 diesel engines improve horsepower- ..
This is intended primarily for the North American market. That means that the chance of getting a diesel is about zero. It isn't big enough to qualify for the more relaxed EPA diesel regulations.
Empty 3.5t Trailer
In correct. Filled with metal sheets.
Gave the review a nil rating, its a Ute not PICK UP, it's a Tub not bed, the Americans, Japanese may call it a Pick Up but your in Australia talk like an Australian
Once it's this big and tall it's no longer a ute. A real ute is a Commodore/Falcon Ute, a sedan car with a bed. We call the likes of Hilux/Ranger/GWM Ute utes but that is the limit imo. This is a truck.
Was it a BARN find😂
@jay-uo2bi
Technically probably right, I'm a traditionalist and like to stick to Ute.
@@allanmill2579
Is that where you spend your time😁
@@Dennis-zr3fba Ute is a sedan car body with a truck bed in the back, that style of vehicle body have slowly disappeared from the global auto industry. So what you call an now is not the same car body design as your original Ute.
Why dont they Bring the Toyota Tacoma not this monstrosity.
Tacoma looks heeps better
Agreed but its the same size as HiLux, so it wouldn't sell well in Australia - or if it did, it would cannabilise HiLux ute sales.
