Love the truck, the most disappointing part about it is they start at $48,500 (USD converted to AUD) in the U.S but some how here they are over triple the price....... Import taxes should be gone now that Australia does not produce any vehicles...... Why do we have such a huge price tag here for this vehicle?
You need to look at the spec. The price for the one you are quoting is likely a 4x2, petrol single cab in a low trim, and the prices quoted on US sites typically don't include on road costs. This one here has a Cummins, 4x4, Crew Cab and is in Laramie trim (and possibly has options), that will cost over USD$70k on the road in the US (about $100k AUD). This is before you get into costs associated with shipping (not much), conversion (a lot) and compliance (also quite a bit). I've imported and converted my own car to RHD. Given the significant work involved in a conversion with modern vehicles, and all the paperwork involved - I don't think the price is that unreasonable, even if it might appears so on the surface. Particularly when you look at the price of comparative vehicles (300 Landcruiser, which is a much smaller vehicle, typically specs out less etc.)

The European Court of Justice ruled that EU member states can't force people to convert their car. Having the steering wheel on the wrong side makes it hard or impossible in certain situations like parking garages but I doubt there's any parking garage in Australia that can fit the RAM 2500. Also I absolutely hate drive-throughs so for me that's a non issue. Sure it makes it even harder to drive this gigantic vehicle but that's something you got into by buying one. At least you save a lot of money.

Tourists etc. that wish to ship a vehicle here can bring in LHD vehicle (but needs to be sent home), or if it's one not for road purposes, or needs to be older than 25yrs old on entry. Agree on the inconvenience of having the steering wheel on the wrong side.

The 2500 RAM is worth 40,000 in America…so when it gets here with the exchange rate it cost 60,000.. which means Australian people don’t have to pay luxury tax on this vehicle because the luxury tax is incurred on cars 65,000 and over but the government adds the cost of the conversion onto this vehicle, the conversion that is done here by HSV which cost 45,000, making the total price of the truck go up to 105,000!! That’s why Australians pay luxury tax…not because it comes into the country over the luxury tax threshold but because HSV/WALKINSHAW convert it HERE adding 45,000 more onto the price!!! Which means at 105,000 the truck plus luxury tax cost 130,000!!! But the final price goes up to 185,000! Which means it costs another 55,000 to ship it and dealer costs and registration fees and stamp duty!!!! So that’s why this truck costs so much here!!!! Our government should have paid RAM to research and develop a RHD truck for us from factory and should have been honest for the price on these trucks that way we would have only needed to pay 95,000 au for this truck!!!!!

That's beatable. They are definitely seen as family multi use vehicles and ones with higher equipped interiors can push $90,000 In the U.S. getting close to luxury. High end Leather uplostrie heated and cooled seats high end infotainment systems and electronic safety equipment can all be had

If you are going gooseneck towing with a diesel I would go with a 3500 SRW. The 2500s are light on payload once you add the diesel and the gooseneck is going to put some load in your bed. I believe that there is a place in the UK that is doing RHD conversions on Rams. but not sure if they do the 3/4 or 1 ton versions. Could be only half tons.
Not really. Its because from factory they are LHD. They are then purchased by aussie companies that have to spend big dollars to convert them to RHD. Pretty simple.
The $160k aud would be about $108k usd. The Ford F450 King Ranch that I have an order in for is $93k usd + taxes and fees. Trim levels have a much larger impact with HDs than the GVWR.
Ram 2500/3500, GMC & Chevrolet 2500/3500, Ford F250, 350 and up all require ADBLUE additive. Why, when doing reviews is not the usage and cost mentioned? Diesel outside capital cities is around $2 plus a litre and adblue around $1.50 a litre. Expensive exercise if adblue is on a 1 to 1 ratio. Most small 'australian' Ute's don't use adblue so I think, potent users don't even think of it. Unless you're towing a bloody big van maybe the petrol variants would be a better investment. Considering they still have a 4.5 tonne (70mm ball) capacity.

I don't see the 6.6/6.7 L diesels going anywhere for quite a long time in the US. There just isn't anything that compares when dealing with heavy loads. Ford's 7.3L Godzilla gasoline engine has been a popular choice in the Super Duty trucks and Ram has a 6.4L that I see quite a few of. With the cost of conversion though, they probably aren't looking to invest the same amount in a less expensive truck as it will be harder to recoup (I don't see any Tradesman trim level trucks in Aus reviews). Diesel near me (Maryland) is $4.09 USD a gallon ($1.60 AUD per liter) which is up about $1.30 a gallon over what it was when Biden took office. My last truck was a 2011 and didn't take DEF, so I had to look up the price. Apparently it is $11 for 2.5 gallons ($1.72 AUD per liter)
You’ll find these big American vehicles will increase in popularity for example caravans are getting a lot heavier causing dramas for our current car park of vehicles, unless you do a GVM upgrade to say your land cruiser you will most likely be over the legal limit when towing. The advantage of owning one of these vehicles is that they are out of the box ready, no need for upgrades etc..

Winter travel really means salt bath anywhere north or west of us. We were in NE Kansas for most of the time that I owned my last truck. It's bad, but nowhere near as bad as when we lived in Ontario Canada. I had a Ford that had all the aluminum parts corroding after about 3 years (Bought it new as a 2000 model year and traded it for a 2003.5 model year Ram 1500).
The biggest disappointment is the payload. I believe you said 835kg. Thats appalling for a truck this size. The only reason to buy it is payload and towing capacity. No better than a twin cab ute
@@justanotheraviator2357 the listed payload for the Laramie badge in the US is 2430 lbs (all that chrome and leather is heavy) If it was really a concern for someone buying one of these a light rigid licence might allow the payload to increase to 1100kg as the payload listed in this video is to satisfy the maximum 4500kg gvm required for a car licence. Though some bofin in the gov't would probably make you do an engineering certificate.

You can’t tow a heavy caravan if it weighs as much as your tow vehicle! The new ford ranger is rated to tow up to 3500kg, yet the ranger weighs 2230 kg. This means your trailer can push you off the road if you need to turn sharply to avoid a collision!!! The safe towing weight behind a ranger, hilux, Nissan, bt50 is 1500kg!!! This ram 2500 would tow a 3500kg caravan like driving on a cloud!!! It’s safe!!!! Yes it is overpriced and the government will drop the luxury tax if we make enough noise and get one of these big trucks to be made factory RHD ! That should cut at least 65,000 off the Australian price!!!!

@@Mick_4591 Both are good vehicles. With the diesel I would step up to a F350 or 3500 at least. Those 6.7s are quite heavy.
