Emile talks about Pikachu damaging Donphan, imagine how much he raged when Pikachu was able to damage Onix with the sprinklers, or just straight up take out Rhydon by shocking it on the horn.

At least the sprinklers made sense, since Onix is quad-weak to Water.
Or Bulbasaur using Whirlwind. Or Pikachu and Swellow having "Thunder Armor".

So, if you were a kid, you weren't beating this game. Not only because I doubt you could get your parents to give you $20 for one arcade game, but you also wouldn't because you will have likely died at least twice as much. Honestly, the final ranking makes perfect sense: Jon is the best player out of all 3 and Emile grew up on 3D games, so he was the least talented at the 2D game (plus I remember Tim saying at one point that he's not good with analog sticks, or something like that)
EDIT: And if you think I'm gonna count the number of enemies Emile killed in the stage that he didn't continue on: No.

I wouldn't mind if ya'll played the modern one! Honestly, anything you guys play is just fun to watch. Also this was my first Battletoads experience, so seeing more would be neat.
Emile, to be fair, ADULTS find it infuriating that Pikachu can hurt Ground Types when the story demands it. And not necessarily the childish ones.
I find it funny that the game gives Rhydon the Lightning Rod ability that basically craps on "PIKACHU! THE HORN!!!!" because it's a defensive maneuver rather than an exploitable weakness.
Lightning Rod double neuters Pikachu and I just laugh. If for some cheaply-written reason it could hurt Rhydon through its typing, then the ability negates any damage _and_ boosts Rhydon.

It’s funny you mention that, I have to wonder whatever dev was in charge of assigning abilities gave rhyhorn lightning Rod BECAUSE of that scene to be like “Please don’t do that again.”

I remember when PJ DiCesare played Battletoads Arcade at one of the GDQ events, he mentioned the final boss "is just invincible for the first few minutes of the fight. And the reason is to make the boss appear more powerful, so we're just going to wait it out."

Tried to calculate Emile's score to the best of my ability
59 (From before the stage where he lost it) + 175 (after the stage) + 27 (85 total kills from another 3 player playthrough of the stage I found - 61 for Tim's and Jon's kills) = 261 kills
God help you in Act 3 of modern Battletoads, hahaha. That is if you decide to do it. I was feeling the game for most of the rest of it. The soundtrack rules.

I like how in this game when you shoot Robo Manus, it's the sound of bouncing a dodgeball.
I have only played through this a couple of times and that was quite a few years ago, so I forgot the game was this short. It was fun while it lasted.
I think in Rare Replay, the dev interviews mention that you can't actually damage Robomanus for the first whole minute after the fight begins despite appearing to be damaged. They were determined to get the money from arcaders.
The game originally was meant to be longer, but due to time restraints 2 stages were cut from the game.
good to see this channel is still posting back from when I watched it back in 2011 and to see the person who inspired me to do UA-cam back then Chuggaaconroy still doing well and playing games!

2:37 Thinking about it, Rare loved to have their characters fly off of the stage towards the player, since that’s how most of the enemies in DKC died (and Cranky in the opening when he gets bopped by DK).

@@HethDrakiel I get that, it’s similar to albeit more clumsy than saying hella instead of “hell of a”, but the only two times I’ve seen/heard that are in GB Battletoads and Battletoads Arcade, and Rare is no stranger to including British slang/phrases in their games (“Come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough”).
This was a fun series, gotta love classic beat-em-ups!
yeah I honestly think this game was not really finished. There are even unused assets for the game for Admiral Oink to be a boss in the winter stage instead of Karnath.
Yeah Karnath was meant to have his own stage where you basically go through something's innards and you fight Karnath at the end (which is why Karnath's boss arena looks so much different compared to the rest of the stage).

Holy shit I didn't know you guys also play Endwalker! You guys must've recently recorded this to be talking about Queue (Savage), especially about them stopping sales. Hope you guys will be able to finish the story, or maybe you have, hope you guys really liked it! Would recommend queuing during off peak hours to be able to get into the game, the queues are non-existent during those times, it also depends which servers you're on but it does sound like you're on the NA server so it would be extremely crowded.
Streets of Rage 4 has 3 player co op i believe. Would love to see you guys play it. Fantastic game.

For my part, I avoided the Endwalker queues by playing outside of the busiest hours. I play around 8 am, as opposed to the much busier 5 or 6 pm, where those obnoxiously long queue times are prone to happen.
I always got annoyed at inconsistencies in kids' TV shows as a kid as well, Emile is not alone. I distinctly remember getting cross at a line in "Reboot" where an old character says "I haven't had this much fun in MINUTES" when most other time jokes suggest a second is more like a year to the characters. Fortunately a lot of my favourites from the early 90s (e.g. "The Dreamstone") had pretty consistent worldbuilding, I found out years later that the writers worked from show bibles that explained what was and wasn't possible.
God, I haven't watched this channel in a while, I remember when I used to watch runaway guys so much back in the day
The queues for Endwalker are long because some hours are known as "prime hours" in which the World contains the most players at that moment. For Aether, prime hours start at around 4pm EST, in which you're in queue with 1000+ players, so for people who are working like Emile, the only time they can really play is during prime hours. So really, your best chance of getting in are outside prime hours, which for me is around 8-10am consistently.
I was wondering who else plays XIV. Good to find a kindred spirit.

According to "Rare Replay: The Making of ... Battletoads" Robo-Manus is completely invincible for the first 45 seconds of the fight, just to eat even more money.

Definitely yes on Fusion. It’s the next logical step for Emile after Super (with Dread following that), Jon said it was a good idea with how linear it is meaning Emile won’t need as much handholding and won’t get as lost, and both Jon and Tim have beaten it (Tim doing a blind LP last year).
I'm down for more Battletoads, sure.

Wake up at 8am, queues are nonexistent. Even on day 2, I had no queues. That is how you get in for Endwalker. Also I suppose a less populated server compared to whichever you are on.
Anyway, this was a neat side-track! Would not mind more... even if infinite lives code is needed like the race.

Yeah I'd just login before like 3-4pm EST and queues were like 100 or less for me. I never had an issue really because I wouldn't be playing late in the day.. I don't wake up early usually but I literally played early because I knew that'd be the quickest way to get in.. funny thing is I have only gotten to like the 2nd dungeon of EW. I don't want to rush through then be like "Annnnd I got nothing to do again."
Sure, let's see the modern one. Maybe some other stuff to break up OJ like Splatoon, Mario Golf, or whatever else you guys can play online.
Splatoon 2 would be more likely, I don't know if the servers for the original Splatoon are still around.

That was a pretty short, yet pretty cool series. Until this series, I legit didn't even know Battletoads Arcade was even a thing, much less that there was a modern Battletoads, so hopefully they end up doing the modern one since that could be interesting to see how they fare on what would essentially (at least for Emile and I think maybe Tim? Not sure) be a blind playthrough of a modern game. That said, I feel like it could be interesting to see them tackle either TMNT Arcade (the actual arcade game not the NES one) or Turtles In Time (arcade version not SNES since that version is designed for up to 4 players, much like TMNT Arcade). Either way, keep up the good work guys!

Between this episode and the last one, I can't help but think that someone on the team for this liked the Game Boy Battletoads. (Pictures of at least one GB boss in Big Blag's stage, guest appearance of a toned down Rat Rocket as a miniboss here, and, if I'm not mistaken, Robo Manus as the final boss...)
Edit: on double checking, I was wrong about the picture. Got my giant serpents mixed up.
Robo Manus is also the boss of Intruder Excluder in the original, but his design in this is definitely much more similar to his GB appearance in this game.

The big thing with Endwalker was definitely A LOT of people took off work to blitz through Endwalker in Early Access and the actual release week and queues were madness from what I understood. I was still in the pre-amble to Stormblood unable to play until the 19th of Dec and then I barely met a queue above 1000 even at peak hours at that point. It really tells that A LOT of working people play XIV.
Also Emile being Comic Book Guy as a kid is not surprising to anyone who remembers any stories he used to tell about his childhood. Also IF YOU ARE A PERSON WHO TRIES TO APPLY LOGIC TO EVERYTHING IN MEDIA PLEASE STOP. It's fun to do every once and a while if you're doing it for a bit with friends... but seriously it's not fun if you do it for everything.
That last part is exactly why suspension of disbelief exists, else no one would ever be satisfied with any fictional work.
It also bugs me when people think game balancing = canon abilities.
I'll save the full rant, but there's one RPG where party members only have healing so that you can actually play the game and not get slaughtered when you need more than one fight, and they only canonically have one person able to heal after they lose someone
