I have been riding Shimano SPD since 1990. I recommend using a Shimano SPD pedal with a multi release SH 56 M cleat on a low setting. Very easy to release in every direction. If you use the SH 51 or any other pedal and cleat system you can only release out towards the side. The Shimano SH 56 M is definitely better at different angles. Yes the down side is that you can accidentally pre release if you pull up hard when climbing technical terrain but it's not a problem for recreational riders.

Couple tips: there are shims that come with all CB cleats. You may have to play with those to make sure your cleat spacing is perfect on your pedal. This will make your clip in/out much easier. I believe I use one shim for the Mallet pedals on my CB Stamp shoes.
Second tip I used - try to just focus on your pedal fundamentals vs worrying about being clipped in. I think you’ll find fundamental pedal movements are way easier. Good luck and have fun!

You have such a beautifull bike dude! Would you recommend meta since it has quite a different suspension design?

Thanks for watching! Nic loves his bike! He built it himself, so he loved how he could put it together with all the parts he wanted!
