  • A effective method to Clip in and out regardless of your level as a cyclist. Keep in mind that these are techniques that have worked for me and you may obtain different results entirely.
    As with any cycling activity, follow all recommended safety rules and only do so in an environment that you feel comfortable and safe.
    Have your pedal release set to the easiest setting while learning.
    Decide what leg you will use to clip in and out and do so consistently.
    You aren't clipping out both legs, just one leg.
    There are a number of pedal and cleat systems, Do your research to find the one that works for you.

    I followed these steps perfectly yesterday and conquered my fears. Last year I broke my arm on my first attempt, but yesterday, I successfully clipped in and out for the whole 22 miles with no falls or scares. Thank you! .

    Good video and info. After years of using basic SPD cleats and pedals I got myself some SPT-SL numbers. Put me back on the learning curve a bit. And, I'd say, clipping while rolling is my biggest problem right now.

    This is the video, of yours, that I had been searching for since I just got my first set of clipless shoes. Thank you Luis for this video. It's straight to the point and also seriously informative and helpful. #Excellent The only addition to this video would be the best position and technique for clipping in initially.

    Wish I had seen this two weeks ago - clipping in and clipping out were never hard for me, but I kept falling at stops because I stayed seated and couldn't maintain balance. After seeing your video and then kinda watching other riders, it should have been more apparent in hindsight. Now I'm more balanced and used to it, so it's not as important for me to get out of my seat, but that would have seriously saved me scraping my new shoes and dropping my bike at a lot of intersections as well as given me much more confidence early on.
    I had watched a LOT of these videos too and this is the first one that clearly shows the body mechanics that help.

    Very helpful advice, especially keeping hold of the handle bars for as long as possible when you know you're going to fall. On my first ride with clips, I didn't do that and my elbow and hips paid the price.

  • @Djpauly_bobo

    This was great. Much better than most videos on the subject. I can't seem to clip out with the left leg in the high 12 o'clock position, but I guess as long I stick with the right leg it should be fine.

    I’m brand new to clippless pedals that last part he mentioned when you miss the clip in (every beginner will do it I’ve done it like 10 time already) is so important I think when we miss the clip we get scared and panic don’t do exactly what he did give yourself another pedal with the shoe already clipped in to give yourself more momentum. That’s so important!!

    Wooooo, boy... I watched this video on June 4th, 2023, and on Monday, August 20th it saved my life. Did that slow fall... and held onto the handlebars for dear life. I came away with some minor scraps and I'm good to race on Saturday! Thanks for the tip. An acquaintance fell the same day, and thinks she sprained her arm. I am beyond thankful that I heard this and kept it in the back of my mind.

    Any advice on doing this on an incline? I live somewhere hilly.

    • @thegoodwheel
      @thegoodwheel  17 днів тому

      Thanks for watching. That's a tough one. You would need to be really comfortable balancing the bike at low speeds... with a strong push off., but the mechanics would be the same.

  • @arrabidaking
    @arrabidaking 9 місяців тому

    I never clip out with the leg at the top because I find it harder on that ankle movement.Then I unpedal the other leg to get balanced on both legs and stop safely.

    What if you're stopped on an incline?

    • @thegoodwheel
      @thegoodwheel  11 місяців тому

      If SAFE... Go downhill for a bit using all safety measures... using moment, clip in and then... IF SAFE, turn around and proceed, MAKING EVERY EFFORT TO BE SAFE.
      Or, if it is close to the top walk up and proceed👍🏾
