      agreed, even with Bayo 3 I still revisit this for some ideas... although it would be nice if there was an equivalent succeeding video that might elaborate on what's available in Bayo 3 what with all the new options relating to Demon Masquerade and Demon Slave, and especially when it comes to Viola...

    I know Kamiya likes to make people learn the game themselves but I still think the initial tutorial of holding the button to increase the combo window is too vague. The game shows you how to do it but doesn't really explain why it's useful which just ends up giving a lot of people the impression that button mashing is the way to go.

      The game is supposed to teach you that you can shit out damage in an unreal manner by making you fight on a crumbling platform in the first real chapter. Varied results since comments like these exist

      Considering the game can't go 5 seconds without throwing you into an unnecessary button mash QTE I don't blame them for thinking the combat has little depth

    I have discovered that when using dodge offset in panther form, you can actually continue certain combos as air combos if you jump in cat form while using dodge offset but it requires quick reaction and can be a tricky but is fun :)

    Great video showing the most important tip for beginners: Do NOT tap buttons. Hold them. If you are new to this game it will be next to impossible to break natural combo rythm and hold attack button to execute Dodge Offset when you need it. For example try: Punch (hold 1 sec) -> Kick (hold 1 sec) -> Punch (Wicked Weave). Holding attack buttons do not interrupt combos. This way you will always have button held for Dodge Offset when attack is incoming. Literally play like grandma using microvawe. It will be sooooooooo much easier to throw-in Dodge while performing combos. And work your way from there by trying to shorten hold time or skipping it entirely if no immediate attack is brewing.
    Second tip: You do NOT have to hit enemy during combo to perform Wicked Weave. Run away, do few combo moves, hold button on last but one move and when enemy is next to you press last one for Wicked Weave. You will get bad level times but it will help you to learn attack timing.
    Also on the first run pump every money you have into Witch Hearts. Your Dodge Offset will not be perfect when you will start to encounter fierce atacks like from Grace an Glory on very limited space. Prepare to be scratched :)

  • @darthkahn45
    @darthkahn45 9 років тому +16

    Another awesome trick you can use is when fighting with Shuruba, charged strike moves can actually be charged during a move animation and if done right do not break combos. So when executing an awesome pause combo you can squeeze a cheeky basic charge slash into almost every gap in the combo by holding the button down while she's in the middle of the animation.
    And the wicked weave can also be activated in the middle of a dodge if you hit dodge a split second before Bayonetta has a chance to enter the wicked weave animation.

    Thank you, this video here explains it so well. I have read through the wiki and tried some other sources before which were technically right but the way you described how to use the dodge offset is very clear! Now it finally feels like I am not button mashing anymore.

    Great tutorial. This helped me get the three required torture attacks against Grace & Glory on hard mode in the first chapter.
    I've always naturally let go of my held attack when I dodged. I held it a couple times before, but never thought much of it. So this is cool to know. I also never knew about that book that has all those techniques in it, too, lol.
    It feels pretty strange to do this technique. I'm so used to letting go of my attack, hahah. Gonna take some practice!

    I was wondering if you could offer some aerial combat advice, like which weapons/moves are best for getting enemies in the air quick, and what moves to use in the air and keep it in the air. I went through Non-stop Infinite Climax mode without using dodge offset after having grinded DMC3/4 since I was younger, didn't even try my hand at dodge offset until Bayo 1 got re-released on the Wii U. I think if you start out using the PPPKKP combo as generic filler it's way easier to work yourself up to more advanced stuff.

    I attempted this in Bayonetta Two against the bossfight Valor.
    I'd already beaten this stage several times just mashing buttons and trying to figure out the game as I went along. The best I ever got was a gold.
    I then tried again just now, but with a very simple strategy: I spammed the punch-kick-punch combo, intentionally extending each attack to try and force myself to gain witchtime through dodge offset. I had trouble avoiding damage, so I only got a gold again. However, my combo score instantly doubled and I even shaved three seconds off my time. If I'd taken less damaged, I'd have a platinum.
    All that, just by unga-bunging my way through the level with the most braindead tactics imaginable and trying to use dodge offset.

    well now, so this is what Dodge Offset does. I must say, this is quite astounding. time to blow the dust of Bayonetta and see if i can't bump a few of those golds into platinums. would you happen to have any advice on how to wield the whip and odette effectivly, by the way?

    • @Lycanthromancer1
      @Lycanthromancer1 4 роки тому

      The whip is mainly for battlefield control with lots of enemies (it's good for swinging enemies at other enemies and killing the swung-at enemies stupidly fast with lots of combo points); do this by knocking an enemy's armor partway off (as armor tends to block your whip attacks), then hold the punch button and pressing back on the control stick mid-hold. It's also good for staying in the air for long periods of time by holding punch while in the air near an enemy. It's good for those stupid air-manta ray things, since they're hard to hit otherwise, and it's good for flaming enemies, since you can hit them without being hurt.
      A bit niche, but it shines when it's useful. It's especially great with Grace and Glory. Get them both grouped together after you've knocked the armor partly off of one, dodge for witch time, then do the lasso-swing on it to basically one-shot-kill the other one.
      Oh, and the lasso-swing deflects projectiles by hitting the projectile with the enemy you're swinging around.
      Haven't played with Odette, since I haven't gotten to that part of the game yet. (I just got the game a couple of days ago.)

    They are the 360 degree horizontal spinning kick with guns or kilgore (kkk can show similar result by seems like you have a more powerful shortcut), and the enemy step off of kilgore.
    Do you mind sharing the command of these two movements?
    Cheers!

      Ben Hu The spinning kick is the bullet climax attack for the feet (rotate left stick + K) performed in the air. To do so, jump, then quickly perform the bullet climax. Very easy once you figure out the timing.
      For enemy step: If you're near an enemy and press the jump button Bayonetta will jump off the enemy (this also resets the jump counter fyi). If you have guns equipped to your feet they will fire, so Scarborough Fair, Onyx Roses, Bazillions and Kilgore will each have a slightly different action associated with enemy step. Enemy step in this game is very generous, so you can experiment yourself by jumping on an Affinity with any of those weapons equipped to the feet.
      NB: Kilgore will only fire every two or three steps (unsure off the top of my head, it's been ages since I played the game), unless you reset by landing on the ground. SF and Bazillions will fire on every enemy step. Not too sure about Onyx Roses, but I believe they fire on every step as well, otherwise, it's the same as Kilgore.
      Hope that helps!

    This is so helpful I normally only play traditional 2D fighting games. But seeing games like DMC/Bayo having some technicality to them is interesting. Cool accent Btw! Subscribed do Bayo 2! Though I heard 1 is better
    Your explanations for Bayo remind me of a Blazblue player Bojack768. Not everyone goes to to this extent to breakdown/explain and well.

    To the people who think the combat is not deep or is simplistic (mostly because they only do the punch combo and their only argument is that they still beat the game despite having shit scores) , here you go.

    HI there, this video was super helpful to me, so a lot of thanks for the video. however, I'm having a bit of problem with the animation cancels to get straight to the ww moves like you did one in 4:57(pppppk). is there a trick for animation cancels for a long combo that fast? cause I got the cancels as you did on 4:57 once accidentally(was kinda spamming rt and y and then b). cause it takes a lot of time for me to do that manually with accurate inputs! please help, a bit of explanation would be helpful!

    • @yoshesque
      @yoshesque  6 років тому +2

      Animation cancels are simply a matter of queuing up your inputs correctly. As long as the game recognises that you've hit the P or K button, you can offset the animation, regardless of whether you've actually started the animation at all. So, for instance, if you wanted to get straight to the K in PPPPPK, you would press P -> dodge -> P -> dodge -> P -> dodge -> P -> dodge -> P -> dodge -> K in quick succession. You do need to be fast and accurate to pull off moves like this. There is also an element of memorisation, because you have to remember where you are in the combo, but as I said in the video it all comes down to practice.
      Hope that clears things up!

    how do you dodge offset when there is a delay in the combo moveset? where the command is punch delay punch. Combos can only be offsetted when there are no pauses written in the combo right? ex. (ppp.p) p stands for punch.
