Missing from this video was the Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park. Since this video was created, Georgia Aquarium was built and opened in 2005. Old Altanta Fulton County Stadium and Omni Coliseum and Georgia Dome are no more, and were replaced with Turner Field (originally 1996 Olympic Stadium, but don't know if it still retains the Turner Field name since Georgia State acquired it after Braves left), State Farm Arena (formerly Philips Arena), and Mercedes-Benz Stadium, respectively, plus the addition of Truist Park (formerly SunTrust Park). We also got the Atlanta United soccer team, and the Knights and Trashers hockey teams are gone. Stone Mountain, Fox Theater, Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Fernbank, and Zoo Atlanta, and other attractions are still around too.
right I been here 8 months now originating from New Orleans at the age of 20 😭 nd I hear so much about the “old Atlanta “ nd im here tryna get a glimpse of what dat be like 😭
@@zyderouen3240You won't see it. It's a completely different place now. Bad energy over that city now. It was majority Georgia natives in the 90's. Now it's majority Northern transplants and internationals.

I think it's time for a return of Service Merchandise, only done right and updated, a store you go to with one or two samples of everything they sell on the shelves that you order on a list you make on paper (now on your smart phone) and pick up on your way out or later. It's brought from the back warehouse right up front (right away, not delayed as before), You pay and go, no hiking all through a megastore as big as a small town. No ordering and waiting for delivery with shipping charges added to your cost. I think there is a niche for this.
We returned to the Metro area in 2008 after 17 years in DC. Wow! We left a boom town in '91 and returned to a welfare, grafittied mess. Post Katrina, I'm told by locals. Too bad. Atlanta in the '70s when I first moved here was Champagne Jam and Alex Cooley. The Braves were "America's Home Team." Shootin' the Hooch and Pittypat's were all the rage. We miss Hotlanta. Moved to the North Georgia mountains. Orémus Y'all.
3:15 Man it is so good to see a video in an era where auto racing (NASCAR, NHRA, and IndyCar) actually got respected even among those who didn't follow it that much.
I partially grew up in Atlanta 5-10 years after this - cool to see the puppetry center, Six Flags American Adventure, Lake Lanier, and of course downtown.
This is so interesting! Does anyone remember a "Welcome to Atlanta" VHS like this one that was made (or marketed) by WSB-TV in the 1990s? I remember a copy lying around the house when I was a kid but it likely got tossed out when my mom and stepdad moved.
Atlanta is TERRIBLE today. The fun and innocent vibe is just gone. In the 90's people couldn't wait to get there. Now people can't wait to get out of there, or just avoid it altogether.
The 1996 Olympics hurt a lot of people to the benefit of many rich people. Business in general slowed and waned in anticipation of the Games to where real estate and other sectors were wary of making any moves, worried about what the Games would do, how they would change the city after the games, paused to take whatever advantages might materialize or avoid any pitfalls. Small businesses were shut down without compensation during the weeks of the Games. Bill Campbell eventually went to prison for tax evasion.
678 & 770 didn't exist until mid to late 90"s. Hell, I remember not having to use the 404 area code to make local calls until the late 80's early 90's.
This video 📹 makes me miss this simple, sporty but relaxed era in time. 🥲 I may have been born in 96, but i can see the simplicity and fun nature of 1992 somewhat. I came to Atlanta in 2004 with my mom, it's not the same as back then 😢 But I'm grateful to at least see Atlanta closer to 2000 and when this video was made.

Atlanta University Complex? Too afraid of the backlash if they said "Black colleges"? Just a reminder of how long it has taken to accept Black folks as legitimate citizens. They didn't want to tarnish the promotion of Atlanta with such a negative mention of race. The least They could have said is Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Why not simply include them all with all the other colleges and universities? Just had to keep them separate.

I got here 30 years too late. Now it’s just an overcrowded corporate cesspool. Same as every other sprawling city in the sunbelt😢

The last era of the original Atlanta was in 1990-1999.
This video seems to be asking people to move to Atlanta. 30 years later, we are full!
Back in 1992, Atlanta was ATLANTA!!!! The city was on fire!!!!!
Haha. I get it. "Burning of Atlanta 1864", "Resurgens", etc.
🔥Hotlanta was the nickname

The music, the graphics, I'm having so much nostalgia. iN 1992 I was just starting 1st grade in South ATL.
That's Mariette Hartley, who did those Polaroid commercials with James Garner in the late '70s and early '80s.
I was here. What a time to be alive! ❤❤❤
Atlanta in the 1990s may have just been the best city in America to live in. Words cant explain how good it was.

Can anyone help me find the instrumental music used in this video?
Best part of this video is the comments below. Atlanta was fantastic during this era.

service merchandise has been long gone... and there is no more Georgia dome! and don't try to play down MOREHOUSE COLLEGE!!
MOREHOUSE COLLEGE? LMAO. Yeah, most high school student have Morehouse in their top 3 colleges to go to.

U see how they showed only white people as well
U see how they only started with white people ( no shade telling the truth)
Your reaction is exactly why. Atlanta was about fun and edutainment back then. Not all that divisive racial energy.
Atlanta has no identity. Well, at least it's not Charlotte.

Sad to say but i see fewer blacks.😢
Atlanta was 67% Black in 1992. It is 46% Black today. I mean jesus christ how do you guys even create this narrative? Its insane lmfao.
