Here's what I would've done with the ending to Buds 'N' Buns. Steve notices wadded up tissue papers and asks Laura about it. When she mentions that she misses being his friend, he admits the same thing and thanks her for introducing him to Myra. It was because of this, Steve found himself falling in love with a woman who really accepts him as he is. He explains why he really hung out with the Winslows in their home. Steve wanted to experience life with a loving family that Carl and the others are to each other. That he never got that with his own parents and most of his relatives who mistreat him and blame him for his birth. Only then, Laura feels terrible for how she treated Steve and realizes that she should never take her loving family for granted no matter what. She asks how life has been for him. Steve mentions it improved greatly after Myra and her mother, Mavis, confronted his family for it. He apologizes to Laura for being obsessed with her and would like to remain friends with her. She likes that idea and they reconcile. When Myra comes out of the bathroom, she curiously asks what's going on. Steve explains that he was just clarifying things with Laura and that they're just friends. He reassures Myra that he loves her with all his heart. She happily accepts this and she and Steve leave for the art museum. Laura goes back to reading her novel happy with the way things turned out. She and Steve are still friends, but she also gained a new friend in Myra.

For starters, Myra may have been sweet in the beginning, but as the show went on, it became more and more clear to me that she wasn't interested in Steve as a person, but as a person to have under her constant control (it is hard to explain, but what I basically mean to say is that she prevented him from leading his own life and making his own decisions, especially when he became older of when he was Stefan, who acted more mature than Steve). Myra was very possessive, demanding and hysterical when it comes to Steve. She also appeared to be some kind of a stalker after she and Steve broke up. While I do agree that Steve was obsessive when it comes to Laura, you can tell that his love for Laura was genuine. Rachel even told Laura so in one of the episodes. Thing is; Laura and Steve know each other for a VERY long time and they turn to each other time and time again if they needed help or if they simply wanted to talk (at some points about serious matters), something you never saw when he was with Myra. This indicates that there were no other attraction or chemistry between Steve and Myra except being physical, even if the physical attraction was mutual at first. However, having a physical attraction between two potential lovers is simply not enough, it is also a matter of the heart and how you know the other person what should make a relationship work. Otherwise, it would go downhill before it even begins...

If she really did not want Steve in her life, she would not have apologized every time she was a bit too harsh on Steve and would have just let Steve go, but she couldn't. Even in the first season, in the episode where Steve was the target of a bully, Laura did say, "In a strange way, I'm going to miss Steve."

Steve has always been there for her on multiple occasions, especially in the episode when he went to the dump to get Laura's old doll Emily, that Eddie threw in the trash. So after a while, in some episodes, Laura did catch feelings for Steve.
That would explain the hostility Laura sometimes showed towards Steve. Steve knew how to pull the strings of her heart, and I believe Laura genuinely didn’t like that. She did not like the fact she had feelings for him. That had to be frustrating. Steve won Laura’s heart during that non date in the Big Fix episode. It was ova. Steve used to spit some serious game to Laura when they were younger. He planted a lot of seeds earlier on that blossomed when they got older.

This gave him time to reflect on his own behavior and learn his lesson. After accepting that he needs to change his ways, Steve started growing up and maturing himself. When he agreed to go steady with Myra at the end of Paradise Bluff in season 6, she calmed down considerably and started to mature herself. Steve was less attached to the Winslows because she kept him distracted from his problems with his own family. Stefan also played a role in Laura's maturing as well. When he first appeared, he was everything she was looking for and was attracted to him. However, when Stefan started showing his narcissistic and arrogant traits in his lack of concern for Carl's partner being shot and insulting Steve, she was fed up. Laura demands that he returns as Steve at once. She points out that unlike Stefan, he was always considerate, compassionate and caring of others. Realizing how much he hurt her, Stefan agrees to return as Steve eating a tablet(serving as an antidote). Laura is happy to see him again and claims she never wants to see Stefan anymore. Steve reassures her that his personality can be improved upon and will find a away to do so. In between Dr. Urkel and Mr. Cool and Stefan Returns, Laura had forgotten about Stefan and went out with other guys. Meanwhile, Steve was making improvements on his personality to try to tone down the narcissistic arrogant traits and retain the caring side of himself.

It is also possible to be romantically interested in someone and not truly love that person - that MAY have been Myra to Steve. It is debatable whether or not Myra truly loved Steve for Steve or if that was just an extension of her being attracted to brainy guys. In the episode where Carl accidentally becomes Carl Urkel, it would have been funny if Myra had developed a crush on nerd Carl, playing off her attraction to nerds.

Yes, they did. The lockers shaking implied that Steve and Myra are no longer virgins after sex. The producers just retconned that incident as nothing more than a make out session in the later seasons.

This is why I missed Rachel when she disappeared from the series. That's the 4th season when Rachel's appearance started blacking out before she completely vanished from the 5th season. The producers should have had Rachel return to Family Matters after Getting By got canceled or made more guest appearances. And it's funny that Rachel vanished again after she reappeared in the 6th season making a few guest appearances, then reappeared again but only once in the 9th season.
Here's what I always HATED about Laura. She's all repulsed by Steve when he's around, but when he's suddenly unavailable, she misses him. It's the "i don't like you, but i don't want anyone else to like you either" syndrome.
Laura was a decent character don't get me wrong but when it came to having any attachment to Steve as written in the show she was portrayed as a very harsh, shallow individual. She only ever paid attention to Steve when he was dating someone else and when he would break up with that particular person everytime Laura said she missed him she would still reject him. It fed her ego to be loved by him. And it wasn't until the very last episode of the nineth season that she finally professed her so called 'feelings' for him and agreed to marry him only because he became rich and successful. S'really insane how fans/viewers over look how she treated Urkel. Sometimes I even feel crazy and alone myself! I think she deserved better writing.

When Steve agreed to go steady with Myra in season 6's Paradise Bluff, she calmed down considerably and also started maturing. He was less attached to the Winslows because she kept him distracted with his own family issues. For Laura, Stefan was everything she was looking for in a man. However, when his narcissistic and arrogant traits came out including his lack of concern for Carl and his insulting Steve, this pushed her over the edge. Laura tells Stefan off how she felt. She prefers Steve over him because in spite of him being annoying, he's always been compassionate, caring and mature for his age. Realizing how much he hurt Laura, Stefan agreed to go back as him. For a while, she forgot about him until Maxine asked for his return. By this time, Steve had already perfected Stefan's personality by creating Boss Sauce(which maintains his physical appearance, while retaining Urkel's caring traits) and a transformation chamber(to reduce rashes on sensitive parts). By season 9, Laura and Steve finally understood how much they're meant to be together and thus, there was no need for Stefan and Myra.
Steve didnt become rich at all. And laura professed her love for him BEFORE NASA asked him to go in outer space. Dont forget stephan, who had money and was a famous model proposed to her too. She chose steve in the end because she truly loved him

Let me be honest with you. In as much Laura got annoyed by Steve, she cares about him. He's the only person to make her smile, make her feel warm and cheer her up. As for The Winslows Carl cares about Steve more than he likes to admit it, his annoyance towards Steve is more because of his clumsiness than anything else. As long as Steve is not breaking anything or is clumsy, Carl is cool with Steve. Harriet is used to having Steve in the house and knows he's there for her or the Winslows when they go through rough times. Rachel- really cared for Steve especially since Season 2. Yes she got annoyed with him sometimes but overall she cares for him Richie and Steve has a bonding relationship as Richie looks up to him. Estelle loved Steve like a grandson. Yeah, the main reason was Stefan wasn’t even a real person. The purpose of Stefan was for Steve to be acceptable to Laura. Stefan is a metaphor and represented the lifestyle Laura was chasing. That lifestyle did not include dating the annoying, clumsy, destructive, nerdy next door neighbor. But… Steve always had a connection to her heart. I don’t think Laura liked the fact that Steve was able to connect with her in ways the none of her other suitors could. Laura was the way she was because of Steve putting her up on a pedestal. Laura was almost ready for Steve at the prom, but she had a little more maturing to do, and so did Steve. But believe me when I say, Laura was always going to pick Steve.

This gave him time to reflect on his own behavior and learn his lesson. After accepting that he needs to change his ways, Steve started growing up and maturing himself. When he agreed to go steady with Myra at the end of Paradise Bluff in season 6, she calmed down considerably and started to mature herself. Steve was less attached to the Winslows because she kept him distracted from his problems with his own family.
Stefan also played a role in Laura's maturing as well. When he first appeared, he was everything she was looking for and was attracted to him. However, when Stefan started showing his narcissistic and arrogant traits in his lack of concern for Carl's partner being shot and insulting Steve, she was fed up. Laura demands that he returns as Steve at once. She points out that unlike Stefan, he was always considerate, compassionate and caring of others. Realizing how much he hurt her, Stefan agrees to return as Steve eating a tablet(serving as an antidote). Laura is happy to see him again and claims she never wants to see Stefan anymore. Steve reassures her that his personality can be improved upon and will find a away to do so. In between Dr. Urkel and Mr. Cool and Stefan Returns, Laura had forgotten about Stefan and went out with other guys. Meanwhile, Steve was making improvements on his personality to try to tone down the narcissistic arrogant traits and retain the caring side of himself.

This is why I missed Rachel when she disappeared from the series. That's the 4th season when Rachel's appearance started blacking out before she completely vanished from the 5th season. Laura was a decent character don't get me wrong but when it came to having any attachment to Steve as written in the show she was portrayed as a very harsh, shallow individual. She only ever paid attention to Steve when he was dating someone else and when he would break up with that particular person everytime Laura said she missed him she would still reject him. It fed her ego to be loved by him. And it wasn't until the very last episode of the nineth season that she finally professed her so called 'feelings' for him and agreed to marry him only because he became rich and successful. S'really insane how fans/viewers over look how she treated Urkel. Sometimes I even feel crazy and alone myself! I think she deserved better writing.

Steve's problem was that he was too attached to Laura to see the kinds of other girls he could've had. He set his sights too early and was to persistent with her. Steve at times, didn't understand that No really means No and Laura made it clear that she wasn't interested in him in a romantic sense. Hence, there was a reason Myra and Stefan were created in the later seasons. They were meant to give Laura and Steve a potential significant other they can be with.
People also often overlooked the fact that Myra played an important role in Steve's life and maturity in the later seasons. Because if it hadn't been for her appearance in Season 4's A Thought in the Dark and shown her possessive traits in Buds n' Buns, he would never learned his lesson. Steve would've kept stalking Laura and invading the Winslows' personal space into season 5. For Laura, Stefan was everything she was looking for in a man. However, when his narcissistic and arrogant traits came out including his lack of concern for Carl and his insulting Steve, this pushed her over the edge. Laura tells Stefan off how she felt. She prefers Steve over him because in spite of him being annoying, he's always been compassionate, caring and mature for his age. Realizing how much he hurt Laura, Stefan agreed to go back as him. For a while, she forgot about him until Maxine asked for his return. By this time, Steve had already perfected Stefan's personality by creating Boss Sauce(which maintains his physical appearance, while retaining Urkel's caring traits) and a transformation chamber(to reduce rashes on sensitive parts).
By season 9, Laura and Steve finally understood how much they're meant to be together and thus, there was no need for Stefan and Myra.
Steve didnt become rich at all. And laura professed her love for him BEFORE NASA asked him to go in outer space. Dont forget stephan, who had money and was a famous model proposed to her too. She chose steve in the end because she truly loved him

She couldn't stand that Steve was going away from the 16 year old boy toy she was so obsessed with. Him no longer wearing suspenders and tight pants was nothing but just a metaphor of growing up. He was still the same old guy who would care about people and etc. There's no growth in Steve and Myras relationship. All she ever wanted to do is control who he was and what he does at all times

Yeah, the main reason was Stefan wasn’t even a real person. The purpose of Stefan was for Steve to be acceptable to Laura. Stefan is a metaphor and represented the lifestyle Laura was chasing. That lifestyle did not include dating the annoying, clumsy, destructive, nerdy next door neighbor. But… Steve always had a connection to her heart. I don’t think Laura liked the fact that Steve was able to connect with her in ways the none of her other suitors could. Laura was the way she was because of Steve putting her up on a pedestal. Laura was almost ready for Steve at the prom, but she had a little more maturing to do, and so did Steve. But believe me when I say, Laura was always going to pick Steve.
She could be herself with steve and Stefan became boring after a while
