She and Steve did a lot of growing up during the show's run. This was the whole point of Myra and Stefan. They were meant to give the two main characters an ideal significant other for them to be with. In Steve's case, he was introduced to Ted's cousin, Myra, who is intelligent and beautiful in season 4's A Thought in the Dark. He was originally attracted to her because she was a sweetheart who loves and accepts him as himself. At the end of Buds 'N' Buns, Myra showed a different side to her and one that put Steve off her permanently. Her stalking and invading his personal space was beneficial in season 5 because he learned how annoying he was to everyone in general and decided to do some growing up. Once Steve agreed to go steady with Myra in the end of season 6's Paradise Bluff, she calmed down considerably and started to mature. She went back to the intelligent sweetheart that he was attracted to originally. Steve was also less attached to the Winslows because Myra kept him distracted from his own family problems. Laura learned that she should never fall in love with a man for his looks after what she endured with Stefan in the end of season 5's Dr. Urkel and Mr. Cool. He showed a lack of concern over Carl's partner being shot and once he insulted Steve by calling him a village klutz, this enraged her. Laura told Stefan off how she felt and demanded that he return as Urkel at once. She points to that as annoying as Steve was, he was always caring and compassionate to others. Realizing how much he hurt Laura, he agreed to return as Urkel via eating a tablet which serves as an antidote. When she tells him that she never wants to see Stefan again, he reassures her that his alter-ego's can be improved on. For a while, Laura forgot about him but not the lessons she learned. She was more mindful in being careful in who she dated and get to know the person first. That was until Stefan Returns when Maxine asked if Steve could bring him back. However, Laura points out that Stefan's arrogance and narcissistic behavior in his lack of concern over Carl's partner being shot was the main reason why she never asked him to do so. After some convincing from Maxine, she finally did ask Steve. By this time he had already completed the challenge by creating boss sauce(which helps maintain Steve's compassion and tone down the narcissistic traits) and a transformation chamber to cut down on the rashes for sensitive parts of his body. By the time season 9 rolled around, there was no need for Stefan and Myra
This might be corny but only thing left would have been a possible great wedding between Steve and Laura. They ended a show with a PERMANENT cliffhanger ending that could have been epic !!! 😡
As I grow older I do appreciate Steve's relationship with Laura. Yes, Laura, did find him annoying and at times did snap at him, which is understandable. He did invade her personal space at times and was a little too helpful at times. However, she has always cared and had a love for Steve since day one. She was one of the few people who never took advantage of his kindness and appreciate everything he did for her. She wasn't afraid to stand up for him or be seen with him in public. She always saw Steve for who he really is, underneath those nerdy glasses. A nice, loyal, smart guy with a heart of gold. Steve's love for Laura was unconditional, every nice thing he did, he never expected anything in return as long as she was happy.
Well said! The same thing happened with me. Watching the show again made me appreciate Steve and Laura even more. When I was young, I missed certain nuances and subtleties between them that make them so special. Laura was very blunt and honest, but she didn't always wear her heart on her sleeve like Steve. Her love and care was more in her actions than words.
You make a great point. When I re-watched the show, I was thinking about how the writers did a great job of showing traits of Harriet and Carl in all three kids. Harriett and Carl are among my favorite TV parents.
Jaleel actually own a cheese factory overseas. It’s a good business bc cheese has an addictive ingredient. It’s hard to say no to a grill cheese sandwich.
@@starryeyednostalgia7503 For me the reason why I didn't ship them is not bc of Laura but for Steve. Honestly, I felt Laura's treatment of Steve was pretty justified. She invaded her personal space and never took no for an answer. This is why I did prefer Myra and Steve for a long time since Steve met his match. Her not being attractive to him didn't really bother me, since you can't help who you are attracted to and she always saw him as a friend and never to advantage of his kindness, except that one time when she wanted him to be Stefan. I do prefer Steve and Laura as adults since Steve finally left Laura be and accepted the fact she only likes him nothing more as a friend and still continues to love her unconditionally.
Steve and Laura did a lot of growing up and maturing, which was the point of Stefan and Myra The problem with Myra was how psychotic, possessive, jealous, immature, overbearing and a commitment control freak she is. At one point, Steve was attracted to her mainly because of how sweet she was to him and accepted him as he is. After showing off those negative traits, he was put off Myra permanently. A lot of people forget that she played an important role in Steve's life and maturing. I say this because had Myra not been introduced in season 4's A Thought in the Dark and shown her negative traits at the end of Buds 'N' Buns, it would've been a different story. Steve would kept stalking Laura into season 5 and would've gotten a restraining order against him. He would never had grown up the way he did and would've been alone the rest of his life. Myra taught Steve a hard lesson in respecting personal boundaries by having him endure life with her invading his personal space and stalking him relentlessly. She took the lesson a step further by forcibly having sex with him in his locker, spy on him by drawing him naked in his room and demanding commitment from him. In turn, Steve realized how annoying he was to everyone in general and accepted he needed to do a lot of maturing to do. After he agreed to go steady with Myra in season 6's Paradise Bluff, she calmed down considerably and started to mature into her own person. Steve started growing up into his own person and was less attached to the Winslows because she kept him distracted from his family problems. Myra stopped picking fights with Laura, started to befriend her and started fitting in with her set of friends much better. This continued into season 7 where she gave Laura a piece of her mind and explained why Steve was competing against Curtis in the drag race. He knew the dangers of drag racing because one of his cousins, Cleotus, was in an accident from one and was willing to risk his life to keep her safe. When Myrtle returned to rekindle her pursuit of Eddie in season 7's Swine Lake, Steve had a Deja' Vu moment harkening back into season 5 when Myra stalked him relentlessly and invaded his personal space. He warned her several times to stay away from Eddie because he already has a wonderful girlfriend in Greta and there's no need for her to interfere with his life. By Season 8, Myra slowly started to go back to her old ways when she demanded Steve that they get married after graduation from college. He refused because he was too young, had plans for himself and felt like she was too much of a commitment control freak. She was more mindful in being careful in who she dated and get to know the person first because looks can be very deceiving. By this time he had already completed the challenge by creating boss sauce(to help maintain Steve's compassion and tone down the narcissistic traits) and a transformation chamber to cut down on the rashes for sensitive parts of his body(which was one of the side effects to his Cool Juice). By the time season 9 rolled around, there was no need for Stefan and Myra. Steve and Laura are able to be together. During the events of Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Myra tried to save her relationship with Steve by pretending to break up with him in her attempt to get him to relinquish his love for Laura and be with her. However, she really underestimated his willingness to move on with his life and which resulted in her retaliation. During Crazy For You, Myra and Stefan succeeded in breaking up Steve and Laura's first date. However, when he reprimanded the two, Stefan immediately felt guilty over what he done. Myra still remained remorseless for her actions, pointing out Laura doesn't deserve Steve and she does. He tells her off she doesn't deserve him after how she behaved and even Stefan defends him, having seen how much of a psychopath she is. He mentions during his last date with Laura, he suspected they were falling out of love for each other. Unlike Myra, Stefan isn't going to force her to be in a relationship which no one will be happy. In Crazier for You, Steve learns the truth about her spying on him via Stefan and he destroys his new glasses. Taking out the old ones, he confronts Myra for her behavior and tells her off to relinquish her love for him immediately because he's never going to take her back. Steve demands that she stops writing him, sending him presents, calling him, etc. since he loves Laura. Myra refuses to take No for an answer and still determined to win him back. She shows up dressed up like Laura for their date at Amore's and Steve orders her to leave at once. He doesn't want Myra back in his life after all this and thinks she needs professional help. While she managed to gain her rival's forgiveness before she had her falsely arrested for stealing her watch. Steve refused to believe Myra by calling her out as a bad liar and publicly exposes her by revealing that she violated his privacy by spying on him with the spy cam she attached to his new glasses (he ended up wearing his old ones because of her). At the police station, he manages to get the charges dropped against Laura by filing a police report against Myra. She is arrested for framing Laura along with her spying on him with illegal surveillance gear Although upset by their break up, Stefan kept this promise once he learned that Laura accepted Steve's proposal at the end of Pop Goes the Question. He decides that he will look for his special someone and get to know his relatives instead. When Myra learned about Steve and Laura's engagement, she continue carrying the torch into Lost in Space.
How he could change gears between dramatically different characters including the different energy and precense is completely bananas. He was outstanding.
We ALL can use a friend like Laura, who genuinely cares about people who can't stand up for themselves. That's what I love about her. "Family Matters" will ALWAYS remain a favorite show of mine!
Steve was a good friend. I would love a friend like Steve. Laura was such a good friend to Steve bc he was such a good person and good friend to her. He treated her with the utmost respect always and she recognized this. She not only recognized how good he was to her but she recognized and appreciated how good he was to others. I always taught my daughter, no matter how good a person treats you - always pay attention to how they treat others. That tells the TRUE story. There are a lot of good and genuine people but unfortunately, there are people who treat others particularly really nice bc they have some alternative motive (again, SOME people) So I agree - to have such a good friend like Steve - we have to be a good friend. ♥️
I think Laura would have realized she loved Steve more quickly before season 9 if Steve tried walking out of her life like he did in season 9 when he was willing to give her up and let her choose Stefan while he was going to move to Russia with his parents.
Thing was with Steve, he was supposed to be a one-time only character. He was originally introduced as a popular kid(similar to his character, Bobby Ross, from the Good Morning Miss Bliss pilot) who moved into the Urkel's new home in Chicago from New York with his folks: Herb(neurosurgeon) and Diane Roberta(a successful scientist). Laura is immediately smitten by Steve and ignored asking Mark. Instead, she asks him out to the dance. When Jaleel White was casted as Steve, he didn't want the character to be like him on the show until season 3. Thus, he changed his character to his iconic nerdy and clumsy self after observing a kid he knew in school.
They changed his appearance to being a nerd at White's request. This made Urkel an icon for nerds. Bart was already popular for his rebelliousness, but he was a hidden genius inside and was good at detecting bad guys.
He used to always say “I’m wearing you down baby. IM WEARING YOU DOWWWNNN!!!” No truer words have ever been spoken. It was great seeing him finally win with her after all those years of “losing.” Appreciate the time & effort you put into this video & part 2 as well.
Laura always had Steve’s back and brought the best out in him and vice versa. Seeing Laura care less about being popular and being with the best looking guy and Steve becoming less nerdy was truly great to witness.
Well said! The evolution of their growth and maturity from season 1 to 9 was one of my favorite slow burns on a TV show. It was heartwarming watching them be totally in sync and in love at the end.

I’d still take Myra over her but I ain’t hate Laura. She had her good qualities too. She was just more shallow most the time which is understandable for a teenager.
I agree completely. Jaleel and Kellie's chemistry was pretty amazing for them to be so young. Jaleel once mentioned he is constantly asked if he and Kellie ever hooked up in real life because of how strong their chemistry was.
@@C0smicSlawp It was a radio interview when he mentioned being asked all the time. I can't find that one. However, here is a recent one where the interviewer mentioned how great their chemistry was. Jaleel had some really great things to say about Kellie and how he felt she was his equal talent wise. It starts at 43:20 ua-cam.com/video/G00zFoxZ7xU/v-deo.html&ab_channel=UPROXXVideo
I like how Laura be callin out her brother on his bullshit instead of supporting it especially when it came to Steve she was a better friend to Steve than Eddie was
There was one episode where Eddie took responsibility for himself and shielded Steve from being yelled at by Mr. McClure. He confesses that he was the one with Greta and Steve had nothing to do with his plans. That he was the one who picked up her and Eddie up while they were dealing with an unexpected flat tire. When Mr. McClure fires him out of anger, Steve tells him off about his attitude and refuses to work for someone who is brash in his judgment in firing those who took responsibility for themselves.
She's always loved him as a friend. She always stood up 4 him sometimes help make him feel better. "U love me don't chu?" I'm wearin u down baby, I'm wearin u down!" LMBO
@@starryeyednostalgia7503 ikr, I like when Laura would call Steve ask him 2 come over cause she needed 2 talk 2 him, before she could hang up he's runnin thru the door LMBO
Agreed. Laura often expressed her irritation with Steve, but her actions always spoke louder that she cared. You don't go to bat for someone you don't care about the way Laura did. It was beautiful watching her and Steve constantly stand up for each other.
Laura had forever been in Steve’s corner. She has truly both loved and cared about him from day one. For a long time it only seemed as though Laura found him annoying was only because she couldn’t yet handle the feelings that she already had for him. Laura wasn’t yet ready to simply come out with it. But as the show progressed Laura slowly grew closer and closer to him. Not to mention that if anyone hadn’t noticed was that Laura actually had no issue with Steve already sitting up under her. And she always truly had his best interests at heart. Low key Laura actually enjoyed Steve’s advances not to mention having his attention in general. Laura and Steve both of them truly pushed and brought out the best in each other and they even made sacrifices for one another. Myra didn’t truly love Steve like Laura did. While even though Myra and Steve had similar interests Myra was a bit insecure, possessive and truly resentful of seeing Steve grow.

He knew the dangers of drag racing because one of his cousins, Cleotus, was in an accident from one and was willing to risk his life to keep her safe. Myra's stalking and invading Urkel's personal space proved beneficial for everyone involved during season 5. He learned a hard lesson in respecting people's personal space. Steve realized how annoying he was to the Winslows and everyone else in general. He accepted that he had a lot of growing up to do starting with his attitude. When Myrtle returned in She's Back and in Swine Lake to renew her pursuit of Eddie, Urkel had a Deja Vu moment going back to season 5 when Myra stalked him relentlessly. He understands how annoying that is because he been through the same thing that he inflicted on Laura(minus forcibly having sex with her in her locker and drawing her naked in her room) and her family. Steve warned Myrtle several times to stay away from Eddie because he has a wonderful girlfriend in Greta and there's no need for her to break them up. That she needs to find her own man and leave them alone.
Even Waldo when he defended Steve in season 3's A Test of Friendship and called Eddie out for wanting to cheat on their chemistry test. He points out that it's plagiarism and wrong on all levels. Waldo mentions Eddie should've known better than to ask Steve to help him cheat. Before leaving, he tells Eddie off that he may get failing grades, but he earns them. Waldo defended Steve again in season 5's Grandmama. When he found out that Eddie ditched Urkel for Kenny, he was not happy with it. Waldo reminded him that he and Steve were supposed to be partners in the basketball tournament for the tickets to the Chicago Bulls games.

yea, before him it was just a cookie-cutter middle-class family sitcom w/ no real appeal; his talent saved it plus allowed all the actors to really dig deep into their character acting in various ways
This is what we watched growing up. Age appropriate, high values and morals television. It taught us right from wrong. Kids today don’t have programs like this. I can almost remember watching these episodes. Good times!

I couldn't agree more. After nearly 10 years, the show deserved to have a better series finale. A hour special would have been great! Saved By The Bell had a special TV movie for Zach and Kelly's wedding. So the same could have happened for Steve and Laura.
@@starryeyednostalgia7503 that’s funny you bring that up about saved by the bell because I mentioned that to my wife just a couple of days ago, ha! And family matters was more popular and had a bigger fan base. Doesn’t make sense that they would just end it with that last scene from him coming back from outer space which I thought was a ridiculous story to begin with.
The sad part about it was that had they used White's original script's ending for Breaking Up is Hard to Do, we could've had Laura and Steve's wedding.
He must have been a great kisser since not only Laura fell for him but even the mean girl in the student home looked like she was about to faint then he kissed her
If you actually pay attention, a bit of Stefan leaks out. Steve straightens his back into some Stefan after the first kiss. Then Laura's second kiss is very reminiscent of her first kiss scene with Stefan.
After Jaleel, Kellie was the best actor on that show. Just supremely underrated even at an early age. People who watch a lot of tv recognize that Kellie acted so well, she was able to convey an implied love that was being hidden from the object of her love. That cannot be easy. The writing on their relationship was a little bit adult but she and Jaleel were able to pull it off. If she would have stayed in show business, the right role could have made her a huge star.
You explain this so nicely. Kellie is sooo underrated as an actor. Jaleel constantly speaks of how he considers Kellie his acting equal on the show. I loved Laura growing up, but I didn't even realize just how fantastic Kellie was at playing her until later. Her skill was more subtle and nuanced, but she hit every note to be such a young girl. Kellie has mentioned she wanted to break away from the business after awhile. However, I would have loved seeing her in more shows/movies.
It's crazy to think that Steve wasn't even part of the show at the beginning. He came in halfway thru the first season as a date for Laura. Either way, he ended up taking over the show. This show had so many great teachable moments. Their relationship was everything. You can't even find a decent message on a show anymore.
I'm soooo thankful for this video. I've been saying for a long time Laura was the best pick for Steve. She was never CRUEL to Steve. Yes she would hurt his feelings but that's because he did do clumsy, reckless things, and was down right annoying. But she was ALWAYS his friend. She was a real one. Myra had a fetish for nerds. Go back to when they first met. Her cousin was Teddy, one of Laura's boyfriends. He said my cousin has a "thing" for nerds. She would have liked anybody that was a nerd. It wasn't like she loved Steve like Laura grew to love him...in a genuine type way. Even how they broke up was crazy. She was playing games and even was stalking/spying on him at one point.
I'm so glad you liked the video! I'm going to jump on my soapbox about this topic. Laura definitely gets a lot of overblown hate compared to other characters who were worse to Steve. Laura had her moments where she pissed me off by being bratty and selfish, but I've never seen her as evil. Her point of view is always dismissed because she wasn't romantically interested in Steve and was brutally honest with him. Laura's attitude came from peer pressure but also because Steve didn't understand the concept of privacy, boundaries and space. If someone you're not interested in keeps bothering you, you will eventually start having an attitude too. Steve Urkel is one of my all-time favorite characters in the history of entertainment, but the kid could drive anyone to frustration lol. Another thing about Laura is you really have to go by her actions and not words. Her words signify frustration and anger, but her actions show otherwise. She always had Steve's back when it mattered most and she always went out of her way to make things right when she did hurt Steve. Most people wouldn't have done half of what Laura did for Steve under the same circumstances. I love how Steve and Laura have impeccable integrity and kind hearts at their core despite being flawed. As for Myra, I can see why people prefer her because of how enamored she was with him. On the surface, she and Steve have more in common and she appears to like Steve for him. However, people overlook how Myra often pushed Steve to do things against his values and morals. She would get upset when he didn't respond how she saw fit. Remember her calling him a mama's boy at the drive in because he wanted to save himself for marriage? Stalking him and drawing him naked without his consent? Throwing a grill through his window because he didn't want to propose marriage? Helping the Christmas shoppers wrap Steve up because he took too long gift wrapping? Dumping him because he wanted to improve himself and grow into his manhood? 😂 Don't get me wrong, I love Myra and find her highly entertaining. She was needed for Steve to learn more about himself and come into his own. However, it amuses how so many fans overlook how controlling and suffocating she was to Steve's personal development for her own selfish reasons. She had a manipulative and vindictive side long before S9. So I totally agree that Steve made the right choice in picking Laura. People will often say Laura only loved Steve because he changed, but what did he change exactly? It's not like Steve had to drastically change his values, character, morals or heart to be with Laura. He was still the same intelligent, kind, loving, quirky and nerdy guy he'd always been. He just stopped being so aggressive, clumsy and wore better fitting pants lol. Regardless of how it started, Steve and Laura's hearts, souls, values, and character were aligned at the end. Not only were they best friends, but they were also in love. That's what matters the most and why I see them as the better fit.
@@starryeyednostalgia7503 yup you are 100% right. All points I have come to make myself. Steve drove everyone crazy because like you said he didn't understand boundaries and privacy most of the time. Also, to piggy back back off what you said about other saying Laura only liked him because he changed. Which again, I agree with you. He may have matured a bit but he didn't really change. There was an episode where Laura WANTED to be around Steve more than Stephan, and she wanted to be open an honest about her feelings but Stephan and Steve played her by "switching" places on her. So in conclusion lol Laura has always been the best pick 😊
A lot of people forget that she played an important role in his life and maturing. I say this because had Myra not been introduced in midway season 4, it would've been a different story. He knew the dangers of drag racing because one of his cousins, Cleotus, had been a professional drag racer, got into an accident and was willing to risk his life to keep her safe. Steve didn't doubt that Curtis was a good guy to Laura and cared about her well being. Which is why for the most part, he didn't interfere with their relationship. Curtis's occupation as a drag racer was the main reason Steve had a right to be concerned. Once he realized that danger after Steve's near death experience, he vowed never to do that again. Steve also told Myrtle to look for her own man and leave them alone. It took her near the end of Season 9's Don't Make Me Over for her to realize how much Eddie simply wasn't interested in her and relinquished her love for him. By Season 8, Myra slowly started to go back to her old ways when she demanded Steve that they get married after graduation from college. He refused because he was too young, had plans for himself and felt like she was too much of a commitment control freak.
The last clip almost had me teary eyed cause Steve…his expression the ENTIRE time…nothing but true joy and love, getting to dance with the woman he loves the most.
I loved reading your comment. I felt the same watching that scene. Another sweet moment is when Laura tells Steve she loves him during their Polka dance. It was a full circle moment for them both.
If I'm not mistaken Kellie said in an interview in the 90's that she wanted her/Laura and Steve to be a couple from the beginning because of how nice and charming he was too her and she hated her character rejecting him, but the Producers and Writers of the show said that it was all meant for plot and that she would fall for him towards the late ending of the seasons of the show..
It wouldn't surprise me if she said it. I remember her saying similar things in other interviews back then. Kellie felt Laura had feelings for Steve, but was in denial. She also wanted Steve and Laura to be a couple and mentioned she liked nerdy guys in real life. Kellie's husband is a tech company CEO, so I can believe that lol.
Exactly. A lot of fans didn't understand why Stefan and Myra were needed in the first place. They were meant to give Laura and Steve an ideal significant other they can be with.
@@qxujevozaeni1240 No sir, like Laura said, they have feelings...just like these thoughtless jerks who think catfishing people is fun...it's not, it's cruel and mean. :(
Yup! I'd even say they had some of the best chemistry in TV history. The writers knew what they were doing when they revamped the show to feature them more.
Laura may have found Steve annoying and may have preferred his alter personae Stefan Uquelle, but he was the only guy who was genuine in his feelings for her. Every other guy she dated was a jerk in some form. He may have been nerdy, but he didn’t give up on her no matter how many times she rejected him. He stuck out for her when she needed it, and she stuck out for him when he needed it. Eventually, the two of them did wind up together and I doubt Laura regrets it. Because despite his quirkiness, she understood that underneath that nerdy exterior is the kind of man she always wanted, no matter how much she tried to deny it.
It was said if season 10 would’ve aired Steve and Stefan would’ve fused back together again making Steve more mature and Laura ends up getting pregnant with a girl
Laura said it all in the final scene of this wonderful video when she said that Steve was the one guy who always treated her like a queen. And the look on Steve's face from 21:19 till the end of the video shows how he always had and always would feel about her. Sidenote: The writers picked the perfect song for their dance.
Yes, as I rewatch these episodes on HBOMax I realize it really was a sweet slow progression of her feelings for him. He became a great friend and then much more.
Exactly! Rewatching the show allows you to see the growth of their relationship. Laura falling for Steve in season 9 was in the works throughout the entire show. It wasn't forced or unexpected at all.
My favorite moment from these two was when Steve ruin prom when he brought Myra to the event, set off the sprinkler, and then he explain his vintage mess up and they hug at the end of the episode.
The way Laura looked at Steve at the prom, is the way a girl looks at the man she loves. In that moment, on that balcony, she was in love with Steve. They never followed up that episode with an explanation, until season 9. There are earlier episodes where Laura couldn’t hide her feelings for him. People were too busy listening to what she was saying and ignoring her body language and actions. She liked Steve from day one, but couldn’t date him because she wanted to be popular. The reason why she was so intense with her rejections was because she was betraying her own heart.
I wish we had woman like Kellie Shanygne Williams (Laura )JoMarie Payton(Harriet) Lori Loughlin (Becky in Full House),who weren't afraid to call boys and men out on their crap and nonsense
Thank you for uploading this. A lot of people who have seen this show (in passing),think Laura treated Steve poorly all the time. That is FALSE. She absolutely cared about Steve,it’s just that for many years she wasn’t ROMANTICALLY interested in him. She was always there for him. 💡
wish they would of continue with just one more season family matters or at less see steve and laura getting married that would have been the perfect ending
@@shanehaughton6912 no cause first of all Myra and Steve had no real chemistry between each other other than the fact they were both nerds stop it same qualities don’t make good chemistry
@@starryeyednostalgia7503 all she wanted Steve to do was better himself and they both grew as a couple they were soulmates when they were kids is just didn’t look like it at first because they had to grow and mature
Watching these clips send me back to my childhood memories, I love this comedy..Laura is really indeed a great friend to Steve and she love him.....Steve indeedly treats her a real QUEEN 👸..
I’ll never get tired of seeing this. Laura was my absolute favorite. If God blesses me with a daughter, I would want her to be like this. She was strong , independent, genuinely a good girl and a great friend plus she was smart and responsible. I also don’t get all is this shallow talk because I can remember Laura could have had any guy she wanted but she refused to settle. She literally dumped a guy because he didn’t want her to be friends with Steve. Let’s face it Steve was annoying, possessive and invasive at times. His behavior was only deemed sweet because he would have never actually physical hurt Laura. I also hate that people down play Laura’s beauty as if she wasn’t a whole baddie out here in these streets. Myra was a nutcase from the beginning. I hate what they did with her character.
This is why Steve and Laura deserve each other. Steve will defend Laura’s honor, no matter what, even at the cost of being bullied or humiliated by others. He also always respected Laura and her personal space, even when he gets the “hands” reminder if he put his hand on Laura’s shoulder, he’d quickly remove his hand and apologize. Whenever Steve is bullied, picked on or disrespected, Laura will stand up for him.
As a little African boy, you can't imagine how much this show marked my childhood🥺. Steve is so awesome and so endearing. I didn't understand the reality of the world at 9 or 10 years old but watching this show was such a pleasure. Laura is always so beautiful😍. I was so in love with her and her personality that sometimes I felt like this family really existed. I wish I continued to believe growing up that the world was as happy and beautiful as it was in this series. Forever my favorite childhood series. Thank you very much for creating it. 🥲🥲🙇🏽♂❤❤❤
A very nice compilation of videos. There are some comments that I do agree with... Laura did value Steve's friendship although it was never really highlighted because fans of the show thought that Steve was better off with Myra instead of Laura. Truth is, she really cared about Steve and was the only one that stood up for him, whether it's against her family, friends at school, or strangers. It took her a while to realize that Steve was perfect for her as is.
People often forget that Myra played an important role in Steve's life. She was the one who taught him to respect people's personal space by having him endure life as the Winslows in being stalked relentlessly and invading his personal space. Myra took it a step further by forcibly having sex with Steve in his locker and spying on him by drawing him naked in his room. He learned a hard lesson and realized how annoying he was to everyone in general. Steve accepted that he had a lot of growing up to do and started to mature. Once he agreed to go steady with Myra in the end of season 6's Paradise Bluff, she calmed down considerably and started maturing as well. She started being friends with Laura and her group of friends. Steve became less attached to the Winslows because Myra was keeping him distracted from his family issues
I always knew for watching that entire series that deep down Laura always loved Steve back and always had feelings for him, but she at first just could never admit it because she felt embarrassed just being seen with urkel bc of his nerdy and clumsy personality. I’m just glad she overcame that in the end and the two got married
I agree with your views. It really was wonderful seeing Laura mature over the years. To understand Laura, you must pay attention to her actions and not her words. She always came through for Steve when he needed it most. Just as we saw Steve come through for her. That give and take between them is what made them great to watch.
They got married? Its obvious that she had feelings for steve because she was in love with stephan. Stephan was basically steve without glasses and nerdiness.
I LOVE these clothes the actors are wearing. I used to watch every episode when I was a kid, and now looking back on it, those clothes are sweet!! Especially that blue jacket that Eddie has on.
@@thaddeusskywalker5293 yea Carl was alright but i don’t think the show survives without those two it’s public record that the show would’ve flopped without Jaleel himself that’s why certain people from the cast Harriet didn’t like that cause it was supposed to be her show it just didn’t work out that way
Steve could rival Gomez Addams with how he treated the lady of his life. Steve was nerdy but also very smooth with his lines lol one of the most wholesome characters in all of television
Although she didn't see him as someone to date when they were minors, Laura and Steve were good friends and stuck up for one another when needed. I was a teen in the 90's and Laura and Steve crushed it in those days.
This is a show I've watched in full maybe 7 times. I watched it when it first came out in French and just finished it again last month. Can't get enough
You've forgot to put when Steve is learning to swim and comes Laura and falls to the water in order to pretend she's in danger for him to save her for him to forget his fear at water
Memories….love this collection of scenes from Family Matters. I reminisce on the Friday nights when I stayed up late to watch TGIF. Family Matters was always first. So cool to see them as children and as a couple in their adulthood.
I'm really happy you enjoyed it. Your comment definitely resonates because I also remember how great it was to watch TGIF. I always made sure I was in front of the TV by 8pm for Family Matters. Those were the days!
She always liked Steve - she just found him annoying. Additionally, as a teenaged girl, he didnt really physically fit the look of what she thought a boyfriend should be. Glad she used wisdom in the end.
Watching a video like this brings hope. When she says she loves him, and kisses him, it shows how loving a heart can be, it's the best kind of magic, soft and teary eyed.
I love it. Every scene is an example of Laura learning, knowing, and appreciating the value of SUBSTANCE over STYLE
Compare this to the degeneracy on TV today....
Laura cared more for Steve more than she realized.
You mean after years of dogging him😂😂😂
This might be corny but only thing left would have been a possible great wedding between Steve and Laura.
I think Family Matters was Steven Quincy Urkel hands down.
She always took advantage of Steve

Glad she finally realized she loved Steve.
Steve and Laura did a lot of growing up and maturing, which was the point of Stefan and Myra
The problem with Myra was how psychotic, possessive, jealous, immature, overbearing and a commitment control freak she is. At one point, Steve was attracted to her mainly because of how sweet she was to him and accepted him as he is. After showing off those negative traits, he was put off Myra permanently. She is arrested for framing Laura along with her spying on him with illegal surveillance gear
Although upset by their break up, Stefan kept this promise once he learned that Laura accepted Steve's proposal at the end of Pop Goes the Question. He decides that he will look for his special someone and get to know his relatives instead. When Myra learned about Steve and Laura's engagement, she continue carrying the torch into Lost in Space.

We ALL can use a friend like Laura, who genuinely cares about people who can't stand up for themselves. That's what I love about her. "Family Matters" will ALWAYS remain a favorite show of mine!
I totally agree. What made Laura so great is that she also stood up for Steve when he wasn't in the room. That is how you know you have a true friend.
Could start by being a friend like Laura.

You know what's funny is Steve was never supposed to be a reoccurring character but the audience loved him so much, he ended up owning the show.
Facts 💯 I know his back had to be hurting from carrying all those seasons, but it paid off in the end
@@DrezzyEFTP his back ?
@@ladyfire44 then why he became popular along with Bart Simpson at that time ?
They changed his appearance to being a nerd at White's request. This made Urkel an icon for nerds. Bart was already popular for his rebelliousness, but he was a hidden genius inside and was good at detecting bad guys.
He used to always say “I’m wearing you down baby. IM WEARING YOU DOWWWNNN!!!” No truer words have ever been spoken. It was great seeing him finally win with her after all those years of “losing.” Appreciate the time & effort you put into this video & part 2 as well.
Thank you so much for the amazing compliment! It means more than you know.
I believe that is the reason he was meant to use that line so much, supposedly, Steve and Laura were meant to be together by the end of the show.
It's when he stopped TRYING so damn hard, and she just let him be himself, that's when it started.
She and Steve had a lot of growing up to do, which was the point of Stefan and Myra. They were meant to give Laura and him an ideal significant other to be with.
In Steve's case, Myra was his ideal woman. He was originally attracted to her mainly because of how sweet she was to him and accepted him as he is. After showing off those negative traits at the end of Buds 'n' Buns, Steve was put off Myra permanently. A lot of people forget that she played an important role in his life and maturing. I say this because had Myra not been introduced in midway season 4, it would've been a different story.
She was more mindful in being careful in who she dated and get to know the person first because looks can be very deceiving. By this time he had already completed the challenge by creating boss sauce(to help maintain Steve's compassion and tone down the narcissistic traits) and a transformation chamber to cut down on the rashes for sensitive parts of his body(which was from the side effects to his Cool Juice).

@@starryeyednostalgia7503 This is very well put and sums up my thoughts exactly 😭
A lot of people forget that she played an important role in his life and maturing. I say this because had Myra not been introduced in midway season 4, it would've been a different story.
@@starryeyednostalgia7503 That scene I absolute loved

I hope nobody really did "geek parties" like this. That would be BEYOND cruel.
I know right?!
Throwing a party for geeks to make fun of them isn't a bad deal provided the geeks aren't actually physically harmed nor the ridicule too severe.
@@qxujevozaeni1240 No sir, like Laura said, they have feelings...just like these thoughtless jerks who think catfishing people is fun...it's not, it's cruel and mean. :(

Kellie and Jaleel had some great chemistry in this show
Yup! I'd even say they had some of the best chemistry in TV history. The writers knew what they were doing when they revamped the show to feature them more.
I died when Steve put his foot down towards Eddie
& when he gasped when the Conrad came, because the gasp was SO dramatic 😂😂😂😂
Myra would've ended up with a reformed Cornelius. Steve finally confronting his parents for how they treated him,
@@ladyfire44 They would have had to recast Myra :(
Lark Voorhies would've replaced Myra eventually.

Laura said it all in the final scene of this wonderful video when she said that Steve was the one guy who always treated her like a queen. And the look on Steve's face from 21:19 till the end of the video shows how he always had and always would feel about her. Sidenote: The writers picked the perfect song for their dance.
Agreed
Yes, as I rewatch these episodes on HBOMax I realize it really was a sweet slow progression of her feelings for him. He became a great friend and then much more.
Exactly! Rewatching the show allows you to see the growth of their relationship. Laura falling for Steve in season 9 was in the works throughout the entire show. It wasn't forced or unexpected at all.
My favorite moment from these two was when Steve ruin prom when he brought Myra to the event, set off the sprinkler, and then he explain his vintage mess up and they hug at the end of the episode.
Yes! I love that hugging scene between Steve and Laura. There are so many more scenes that could have been added.
After all these years, I still cry 😭.
Thanks for posting this 🤗
You're welcome. 😊
I loved they chemistry it was so beautiful 😍✨

I wish every woman could be just like Laura. Bless her heart.
Facts especially in today's world
I’ll never get tired of seeing this.
Facts
They were made for each other.
Glad Laura saw how much Steve loved her even though it took her 15 years to come around.
Too bad it took that long 😏
This is why Steve and Laura deserve each other.
I love it when Laura supported Steve in _Family Matters._ I thought it was very powerful and nice. They really cared for each other.
What a beautiful comment. Thank you for sharing about your love for the show. Take care!
@@starryeyednostalgia7503 Thanks ❤
