Thanks Jim. This is always a good one for me and I have found is helpful for many players on a variety of shots from pitching through to driver.

Hi Ian, what kind of driver are you rockin' there? It looks real nice.

Hi Ian, can you recommend a fix for my long irons which starts off straight and fades, so it always ends up right of target. My swing pattern for all my clubs is a fade, even my woods and driver, except the 4, 5 & 6 irons... so frustrating!!

Hi Louie, I think a long irons video is over due so thank you for a great suggestion. It is likely you are just a touch steep on them leading to the face being a touch open at impact. Does this sound like it could be what is happening?

@@IanMellorGolf That sounds about right. What ‘feeling’ or ‘sensation’ would flatten a long iron compared to the feeling of a shorter iron? Love your content, from down under in Australia 👍

I tend to hit all of my irons open, which either end up with a push or a fade. I moved the ball up on my stance by about an inch or so and I've noticed huge difference already!

This feels like it's about a standard OTT slice, not a push slice.

Over the top doesn’t cause a slice, it’s actually called a reverse slot swing path. There are three acceptable swing paths: Reverse slot, single plane, or the most advertised out and under (the opposite of reverse slot). All three can produce a slice, from grip/stance/rotation errors. I use reverse slot, and have a strong grip with 10 finger locking technique… I slice if my trail leg is behind my lead leg mismatched to my line and shoulders, or if my trail elbow comes in too close to my body on the downswing. I’ve been trying to find the source of my slice everywhere… but this video nails it and I would have never came to this conclusion if not for this video. It’s weird, because everyone says if you slice make your grip stronger… but I already use a strong grip, and nobody could explain how this still happens because the majority of players don’t strong grip. After this video I was able to implement the correction and see instant results, I’m now at my longest drive ever a few days ago, 341 yard straight drive just 38 yards short of the hole on a PAR 4 with an easy pitch and run for Eagle. 🦅 Funny thing is, I gained 40 yards just by hitting straighter… and it wasn’t my fastest swing. Sorry for the rant but, my point is over the top is the most natural way to swing the club, but nobody teaches it… it’s not the problem, this problem is as this gentlemen explains it, if all else is correct in your swing.
