Yes. But… this is actually one of my favorite things about Kingdom Hearts. It can go from being super serious to super silly in a heartbeat. One minute you’re playing mini games with Winnie the Pooh. The next you’re fighting to the death against Sephiroth.
Donald and goofy are constant reminders that you're playing a disney game but you get so used to it that you dont really think of them as disney characters, rather as kingdom hearts characters. But when i first saw the kh1+2 secret endings and mickey showed up, i laughed. Such a jarring change in tone. As you have stated, that is one of the things that make kingdom hearts special. Tbh, im not really surprised, I was gonna do another vid about the duality of the series but I made this vid really quickly and mickey mouse showing up (especially the door to darkness scene) showcases this well. It can go from hanging out with winnie the pooh to having a life or death battle with your best friend (seems to happen quite a bit in the series).
3 games technically(2, Fractions, and Re:3 {a teensy bit [although I guess technically you’re playing as Sora’s ghost peeping on him]}) He’s also a guest party member in 3 other games. (I count 0.2 and MoM as half a game each)
My biggest immersion breaker because of Disney Characters was when you finally save Aqua, Sora says "you're home" with a warm voice and right after that Donald and Goofy are screaming at me "YOU'RE HOME"
I got attached enough to Mickey’s arc with Riku in Re:CoM (and spammed his combos enough) that I got the Donald/Goofy effect with him. I also played Ven and Aqua a lot. Honestly my biggest problem is the voice direction. Too deep and slow and tired in serious scenes. Mickey’s official actor *is* capable of emotional range even if he isn’t often called on for it, but only in the most optimistic of circumstances does he sound like himself.
when i was younger, i loved the disney stuff, and then i started wishing that i could have kh minus all the disney stuff. now, i think the disney stuff is essential and i would never want it gone
Returning to the first game after 13 years. It has been a great journey for the inner child and having those characters really adds a lot. Even if it's kinda absurd!
Im not gonna lie, seeing Mickey stand alone against 13 seekers of darkness at the end of Remind got me feelin shit, like pretty up there in terms of emotional investment.
They used the same animation for when you get to play as mickey in KH2. I find that cool. I haven't played days, but I'm pretty sure that Mickey doesn't show up in that scene. I just know that Mickey has a scene with Riku in Days. The KH2 secret ending shows the end of BBS with just a few minor differences. That KH1 ending is probably the one time where his appearance doesn't pay off as much, lore wise. Still cool.

If a heartless is 'killed' without the power of light they just get revived again later. With how connected to darkness Xehanort is it wouldn't be surprising if the same apply to him.

A close contender could be Maleficent appearing after Saix's monologue. You get this intense monologue finally revealing Organization XIII's goal from one of the main villains of the game, only for Maleficent to come in and you're like "Oh right, this is a Disney game."
Ah, yes. Kingdom Hearts. The series that will have poignant moments in one second, but then suddenly have Goofy be a bystander during said scene the next second. 😀
It's honestly why I loved his appearance in KH1 the most since it didn't feel like it was shoe-horned in forcefully. Plus,we've never seen him throughout the entire game until at that very moment in the end of the game which just adds to the *BIG SURPRISE* of seeing Mickey,THE Mickey Mouse helping Sora seal Kingdom Hearts. He even has his own Kingdom Key variant. It's just my personal take on it.I don't exactly hate how he's always there in every game.I'm just saying that KH1's minimal use of Mickey just made him feel much cooler,impactful and special,y'know? Aqua is stuck for at least 10 years without Mickey having a clue about it. Sora is 15 in KH2+KH3. A lot of Xehanort shenanigans happened in 1 or 2 years. So no time to save Aqua. It would've been dangerous for him to go in alone too. If anything Nomura "forgot". Aqua did not exist in KH1-KH2, which is why she isn't mentioned. In KH2FM there is a cutscene referencing her but that's it. In summary bro did not know she was down there for 10 years until KH1 and didn't have time to help because of KH1-KH3 happening in just 2 years. (Sora is 16 in the KH3 secret episode)
The birth by sleep secret ending plays out like a long joke if you watch it till the end. My ex girlfriend thought it was hilarious when, after that huge epic battle, mickey mouse is seen watching the battle from the distance.
I'll never be able to take any of the serious moments seriously every time a Disney character is on screen and the characters pretentiously spam the word 'Darkness' dramatically.
And then they introduced mickey emblems in KH3. I didn't include this in the video, but in the Keyblade Graveyard in BBS there is a mickey mouse shaped crater.

The title is click/comment bait(it is somewhat true for someone who's first experience of kh was kh2 secret ending). I like Mickey Mouse in KH. Disney characters/stories in KH doesn't hold this series back. The Disney worlds usually teach the KH characters a lesson or give abilities like Peter Pan's flight. Even though KH is a game with Disney characters fighting, they did not allow a fighting game because of violence. Square made Dissidia instead. But then they let Sora in Smash. I'd say that's the only way this franchise has been held back.
Btw it's not confirmed if it was Disney or Nomura that didn't allow this. But the fact is, it's related to Disney. That's the reason the game couldn't be made and FF Dissidia was made instead.

Days is also my favorite They actually used the Disney characters in a way that seemed much more meaningful than in the rest of the series Roxas, being relatively empty as a person at the time, was actually learning a lot from them even from a distance, which made it kind of exciting, "what new development will he get from this?" Meanwhile all the other protagonists were more like... Projecting their issues on them in a children's book moral of the story kind of way, kinda annoying

I've said this in another comment. You are with Donald and Goofy the entire game. To me that makes them feel more like KH characters than disney. This video is more like if I introduced you to kh for the first time by showing you the kh2 secret ending. By the end you'd be confused as to why mickey mouse is there. Most of his appearances are cool enough to have you know that there is a difference between (Disney) Mickey Mouse and (Kingdom Hearts) King Mickey. You'll get used to him just like Donald and goofy.
