    My favorite part of this video is when Bo sings about the post to her Mum in heaven. The aspect ratio opens up from the instagram 1x1 to a wider shot. Reminding us that behind all the staged posts with well though out lighting, shadows and intricately placed items there's a real person. A real person with real feelings, emotions and vulnerabilities and occasionally we get a glimpse of that. There's always a deeper meaning in Bo's songs

    I guess you don't have to specify a girl for this song to be attributed to, but I feel like the relationship between the 27 years old balloons and the part where Bo talks about "it's been 10 years since you been gone" and "give a hug and kiss to dad" is Bo explaining that the girl who is reaching out for attention has lost both of her parents by the time she was 17. That always gets to me.

      @@seandan7873 I mean I know why - It's because you have the capacity for sympathy and empathy. I'm sure this imaginary person managed to get past this terrible time in their life and grew up alright anyway - based on their own story in the song lyrics - but it's a good thing that you feel something.
      I know I did. Partially because I related to it, but I think all of us should empathize at least somewhat - even if it is just a somewhat silly comedy song :)

      @davidace7514 Рік тому +5

      the capacity to empathize with a fictional person is important, because real people that have no material impact on your life often have their lives affected by your ability to consider them, and as far as your empathy works, you have to construct their situation in your head to empathize with them - it's intellectually the same exercise. if you lack this capacity I think you're kind of broken a bit@@Zabiru-

    When you start this song you think he's making fun of "basic" white women. When you really watch and listen to it, you realize it's a love letter to "basic" white women. His fake instagram posts had genuine love and care put into them, the composition on some of them is staggeringly good, and the story about the woman's mom in the middle makes it clear what he's doing. I love Bo

      That really makes me think about why I love this song a bit more. Bo had no reason to be this good at making the actual shots in this video. He's doing femme and nailing it as hard as possible while being haha funny joke about it while making legitimately really well shot and well composed and well lit shots
      For me at least a lot of these despite being meant to poke fun are also unironically actually really impressive and filled with a kinda weird in a good way amount of effort where it seemed like Bo just took pictures he wanted to take in those precious 2020 lockdown months and found enough theme to put it together into a special. "Haha I tricked you into looking at my legitimate artwork with sarcastic lampshading"

      It's funny that because of what the point is (that people expressing vapid, self-centered, or constructed pictures of themselves online for other people doesn't make them less real or important), calling people out for "not getting it" like you are doing is probably a worse version of "not getting it".
      Bo has made it pretty clear before that he cares that people enjoy his work more than if they get it. I love diving in and paying close attention and analyzing his stuff. But that's because that's how I enjoy his content.
      When I watch a Bo Burnham reaction, all I really want is to see the enjoyment on people's faces. Some like to dive in like me. Some don't. They all are consuming his work the way that he intended.

    I think a lot of people have caught on to the fact that Bo's comedy usually shows us something comedy isn't really supposed to show us. He has a lot of open criticisms of social media and how it cripples the way we communicate, affects our mental health, etc. I would say if you like "Welcome to the Internet," I would say maybe think about this song in the context of that one. This song is about a person who all we get to see at first is the curated instagram posts, but much like the rest of us she is a complex human with struggles and triumphs and everything else. We get a glimpse of that mid song, and maybe the type of person this woman wants to project herself as (someone her mom would be proud of, maybe, someone who perseveres and has a good life despite loss and hardship). I actually think this is one of my favorite songs of his, because he's not being overt with the messaging but it's there subtextually. He's not even really mocking the posts except maybe once or twice (like he uses the word "derivative" at one point), but otherwise he's just listing the types of posts you see and copying them in a way that's comedic. But yeah, I think social media isn't the best way to communicate and understand who people are. That's kind of what I got out of the song.

      Most if not all of Inside is about social media to some extent, and the pandemic lockdown and how it affected people's socializing via the internet in particular. And there's his personal story woven in there too obvious (as far as we know anyway - he's a good actor), but Bo has pretty strong opinions on social media as a societal phenomenon generally and he illustrates it beautifully in Inside :)

    • @matthewgilbert9881
      @matthewgilbert9881 Рік тому +1

      I feel like this song often gets short thrift because people don’t look at the subtext. Like, what in this woman’s life makes posting about her own tragedy seem necessary, while using that tragedy to show off her accomplishments on social media.
      The most I’ve heard a reactor say is that it’s supposed to show that this woman is a person like us with a real life. I don’t know most people don’t seem to look deeper in this song, when he is so explicitly intentional with his messaging in all of his songs (except really his really early stuff).

    I never comment on videos on youtube but this song is the very first one that made me change my judgement of others. When I first heard this song I was enjoying it for the stereotypical white women on instagram joke with the 'basic' label that is easily attached and I have always thought that way in a disdainful manner. But the message I got from this song when it mention the mother and father who have passed away is that we dont know why people post what they do online and therefore it is wrong to always judge it. I will admit I will continue to judge other things unfairly because I am not perfect but this song changed my views for the better for at least this subject which is very profound for a self professed man stuck in his ways.

    Can't stand Bo. The big difference between Tim Minchin and Bo Burnham (asides from Tim being leagues better at songwriting/performing) is that Bo is just attacking people because he doesn't like them, whereas Tim will go after their flawed logic, or the dangers of what it causes rather than simply because he happens to not like a type of person. Everytime I try to give Bo a chance I just walk away disappointed and actually a bit upset that they even put Tim and Bo in the same boat.

      Not to call you stupid but did you even listen to this song, or any of his recent material? The end/middle takeaway from the song was the white woman's instagram was not an accurate depiction of her life, that she was a normal person like anyone else who misses her mother and her parents, who's getting married etc. Poking fun at the pictures white women in general tend to post on their instas is not 'going after people', it's light hearted fun.
