Correction. At the time I made this video I didn't know who made the pedals and assumed they were assembled in the PRS factory. They are made by Cusack Music for PRS.
I love Cusack Music! Stompboxparts is one of my go toos!
$350 for a flanger…!? It better time machine me back to the 80s and make me 18 years old again for that price
But it says Prs on it..lol
True . But I went to the market a few hours ago and dropped 120 for drinks and some food. If we wanna pay our workers what theyre worth and what price should be. We gotta start sucking some of that Jeff bezos money on down to the people !
and throw in the hot girl from the mtv video too - lol.
I say the same thing about Eventide, Strymon, and Fractal stuff.
@@TheCyberMantis But Eventide, Strymon and Fractal can be argued as the best in class. These aren't.
Man Phil your honesty is what keeps me coming back to your channel. You’re refreshing bro…don’t change that
For a high end guitar company that prides itself on beautiful art guitars with refined tone, they’ve made a bunch of Cold War iron curtain black boxes.
Regardless of one’s opinion on the pedal, I find it funny Paul named it “horse meat” because it “eats Centaurs for breakfast” 🤘🏻😅🔥🍽🍖
I think they are OK nothing groundbreaking here, I checked the price on The Horsemeat, and at $249.00 I will take a pass. Good review as always though!
It's very high in protein!
Man, I'm envious of that sweet Parker.
The only guitar that was so good it was endorsed by a drummer!
I don't see why anyone would want a PRS pedal, with all the pedal-dedicated companies out there with *much* cheaper offerings, and a proven track record. But to each their own.
Mary Cries - The wind cries… Mary. Maybe? 🤷♂️
Yeah, Im gonna say this is one of PRS's few big misses imo. I'm usually a PRS fanboy, but these definitely don't really reach out at me. Im all for weird pedal names (Big Muff still makes me chuckle), but the names here are kinda weird. They don't really roll off the tongue well, but they also don't make a ton of sense. Plus, I do think they look kinda bland. Compare it to Fender's cool brushed annozided pedals, or Gibson's aggressive 70s vibe. They all kinda look the same, but also look pretty plain compared to the color selection of Boss's lineup. The prices are what really killed me though. They sound cool and the features are nice, but they just don't present enough to make me want to purchase them. Maybe I'm just not the prime demographic, but I just feel these sorta missed the mark.
I totally agree not impressed at all.
Agreed. Couldn't have said it better myself. Love PRS guitars (4 of the 10 I own are PRS) and am an avid pedal collector. Yet despite those two facts, I am rather underwhelmed by these and am finding it very difficult to get excited about them. Unless I see them at a massive discount (we're talking like 50% off) I'm probably gonna have to pass.
Your reviews are always the best, i always know exactly what i'm getting into with your description and finally thoughts....thanks phil
Mary cries after looking at those pedal prices
Real or not, that was a nice clear demo using the pedals in a practical way making usable sounds. Some pedal reviewers take the “dime everything” approach and never explore the subtle aspects of the pedals. You do, and that is why your channel is my “go to” for gear reviews. And you seem like someone it would be cool to chill and have a beer with.
Paul Smith repeatedly called the flanger a “studio tool” during the announcement…but it doesn’t even have stereo capabilities. Kinda blows my mind that they didn’t consider this - especially considering the fact that the pedal houses two separate flanger circuits! Huge missed opportunity imo
Actually he said it is studio grade quality and could pass for an insert FX, but if you go back and pay attention he says it belongs on a board with a switch to be played live. Stereo flanging live is not such a great thing.
distortion, and compressor needs stereo? LOL
Never rely on a GUITAR brand to innovate the world of GUITAR PEDALS.
Who gives a shit about stereo? Like 95% of the guitarists out there don’t even use it, the other 5% are worship guitarists and they only buy shit that says Strymon on it anyway.
Maybe it's because PRS know that it's incredibly rare for a producer to actually utilise a true stereo output from a pedal. I've literally never heard it on an album. It just muddies up the mix and dominates the stereo spectrum. Stereo pedals are basically a gimmick if you're actually recording music that people listen to.
Thanks for always being truthful in your demos
WHOA who thought you’d get them so quickly! I love it thanks for the video as always :)
I actually said “oh no” after you said the flanger is your favorite because it’s just so expensive but easily looks like my fav. Of the three
Ahhh that was a beautiful moment playing Bother. Wow that sounded nice
Phil appreciate your method and process for the review. This too was a good one. Liked your take on how to use the pedal. Especially the compressor.
A larger version of horsemeat is in development. It’s called…whalemeat but it’s going to be prohibited in many countries 🤣
Phil, very good review, you are the man to do things like this!! Sounds were cool
Phil, you are the best! Thank you.
Who else heard the intro to "Better call Saul" when he played the first chord on the flanger.?
Me for sure! Lol
Great Job Phil. I hear what you're saying on the size of the pedals, but I have to be honest I like the bigger footprint. The mini/smaller pedals are great for more filling your board with more options, but there's something about having a bigger housing where you know you're only going to step on the one you want lol.
More useless huge boxes.
Smaller pedals with Elephant Foot Risers works best.
Great demo and great playing
This is your best video title yet :) Good stuff and interesting gear
Oooh! Stone Sour - Bother! Good one!
Awesome review, my man! Cheers! 👍🏻
that wind through the trees sounds sick!
Hey Phil!!😁👍
Thank you for All You Do!🥰
Mike in San Diego.🌞🎸🚀🖖
Excellent. We got pedals that convey the sound of PRS guitars as accurately as possible. It is surprising that the company allowed its instruments to sound completely different from what was planned. Manufacturing technology, wood and varnish, components, strings and pickups. Even the amplifiers have been thought out in this long chain of creating an authentic PRS sound. But any pedal or processor took us away from what Mr. Paul Red Smith heard in his dreams. We are waiting for a delay and a reverb. Bravo.
cant even focus on the pedals because the guitar looks so effin sweet! OMG!
That Flanger is impressive!
Loved the review
I’ve only one question
Have you tried the horse meat pedal through a high gain amp,? like a ts style setting?
Rainbow Guitars has all three in stock on their website as of a couple of hours ago
I've always loved flanging & hate phasing, so good on you, PRS(!)
Stone Sour. I see you're a man of culture.
Don't know about these. Not really excited for any of them. I will be getting the MXR Duke of Tone though!
@@fibonacho 😂 It's better than tree frog.
The dual flanger pedal reminds me of the Walrus Eons. The common factor: reviewers faces all light up when they try it! There's a difference between a normal review for a decent product and the way a person looks when they can't believe how cool the product is they're looking at!
There's a ton of compressors and "transparent" overdrives on the market already, so that's a tough place to get marketshare. That flanger does something different though. I don't know that it's for everyone, but it's going to have a definite market. I love flanger, and love my ThorpyFX Camoflanger, but I think this might be my next pedal. There are just a ton of sounds in there.
I enjoyed the demo and think is a good representation of them. The flanger interests me but also makes want to go pump the Frostbite through my Archon and Kingsgate pair.
Kingsnake. Danged autotypo.
A bit off topic but after 25 years I like strats now.
😂 I’ve had a few. They’re ok. I’ve always been more of a Les Paul guy. But a good strat is a must.
I thought I was being punked when I received the email announcement too considering the names used. Still sounded great. Thanks for the demo.
The compressor is improving the sound. I like it.
Compressor sounds like one I'd actually use. I've always struggled with making the most of a compressor and generally fall back to the "boost plus a bit of comp" which this seems to do very well.
Folks whining about the prices must not see the cost of other boutique US brands… especially since most of those are using PCB s & not through hole assembly these days.
Folks complaining about PRS Maryland made guitars must not own one or notice what Fender is charging for MIM models now, or the cost of the latest Epiphones.
People complaining about the names must not have noticed all the other ridiculous pedal names for the last 50 years. Big Muff, Swollen Pickle, AquaPuss, Super Hardon, Camel Toe.. and on & on..
Everyone is talking about them. It’s excellent marketing. They’re going to sell as many as they want to make.
To make compressor on my board you have to replace an SP - the size and layout of that thing is ill considered (at best)
What kind of guitar is that sea foam green and white single cut?
In the days when it was invented, flanger was referred to as "wind tunnel effect". Small Faces' song "Itchycoo Park" is one of the earliest songs where it is used to twist the whole soundscape.
Your opinion and Josh's are the only ones I care
Great content 👏👏
Love the compressor, sounds nice. I'd like to hear up against some other boutique type compressors.
Wave soldering is a perfectly legit process, yeah you can probably get a little more life out of through-board soldering, but just about ALL electronics these days are wave soldered. It really is a genius process, if you've never seen how it's done you should check out a video. But I guess PRS is going for that "hand this down to your grandson some day" kind of lifespan? But I do legit think you can have that kind of longevity with wave soldering, and it's SO much less expensive.
Being honest here. I have a horrible time remembering names. However I haven’t forgotten these since i heard them yesterday lol. I like them. Very classy look too imo.
Can’t wait for the PRS take on Delay and Reverb. Whatever they get into, they do it right and deliver quality.
There's already a million of those pedals. If you haven't found one you like you never will or you just wanna buy something because it says PRS?
The names are a little silly but all the pedals seem to sound great! Probably not my cup of tea per say but I dig them for what they can do!
You're not a sucker...In Phil We Trust.
Another pedal manufacturer? I love PRS but come on, how many choices do we need? Must be a passion project for Mr. Paul....
I'm curious where PRS came up with those names for those pedals? it sounds like they got one of their employees to drop some acid. and start tossing out some names. and being as I mentioned acid. the upper part of that flanger would be really good for some 60s Psychedelic Rock music. or your right you are being punked by PRS.
Personally I reckon PRS and Orange have missed the boat (or pedalo) with their recent pedals. Especially at the price point they’re targeting. They’re offering nothing new in a crowded marketplace.
Thanks ...!..time to look for a used compressor..(mxr)..
That Keisel Guitar is a beast, wow what a full sound!! That single coil neck tone with the overdrive is so fat!!!
PRS everything is great don’t get me wrong but they are like a fine wine… the Bota box wine 🍷 does it just fine for me with a fresh glass leftover for tomorrow!
Paul is a HUGE Hendrix fan, so I can understand his naming convention for the first two pedals. Not sure about horsemeat XD.
With the current FX market being saturated with plugins and FX boards, I only see these pedals being tailored to a niche crowd, who probably already invested in boutique pedals at this point.
No one under the age of 25 is going to buy pedals anymore. You just plug into your pc and have everything under the sun for free.
Wind cries Mary is a great song
Firrst I have heard of PRS pedals. I like them in spite of their...uh...unique names. Good demo, Phil.
Horses taste delicious 😋
Hi Poo Ninja, I want ask how you know. Lol
@@PhillipMcKnight IKEA secret meatball recipe. 🤫
Edit:
We didn’t know! We didn’t know!!
Kinda reminds me of the old voodoo labs pedals, same housings and jack layout.
I thought it was a case of " the emperor's new clothes " first couple of reviews for the horsemeat [ including your's ] as soon as I heard the distortion I didn't think it sounded particularly good. A bit buzzy with a ragged quality is what first stood out to me [ I don't think he used the magic diodes ] I'm guessing like the klone & MXR Dist+ that it's diodes to ground for hard clipping. The studio rats is another good review of it. It does have some interesting sounds, almost fuzzy with the distortion cranked. Anyone remember the MXR MC402 Boost/Overdrive ? Don't know how that one made it to market. Take care!
Nice Hendrixian riffing bro! love it. not the price.
Did you hear any kind of noise with the prs mary cries?
6:40 sounds like a homage to Pretty Little Ditty by RHCP 🤟
Man they look huge. Why have they gone for such large profiles? The price is very on point for PRS....ouch.
I was hoping for a S2 or SE DGT instead of pedals...
Phil had already "hinted" on the q&a the dgt isn't this year, cuz it's not on the list of product launches he's been invited to review but can't tell us about yet lol.
Yeah. I stopped paying more than 120$ for a pedal years ago. There’s very few pedals worth more than 100$. If you have a great amp, you don’t need but a few pedals anyways. The pedal market has gotten bloated with overpriced, pretentious garbage. But there are a few gems out there. But most aren’t worth half the money they’re asking. Just my opinion. Not that these pedals were bad. They seemed pretty nice. But not worth the coin.
So what are some of the gems in your opinion?
Totally agree. I own a prs guitar because they set themselves apart from other manufacturers by making an excellent guitar. But as you mentioned, there are so many budget or mid priced pedals out there that work just as good as high end priced ones. I'll save my money and put it towards a new prs guitar!
@@silent-trouble that’s pretty subjective. But a lot of the Boss and MXR pedals are great . And can be had for reasonable coin. There’s a lot of super cheap pedals out there that perform surprisingly well too. Even some of the cheap Behringer pedals 15-20$ are absolutely mind boggling for the money. But there’s a bunch of pedals between 50-120$ that are pretty amazing. It just doesn’t make sense to drop a few hundred bucks on a pedal , might as well get a Headrush or Line 6 helix or Go for that money. Those things are infinitely adjustable and can achieve just about any sound . Just my opinion
In my opinion it depends on the kind of effect: A digital delay pedal with a variety of great sounding algorithms for 250$ seems reasonable, while a simple, analog drive pedal that's just a "variation"/copy of an overused circuit isn't worth more than 150$.
Interesting. I saw Paul's first, I was late to the Friday show, didn't know about this one 8(. From watching "Paul videos" over the years... I think the reference to "Horsemeat" and Klon is prolly correct. Paul is an obsessive Jimi Hendrix fan. If we take the "Wind" from the Flanger, and the "Mary Cries" from the compressor, we get a Jimi reference, the Wind Cries Mary. Given that Jimi may have used all 3 of these , I'm betting that explains the names, "Easter egg hunt" style. LOL JMHO 8) --gary
A NonSequitor: where is the shop puppy at? We need to see the dog more!
Horsemeat is code for a Giant Dong.
Giant Dong would’ve been a better name than horse meat. Kinda like the male version of “Big Muff”.
"Almost ... just weird." - Best comment in the video. Flangers
What is the best American Made Solid Electric Guitar under $1,500? @Phillip McKnight
6:36 now I want to listen to Stone Sour again!
The wind cries Mary 🎸
Don't worry, I just checked the date and it's not April 1st. You're good.
Philip: where did you get that awesome pedal stand?
Thanks Phil, but I won't be rushing to the bank to take a mortgage
That flanger is nice, but not 350 dollars nice.
Phil, do you still have your t's available?
Is the Horse Meat pedal an Ikea Signature model?
Hmmm not even April yet! 😊
Lawyers and accountants need pedals too
The names are unusual but you're not going to forget them. PRS wins on that score regardless of whether someone likes the pedals. Love that you titled the chapters Compression Pedal, Flanger Pedal, and then Meat Pedal. lol
You may not want to use a compressor this way but in other demos I thought Mary Cries sounded best as a combo of a boost and a compressor. The guitar seemed to wake up and come to life. If they take your suggestion and come out with an SE version for $99 I'd buy it.
Idk man, the chinese pedals you see online with a random image of a dog on it, and a “Howl” knob….. thats what this comes off as…..
“Horse meat”, ah yes, classy.
Actually, I've already forgotten the names. Something, something and horseface?
@@MercilessGuitar151 Seriously , the only one I can remember is Horsemeat. The compressor is something about Mary crying and the flanger is something like the "When the Wind Blows the Trees Sneeze," right?
WIND THROUGH THE HORSEMEAT
PRS has been dipping their feet into a lot of different things recently, I think they should focus on guitars honestly.
Horsemeat pedal! There is a setting that makes it sound like you are frying a slab of horse meat in a frying pan! It goes SIZZZLE SIZZLE!
I saw prs website demo the horsemeat a few hours ago so they are real Phil..
This new pedal makes horsemeat of the standard-till-now, the Klon.
Are you kidding me? PRS prices are such a turn off. Love you Phil you da man!
the name horsemeat comes from the fact it integrates Josh Scott's Meat mod.
Is that true?
@@DanGibsonGuitar splitting the bass contouring into two knobs is brilliant tho
i cant wait for the BullShip pedal next only 650.00 come with a extra large box that can be used as a stair stepper
Nice sounding pedals! Sadly I am not in the market since I just purchased multiple fulltone pedals. Great video Phil!
Pretty late to be getting into the pedal game PRS😳 (they’re for sale on Sweetwater by the way) i’ll stick with every other brand of pedal. Lol
