Hello! Excellent videos! If I can ask a question regarding "post-disater" buildings: Would ALL fire stations be considered post disaster, regardless of date of construction? Also, if it was an older fire station, would a renovation to the building need to meet the requirements of post disaster buildings? Thank you again and I look forward to your response!
Thanks for all you do, Francesco. I have a question. How will you guide a newcomer into Canada on the best way to getting their BCIN for small and large building. What are the step by step process? What would you advise?
Hello lfy and welcome. Apologies, this is a long answer... As a newcomer to Canada I recommend the following steps for getting the BCIN for Small Buildings and Large Buildings: (1) Download this document ( publications.gc.ca/collections/collection_2014/schl-cmhc/NH17-3-2013-eng.pdf ). It is 100% free and very valuable in my opinion. It offers a lot of great information about how wood-frame house construction is done in Canada. Also, it includes many many images, drawings, and diagrams. Finally, its language is very accessible. (2) Download the digital version of the 2024 Ontario Building Code. I will show you how to do this during my live stream tomorrow. If you cannot make it, you can find it here ( www.ontario.ca/page/2024-ontario-building-code ), look for the blue button "Request a digital copy for non-commercial use". (3) After January 1, 2025, purchase the Legal, the Small Buildings, and the Large Buildings self study manuals from either George Brown ( coursepacks.sohobusinessolutions.ca/ ) or the OBOA ( v0.oboa.on.ca/cgi-bin/orders/?op=category&c=Training%20Manuals ), whichever offers the best price (including delivery). I say AFTER January 1, 2025 because you want to purchase the manuals updated for the 2024 OBC. Right now, they are based on the 2012 OBC. (4) Start with the Small Buildings first. Of the three, it is the "easier" one (although still challenging in my opinion). When I wrote it, I spent approximately 20 hours per week studying for one exam in addition to having a full time job. And I would complete one exam every month. This is a heavy pace, though. (5) Once you complete studying with the study manual, sign up to write the exam through Humber College ( humber.ca/buildingcodeexams/ ). Look especially at Exam Registration (or similar). I believe you must register at least twenty-one (21) calendar days in advance of an examination. (6) After your first exam, and once you find out its results, use those results to adjust your studying. Example: if you passed, keep the same habits. If you were not successful, change something...maybe more studying, or you can sign up for the corresponding courses at George Brown or the OBOA. Google either "George Brown Building Code" or "OBOA training" to find the corresponding sites (for some reason, my browser is not connecting right now) I hope this helps a little. Good luck! Francesco
@@FrancescoTangorrathanks a lot for taking the time to pen down beautiful actionable plans. I'm more open to learning all of this through video medium instead of the hard or digital copy of the PDFs. How many hours in total or how many days/months did it take you to study for each of the exams (legal, small buildings and large buildings)?
Hello Mohadese, It's explained starting here ( ua-cam.com/video/bOyMBSNSjbI/v-deo.htmlsi=vw7WMJ7y9tjER7f3 ) TLDW: Access to Brightspace is for student in the course. I hope that makes sense.
Mr.Tangorra out of the courses listed in the Home "Construction Regulatory Authority Courses & Exams" Which ones would you suggest i need to pass the HCRA Exam and Obtain my builders permit.
Excellent, thank you! Would ALL fire stations be considered post disaster buildings regardless of their date of construction? Also, would any renovations to any fire station, regardless of when it was constructed, be obligated to meet the post disaster requirements? Again, thank you very much!
Mr. Tangorra, I have an opinion from another engineer you may be interested in reading regarding this topic, if you had an email address I could send it to you for review?
@@truthseeker6551 Hello and thank you for being patience. I appreciate it. You are welcome to email me. You can find my email by Googling my last name and "Algonquin College". I hope that's ok. If I post my email address here, spam bots will inundate my inbox. Fingers crossed this works.

I tried the small building exam once and I got 68 which was close but I was surprised with lots of question about part 12 and SB 12 which was not even mentioned in the small building course that I got at the college.. is there any link or website that explain this topic?
I haven't posted any videos about part 12 and / or SB12, unfortunately. I can recommend the self study manuals here for the appropriate exam ( coursepacks.sohobusinessolutions.ca/product/small-buildings-2012-2/ ) or here ( v0.oboa.on.ca/cgi-bin/orders/?op=category&c=Training%20Manuals ) if you haven't looked at them yet. It's the same manual in both links. I hope this helps. I don't know of other sites or links. Perhaps some one else can chime in?
Same here. I got a 68 as well and due to the fact that no SB12 was explained, I was unable to clear the OBC small building exam. If you are able to make a video on that, it would be greatly appreciated and helpful. @@FrancescoTangorra Thank you in advance.

Any progress on the question regarding the post-disaster buildings?
Big thanks.
Oof, you're right.
Maybe I can cover this in the next live stream, where I answer other viewers' questions

This a good idea, thank you.
It would probably be a course on its own, since Part 4 is so large.
