These windows are a very expensive upgrade but well worth it. The biggest problem are all the options. You get to do this once so take your time and learn all you can before buying. It’s not just the windows but also the company you choose. I went to the home show and they had around 30 window companies to talk to and see what products each one sold.
Very good video. I have the 5/16” Bronze, SGP interlayer. I can take my windows out to clean. They are heavy and I couldn’t imagine the weight of the 7/16” windows. I would be concerned about the weight on the rollers. I see on mine the rollers are wearing from the weight.
Nice video unfortunately several things you’re saying only confuse 5/16 is not the minimum low e does not mean low emissions the majority of the homes do not choose tint it makes the inside of the house look dark and gloomy every one have blinds it all depends on the house individual home and windows
I received a presentation from Reese Windows and he showed me by hammering a nail with the glass that will be used and by running over a window with his car that there are in deed stronger windows that what you mentioned in South Florida. He showed me the rubber that that is sandwich between the glass and their construction of glass. I’m trying to find out are they the only company with a window design that strong in the Pembroke Pines Florida area. I’ve been trying to compare them with others but honestly can’t find a better window. The presentation was good.
Hello Robert ! When it comes to Hurricane Impact Glass, there are many different options that exist. What I covered in the video is the most common of applications for residential homes in South Florida. The rubber you are referring to is the interlayer that goes in between both glasses, and there is PVB (Polyvinyl butyral ) & SGP ( SentryGlas® Plus). These products are tested to withstand wind pressures of Category 5 Hurricanes, which those pressures depend on your location within South Florida. For example, a two story home in Miami-Beach must withstand +50/-50 PSF, and most entry level Impact Products withstand +60/-60 PSF, a home in Pembroke Pines would be required to withstand +38/-40 PSF this is Category 5 rating. So you can see that the Impact Products would withstand more than is required. Now, if you would like to increase the strength of the window, the actual testing would be to add re-enforcements to the frame, which is aluminum that is added behind what holds the glass, and this is what needs to be done for High Rises where the pressure is higher. So In conclusion, will a stronger interlayer help in a storm? Absolutely it will. Will it be that much of a difference from the standard interlayer? The rigorous testing says no. Presentation wise, every company has different techniques to persuade a customer, but a car wont be running over your window or a hammer with a nail during a storm. I hope this helps ! Thanks for watching
Hello , the best way to determine what manufacturer you should go with would be the one who beat fits your needs. For example, color options, glass options, which product you are being offered and which one will best fit your needs
It all depends on your budget and needs ! Thicker glass does not necessarily mean it will be stronger- as the interlayer in the middle is what gives the glass the impact rating.
Great explanation. So I have glazed impact rated doors and there seems to be some "bubbling" in some areas in the center. Does that diminish its ability to perform? And what would cause that bubbling?
Hello Will ! The "bubbling" is from de-lamination, which means in that area the sandwich of the two glasses is beginning to separate, thus air is filtering in-between the glass. This does not affect the performance of the product as it will continue to withstand its rated pressures. It will just not look the nicest.. from experience we have see it expand but very very slowly, so if it is not too big of an eye sore you can leave it until you'd like to change it. Most Manufacturers have warranty for this .. I'd recommend checking in with whom you purchased the products. Hope this helps !
A well thought-out presentation on a very broad and potentially complex (and confusing) subject. Overall pretty good, but it was confusing in parts and you did make a few factual errors, mostly minor. One area that was confusing was when you said that the glass is laminated (paraphrasing) to keep outside things outside. On impact the glass will break, but nothing will get through it. But then you stated that the glass is usually tempered and this was good because tempered glass shatters into tiny pieces and not big dangerous shards. While both statements are true, as stated they are also confusing because when stated together they contradict one another. If the tempered glass breaks into tiny fragments then what is keeping whatever broke the glass outside? You also state that when something impacts and breaks the glass it usually "breaks inside", then you explain that inside means "between the glass" ... not sure what that actually means, but glass either breaks or it doesn't. there is no breaking one side and not the other. Can you explain that idea further? Many more questions, but if you want to reply, we can keep this going if you like. `

Hi have you noticed issues with distortion with the ESWindows. I was told not to use this manufacturer because of the quality of the windows/distortion but CGI is so much more expensive!
Hello, from our experience, we have not had any issues with glass distortion. Now, this does not mean it wont happen, but if it does, a simple glass replacement can fix the issue. Technoglass has their systems really down so the errors they have in production are very minimal. Hope this helps.
Hi, I would appreciate if you can assist me with this question? Should I have to put 7/16 glass window with Blue-green color? the question came across because I am dealing we a Company that works with ESWindow. The company made us an estimate with the green glass and then they told us that they no longer manufactured the green color but the blue-green one but that it would not make the project more expensive, I wanted to put 5/16 glass in almost all the windows and 7/16 only in key places, but now the contractor sends us another estimate with a much higher price because it is necessary to put 7/16 glass in all the windows... that is why I ask if is it mandatory to put 7/16 glass with the blue-green color? Or does the color interfere with the thickness of the glass?

I was given a offer for $400 more for a 9/16 door instead of a 7/16. Is it worth the extra?
Hi, what is the best way to determine if you should go with PGT or ES Windows/Doors?
