awesome video ! As a hurricane window contractor, I can attest to the fact that here are many factors that go into why a project may cost so much. For one, there are many different manufactures, then within those manufactures they have good, better, best options. Then there a many options for glass thickness, glass color, low-e options, insulated options. Then you can choose between insulated laminated glass or just laminated glass. When you purchase whole sale , like you mention in the video, you are responsible for getting all those things right when placing the order, which even us a professionals still struggle with from time to time. Next up we have site conditions, is the home concrete block, wood structure, is the home 1 story or two stories, is the floor wood that can be scratched easily, carpet , or tile that if broken hard to replace ? After that you have window measurements, to avoid damage to the exterior stucco and the drywall, you need to measure the proper way. Measuring is for windows is a skillset that comes from lots of experience. One mistaken in a width or height, by just one inch, your window is either two small or too big, when you DIY you'd be responsible. Next up we have installation, you mention these distributors can recommend installers basically subcontractors, who if they don't do a good job ( most don't) , there would be no one to call or hold accountable and since you are not a professional, you will not know if they did a good job or not. plus having strangers in your home is not advisable. Insurances, what if one of these people are hurt ? It cost way more than hiring a legit company. If you have never done this before, how do you know it was done correctly ? While there will always be a market for DIY, if you have more than 4 Windows, it's definitely something that I would not recommend due to all the factors mentioned prior. Some things are worth paying to get done, this is one of them.
These are expensive projects, that you will only be doing once on your home. Make sure you have a experienced, licensed professional get it done for you so if they do not get it done right, you can hold them accountable.
Overall great video and very helpful advice for anyone in the market for Hurricane windows

Spoken like a contractor! Prices for windows and doors installed in Florida are out of control. Lets charge 60k for 16 windows! I quoted similar to that by multiple people where if I would do the job myself, it would be less than 1/3. Contractors are out of control!

@@endriceka5266 I mean the same way if you were to do anything it would be much less. You grow your own fruits, they are free compared to the market. Contractors are in the services business, many many expenses to run a legit business, and like any business, you need to make money. Now, how you make that money matters. There's a large difference between being fair and just straight up ripping people off. which is what many contractors do. We are successful because we are fair, but obviously are compensated for the hard work.

Shutters are still a great idea. Remember that your sacrificial glass is on the outside with one pane of glass.

I just got a quote for 53,000 and it didn't include any doors. I just can't. Who did you use for the 24K? It would be cheaper for me to fly them here, lol. I'm in Jacksonville.

@@chalkitup4827 I used access doors and windows. They do southeast and southwest. Not sure if they'd do northern as well. Make sure you only sign with a company that will actually tell you what you're getting. All of the companies except this one just wrote a number on a piece of paper. No details on what brand/model windows they'd actually be installing. One guy quoted me 13k just for my front door.

How did you buy the windows wholesale without a GC#? I understand using an LLC, but it appears that you also have to be a GC to order from ABC?

Maybe they changed their requirements, but they never asked me for one, and I didn't have one. Give it a go!

Did your installer use the Miami Dade installation for insurance discounts?
