    I voted for this man 3 times. He balanced our budget during 8 years of war. Industry was stable. I would have been happy for him to be in for 5 terms. Canada would have come out as an economic power house.

    Agree or not with Harper and his government, and I do not, he is an intelligent man. That being said, he is incorrect on his point that Trump's FA approach will outlast his presidency. That may hold true under current political design, but there is a huge political shift in America, and acceptance of Trumps horrible policies and bully tactics are not being embraced.

    What is it with Canadians that think that handing our whole economy over to a man who is not happy with an 8 billion dollar trade surplus is a good idea. I'm not a massive fan of trudeau nor do I think everything he touches turns to gold. He's not the best, not the worst. In this issue though going in to a negotiation saying, "please sir, don't destroy our economy. I'll give you whatever you want," is a great way to be a third world country by next year. When every single canadian job is gone, every dairy farm is gone, and every tree is cut down in the whole country how happy would you be. You don't play poker by handing over your hand to the other side.
    You want to know what I would like to see Trudeau do? I want to see him shake hands with Trump, say I'm looking forward to resuming negotiations soon, and then go to some of the developed countries we trade the least with right now and negotiate better or an initial trade deal with them. Then you go to dairy farmers and tell them your going to open up markets with other countries under the condition that only small hormone free dairy farms of 100 head or less are open to trade from either country.
    You open a larger market to both countries in all markets. Depend on the US less for trade. Keep Dairy farms employed and allow room for others to enter the market, and one country has much less of an affect on our economy. There is nothing to benefit from negotiation with the USA right now with trump. Canada has nothing to gain and everything to lose. When our reliance on their economy drops we gain bargaining power and the limited bargaining power we have is the fault of every prime minister between Mulroney and Harper. (god that's depressing) The one thing Harper did that actually worked out well for Canada was starting the EU trade deal that Trudeau signed. That deal is just coming into effect and we have now been given a reason by Trump to expand that to many other countries.
    Britain now has no choice but to sign trade deals as fast as possible. It affords Canada the opportunity to open up england, ireland and scotland as trading partners in record time.

      @rosestewart1606 6 років тому

      Well said but supply management is here to stay for dairy. You either have to let them produce for export too or keep other dairy products out. However I do feel different about cheese which doesn't actually lose nutritional quality while being shipped.
      We just need to trade with countries that don't have the same products that we have an advantage in. The way we're doing it is a lose-lose for both countries...either we lose jobs or they do. We should be exporting to countries where our products actually improve their standard of living or they don't have them at all.

    • @tanler7953
      @tanler7953 6 років тому +1

      Robinson Joe I absolutely agree. The young Trudeau is facing a major crisis. But any Canadian prime minister would be facing the same dilemma. Trump represents an America that's angry and bitter and in no mood to compromise.

    • @joer8854
      @joer8854 6 років тому +1

      The idea with trade is not to lose on either side but for both to benefit from a larger market. in an open system both countries standard of living equals out and it stabilises both economies. What Trump isn't telling people is that in a closed economy during good times jobs are plentiful and you choose where you work. When there is a downturn people lose their job which means they can't buy products which means more people lose their job which means they can't buy products and so on. You might survive a few small downturns but eventually it collapses. With an open market because your still exporting even heavy layoffs don't have a noticeable effect to the economy as a whole because you have a large variety of products and jobs. In a closed economy a major layoff can be catastrophic.
      You still have recessions in an open economy but you don't have an economic collapse.

      I am familiar with Phoenix system started with Harper but it means to evaluate performers and make everything in to federal level could handle It came at the same time to limits to unions and they didn't like it are all. Because asking for more and the like the idea of choice and campaign with any please candidate and really is a problem. The unions attack Harper last election heavily that really now is a problem anywhere in Canada. Over the last couple of years, they put it back and now asking for more. I can one thing when Harper try just make a deal supply management system in Canada riots got him and honestly getting more problems now that before specially with Trade with U.S. Under Harper we hold be ressesion we growth when the Americans fail down. We got a plus and growth and sad side now all is risk to tax fares and every back fire in trade or security all pay for it... Big screw it is not easy to maintain and it is not fare.. He also stand put effort to clear about energy independence in Canada and stand up with the fool Obama and this government kills it plus become worse that him with put Canada with national security ...

    The best way to judge a persons message is to observe the type of people he attracts with his message.
    Similar to Trump, Harper attracts the most uneducated segment of the Canadian population .
    People might not like Trudeau, however the Liberal party as a whole has far more depth than the previous Conservative administration. Andrew Coyne once said " The Conservative party has to ask themselves why they can't attract the caliber of candidate that the liberals are able to".

      Enjoy American expensive tiered Health Care?? Stop believing fake news, Canadians have wonderful Health Care and can get 2 or 3 opinions for any ailment you have. ANY hospital will take an injured person. Its you Americans that are miles behind and pay millions out for a poor system that fails the more unfortunate. I broke my femur and the whole operation, therapy follow ups etc and all I paid was $35 for crutches!! I do believe a Femur rod insertion would cost $100K or more where you live.........WOW

    Why is he so against the elected Russian leader? What has Russia ever done against us? And we cooperate with NATO to surround Russia with missiles and he thinks Russia threatens us? Something is backwards here. In at least this one area Trump seems more reasonable and peaceful.

      Putin may be the best Tsar that Russia has ever had but you're right about NATO.
      And while you're praising Trump keep in mind that he may be one of the most interventionist presidents the US has ever had. He's got American troops in military actions pursuing American interests on 4 continents. And I feel quite sure that he'll use those nukes he seems to love so much.
