Gavin not packing but reading 36 hours before the flight? Truly iconic behaviour.
Also, it goes to show how well written and drawn this manga is when the reader themselves feel genuinely gaslit.
The art is so incredible it's almost unreal. A cool detail with the way the mom smiles is that if you do the classic thing of covering half the image with your hand, it becomes incredibly apparent that there isn't an ounce of a smile in her eyes.
This series is so disturbing, impressed you managed to resd them all in one sitting 😮
I don't know what I was expecting but this felt so chill despite the content of the series lol this series is giving me more psychological thriller than horror
Shuzo Oshimi's work is by far my favourite albeit I am new to manga but I keep flipping/scrolling through the pages like a madman.

Shuzo Oshimi is a king, such a good mangaka, the way he draws character expressions is outstanding.
The dad and cousin are the true victims in this manga
The dad?? He abandoned his son with the mother. He never talked about his son’s feelings or gave a sh*t (eg when he was having a stutter). The dad deserves a lot of blame too

You should look into Oyasumi PunPun (Goodnight PunPun) if you liked this series. I do *not* recommend reading it if you're in a bad headspace because it's a lot, but still really good. I did that by mistake. Love your videos Gavin.
I find that one too blandly edgy compared to this one tbh it doesn’t hold a candle to this story

I remember reading this chapter by chapter as it came out in english.
Sure, demons and ghosts are scary... but this story is even more terrifying considering the realism.
I never rly got the whole horror thru monsters stuff tbh. This is the shit that is scary. The horror monsters can be CREEPY…. But this is the only kind of horror that actually gets under my skin.
I went and binged all 13 volumes before finishing the video and OMG!!! That was so dark, and so brilliant! Great video ^^

Fantastic video man as always ! I love how dark and twisty this series is, and the art is stunning !! His other series Happiness and Flowers of Evil are also both excellent horror manga, Happiness being a personal fav, its got this real sense of melancholy to it that I love.
I just feel bad for both of them honestly
I have only read 3 volumes so I will be coming back to watch this once I finish all 13. This gives me some good incentive to get the rest of them read!

I haven't read this series and probably never will (because it's too heavy for me) but I'm still overall interested in it, so that's why I clicked on this video. Even getting only a few glimpses here and there send shivers down my spine, and those pages where Seiichi slowly cracks and fades away, I had tears in my eyes. I know I'd never survive actually reading this manga. So, thank you for taking me on a journey through this story so far. You did a great job with your commentary and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your reaction as the story continues!

Another amazing vlog !! Such a cozy time despite the contents of the manga being intense lmao. I remember my girlfriend read this series and advised me to not get into it for various reasons, so this video summarizes everything pretty well ! The art looks stunning, though I will admit I probably wouldn’t pick it up since toxic mother and child relationships in any form of media hit a certain personal chord with me in a negative way. Also, I’m not sure if you’ve already looked it up, but seiichi’s name is pronounced like say-ee-chi ! Excited to see more of these vlogs !! It’s getting me into the Halloween spirit already ! :D
Was the mom just experiencing extreme postpartum, and just wanting to kill her son the entire time, and masking her feelings therefore driving herself crazy and mentally abusing her son?

fun fact!!! in one of the earlier books, i think book 2 or 3, when seiko is mumbling and crying while talking to a boy who isn't there after her argument with her husband, she's talking to seiichi, from right before she threw him off the cliff when he was young. the "we're going to go someplace fun, just get your shoes on..." is in both scenes. it just goes to show the degree to which seiko is messed up in the head. something horrid must've happened to her.
Read this around same time as you and definitely stayed up late coz it was such a page turner even if I was just as confused as you the whole time HAHAHA this is such a good manga!! Still hoping for the best for this poor boy :((

Im going to hit you guys with some spoilers and reworks, don’t continue reading if you want to not spoil it.
The cousin showing up at 4am in a snow storm after being brain damaged is so unrealistic it ruined it. It should have been mom killing the cousin in the hospital and her convincing him to accept the blame.
It should have ended when he went to prison after that, and maybe some reunion with his girl after he gets out.
The “this is just a prologue” was just publisher hype to sell more volumes, and I feel this manga dragged on to milk more sales sadly.
And the ending was one of the most hamfisted and pointless conclusions I’ve ever witnessed.
Would not read again.

I am with you, I didn't want to feel any sympathy for the mother. However, at times I did because it was so obvious to me that she had mental health problems (depression, Post-P depression, suicidal) from the things she would say and I was mad at the husband for not getting her any professional help! Or helping his son. I haven't read volume 13 yet and I am sure the dad was great then. But I was initially mad at him for not helping his family.

I love Blood on the Tracks and I just read volume 14. It’s the only manga series that I get the volumes immediately as they release.

It’s now 2 a.m, I’ve basically read the whole thing, coming back to watch you every time I finished a volume. This stuff was intense, so I’m glad I had your company (kinda). So. Thank you, I guess? I think I’m going to have nightmares tonight, but this manga is an incredible piece of art with beautiful storytelling, so I guess it’s worth it 🫠

I am an AVID shuzo oshimi collector and I love all I have read of his! They all have made me uncomfortable which is his goal and dam the most resent one I’ve read is Happiness and goddam! Anyways love this vid love the mangaka loved everything! 🫶🏼

On an unrelated note (well... Kinda), have you thought of ever doing a reading blog for Katherine Applegate's Everworld series? If you can get your hands on them, that's a YA 12 book series from the late 1990's to early 2000's. I just got my copies of 1-10 today! I had to bid on them on eBay.

Honestly, I'm still confused. Was he crazy and told his mom to push off his cousin, or did his mom manipulate him to think that he told her to push him. He does end up pushing his cousin irl but did he tell his mom to do it the first time? So confused at what to think of the main character.
The fun of an unreliable narrator. But I think ultimately she is the one who did it. Tbis questioning we have about the actuality of it is EXACTLY how gaslighting works. We have been put in His shoes. He can’t tell reality anymore and neither. CaAn we.

Happy you didnt hate it like I did. The art is amazing and how the faces are so expressive. Those were the things I liked about it. I think its because I'm a mother and have a son myself that I just couldnt read about them like this. And with all the gaslighting and other toxic stuff. It was a big nope for me personally.
