😂😂 I know it seems that way but I consider it a part of my job. If I’m unhappy with my system and trying a new one can help other people choose by not go for it?
Are they "photographers" anyway? I thought they are full time youtubers? Btw, I am a professional photographer and still shooting with my 5DIII. So that's that.
Jumping systems like this, as soon as someone releases the next gimmick is setting a terrible example. You shouldn't do this, even if you can afford it.
Makes sense for them. A camera body will last years, but you can only come up with so many tips and tricks videos that aren't generic. Switching around lets them make comparisons that go beyond having a camera to evaluate for a week. But, sure, you take a huge hit every time you sell your gear, and of course you need to develop new muscle memories. It isn't practical. You gotta do what works for what you're doing. There is no one right camera for everybody. Nor is there only one way to go about having a gear roadmap. Anybody buying gear of any kind needs to keep in mind that reviewers aren't exactly the same as them. Just look at cell phones. Those reviewers probably switch phones once a month. I couldn't imagine the hassle of that...
@@fcjr1362 Not necessarily a hater. Your post is just utterly irrelevant to whether she makes valid points about gear. And they are photographers, not "just" UA-camrs.
Dont care what influencers say, the money loss for brand switches Is mostly useless (you wont become a better photographer) and insane in terms of cost, especially now in the covid crisis
But some people are switching anyways. I just lent a friend my a7r3 because she was considering a switch and didn’t like it. She ended up inspiring me to switch instead.
@@jwashervisuals It seems you are not aware how this partnerships works. I have some friends working as press photographers in newspapers that also made these kind of deals between a brand and a press agent... it´s all about marketing and less about the gear. If you have some brand giving you the gear for your workers, it´s an easy route to follow.
@@smaakjeks - LOL too true on the amount of salt in these comments. So she switches camera manufacturers quite often - good for her! I switched from Canon to Nikon back in 2014 and I've never looked back. I'm super happy with what I've got and I've got way too much invested in glass and 2 camera bodies to switch for marginally improved technology. I think her reasons for switching are somewhat comical though. It's all about tricking that UA-cam algorithm into thinking you've got a hot video with "I'm switching...". The fanboys fall for it every time ;)
@@RobOnRefresh Tony and Chelsea have the models already, for reviewing and testing. So, it's a bit different circumstances than what most people have. She's obviously not selling off one system to invest in a new one, nor does she advocate for doing that willy nilly. This seems to have gotten lost on so many people watching this. She's not tricking UA-cam. She's honest about her decision to switch her main go-to camera. When she switched from Nikon to Sony, fanboys accused her of taking money from Sony. Now fanboys of Sony are accusing her of the same thing. Now that Tony has concluded that for vlogging the Sony A7s3 is better than the R5, Canon fanboys will accuse him of the same thing. Having watched this channel for a while, it gets annoying watching these people jump to conclusions when T&C have an opinion or conclusion different than their own.
@@RobOnRefresh That's why we all should use Firefox and the adblocker called Ad Nauseam that blocks UA-cam ads. In this way, we won't give a single penny to these so called "photographers" that are reducing the art of photography to a mere thing of gear. The Northrup and many others "influencers" don't deserve any money from the ads we are forced to watch.
Wh4tEverComesT0Mind I had a d7200 and rented a d810 for a week. When the 850 first came out I didn’t think one was going to be available and then by luck was able to get one.
The mirrorless cameras they mention have animal eye AF. The D850 doesn't even have eye AF. You may think it's not a big deal but in their line of business, having eyes in sharp focus matters, specially when you're cropping in order to zoom. I'm not saying the D850 AF sucks, or that DSLR AF sucks, but if there's something better that improves your work flow and productivity, and you can afford to adopt it, why not go with it? There will always be a market for used gear to defray the cost of buying the new gear and, if it's used in your line of business, can always be written off as a business expense.
Sure they do. Any Nikon action shooter that loves mirrorless has already switched. Now, going from Sony to Canon is a trickier proposition, but if you value ergos and have the money, why not? Canon has at least as good a lens line up of Sony, and will continue to lead the market so there's not much risk. Makes complete sense, depending on what you shoot.
@@GregoryFariss True enough, but eventually everyone will be shooting mirrorless and relying on computational photography...it's just a matter of time.
We can't take any of these guys seriously and we shouldn't give them any money. Use Firefox and an adblocker like AdNauseamm to block UA-cam ads and don't give any money to this so called "photographers"
Are you serious? How many photographers today have your unlimited capabilities to just scrap perfectly good systems at will and take huge losses . I am not and never will be a Sony shooter... Does the word bandwagon mean anything to the both of you.
You buy a telsa for full price, you make a video about to earn the ad revenue. It's just business and earnings. The North don't have unlimited funds. Camera are cheap to run these days
Most pro photographers would just rent a new camera and lens for a specific project, not change complete systems during a pandemic when jobs are scarce or non-existent. The Canon R5 is an especially bad choice now, as they have crippled their camera with overheating timers that shut the entire camera down for extended periods of time. Until Canon comes clean with the real reason their cameras "overheat," I would stay miles away from this camera/system/brand. Nothing worse than a camera that shuts off during a professional shoot, even if it is currently just using video. If the Canon sensor is that susceptible to overheating that they shut it off after 20 minutes, how long will it last in day to day use? Workarounds and Scotch tape are not professional solutions.
John Richardson where are you getting your facts from, Sony....pun intended. The R5 doesn’t overheat in stills or video up to 4k30fps you can shoot those features all day and the camera never becomes unusable. Even if the camera stops shooting 8k you can still switch to 4k30fps and keep shooting never becomes a brick, so please stop with your sony fanboism....Chelsea is talking about wildlife photography and portraits and the R5 is the best camera for both, please let us know what camera does more ...don’t tell almost as good, no what camera does better, I’ll wait......crickets
Dumping Nikon for Sony, now dumping Sony for Canon what's dumping Canon and when? Pentax for Christmas? Just say: 'I get bored with stuff that is older than 12 months.
Actual photographers don't dump their hard earned photography equipment every other month, this type of misleading videos are just a dis-service to community. People should distinguish the difference between Photography channels and Gear reviewing channels.
It's just a reason for another video, I can't believe they actually really need to switch. I don't think it's like the cameras they were using were suddenly holding them back and of poor quality.
@@MomentphotographyCoUk Or, you know, they already have the camera for reviewing purposes and Chelsea is currently choosing one above others they have. Maybe that instead of the made up reason you talk about.
too many of the pro influencers, are so full of it. they try to keep others down by GAS shaming them, and all the while they don't shoot anything without the absolute best newest gear. all these "pros" would fail with old cameras. Gear does Matter, it makes a huge difference if image quality is one of your highest priorities. if not, you can shoot with any camera and be satisfied with photoshop fixed grainy low light blurry pics. the top gear reduces those considerably, so it DOES matter.
@@LadyFairChildVideo I don't think that anyone is under the impression that new gear doesn't change anything. "Gear doesn't matter" more refers to, if you are terrible on basic systems you are likely going to be terrible on new systems. Be it for lack of care or lack of practice, that is based on the person. You might suck less with new gear that helps you through it, but if you use what you have and use it a lot you WILL get better. I promise you that anyone worth their salt can use any of the newest cameras for their work and get top quality photos, but preferences exist, and I think that it is wrong to fault those who use these systems to make their living for changing platforms based on these preferences.
When a professional says gear doesnt matter, they are trying to keep beginners from being intimidated by the science and the choices. Obviously a smart phone is going to take crappy pictures compared to a 45mp monster. But thats not the point. Its a process, a journey, and a beginner might be so overwhelmed but the choices and complexity and price of something like an R5 they might stay away from the art. I myself was a photography major in college back in the 80s with a Rolleiflex I worked all summer to afford, but lost my love of photography for a long time. Im getting back into it now, I have a Sony A6 and might upgrade slightly to a full frame camera, but even with my background Im finding it a little hard to understand everything. It can be very intimidating!
Soon: -Oh, that new Nikon looks great. I'm switching back to Nikon. -That new Sony is incredible, I need to switch to that. -The Canon doesn't overheat anymore, yehey... It's time to switch back to Canon.
Jumped from Canon to Sony and I'm happy with it. I don't have an unlimited budget and I know Canon will go back to their original business model of nickel and dimeing their features as new bodies are coming out. You can already see it with the "heat" problem with the new R5.
Same reason I'm not going back after switching to Sony. I switched to Sony years ago because of Canon and Nikon's refusal to make any sort of real innovation. How long before Canon starts sitting on its laurels again?
I'd like the R5 as a stills camera, definitely the best stills camera on the market at the moment I'd say. However, I can't give my money to a company that lies to their clients and cripples their cameras deliberately while people still have to fork out an arm and a leg for their products. I'd spend my money anywhere else, no matter how good their products might be.
I assume you're talking about their top end full frame mirrorless cameras and glass. Been shooting with Canon since the early 2000 and I've spend as little as $250 for a camera body (M2) and as much as $1,600 (6D). The advantage with Canon is they offer a big range of cameras and lenses at all price points. No other camera brand at this point has as big a range. Oh, and if you can only afford used gear, there's way more Canon gear available than any other brands.
My only issue with your intro is you said "let me help you choose the camera that is right for you", Chelsea, you can't even pick the camera that's right for you, which is why you change systems so much.
The R5 first and foremost is a stills camera no more than the new Sony A7SIII is a video camera. I can't believe people would recommend the Sony unless you're a videographer only. See what I did?
That's a great tip, "Choosing a camera by how it makes you feel." Camera specs are going to take the backseat from now on for me. I have a 1DX mark ii and it's not the best camera for specs but the experience when I'm shooting is wonderful. I'm debating on the R6 but this is working for me for now.
The reason I still use my D4s, Df and D750. I don't worry about specs, I trust the images, I don't have to compete with the next upgrade, I buy great equipment from the upgrades and systems changers at big discounts. For them it is about ownership not photography.
@@DriveCancelDC Nikon just needs to get the S line glass out quickly and let 3rd party make glass as well. The Z5 seems like half a step backwards at the moment.
Sony fan boy here... and I’m not mad at ya. These all sound like legit reason to switch. Honestly if I made more money, I would try all the cameras I could. Can’t wait to hear your reviews.
There is something not quite right with Sony. Takes the better picture but takes some pleasure away from photography. I myself a Sony shooter. Hopefully the new controls and menu arrangements and touch screen which come with A7s3 solves the problem
Must be nice to have a budget that allows for a system change everytime something better comes out. I'm stuck with old lenses and an older camera body. The worst thing a photographer can do is watch videos about new gear cause it makes you feel like your pictures suck because your gear sucks because it's not the new fresh gear on the market. 🤦🏻♂️
I feel ya. But makes ya master what you got and when that time comes to get better equipment you'll outshine your photos and succeed because you pushed your skills to be th best with what you got. Some people pick up gear and cant appreciate it and end up selling it used 😂😂
Guys.Don't you see?She is switching between all the systems...Nikon,Sony,Canon,Fuji etc so nobody gets upset and they get likes for their videos from all the fans from all the systems.Wake up. 👌👌👌
Seriously, only reason she's switching is she's getting the gear in return for her influence, every lens she listed Sony has, I switched my whole Canon system to Sony at the end if last year and have no regrets, none whatsoever. Never heard so much shite in my life, good luck to her though getting gear in return for her thoughts, see how quick Sony are in giving her anything going forward though
I'm happy for Tony & Chelsea that they can switch and/or buy new gear. As a retiree on fixed income, I can only dream of upgrading. For now, I am very happy with my Fuji X-T4 and my old and trusty Pentax K-1. The K-1 is outdated but still produces some of the best stills. IQ and DR still compare well. If Tony & Chelsea keep purchasing new gear frequently, it's fine because that allows them to produce those videos to help us in our choice of gear. Plus, they can deduct the expenses against their business income tax.
It's true, viewers enjoy this format. But Chelsea didn't choose this format for viewer's sake... she just shot with the R5 and liked it, so she made an honest video. -Tony
It’s interesting that Chelsea promotes Toni’s book suggesting that it can save pros thousands of $$ presumably by helping them choose the right equipment the first time. Maybe she should read it. The simplest answer is that Chelsea likes gear, and that’s ok, many photos have g.a.s. and that’s part of the enjoyment many get from the photographic process. One thing for certain, the Nikon D850 which she moved away from (to a degree at least) 1.5 years ago is just as capable of meeting the most demanding and discerning professional photographer’s needs as either of the models she moved away to since. It would seem this whole gear switching and justification exercise on display here brings little real value to new photographers other than to demonstrate the wrong way to select equipment. Fortunately few have the resources to go through this flip flop of equipment.
Blah blah... mirrorless is better than the d850. May be same or similar results but less fun compared to an a7iii, a7r3, r5, etc. Its not always about the end result but the journey of getting there. Mirrorless > mirror
D500, A9, D1, D850, D6 for fast wildfire and pro sports. NX, TX, for travel fun. The 2020 mirrorless is catching up to AF from 1980s. Own both is better and more fun. All in one camera is a Fanasty
She has a job that requires her to make content on a regular basis. Switching means 2-5 videos just about switching, with the people who use each system jumping in to comment, reposting happy or sad thoughts etc.
When you have unlimited funds you can buy any camera. “ kids don’t do what Chelsea does. You might pick up gear acquisition syndrome “ . That leads to zero$ in the account.
Since what Chelsea does is run a UA-cam channel reviewing gear, and work as a photographer, then your advice to avoid doing as she does no longer applies.
This video sounds like an ads. You just make a list of what the R5 does and A7RIII doesn't and come up with rational why you prefer one over the other. Also, if things like Sony ergonomic and menu system bother you, why did you invest thousands of dollars to switch to Sony in the first place?
Changing from one product to another is normal for customers when they see something new, yet if you often change, people will see it is just your routine, and whatever reasons you mention might be less trusted.
Yep, every reason she said in this video went in one ear and out the other. This video felt more like a friend trying to convince you that them doing drugs is actually a good thing for them.
@@chelseanorthrup8787 You still have D850 and D500 in your back pocket. It's just a camera dude, get on a raft closer to em flying chicks and show your results.
Sony like Fuji is a giant company. They have huge marketing budgets. They can entice a lot of people to use their equipment. This game is no longer funny. Photography is not about gear.
Unless you’ve got a bottomless wallet it’s an insane decision to make and especially in the current economic uncertainty. There are no bad camera brands so have to question why a specific camera will make anyone a better photographer because quite simply, it won’t! The only reason I would move from my brand is if it no longer existed, even then id leave it until I had no other options!
As someone who has used Sony, Canon and Nikon, I couldn't agree more. I liked the technical aspects of Sony, but there were a lot of little usability issues that drove me crazy. I can see why the new Canons are the best of both worlds for a lot of photographers.
I used Panasonic a lot, and Panasonic in my opinion has the best ergonomics that you want to wish for (would be a dream if they had better AF :)). And now I am using Sony mostly, I can't say that it annoys me, I can live with it.
@@lotierm That's why I see the Canon as appealing. Killer AF, near best in class ergos (I haven't used a Panasonic), great Ibis, good resolution, good DR... And even if the video features aren't up there with the a7s III, there about as good as you get on a high resolution camera today.
Chelsea said she has a passion for wildlife photography, and the R5 has superiour focus tracking of birds in flight. The R5 will stay focussed on the bird whilst it flys past behind a bush. The R5 is the best tool for the job.
Nor Dic We’ll see if the Instagram keeps popping up D850 shots during this “switch”. To be clear, I don’t have a problem with education oriented UA-camrs coming up with gimmicks to keep the viewers hooked. I think the average photographer should simply know that it’s highly unusual to swap out systems on a whim when the current system does the job. There are a heck of a lot of very nice wildlife shots off the a7riii. Heck, for a fraction of the price, there are incredible shots by the Canon 7d Mkii. There’s a reason UA-camrs announce a “switch” as often as they do.
David Ramos Of course she can...my comment isn’t about money. You can purchase every system on the market and use them interchangeably if you wish (indeed, if her and Toney’s instagrams are any indication, they both continue to use the Nikon for wildlife after “switching” from something else. The unrealistic part is that the camera is your tool. It is a complex tool that takes a long time to master. Can you quickly make every adjustment using your muscle memory to capture the shot or do you have to think about how to get the job done. Do you know precisely what kind of shot you are going to get based on how you set it up for the conditions you are shooting in. Speed is particularly important for wildlife and action photography. This is hard fought experience, skill, and knowledge you get with your tool over a long period of time. Photographers don’t quickly give that up because there’s a cool new feature on a completely different system. The average person should know that and that “switching” is more the exception than the norm in the real photography world. By picking a good system and sticking with it, you will become an infinitely better photographer than by constantly switching systems for the latest cool feature. I also understand that a lot of youtube engagement is driven by talking about the latest gear, so “switching” makes a ton of sense to drive that engagement. This is their business, it’s how they make their money. They need to strategically plan their content to maximize viewership and engagement, even if that content doesn’t reflect the real world perfectly.
@A Google User Any one with half a brain would know that Chelsea has been a wildlife photographer for a long time, and runs wildlife photography work shops and tours. UA-cam is only part of their business. The R5 is the new best tool for the job.
Wow, what's with all the hate about switching camera systems? If Chelsea were a dude switching and talking about it then it would just be some guy talking about gear and you would be fine, but when a woman does it all you guys get triggered and judgy about it. You do you, Chelsea!
Finally an influential person on UA-cam buying a camera because of how it takes pictures! Great video Chelsea look forward to hearing how you find the R5 and ignore the Sony haters they’re just regretting switching from canon in the first place :)
People that are complaining about the cost/loss taken when switching gear systems must not have other expensive hobbies. Hobbyist dirt bike rider/racers can jump to a new bike every 1-3 years. The bikes can easily be in the $9k-$12k relm. They rarely make you any money but instead can earn you plastic trophies and doctor bills. Haha. Their resale isn't great, they break or parts just plain wear out. It is what they (myself included) enjoy doing. It brings them happiness. Does it make the reality it is expensive to switch camera systems? No. Try and hold back on the jealousy and envy if you don't find it feasible to do the same for yourself. Do what feels right for your own situation. Do I have the R5 on order? No. I am sitting here with my 5Div and 7Dii content at the moment. The I wasn't interested in the R/RP release. The R5/R6 have got my attention but I am not the sort to buy something when it first comes out. To each their own. Shoot pics, grow your craft, and enjoy doing it. I have spent way too much money to not enjoy taking pictures with any set-up.
Yes, she switches systems and that is a good thing and why I tune in. It is hard to find someone who is reviewing based on experience and not just reading the ad literature or doing a one day trial. Thanks Chelsea..
@@Libinkttm Well, when these two "switch", it is really not a switch. They have plenty of lenses from alle the big brands, so it´s really no big deal for them to "switch". But this is not a bad thing. It just is.
Yes, she switches often (she is a influencer) and money obviously isn't her biggest problem. But in my opinion her reasons for switching are "Rock-solid".
There’s a young woman in Australia who uses different cameras all the time. Julia Trotti is her name and she does a photo shoot every week. The Alabamie Kid.
I LOVE the A7iii and see no reason to change. Such a fantastic camera. Anywho put up a pic from Z6, Z7, D850, A7iii, A7Riii, A7Riv, R5, R6 yada yada and 99.9% of folks won't be able to tell which camera it came from
tbh. Sony have a "interesting history" in photography. Don't worry though, after the new Nikons become Chelsea's new favourites, it will be Sony's turn again. It all comes around on the money-go-round.
I can’t believe the bitterness of some commenters because Chelsea is changing systems. Tony and Chelsea put huge time into providing a free resource for those of us who enjoy photography and videography... if she wants to change up her systems and she can, why not? Enjoy, Chelsea, and keep up the great content. PS - your reasons for updating are totally solid!
Yeah. A real professional doesn't change gear that fast! A good friend of mine, who is a EFE photographers, has Canon gear and has invested in great lenses and won't switch so easily. I have asked him about these kind of videos and he laugh. He understand these shows are to make money of innocent people (new "photographers") who are easy to influence and make them think that photography is just about gear haha ..
I can't believe all the haters here. Lord. Switching systems has never been an issue for me. Most of the time I have a body and 2-3 lenses. So selling and buying again has never been a big issue for me.
@@Axonteer how do you know I burn through money? I buy most of my stuff used, and if and when I sell I either break even or lose like 5%. I've made a system switch once and it was extremely expensive and hard learning a completely new system. It takes a long time to learn how to get the best out of any system. Good luck with the new setup. Keen to see more wildlife video with the R5. Keen to see what it can do with those new cheaper tele primes.
I can only see the "benefit" in one switch, you buy a body or two - several lenses and after a few years you know what your needs are what gear you need and what you want to work with (work as in hobbyist) - ignoring for a fact that the EF to RF adapter exists, if i'd sell all my EF gear i might be able to break even on 2-3 RF lenses and only had to pay for the body - or vice versa... you get what i mean. But once you have your 2-4 workhorse lenses the next switch gets super pricey unless you "downgrade" (say suddenly you only do street so a Fujifilm XF something something would be sufficient)
What was great about youtube back in the day was the genuine content, reviews and niche videos which now have been replaced by every video trying to sell you something in the seediest way possible, I threw my tv in the bin for this reason years ago
Being able to afford to switch systems is one reason I subscribed. I prefer listening to someone who has been using the equipment. Thanks C for your review and a little different way to look at a change.
Completely unrealistic (for the rest of us) how you are system hopping. That option is only available to folks clearing $250k annually. A true system switch where you get the full suite of lenses for all types of photography is easily $20k. Even if you sell all of your old gear it's still $15k (don't get me started on how quickly canera gear depreciates). Doing that twice in 1 year? Yeaaaaaaahhhh... That said, the RF glass is sweet....
Great way being relatable to your subscriber base when you change brands at the fly of a hat when that’s something almost no photographer can do lightly if they are locked in with lenses. I don’t mind you doing it but the way you are presenting yourself kind of feels like a slap in the face to us photographers following you. Don’t flaunt it and do it privately.
The vast majority of photographer's can't relate to most of these videos. The ability to switch systems on a whim and the economics of it isn't realistic for most. Expect another switch whenever the A7IV drops.
This was a "let's make a video now witch a clickbaity title". I'm thinking , haven't we recently seen the same video. The lenses argument then. We want nichy lenses for pro's like the f/1.2 - which i rent for fun. Nope, this was to shallow. Don't underestimate your viewers pls.
I've owned Sony cameras for almost 14 years now, and I think it would be nuts to begrudge someone moving to the Canon R5 because they like it better! It really seems like a great camera in every respect, and the glass is great (old and new), however the main point is that if you like it, you should do it! Anyone upset at Chelsea for leaving a camera they like for one that she likes better is stoopid!
We're not Sony fanboys, but you did seem to choose an odd Sony for your preferences. We wonder what your experience would have been if you'd made a more appropriate choice for your needs/likes. That said, the R5 does excite and entice us. Would you be so kind as to do some low-light testing with it and maybe compare it to the RIII or Tony's RIV?
Thanks God there is people like Chelsea that change often all her gear so you can find it online as used and make a good shopping. This is a general rule and it values for car lovers, luxury watch collectors add so on.
They say "You date your cameras but marry your lenses", clearly Chelsea dates her lenses too. The idea of a "Switch" is a joke for most people. Unless like Canon users, when Canon went to sleep for 10 years, then you dump them and switch - the idea that the R5 would force a switch from a Sony A7 RIV ( stills ) or Sony A7S iii ( video ) or A7 iii for both is a another joke. The R5 is not a serious video camera ( over heating and mismatching card slots ) and for stills the Sony A7 R iv has better resolution and dual card slots of the same , inexpensive, type. The new Canon R cameras are just playing catch up they dont match the current Sonys and you must know that.
What's with all the dislikes. She is a camera reviewer. She tests a lot of cameras and tells us what camera is good for what type of photography or film making. For example, she didn't claim Canon R5 is great for film making. But for a wild life photographer, it is excellent.
A wedding photographer I follow sent his R5’s back and it was mainly due to battery life. He was shocked at how quickly the battery level dropped. In a 10 to 12 hour event of constant shooting it would equal out to close to 9 batteries he’d have to have with him. He’s going to try the R6 instead. Anyway, I’m wondering how that will pan out for you in travel and wildlife shooting.
I like Chelsea and Tony. I really do. But this channel is dangerously close to ‘jumping the shark’. Of course changing camera systems is everybody’s choice: to a degree. If you can afford to do so and have had the opportunity to trial for more the five minutes the features and performance of other brands then all power to you. But please don’t forget - like it or not - you are an influential couple and will sow seeds of doubt into the minds of those who made their purchases based on your previous recommendations. Thirteen minutes to tell the world why you switched camera systems is a tad narcissistic (my opinion only), has little substance and thus is stretching the subscriber/viewer friendship to be truthful.
Forget the new camera, buy Tony a few decent shirts.
I bet Tony's glad he's a human being and not not a camera system!
Don't be so sure....

But, sure, you take a huge hit every time you sell your gear, and of course you need to develop new muscle memories. It isn't practical.
You gotta do what works for what you're doing. There is no one right camera for everybody. Nor is there only one way to go about having a gear roadmap.

Workarounds and Scotch tape are not professional solutions.

too many of the pro influencers, are so full of it. they try to keep others down by GAS shaming them, and all the while they don't shoot anything without the absolute best newest gear. all these "pros" would fail with old cameras.
That's an excellent point plus Canon's lenses are too expensive
Same reason I'm not going back after switching to Sony. I switched to Sony years ago because of Canon and Nikon's refusal to make any sort of real innovation. How long before Canon starts sitting on its laurels again?
Horrendous amount of dislikes on this video - probably not the time to be shouty about new gear?

Unless you’ve got a bottomless wallet it’s an insane decision to make and especially in the current economic uncertainty.

This is to create a reason to watch future videos on her switching journey. No one in the real world would “switch” for these reasons.
Dan The Man but when the current system is lacking in features you want and can afford then Chelsea has that option to swap.

Give it another 6-12 months before she switches again.
[insert inapropreate comment here] ;-)
That long? Nikon's new mirrorless cameras are nearly here, Just watch........
Yes, she switches systems and that is a good thing and why I tune in. It is hard to find someone who is reviewing based on experience and not just reading the ad literature or doing a one day trial. Thanks Chelsea..
See you back in the Sony camp when the A74 comes out, Chelsea... 😂
Or a7rV
then she will again switch for new Canons .. they have money ..
@@Libinkttm Right. Rich as you know what.
@@SusanSlattery for what ?
@@Libinkttm Well, when these two "switch", it is really not a switch. They have plenty of lenses from alle the big brands, so it´s really no big deal for them to "switch". But this is not a bad thing. It just is.
It's all about the views, nobody would subscribe to a car UA-camr with only 1 car.
Don't forget the affiliate links, which will probably soon be part of the videos.
She is a UA-cam reviewer more than into photography shooting business, so we take her advices wisely 🙏
I LOVE the A7iii and see no reason to change. Such a fantastic camera. Anywho put up a pic from Z6, Z7, D850, A7iii, A7Riii, A7Riv, R5, R6 yada yada and 99.9% of folks won't be able to tell which camera it came from
It's sad because you are promoting the marketing of Canon this way.
Why’s that sad? Sony have a ruthless history they aren’t a nice company and canon has great photographic heritage
tbh. Sony have a "interesting history" in photography. Don't worry though, after the new Nikons become Chelsea's new favourites, it will be Sony's turn again. It all comes around on the money-go-round.
Surely the acid test is, has your photography improved since you stopped using the Nikon 850?
I can’t believe the bitterness of some commenters because Chelsea is changing systems. Tony and Chelsea put huge time into providing a free resource for those of us who enjoy photography and videography... if she wants to change up her systems and she can, why not? Enjoy, Chelsea, and keep up the great content. PS - your reasons for updating are totally solid!
*yawn* another "streamer/influencer" talking about switching systems, how original.
how lucrative
@@bojidardimitrov7220 Use Firefox and an adblocker like AdNauseamm to block UA-cam ads and don't give any money to this so called "photographers"
@@jennacosta5271 If the gear is free they might, just saying........
I can't believe all the haters here. Lord. Switching systems has never been an issue for me. Most of the time I have a body and 2-3 lenses. So selling and buying again has never been a big issue for me.
just because you love to burn money for the sake of it - doesnt mean everybody else can.
@@Axonteer how do you know I burn through money? I buy most of my stuff used, and if and when I sell I either break even or lose like 5%. But still, why does anyone care what I or anyone else does with their own money. I could care less how anyone spends their own money or how many times someone wants to switch systems, buy a different car, go on vacation. etc.
Chelease, just say "I would like to try new gear" and that's it. Everyone would like to try new gear, new stuff every now and then :)
I try new gear all of the time. It’s my job. Usually I then sell it. Sometimes the gear I try is so good I want to keep it.
@@chelseanorthrup8787 Enjoy your R5, Chelsea! and waiting to hear your in-depth reviews. I was just teasing you. You're always a great resource of guidance, tips, and tricks. Thanks to you and Tony - I learned tons from you, especially from the book Stunning Digital Photography!
I've made a system switch once and it was extremely expensive and hard learning a completely new system. It takes a long time to learn how to get the best out of any system. Good luck with the new setup. Keen to see more wildlife video with the R5. Keen to see what it can do with those new cheaper tele primes.
I've switched twice. Too expensive.
What we do just switching tools do we have time to creating?
What was great about youtube back in the day was the genuine content, reviews and niche videos which now have been replaced by every video trying to sell you something in the seediest way possible, I threw my tv in the bin for this reason years ago
Being able to afford to switch systems is one reason I subscribed. I prefer listening to someone who has been using the equipment. Thanks C for your review and a little different way to look at a change.
Never happy always changing. ‘I need content, I need content!!’
I find it difficult to believe that Tony will let you bring it into the house. Isn't he afraid that you will burn down the house?
Maybe he's worried she might trade him in?
Great way being relatable to your subscriber base when you change brands at the fly of a hat when that’s something almost no photographer can do lightly if they are locked in with lenses. I don’t mind you doing it but the way you are presenting yourself kind of feels like a slap in the face to us photographers following you. Don’t flaunt it and do it privately.
Hypergamy at work. Always looking for the bigger and better deal.
The vast majority of photographer's can't relate to most of these videos. The ability to switch systems on a whim and the economics of it isn't realistic for most.
Expect another switch whenever the A7IV drops.
The question is: are my photos really better than the ones I took with my D850? If it is not the answer, then it is losing money.
As soon as Nikon comes out with their next line of mirrorless the video will be : "Why I'm switching back to Nikon from Canon" ...fun stuff!
Haha yeah
This was a "let's make a video now witch a clickbaity title". I'm thinking , haven't we recently seen the same video. The lenses argument then. We want nichy lenses for pro's like the f/1.2 - which i rent for fun. Nope, this was to shallow. Don't underestimate your viewers pls.
@A Google User have you seen the thumbs down vs the likes for the same clip?
I've owned Sony cameras for almost 14 years now, and I think it would be nuts to begrudge someone moving to the Canon R5 because they like it better! It really seems like a great camera in every respect, and the glass is great (old and new), however the main point is that if you like it, you should do it! Anyone upset at Chelsea for leaving a camera they like for one that she likes better is stoopid!
Well, I preordered the D850, and I still am using it for my professional business work. Best camera every!
How much money has fallen from the Canon's money truck ?
Thanks God there is people like Chelsea that change often all her gear so you can find it online as used and make a good shopping.
This is a general rule and it values for car lovers, luxury watch collectors add so on.
Switch?!? Again?... :)
Except in ergonomics and feel. Which can be very important to a given photographer. To each his own.
I respect Chelsea's opinions but as a video shooter who relies on cameras for income, the R5 is probably the worst camera I could buy right now.
What's with all the dislikes. She is a camera reviewer. She tests a lot of cameras and tells us what camera is good for what type of photography or film making. For example, she didn't claim Canon R5 is great for film making. But for a wild life photographer, it is excellent.
Pentax is where the future is.
Canon and Sony who? lol
😂
Don't forget Kodak.
But he(Pentax boi) is still just smoking with a good friend....
What is Pentax?
A wedding photographer I follow sent his R5’s back and it was mainly due to battery life. He was shocked at how quickly the battery level dropped. In a 10 to 12 hour event of constant shooting it would equal out to close to 9 batteries he’d have to have with him. He’s going to try the R6 instead. Anyway, I’m wondering how that will pan out for you in travel and wildlife shooting.
In 6 months it will be Nikon or Sony again when they have something new.
