    After watching this video please check out a discussion with Jackie from Everbrite Coatings where I went wrong with my failed attempt installing their product ProtectaClear!
    ua-cam.com/video/8ga1Uih-2Yo/v-deo.html
    Please understand cleaning the Cybertruck is large learning curve, and I am still working on testing as many products as possible. Jackie & team will be coming out to Colorado in early June to shoot a full demonstration of the application of ProtectaClear on our Out of Spec Cybertruck.
    We will post this video here in Out of Spec Detailing.
    Stay tuned, and thanks for watching!

    No controversy, I can not agree more. I started three months ago and went through each and every step. Exactly the pain I went through and over the last month trying to fix it, strip it, re-coat it. Just impossible to level. It never self leveled, still the drip marks, bugs and bird dropping eating through the coating. Thank you for the real and honest review. Everbrite has been gaslighting me and I’m sure everyone else saying it’s application error. Updated: 50% refund if I mail it back. I’ll be posting a full review with photos on Teslatruckowners forum today.

      @tk7485 Місяць тому +1

      Same experience. I treated one panel of the truck and figured "hey they said it would self-level" so I continued with the entire truck. This was by far one of the worst mistakes of my life. I ended up having to strip the entire truck with Xylene as they directed. Fun fact, Xylene is one heck of a product...
      I thought over and over I was doing something wrong. I watched their video (the original, not the one posted 3 days ago), read the instructions multiple times and even had a second set of eyes with me to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind.
      In the end, this was a complete waste of time and money all while looking absolutely horrible. Within the first two weeks of truck ownership, I must have had a dozen people ask "what's the matter with the metal" - it was beyond embarrassing.
      I purchased my kit in March and got the exact items included as Colton so I'm not sure what they changed in their kit. The applicators caused nothing but grief leaving lint everywhere.
      I applied it the last week of April in a garage and stripped it this past week. It never self-leveled and had noticeable drips even after I tried to fix, it was horrible.
      Foolishly I never reached out to the company because I was certain I was doing something wrong. I wish I had. A 50% refund would make me feel at least a little better.
      For those who read this, please understand that once this coating goes on, it's on. Removing it is actually MORE difficult than the application.

    I knew this video would have some controversy, and it seems it already has. I applied the protective coating in the video the same way ProtectaClear did in their video 3 months ago, using apparently the “old” kit. ProtectaClear should have reached out saying there is a new kit, of which I was unaware of. I also used the instructions sent to me, which were very confusing.
    The only issue I have with my video is I called ProtectaClear a “ceramic” coating of which it is not. ProtectaClear is a “protective” coating so I do apologize for the confusion there. In the detailing industry a bunch of coatings are called “ceramic” coatings even though most of them do not contain “ceramic.” This was an error on my end in the incorrect nomenclature and I own up to it. I do feel I applied the protective coating to the best of my ability with the instructions provided.
    I invite anyone from ProtectaClear to come out to my shop in Colorado and walk me through applying it with the “new” kit and do a dedicated video on it. I will be happy to say I’m wrong if I am impressed with how it looks on our Cybertruck.
    Thanks for watching!

    First off, thank you Colton for all the videos on the CT. They have helped me out a lot ever since owning the truck since late March
    I used the Protecta clear on my CT and the result was really bad. I was also extremely stressed when I was applying the product. I followed all the instructions and it was the worst process/project I've ever used on a car. I used pure acetone I had to purchase at Home Depot and applied that after thoroughly washing, using bar keeper's Friend, and Windex.
    When I was applying the product, for some reason the wet coating was attracting aphids. The aphids were flying on and sticking to the coating. I was trying to get the aphids off, while simultaneously trying to reapply the wet coating to the area, the aphids had ruined. The product also had run marks and rainbowing on the areas that weren't messed up from the aphids. I stripped and reapplied the product on two different panels with the same terrible results. I would 100% not recommend this product for the CT. I'm currently in the process of stripping this completely off of my CT. I'm using Koch-chemie adhesive remover to take off the coating. I finished the whole passenger side and it looks so much better!
    Colton is making very informative videos and helping people out. Him being attacked by the owner of this company tells me all I need to know about the integrity of this company. I wasted $300 on this product and hopefully no one else does.

      We just had the very same experience, it's just horrible and now we have the absolute joy (sarcasm) of having to strip it. What a total waste of time and money. I suspect that UA-camrs were getting sponsored or kickbacks to promote the Everbrite kit and that we didn't get fair reviews on it as a result. Incidentally, we were very careful to follow the directions but it's total garbage. Colton I really have enjoyed your past videos, especially the last few on tbe cybertruck. But if I were to do a product review, especially on a new product like the Cybertruck, I would at least make an effort to reach out to both manufacturers and ask if there are any new procedures if you are doing a product review, including to both DYI Ceramic coating and protectaclear. These two product manufacturers are marketing their products primarily to consumers (it’s even in the name), and other than a delorean, there’s no other stainless steel car on the market - so new processes and procedures have to be done for metal vs paint. I would really look forward to watching a new protectaclear video and even a DYI Ceramic, I just believe that it’s best to reach out to a company for a review, give them the opportunity for feedback before posting, because honestly credibility is lost if you misquote info such as it’s being a ceramic coating - protectaclear isn’t applied at all like ceramic as it’s a completely different product class. I did cringe a bit when I saw going over protectaclear a few times with the applicator past 30 seconds, once it gets tacky you have to stop and let it dry out

    I guess I spoke too soon in the last video when I suggested you test out protecta clear. You must have already had that in the works! If one of these don't work the only option is either to not care what it looks like or wrap it. Now on to the video....
    Ok video over, the protecta clear does look like it didn't change the color of the metal as much as the diy. I do think you put it on too heavy. You should try it again and don't go back over it until it dries like it says. Maybe contact them and gain some more understanding. I agree, skip all their prep crap and just do the barkeepers compound that you like and then the surface prep. And get a better applicator that doesn't have lint. You can do it! The DIY looks to be looking more golden where at least protecta stayed clear, at least before fully curing.

    • @Deviloc1
      @Deviloc1 Місяць тому +5

      I agree. Since it seems to start to dry out very quickly, waiting more than 30 seconds and then hitting it again seems like a bad idea. Do one quick pass on a panel and see how that turns out! If this isn't your typical ceramic coat, stop trying to force it to work like a typical ceramic coat! Ignore the rainbow effect if the instructions didn't mention it. Stop going over each area a dozen times to try to touch it up. Just give it a solid once over from top to bottom and then leave it alone and see what the result is.

    • @ProtectMetal
      @ProtectMetal Місяць тому +2

      Agreed, once you apply, you should just let it be. Colton kept trying to fix it when after the application it specifically states to stop touching it an let is self level. Colton, you put the Protectaclear on waaaay to thick buddy. Bearded Tesla guy did the same thing. Please try another panel with much less product. I would also experiment with different applicators. Maybe even a paint brush. Remember thin to win. I still like the look of the Protectaclear more than the ceramic coating which looks dull to me.

      Agree. Definitely not ideal! Kinda surprised you can’t just pour it onto the applicator. A small metal painting pan would be my go to. Doing large even horizontal passes with a few inch overlap with a lint free applicator or paint brush. Be careful to watch for drips but sounds like these can be fixed later too if needed. Once it gets tacky they say it’s best to leave it alone and fix it after it has dried. Did you see a substantial difference between it and the ceramic coating? The camera made the ceramic coating look more dull?

      Agree with what OCD commented, it's more that it's just a different animal altogether, so there's a learning curve. Also, once you get it initially cleaned, get rid of all the surface rust and coat it, it should be a lot less of a pain. This is all just initial one time stuff. Fair to say that the one time stuff is a bit more intensive than other vehicles may require but also arguably not necessarily if you want the same level of protection. In many cases the CT is easier as you're dealing with all flat surfaces vs lots of curves and such. Last comment, being first were all at the disadvantage of figuring this all out as we go. In a year this will all be much more sorted and tested and you'll be able to take your new truck to any food detail shop and have all the initial prep and protection done for a reasonable price and be confident in the outcome.

      @@capt_ramius I don't think anyone would care about keeping it looking nice in the event of an apocalypse. It's also quite straightforward once you know what to do. BKF once in a while for hard to remove contaminants and a glass cleaner or waterless wash for general maintenance such as fingerprints.

    • @gfleck466
      @gfleck466 19 днів тому

      Actually, it is easier to wash and maintain than any vehicle I've owned. It's just a little different and new, so people are trying out a lot of different things to see what works and what doesn't. It's like suddenly people think all other vehicles don't get dirty, clean themselves, are immune to fingerprints, and never benifits from any additional coating or care. Detail shops have existed all over every city for long before the CT. Wraps, bras, coatings, waxes, and polishes were all a thing long before the CT.

    What is the point of a protective coating when there is nothing to protect. The whole point of CT stainless alloy, is not need a protective coating. It might need occassional cleanup to remove rust spots🤞. In anycase, CT is an offroad monster, may be there is need to have more dirt than smudges, to add that unique personality to it.😂 For all those town dwellers, a spray or two of stainless fridge cleaner with quick wipe, should be good enough🤔, to maintain the saintly appearance.

You put it on way to thick and you applied it in the WORST possible way. This stuff self levels and should be applied from top to bottom in one direction (horizontally) and you should never go over it a seconn time unless it is dry or go back and touch up areas . I am not sure I would ever apply this to something as big as the CT but You really should have watched some videos before you started or at the least used it on a tiest piece of stainless first

    Wow, Colton, so much misinformation here, I wish you would have reached out to us. First and foremost, ProtectaClear is NOT a ceramic coating! It is not supposed to be applied like a ceramic coating. We have videos and trainings online to show proper application and you obviously did not consult those. Secondly the kit we sent you back in February has been totally revamped and improved. You are using a kit that is not even sold any longer. Many of the other things you stated are incorrect and you should not make videos for products you truly don’t understand.

If not, then I don't think this is on Colton so much as a big miss on your part in following through on your marketing efforts. He was literally working with what you sent him, product and instruction, and he made the video before you released your latest.
