I have been to Grant’s tomb. It’s very impressive. Didn’t know until I did genealogy research that my great grandfather served under General Grant, as a 16 year old, severely wounded at Shiloh, then re-enlisted and was at Vicksburg, across TN, AL, then was part of Sherman’s march to the sea,up into the Carolinas, and was in the grand review in Washington D.C. Always been interested in the Revolutionary War and Civil War, now even more so.
Very cool.. surprisingly with all my trips to NYC I have never stopped at Grants Tomb. Something I’ll have to remedy the next time I go. I’m also very interested in genealogy, and have mentioned some of my Civil War connections in past videos. Really appreciate you watching, I got a lot more civil war and Revolutionary War content coming… Thanks again!!
Very nice. I'm 63 and have studied the Civil War and Grant for years. I never actually saw a tour of the cottage until now. Yes his book I believe brought in $450,000 an incredible amount of money then. This saved his family from poverty. Of course there was no presidential pension until after Truman. Thanks again.
This was a very impromptu visit, I really wish I had focused more on the smaller details. The cottage is wonderfully preserved, and regret not mentioning other items of interest. Thanks for watching and the support.
Western Marylander here! In the beautiful Appalachian mountains! General Grant's father-in -law once lived in our small town . He lived rifgt bext door to Emmanuel Custer , father and blacksmith of General George Custer! Custer was great at Gettysburg, but he should have NEVER attacked the Native Americans at Little Big Horn! The Dent family later moved to Missouri, where Grant met his wife Julia. The Custers moved to Michigan, as I recall. Cumberland MD has a very rich history! Ft. Cumberland ! A young Col. George Washington and British General left the fort on their way to Ft. Duquesne, later called Ft.Pitt, now Pittsburgh! Lots of French & Indian War history! Cumberland was also a major UNION hospital site during the Civil War!
