Great video! There were seven of us that represented our North-South Skirmish Association (N-SSA) unit. We are the 30th Virginia Sharpshooter Battalion at the 24:18 mark.
At minute marker 16:10 is the 124th New York, the living history unit from your Gettysburg Seminar video in October
I didn't know you guys in the US did remembrance day. I thought you guys called it veterans day. Or is this something just for the civil war?
Remembrance Day is a day celebrated just in the town of Gettysburg,PA to remember the fallen from the battle. Followed shortly there after with Dedication Day to celebrate the anniversary of the Gettysburg Address.
@CHAP316 in Canada every November 11 is Remembrance day. We remember all our fallen from every war. We wear red poppy's pinned over our hearts that buy for 2 bucks from the various veterans organizations. It's not really a day of celebration. Mote a day of somber thought. Although we do have ceremonies parades and prayer.
@@davidedwards3838I think using “celebrate” might be a bad choice for words on my part, but it is a long running tradition in this town that many look forward too, but I do feel, that celebrate is one of many words that is fitting for the description of the Gettysburg Address, as it is, the most important speech in American History.
@CHAP316 nice. I wasn't taking as shot at you using the word celebrate. I was more explaining the difference between veterans day and remembrance day. Anyways thanks for that but of context and knowledge. I think this came in my feed. Because I have been watching some videos on the civil war.
No offense taken… if interested in the Civil War, be sure to watch videos from the American Battlefield Trust.. some very interesting in detail videos… and more about the town of Gettysburg itself… the best videos come from The Adams County Historical Society. My poorly made videos are more for my enjoyment then any actual public entertainment… but thanks for watching!
U.S. Civil War reenactors at Gettysburg 2024--total pride ... total respect.
BTW really excellent video.
Thanks!!
Thank you for sharing. My father and I were at Gettysburg this past September.
Thanks for watching!
Always fun to start your day with a BANG! yeah we used to do a "History of the GI Program" at the end of the parade at the Dobbin house showing and explaining the evolution of the american GI uniform gear & weapons. see some familiar faces in the parade. love the ABC for dinner. glad you guys had a fun time
It was a good quick trip… ABC is always good. Been talking to you for so long, would be nice to see your group… if not in Gettysburg then travel to where you guys are. Thanks for all the support brother!
@@CHAP316 well if you don't mind, can i send you a friend request on FB? be a good way to stay in touch esp with upcoming events next year
Yeah, go ahead… will be nice to have the tips.
@@CHAP316 ok sent it.
Got too love the beer garden at Sweeny Tavern esp in kit sitting by the fire, Well you could always try staying at the Colton Motel LOL. trying to get into many of the popular eats can be tough on Remembrance Day esp with all the reenactors in town. We are getting ready for next weekends Plymouth Ma "America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Parade" (praying for good weather)
Yeah, don’t think I’ll be staying here again, not a total dump, but could definitely use a update. Don’t mind the wait times in restaurants as there is usually something in walking distance to kill time. A lot of MA events this coming year, I will hopefully attending some.
Thanks for the video...(and the correction). The weekend had originally been 150th NY. But over the years, in order to maintain a company formation, it evolved into "New York regiments" at Gettysburg. So now we have the 119th, 124th, 150th NY and "friends" who fall in for the weekend. Good times, with good pards!!!
lol no problem thanks for posting this
Thanks for all you guys do.. keeping history alive!
@@CHAP316 you should have come over to the camp afterwards we would fill you in the history of camp life and what it was like to be a soldier and all the gear
@@Rememberingcivilwarhistory7744next time you guys are there.. will definitely do that if I’m in town.
I toured/visited the Battle of Gettysburg many yrs ago when our children were very young. It was a spell binding time. Our now grown children still remember that visit. The size and scope of the entire battle from start to finish being on that ground following the actions is mind boggling.
My parents took me to many battlefields when I was a child, including Gettysburg. Yes, the size and how far the battle of Gettysburg stretched is just amazing… there is something about that place, just feels different to me…
Cool place to visit. One of the greatest men and US Presidents In the top 3
yeah im part of a youtube thumbnail. lol. glad you enjoyed the demonstration however we were three units the 124th the 119th and the 150th N.Y.S.V.
Thanks for the info, I might take all the video I shot of you guys and upload just that for those interested. You guys looked sharp! Good job!
@@CHAP316 Thats awsome i appreciate your work and helping us keep the memory alive of the brave men who fought
That deff looked a fun last day exploring Rose Farm to Evergreen . esp wht walking around town and shopping lol last trip we did some of the gift shops and had to hit WW2 American Experience Museum (drop off some beer ) see some new items. always a stop into Regimental Quartermasters (scored a nice item) We also got Matt's coffee from Bantam and Beer & soda from the ABC along with 2 cases from Adam County Whinnery & a case of goodies from Mason Dixon Distillery it's always a good time when your visiting Gburg
I’m back home now… going to sit in my porch and enjoy a nice cup of “Little Ground Top” Hate leaving Gettysburg, really wish I could get my wife to move there, I’ve asked… Don’t know when I’ll be back, maybe the next big event come the new year. Thanks for all the support, brother!
@@CHAP316 when we were in town the GF was looking on Indeed for jobs in the area lol, sadly the rents are still kinda high also. hoping next year we can swing 2 trips (July / Sept) fingers crossed. But we also have alot of 300th and 250th anniversary stuff around us for King Philip's War & Rev War. and booking a room in Concord & Lexington for the 250th is going to be $$ always enjoy your videos keep up the good work.
@@2104dogfaceI live about 3 hours away from Concord… so I plan on going myself. Maybe just a day trip to save on expensive hotels…
@@CHAP316 am an hr away , but keep in mind the parking situation will SUCK lol , oh have you ever looked into either the Bedford Flag , or the Sudbury Fight ??
@@2104dogfaceNo I haven’t, but I suppose I will now… yes, small town, so I can’t imagine the traffic and all the BS to just get around. I’m sure you know about the Military Museum in Hudson, you reenact there? Another place I’d like to visit again next time they are doing an event… that works with my schedule, pretty busy now until spring… but I could get away for day trips possibly.
God bless the South. The Union may have had some real problems had General Thomas J. ''Stonewall'' Jackson lived and made it to Gettysburg.
Bantam Coffee wasn't open??lol , man this looks like it was so much fun if you haven't tried it at Sweeney's Tavern - Bangers & Mash w/ a Confederate sharpshooter The Rose farm will be a great time, we did that during the 159th and had it all to ourselves aside from the horses grazing in the field with us.
Might be at Sweeney Tavern tonight for a drink or two.. but having dinner at Sign of the Buck. Haven’t really had time to eat a good meal, so tonight I am. Stopped at Bantam this afternoon to bring some coffee back home…
right next door...
Western Marylander here! In the beautiful Appalachian mountains! General Grant's father-in -law once lived in our small town . He lived rifgt bext door to Emmanuel Custer , father and blacksmith of General George Custer! Custer was great at Gettysburg, but he should have NEVER attacked the Native Americans at Little Big Horn! The Dent family later moved to Missouri, where Grant met his wife Julia. The Custers moved to Michigan, as I recall. Cumberland MD has a very rich history! Ft. Cumberland ! A young Col. George Washington and British General left the fort on their way to Ft. Duquesne, later called Ft.Pitt, now Pittsburgh! Lots of French & Indian War history! Cumberland was also a major UNION hospital site during the Civil War!
Thanks for video John! Missing you this trip as well.
Still a lot of trips to come… look forward to our next!
We had a great time in Gburg last month for WW2 Weekend at Ike's Farm with just under 3,000 people coming through the encampment. met up with Matt from Addressing Gettysburg as he came through on sunday, . We got to do a little exploring on the battlefield, and did a tour with the owner of the Mason Dixon Brewery. then a day trip to Antietam (they now have a challenge coin at the visitor center) tried Capt Benders Tavern in town ( a must amazing food) and also hit up "Antietam Brewery" a great selection of beers. 15:46 mark I scared the poop out of Dorr once he learned me and the guys from E/506th were in town on Friday night. some guys saw him the the MAX show with his sidekicks. if the troopers from Easy company knew their items would end up in his hands they would have burned it all so he couldn't make $$ off them. Love sweeny Tavern we ate there twice while in town this past trip. the ABC is the hangout for the the troopers of E/506th Reenacted when in town lol
I need to get down there for that WW2 event, I saw it advertised, but couldn’t swing it this year. I’ll be looking out for the next one.. Matt is a very cool guy, just a genuine nice guy. I support Addressing Gettysburg not just because it’s great, but the guy deserves the support. This was my only free day really.. not much time to do much the next few days… hopefully I’ll be able to get out and explore a bit more, always something new to see in Gettysburg.
@@CHAP316 yeah the event has some of the best units on the east coast with displays from home front to the frontline. this last event was "1944: the Great Crusade"( the Airborne units covered Market Garden) next year will be themed "1945". plus the WW2 American Experience Museum host the USO dance on sat night. We stayed for a few extra days to do stuff but the weather turned and it was cold & wet. now we r getting ready for battle of the airfield in a few weeks at "American Heritage Museum " in Hudson, MA
I have been to Grant’s tomb. It’s very impressive. Didn’t know until I did genealogy research that my great grandfather served under General Grant, as a 16 year old, severely wounded at Shiloh, then re-enlisted and was at Vicksburg, across TN, AL, then was part of Sherman’s march to the sea,up into the Carolinas, and was in the grand review in Washington D.C. Always been interested in the Revolutionary War and Civil War, now even more so.
Very cool.. surprisingly with all my trips to NYC I have never stopped at Grants Tomb. Something I’ll have to remedy the next time I go. I’m also very interested in genealogy, and have mentioned some of my Civil War connections in past videos. Really appreciate you watching, I got a lot more civil war and Revolutionary War content coming… Thanks again!!
Very enjoyable. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for the support!
Thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching!!
Very nice. I'm 63 and have studied the Civil War and Grant for years. I never actually saw a tour of the cottage until now. Yes his book I believe brought in $450,000 an incredible amount of money then. This saved his family from poverty. Of course there was no presidential pension until after Truman. Thanks again.
This was a very impromptu visit, I really wish I had focused more on the smaller details. The cottage is wonderfully preserved, and regret not mentioning other items of interest. Thanks for watching and the support.
I just found the channel, very cool history that will now be on my visit list, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! I’m not best for the history lesson, but do hope others visit these locations and enjoy them as much as I have.
Love your videos. Especially, the part where you were trying to con your dad out of fifty cents for the candy bar! lol. Also, just wanted to say Thank You for your service!
Thanks!! My childhood was filled with my Dad filming us at Civil War battlefields, so enjoy filming my trips. My videos are more personal diary vlogs, but could be useful for people visiting Gettysburg or elsewhere and see what there is to do or where to eat. Thanks again for watching.
Yeah the ABC is a great place to eat, last time there we had a group of WW2 Paratroopers in the beer garden lol. Love the Spangler Spring area esp as the 2nd MA made their charge there. and the fighting on Culp's Hill 5:56 mark OMG a nice clean trail up too the top of LRT i did that walk a few time back in the day and the thorns would get you 6:36 mark not a fan of the railing around the 44th /12th NY , but that's just me, LRT is the #1 spot for sunset During the 159th we walked the field of the Rose Farm and using William Frassanito's book "Early Photography at Gettysburg' we were able to line up the photos in the spot they were taken (think it was just the house being worked on now being set up for a AirBnB)
They did a real nice job on LRT, looks a lot different but will ensure it’s around for years to come. Hope to do more then/now comparisons in future trips. In October I’ll be doing a seminar with Gary Adelman, so I’ll be filming most of that trip if allowed.
LOL The Mine way back when , we were bar hoping around town in Kit CW to WW2 with arms, we did a modern Stack and did a tactical entry and stacked up to move down the shaft to the door and scared the crap out of an old couple who came out just as we got to the door.
Spent so much time eating at Sweeney's Tavern when i lived in town as i could walk to it then stumble back home after drinking with everyone lol , Tim Smith is a regular their, the beer garden is a must along with the Bangers & Mash.
Love Antietam , it really is an amazing battlefield to tour, and just about a 1hr drive from Gburg. 9;25 mark Love that your talking about the 2nd Mass (as a yankee myself in MA) then the 2nd Mass also fought in Gburg at the base of Culp's Hill. Burnside bridge is a must an amazing spot
This was my first trip to Antietam as an adult… really enjoyed it and wished I could have stayed longer. I’ll be back to Gettysburg in October for a few days. Always enjoy just being there, great little town!
sorry we missed your guys trip to Gbug for the 161th as we couldn't swing 2 trips this year. will be their in sept for the WW2 Weekend and adding a few days to that trip to do Antietam ect...
I enjoyed the series! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Nice video man. Thanks for sharing and I really enjoyed the history lesson, the old time photos and the thowback videos!!!!
I did same thing in 2018 with my nephew. Did Antietam for 6 hrs. Drove up to gettysburg and got hotel and dinner. Did Gettysburg for next 2 days.
Real nice drive from Antietam to Gettysburg. Awesome way to spend a weekend!
I am really glad you're still around. Still remember the videos you used to make with toys! Cheers!
Thanks! I still collect and have plenty of toys… Need to do some videos on that, don’t know if I should do it on this channel or make a different one. Miss the old UA-cam days, met a lot of cool people back then.
I was born on Nov 19, A fact I am very proud of, And proud member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War based on the service of my great uncle, Pvt Franklin Hutchins, Co D, 13th New York Cavalry died at Anderson Prison at age of 16,
Happy Belated Birthday! My 2xGreat Uncle was in Co K 120th NY. I talk about him a bit in my Gettysburg 160th videos. He would have left the army in 1865, returning home to NY, he would die young but little is known about his life after the war. Thanks for stopping by and giving this video a watch!

I like your videos. Will you be doing other videos?
I’ll be doing more.. probably take a break during the winter. Back at it in the spring.
Wonderful to see you making content again after a long time. You seem to be keeping well, so I hope life is being good to you!
Thank you for the greeting! You were just on my mind the other day, was remembering Glenn on his anniversary of passing, and then went to your channel to see what was new, sadly nothing recent, so hope all is well and you find yourself to busy enjoying life to make videos. I’m still collecting, I really should post some toy videos.. my first love. Really great hearing from you. Best wishes to you!!
Thank you for such a good video
Glad you liked it!
Hey there! German reenactor here seen posing in the background on the left side of the screen at 24:14. Definitely understand that it looks odd from an outside perspective. We are always happy to answer the awkward questions about just "Why do you do this?" What it really boils down to is, somebody has to do it. We are always invited back by the museum because our group in particular is a heavily-vetted, well represented group of living historians with no real ties to N@zism. A majority of our members have relatives who were negatively affected by the war, I have Jewish ancestors who fled from Belarus at the time and immigrated to the United States. Our goal in German WW2 reenacting is to represent the conscripted soldier, who had no choice but to fight for a country that was unfortunately run by very evil people. By doing this, we are able to keep the memory of the bad guys alive, as history may be doomed to repeat itself when forgotten; but by representing a soldier of the general army, known as the Heer forces of the Wehrmacht, we are able to represent these bad guys in the best, least controversial way possible. This is in opposition to actually dressing up as Nazis, or members of the Waffen-SS, who were known in far greater documentation to commit atrocities than the members of the general army. I am happy that there are also groups that do portray the Waffen-SS, as they unfortunately also need to be shown in WW2 reenactments, but you will never find one of my group's members in that uniform. There were indeed SS groups present this weekend, which are also run by very good, well-vetted people. In the end, my groupmates and I all have the best intentions, and we seek only to teach history to those who are more curious about the bad guys after visiting the good guy camps. For that reason we feel comfortable with representing the Germans in World War 2 - because it's necessary that someone does. Thanks for attending the show, we hope you stop by for the Battle of the Airfield during Columbus Day Weekend! Please feel free to respond to my comment with any questions or concerns that you may have.
Very well put, thank you. I completely understand, and your portrayal of the enemy of WW2 is an amazing way to teach not just the kids in the audience, but most adults who have no ideal. You guys were amazing, and it was great to see everything on display. This was a great event and fabulous museum. I will definitely be returning. My friend and I actually had a conversation about wearing of these uniforms, something I should have added.. covering the points made by you and what I have just wrote. Thank you again sir, for all you and other living historians do.. love seeing the youth attending and learning. My disgust of that particular group during WW2 has no bearing on teaching about it, in any way possible to help others learn.
You missed the automobile building .
I was confused when the museum described the 3 collections.. I took it as 3 buildings, but in fact the auto and aviation collections were in the same building. It was shown, up the stairs in the Aviation hanger, was the auto collection, the race cars specifically. Though there were other automobiles and carriages that were not shown in the video.
@@CHAP316 the car collection is in the small barn past the hanger & garden but it's alot smaller space
@@2104dogfaceReally? Dang, I did miss it.. well, I did want to go back.. maybe I’ll wait for their next event.. I live about 3 hours away..

Nice Video again ❤❤
Thanks again!
Hello 😊 Nice Video Greedings from Germany ❤
Thats great that you got to meet him, Was going to try to make that meet up as i wanted my DVD of Gettysburg signed but it didn't pan out. but i spent 3 wks with Sam Elliot who signed it and my Nam helmet. oh there is Matt behind JD from Addressing Gettysburg Podcast during the cannon firing. another great guy who we did shots of VAT69 on the July 2nd meet up at Seminar Ridge
The Eternal Peace flame is a great stop and a great spot for sunset, we always stop by this area. i can't with Dorr Love Sweeney Tavern (sadly they r just having staffing issues and there new computer system is wonky) 8:39 mark Project_Past sitting behind you w/ his buddy , JD is a good guy Gary A. is so much fun to talk with Chris W. also great guy also real down to earth and great to talk with Yeah Sweeney Tavern is a good place, remember to wipe your feet on the English crest lol Mr. G's Roadhouse is our new favorite place to eat , The Steak Tips amazing @#$&^%$#@ as i watch this now i can taste them lol so going back. back in the day that was the Blue Parrot and in the area of the food truck was parking and a small night clubish area for the college kids. nothing like being fat & happy in G'burg at the end of the day
So i've eaten at the diner at every hour of the day LOL it's good food BUT my new go too for breakfast when ever i'am in town is Hunt's Battlefield Frye's OMG the S.O.S. is just a must get and they fresh squeeze the OJ The 1st shot marker is a nice stop esp with the new parking area. The 1st day of battle really does get overlooked by alot of people when they visit. God when i was living in town Lee's HQ was a gift shop inside and it had a motel on site. the battlefield trust did a great job restoring it back to the way it was. The new museum is amazing. Can't stand Dorr , i'am an old E/506th Reenactor and spent alot of time with the Troopers so we know how he got items. LOL you guys look good in Blue i haven't eaten at the Dobin house yet lol drank in the tavern alot when we bar hopped around town in uniform. (ah the fireplace standing by it drunk and singing while my buddy rob played the spoons and Canadian tourist bought us drinks) OMG i'am in your Video!! we were in the 2nd row with Project_Past , history Savior 1941 was a few rows back, and Lisa from Historical USA is somewhere in the crowed. you should have stayed too the very end i broke out a battle of VAT69 so me and Chris W / Chris M did a shot of it JD and Gary sat back and laughed at us. Chris M. has a video of it
We were in town also for the 160th, We skipped the Battle reenactment as i'am a reenactor (so seen plenty of them lol) so we spent time on the battlefield checking out all the work they did cleaning up Devil's Den. We meet up with some history youtube channels on Fri night for dinner at Federal Point Inn (Forward Gettysburg / Project_Past / History Savior 1941) oh you stayed in the high class hotel LOL nice, the bar is real good there haven't tried the food but heard it's good but $$ Good OL' Sweeney Tavern spent ALOT of time there, the beer garden is great for people watching. Bangers & Mash are excellent w/ a Confederate Sharpe Shooter to wash it down with. Mr.G's is a must lol so the org owner sold it and run's Mr. G's Roadhouse (A food truck out behind Gettysburger and their new bar area The Hideout) OMG the food is amazing. Yeah having lived in Gburg i can say the local's are great we always have a great time when we go back. but yeah we smack talk about tourist LOL
Sweet video. I'm pretty sure I know you from somewhere...maybe Ft. Drum?
Just looking at the name, I know exactly who you are… yes, I’m who you think I am. Been a long time, damn near 20 years. I truly hope you are currently as happy as I am. Man, I can close my eyes and still see me pissing you off back then.. ha ha.. take care brother, Sappers Forward!
Stephen Lang is very entertaining and doesn't need a script to internest others in what he says. Great video series and in particular part 4.
Thanks! Yeah, Stephen Lang was very interesting to listen to. Really nice guy too.
