- I much prefer river fishing as opposed to fishing lakes... and if the river's small, snaggy, and a bit neglected then that's even better!
In this video I explore an unknown to me stretch of one of my local small snaggy rivers.
My chosen method is dropshot and the rig is 'The Perfect Dropshot Rig'.
• The Perfect Dropshot Knot
A perfect combination for exploring small unknown and uncharted stretches of river.
I caught 'shedloads' of fish, and besides the numerous small Perch there were also a couple of surprises too.
All in all, my little fishing adventure turned into an absolute fish fest! and i'll definitely be back there at some point soon!
Morning. Found your channel as needed to learn how to tie that drop shot hook. Was at ripping canal yesterday and had a few on the drop shot but my hook thing skills were a bit .. ‘erm … poo should I say… should have channel you video yesterday !!! Anyways I’ve subscribed and now watching and liking your videos. Great !!! Cheers for that knot info. Will try it a few times before I go next 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🎣🎣🎣🎣😀😀😀😀😀
Morning to you too, and thanks for the sub! I really appreciate it.
It really is a great knot... okay it's not THE easiest to tie... although mastered it really isnt that tricky. It is however by far the best one for holding the hook at that perfect angle.
Good luck with it!
@@spikeymikeyangling6218 cheers buddy and look forward to your next video… have you ever caught a barbel on the drop shot ??? Love them perch though … can’t get enough of them 😀😀… all the best 😃
Hello Mike, I've only just found your channel, I originally used it for the dropshot tying guide. For me it was the most easy to follow on UA-cam. Then I find this! Really great insight and knowledge, going out today to hunt for Perch on my local canal. Will use your tips today. Tight lines!
Thanks for the subscription George, and good luck hunting perch later!
dam thats the biggest chub ive seen 5:44
Nice one mike, glad to see the little venues getting a look in,much overlooked.
Cheers Stuart. You and I both know the little venues are often the little gems!
Great video and some lovely fish caught. Love fishing like this, minimal tackle and roving about, what hooks do you use and do you vary length between weight and hook? Thanks
Hi, and thanks for the kind comments.
My favourite hooks at the moment are Owner Mosquitos, usually size 4s.
As for varying the depths youre fishing the bait... i usually start about a foot and see what happens. Somedays i've found i get more fish right on the bottom (especially when it really cold). It''s all a bit trial and error you know.
Amazing video mate. I've got a drop shot setup but haven't had a proper go yet. Quality video editing too.
Thanks, I really do appreciate that.
As for your dropshot set up... it's just like everything else in life... get out there and get stuck in!
"nice little pike" its freakin 8 pounds +
Great vid! Thinking of trying worms on the drop shot when it's otherwise looking like a blank. At the end you say "don't forget to fish nice and heavy". What does this mean?
Hello and thanks for the kind comment.
My comment regarding fishing heavy pertains to fishing small snaggy rivers. In that particular one for instance the target species may well be chub and perch but large carp, pike, and barbel are also present and will take dropshot worms. i've hooked and landed a few double figure carp and pike from this venue on this gear and 11lb flourocarbon leaders and braid just gives you that extra bit of security as opposed to fishing lighter lines.
I've never suffered a lack of bites from using heavy lines as a lot of this type of venue just doesn't incur much angling pressure.
Using a heavier leader also cuts down on the amount of tangles opposed to the amount youd get using 4lb leader material for instance.
My limited fishing time is precious and a break off due to a fish powering off to the nearest snag is for me unacceptable. I'd rather be able to crank right down and bully that fish away from the snags.
That works for me, however theres always more than one way to skin a cat.
@@spikeymikeyangling6218 Thanks for the reply, makes perfect sense. I've been fishing on mostly snag-free canals so haven't had to worry too much about about heavier leaders. I'm looking at a few river stretches so will bear that in mind. Cheers
