“Dean Chew is setting the standards in Singapore” Gilles Peterson
Earning praises from a worldwide range of selectors that include the likes of Gilles Peterson, Lefto, Bradley Zero, Dreamcast Moe and more, Dean Chew (co-founder of Singapore-based label Darker Than Wax and listening bar Offtrack) has been tirelessly pushing and promoting an alternative expression of leftfield music through his widely eclectic and genre-bending sets. Being the main A+R and creative mind behind DTW, the label has flourished tremendously over the past 5 years, cementing its place as one of the go-to labels out of South East Asia.
The 45min mix is a short but sweet journey into the deeper world of the 70s and early 80s Asian grooves, tapping into the areas of Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and more.

Probably this is one of the sets with most unidentified songs, despite the quadruple redundancy (SoundHound, Shazam, Google and Deezer's SongCatcher) I use in every video. If someone knows the unidentified ones, feel free to say.
Follows below Dean Chew's set list with timestamps:
1) 0:09 "Santai" (Artifacts);
2) 3:04 "" (couldn't identify);
3) 7:03 "" (couldn't identify);
4) 10:05 "" (couldn't identify and even by looking at the cover art, predominantly red with four guys making dancing poses and characters in yellow, with the exception of the central text, that is red contoured with white, Google doesn't find);
5) 13:50 "Deng Ni Zai Yu Zhong" (Tian Niu);
6) 17:37 "对话" (George Lam & Cherry Choi);
7) 22:37 "" (couldn't identify);
8) 27:02 "Going to America" (Cheng Qiong Mei);
9) 30:15 "" (couldn't identify other than a word in chorus that sounds like "Ecuador");
10) 33:52 "Bao Ban" (Connie Mak);
11) 37:20 "恭喜恭喜" (少林乐队 Shaolin Band);
12) 40:32 "여자. 여자. 여자" (Lee Dongwon);
13) 43:48 "" (couldn't identify other than a single part on the chorus that says "in my house". I'd love to know what song is and who sings, because I loved this song).
43:48 was actually a cover of In My House by Mary Jane Girls
30:15 is 什麼都不必説 by 比莉(Billie Wang)
03:04 is Sambutlah Kami from Geronimo Group (Indonesia)
and if i might add the first song was sung by Yoel C Rizal and Jacky Zimah (Indonesia).. it is a cover version from Rien Djamain who sung it in 1976. Cheers
@@tax2098 did some googling and found the vocalist is Joann Tang Lai-Ying and it's used in the soundtrack to a 1986 horror movie: ua-cam.com/video/nyKTXk18854/v-deo.html#t=3m57s (instro!)

Honestly I don't think I am coming to youtube for anything else other than all these videos! All of these are pure gold mines of beautiful jams! And especially after loving Japanese Jazz for 2 years now, I am finding so many new sonorities here! Thank you to everyone involved and to all the great artists
Incredible selection and blend, probably my favourite episode so far for it's more hypnotic and progressive phrases. At 17:40 I entered level 2, felt like I was rocking to that sloppy purple groove alone in a weird, dim, liminal space, felt good mayn.
Excelent curation as always, you're building a goldmine of different music
All bangers. Dean is the real deal 💯
this was honestly the reason I hit the subscribe button, one of my favorite mixes by far!
I'm dying to get a video tour of this place. Been drooling over it forever. 🤤 As always, love the tunes! ❤❤
Same, music and plants 🪴 🌱 A whole vibe !!! It looks like my dining room, I love it 😅
