On April 17, 2024, CEO Marc Carnes addressed the CKUA community with an update about CKUA's future.
We need you, our listening community, to support the station you know and love-and to do so in record numbers.
Achieving this Spring Fundraiser goal of $775,000 is a first step towards raising the $3 million we need by September 30, 2024 to weather our perfect storm and stabilize.

I've been listening to this station for 40 years and now whereever I am in the world. When I googled how many listeners, they now have over 500,000 listeners/month so that works out to $6 per listener....but if even 100K people would give $30 that would be the need...so I'm sending $60 to cover them for double the amount needed.
Just sent a small amount from AZ (USA). My best to all of you.
I’ve been listening to CKUA for over a decade and during a time where I started my journey as an artist. They were always there for me while I struggled to save money to open a studio over the years and they were there for me when I was finally able to leave my conventional health care profession to pursue a full time lifelong dream as an entrepreneur and artist. They comforted me and inspired me to keep going. I’ve only been able to start to donate hours as of last year and hope that we can keep this legacy going to inspire our community.
Great radio station! I will donate for sure . I really like and appreciate the variety of music that CKUA offers. 👍🏻❤️
I have been a monthly donor for years, I recall the dark days in 1997(?) and began my contributions then. I do hope that we step up and provide the dollars so CKUA will continue being a large part of Alberta's music & arts life.
Time for me to step up. Sharing this broadcast to appeal to my circle of friends.
great radio!!!!
Done, a small contribution
Can barely hear this and I am not old!!!
Please redo!!❤
It's unfortunate that those multiple thousands who listen for free most likely did not watch this. That's where the majority of needed $s should come from.
Thankfully this did go on air, and I suspect will a few times more.
I will follow suit
I wish you all the best CKUA, and hoping that you can achieve the goal maybe more.
Just donated, all the best, folks.
Why is the province constipated?
They have "other priorities"
I am signing up for a monthly donation and I have shared this video and my love for CKUA on my social media! I always planned on becoming a donor this year and now I super duper am!
Please everyone, share this youtube link on your social media. Every cent helps.
Hey CBC just got another $42 million in the federal budget on top of their already shockingly high amount of funding, but stations like this are in dire shape? And we're all broke from paying an increasingly high carbon tax.
This came as a shock. As I understand it, a much beloved radio service was saved from closure by it’s devoted listeners; and, remains a success when measured against other radio services. But it has been burdened with debt and expenses which now drain its cash reserves and threaten its existence. This is a Board and management failure of profound dimension. In pray the listening audience will save the station again; and, that a more responsible Board will not endanger this cultural treasure yet again.
why not go with advertising? Even CBC had to do it!
they do advertise already.
Just curious…how much money did you spend on the creation of this video? I suspect it wasn’t cheap. You may want to look at other spending issues before begging the public to save your butts. Just my opinion.
OMG - REALLY? Making a video nowadays is cheap cheap. Send them money.....
I don't understand why you think a person standing still reading a script into a camera for 8 minutes would cost much of anything.
Oh, and they've been a donor-funded for awhile now, so not sure what your comment about "begging the public" has to do with anything either. They have donation drives all the time.
Don't listen to ckua often but it seems I'm hearing more garbage. What I would not classify as music. Sometimes though something unique with a wonderful melody but not often. I asked a question not long ago. Has ckua gone Woke? Never got an answer.
CKUA was woke before you knew what the word meant. They've always been about accepting all people, from all communities, only asking kindness, acceptance, and love of music.
It's unfortunate you don't have the understanding of what the world of music means to everyone. CKUA is not a cookie cutter loop of the same narrow sound to appeal to a niche demographic, run only on maximizing advertising profits. If that is what you like, find one of those limited radio stations, and do not expose yourself here.
Oh ok, I've offended you. That's fine. However your conclusions are wrong but you have clearly exposed yourself.
@@johnki325 'Garbage' to you is 'music' to others. Go away
@@trenthowell26 John is correct to an extent. Still the best radio station out there by far but leave the 'progressive' politics out of the programming. Not everybody who wants to donate is from the far left of the spectrum and many Albertans would love to contribute but while the wokiness continues, CKUA is likely missing a target market.
