I don't think you people are considering the fact that Bramblestar may not have fully forgiven Squirrelflight for lying about Jay, Holly, and Lion. Lots of people are saying that she should've chosen Ashfur instead of Brambleclaw, but in reality she would've been better off with neither. Face it, both of them are abusive. Bramblestar's got a huge thirst for power over his mate, manipulates her and (verbally/mentally) abuses her. Ashfur isn't much better. He couldn't handle a simple rejection for crying out loud! Pairing Squirrelflight with Ashfur wouldn't be doing her any favors. If he'd go as far to try to burn her adopted children in a forest fire due to unrequited love alone, imagine what he'd do to her for having an opinion that differed from his own and not fully submitting to him. The tragic truth is that Brambleclaw AND Ashfur are toxic.

The Erin’s seriously need to do something about this relationship. Back in The New Prophecy, they made it seem like Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight were meant to be together with Leafpool’s vision of them walking together across the lake, but now it seems that it’s all falling apart. Many fans aren’t happy with this relationship anymore weather they blame Squirrelflight or Bramblestar because of it. The authors need to realize what’s going on and what to do about it
i still think that in the upcoming books they can fix the relation ship. I think Squirrelfight's hope was ment to send a message to the reader about toxic relationships

Its been a while since I've read the books, I started from the beginning some years back, but the Erins always seemed to have an issue with relationships. A lot of the time they're forced in with no substance. It becomes very...fanficish, existing only for drama or just to lead to kits and then hardly be touched on again. Reading the mangas as well, when you evaluate the relationships they really tend to have a lot of issues, and there have definitely been abusive relationships in it. They love putting relationships into the books in order to keep the generations going or drama alive, but they definitely don't have the best way of doing it. And a lot of them...same story told over and over again. How many forbidden couples have there been up to this point? Chances are another one is in the works.
I hope they don't end up together. It's better that they break off things and stay broken. Just become clanmates. Maybe friends.
Leafpool's vision and Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw- how could I forget that? They were destined to be together, however reality turned out so differently. I don't think it matters. After everything they've been through, it hardly seems like they can go back to a loving pair of trusted and respected mates.
Everything that happened to them has put a strain and challenge to their relationship, and how did they act? They were distrustful towards one another, there was loss of respect, and etc. In Bramblestar's Storm, their relationship seemed to be repaired, but Squirrelflight's Hope just made everything awful again. Some of the quotes that Bright Guardian Akira chose really made me doubt that Bramblestar still loves Squirrelflight.
I hardly believe he loves her. I think that fiery passion has run out. I mean sure, love and compassion, basically your bond with someone, grows when you and your loved ones are in danger, but for Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw? They've jumped hurdles together but were missing the last few. Maybe StarClan saw that they were destined together- that they believed that free, fiery, and passionate Squirrelflight would make a good mate to the misunderstood, loyal, and brave Brambleclaw, as they saw how things went when they were younger and more able to commit themselves to each other. Now though, I hope they're not mates anymore and I hope they won't just get together all that easily. It'll show that some relationships aren't meant to last, and if someone is as toxic as Brambleclaw to you, leave them. Leave them for good.
This is a sign that squirrelflight is in a *bad relationship.*

I'm not a big fan of Squirrelflight because of the Ashfur X Squirrelflight ship and how she treated him, but I dont really want her to suffer from Bramblestar. But on the other hand, I always wanted her to feel the pain she caused Ashfur. I never thought that I was going to say this but, I actually feel bad for Squirrelflight which I didn't think I anyone could ever feel for her (that was my old opinion)

Bramblestar was "good" when he was concentrating on proving himself to Thunderclan back when he was a young warrior, but when Firestar died, he completely stopped thinking about it, which is why he kinda started showing signs of being like Tigerclaw/star in the end.

If you ship Ashfur with Squirrelflight, you hate her.
And if you ship her with Bramblestar you hate her too!

The Fluffy Nickit personally I thought that Ashfur and squirrelflight were a better couple, but after that fire scene, bramblestar was better, THEN after I read the new prophecy and I read squirrelflight’s hope, and I don’t think that she needs a mate.

@@FabulousFeathertail Honestly, I can’t agree with you, Squrrielflight was honestly a great character, she cared about her clan and even some rouges. And the leader, who should have known better and is a LEADER, who probably has most control over his choices, chose to abuse her and blame her for what wasn’t her fault. And the reason she lied? To protect her sister, who could have gotten exiled or worse. SqurrielFlight. cared more than Bramble in a lot of the chapters in Squrrielflight’s Hope. It was never her fault for protecting her sibling, and when she nearly died and had a choice? Chose to live for Bramblestar and her clan. I see no point in hating Squrrielflight. She did absolutely nothing wrong, and only did so for the best.
Okay people, i haven’t read past “Omen of the Stars: The Sign of the Moon”, so i’ll need you guys to list some possible tom mates for Squirrelflight from the newer books. ( Cuz i want Squirrelflight to have another litter, as she said she wanted. )

Edit: it’s been 9 months and I still agree with my opinion, Bramblestar had no right to be so cruel to Squirrelflight, Bramblestar was a character I really liked, he had character, he wanted to prove himself to his clan mates and not be effected by his father’s legacy
But this sudden twist with him being verbally abusive took a very different turn with his character
And like I previously said I’m glad he has started being nicer to Squirrelflight in the new books (even if for a short period of time)

I think They're doing it to make it a bit more realistic. Not all relationships are perfect. But it is hard to read. Atleast we can learn what to look out for so we don't get into situations like these in our lives.

Holy heck! I had no idea Squirrelflight’s Hope was actually a good book. I just thought it was a cash-in on Leafpool’s death but perhaps it means more than that. But when did Bramblestar become so cruel? Was he always as bad as his father was? Bramblrstar’s an enigma and I should definitely make a Cat Analysis on him. Thanks for the idea, Mr. Akira!
Yes I think he is just like his dad but tryed to prove himself not to be by acting nice till her got Firestars trust to be deputy and wait for Firestar to die so when he is leader he can act like how he actually is because he is in command now and the clan cant do anything about it

Maybe, but he seemed pretty embarrassed of his father’s actions. It doesn’t make sense why he would be like him, on purpose or not. Perhaps Bramblestar was under so much pressure after Firestar’s death he did whatever he could to keep the respect of his clan mates in order to prove himself to them. Maybe he is like Onestar, not Tigerstar. I really should look into that.

BrambleStar was never a good mate, nor a good cat really. It was just quieter until then. Honestly until the fire scene, AshFur was 100% the better option. Tbh might even still be. I’d rather an over attached and unstable boyfriend than a manipulative and abusive one.

Bramblestar reminds me of my ex so much it's insane. I've been with his for three years and only got away yesterday, I feel like Squirrelflight has been with bramblestar for so long she feels like she will be nothing without him, it's really hard to get out of a relationship like that specially if you've with your partner for this long, and what makes it worse is that the authors want us to think bramblestar is a good cat. Ashfur would have been better, everyone in Squirrelflight's life pushed her to bramblestar even tho she was into ashfur, specially the authors, they wanted to make bramblestar look like the good guy- I'm not saying what ashfur did was ok, but it only happened because the authors wanted bramblestar to look good, ashfur and Squirrelflight were chill during their actual relationship-

Try watching the whole video because it has a lot of good information (not trying to put you down or anything) but he wants Squirrelflight to ALWAYS agree with her. Read Squirrelflight's Hope too. He's honestly just the worst. He emotionally and verbally abused her, and he tries to assert his dominance in an emotionally violent way with cruel words, talking down to her, telling her her judgement isn't good enough when she tried to stop a pointless battle, and so much more.
Brambleclaw/star has always been my least favorite cat. Not only his POV was absolutely boring, he treated Squirrelflight (who is one of my favorite cats) like garbage. In New Prophecy, Bramble never listen to her, always making everything about himself when she was pointing out that Hawkfrost was evil. He made her feel uncomfortable around himself, that’s why she went around with Ashfur, who was treating her better, listened to her and actually was a good mate choice. Brambleclaw was suppose to support her as her partner, but only treated her badly and was selfish.
And the same thing happened in Squirrelflight‘s hope. And I just can’t help, but absolutely hate Bramble. He is a no good leader, mate and cat.

@Hollystar 470 Oh Bramble is definitely abusive. His behaviors are really bad in Squirrelflight's Hope. He doesnt listen to anything she says and wants to have pure authority over her depite her being deputy. He gaslights her and basically says "Im sorry you feel that way" after he verbally assaults her.
But they also have lots of conflicts of interest and cant seem to work together at all. I dont know what Bramble was thinking when he made her deputy. It should have been Lionblaze or Ivypool imo.
I love Squirrelflight and I would give anything to see Squirrelstar but she does not deserve to be treated like that. :(
The writers need to realize that they are writing a toxic relationship between two vital characters within the series. Squirrelflight needs to leave Bramblestar, and I think she should become Squirrelstar soon.

Squirrelflight entered the gloomy den, her gaze not giving anything away. Bramble star was hunched over in his nest, his pelt barely looking groomed. Squirrelflight approached, and Bramblestar perked up and swiveled his head around to meet her cold gaze.
“We need to talk Bramblestar.” Squirrelflight meowed, her tail lashing, and the last argument still fresh in her mind.
Bramblestar turned to Squirrelflight and twitched an ear, his face looked dark in the gloom of the den. Squirrelflight lashed her tail and breathed in before her eyes turned fiery.
“We need to talk about us, Bramblestar. We can’t go on like this!” She hissed, feeling all of her frustration start to boil over.
Bramblestar’s eyes suddenly turned cold, and he growled, “What do you mean?”
Squirrelflight bristled. How could a cat be so blind? She stepped forward and mewed firmly, “I don’t want to be mates anymore. You do nothing but silence me like a kit and neglect your clan! I practically do all of the work. As a leader and a mate, you treat those privileges worse than rotten prey.” The last sentence was more of a growl, and she glared at Bramblestar, not going to back down anymore.
Bramblestar flattened his ears and spat, “I can’t have my deputy constantly questioning my authority! You’re doing nothing but putting the clan in danger with your risky plots and kittish behavior!” He bristled, but so did Squirrelflight.
“No, YOU are the problem Bramblestar. As your deputy and mate it’s my duty to question you. It’s my duty to fill in the gaps where there’s no reason in a leader. It’s my duty to care for you!” She hissed. Bramblestar’s furious glare suddenly turned sad.
“Squirrelflight. I’m trying to do what’s good for the clan. I…I just need more support from-“
“I’ve tried supporting you! But I can’t support a cat who does nothing but sit in their den and let their deputy and medicine cats take care of any trouble or responsibilities. This has to be a two way relationship!” Squirrelflight mewed, her anger boiling over now. She wasn’t just talking about a leader deputy relationship.
Bramblestar widened his eyes in shock, “Squirrelflight-“
“No! I’m done having you manipulate my feelings. Im done being walked on by my own unfaithful mate! Im done BEING your mate.” Her tail was bushed to twice its size. Part of her was shocked at her outburst, but the other half of her was turning lighter, like a great weight was being lifted off her heart.
Bramblestar stepped toward Squirrelflight with a tired and sad expression, but that’s what he’s done a million times before. She wouldn’t fall prey to it this time. She turned around abruptly and stalked out of the den. Her clan mates were staring at her with worry and shock, Leafpool was waiting outside the entrance to camp and gave her a questioning and worried look. Squirrelflight flattened her pelt as she went up to her sister. They both walked at a steady pace toward the lake. Squirrelflight remembered the conversation she and Leafpool had had the night before, about her and Bramblestar. Squirrelflight had consulted desperately with her sister, and Leafpool had suggested ending the mate relationship, she knew how terrible Bramblestar made Squirrelflight feel.
After a long moment of comforting silence, Leafpool mewed, “That took great strength sister. And I’m glad you took the courage to defy him. I know he’s never been the same since Ashfur, but… he was wrong to treat you like that.” She mewed softly, and Squirrelflight just focused ahead. She would sort things out with her leader later, but she felt her heavy heart finally be free. Leafpool was right, and her vision over the lake was wrong. Squirrelflight didn’t need any tom. She just needed herself, her family, and her clan. Suddenly, determination set in and she returned Leafpool’s sympathetic gaze with a look of hope before arriving at the lake. Things would finally be different.

I find it really interesting that in the beginning, Ashfur was the one who wanted to control her, while brambleCLAW was matching her fire, but now brambleSTAR is controlling her.

You know what I'd have done with this book? Make Ashfur haunt Squirrelflight in her dreams and Bramblestar console her like the good cat that the Erins wanted in the first place. This would be great foreshadowing for the Broken Code with Ashfur being the main villain and becoming the imposter Bramblestar. Sure, Bramblestar would still become angry, but only under circumstances that seem understandable, like say... I dunno, a hunting patrol from a rival clan on their territory or something.

I just...I loved Yellowfang (until she showed up inside EVERY FREAKING DREAM), and BramblePAW was good, yes, I loved him, but as soon as BrambleCLAW and furthermore, STAR, came, I just...didn't like him. Besides, if Brambleclaw was dead Hawkfrost wouldn't kill Firestar then to make Brambleclaw leader. And they could've just picked someone else to lead the clans to the New Lake, and Squirrelflight would probably choose Ashfur.

Yes, while this cruel Bramblestar is in Squirrelflight's POV, and therefore, possibly biased, it's bad enough that Squirrelflight thinks of him this way. Even if she only *thinks* Bramblestar treats her like trash, even if she only *thinks* that he doesn't care about her opinion, the fact that she thinks it means that she truly sees Bramblestar like this. And no matter how a relationship actually is, if it's perceived as abusive by any party involved, then it's a bad relationship. *Nobody should ever feel like their significant other doesn't care about them. Ever.*
I never liked Bramblestar in the first place. Sure, he was okay in PO3, but the way he treats Squirrelflight? With the amount of abusive relationships my friends have gone through, it disgusts me with his actions.
But do you justify Squirrelflight lying to him about Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Hollyleaf? See Squirrelflight is no better.

idea: at a meeting a rouge convinces the clans to have a vote on whether bramblestar should be punished as his clan mates see fit (exile, demotion, losing all but one life, etc) and he gets yeeted out of his tyrannical position and squilf gets some sympathy for once in her life >:3
If you think about it, then Squirrelflight gave up her own happiness in StarClan to go back to Bramblestar. If she had stayed in StarClan, then she could be a mother. She could look after Dandelionkit and Juniperkit and be the second mother she wants. She could look after loads of kits. Like Flickerkit, Mosskit, etc. She could of been the second mother to all these kits, but she chose not to. It's kinda like with Sandstorm. She regretted not having more kits when she could. Squirrelflight doesn't want to be like that.
Also the part where Bramblestar tell Squirellflight "You're deputy isn't it enough" when she brought the topic that she wants to have another litter makes me thinks how sometimes people tell women that they can't have a career and children.

this started to pull tears from me. I was in a toxic relationship before, and the first minute started to replay those memories. Everything mentioned was exactly what I went through. Feeling worthless, feeling less. When i cried he didn't care. He manipulated me. he threatened me, he *hurt* me. Honestly, Tigerstar2 acts the same way to Dovewing for most of Tigerheart’s shadow yet no-one seems to be as focused on it. I think there is one line where he literally thinks, “do I love her more than my clan? Even if I don’t, I have to make her think I do” now in the newer books he is a lot better, but before that he was almost as bad

I may definitely be wrong, but I feel like there is always a character vaguely like this in pretty much every book. Maybe not, but I sometimes feel like the the Erin’s sometimes lose track of the personalities of cats as soon as they become a major protagonist or character. I could definitely be wrong though.

Bramblestar forgave Squirrelflight in The Last Hope, but they hadn't become mates again until the end of Bramblestar's Storm. He even literally thinks near the start that "if he had a mate he wouldn't have to sleep alone in his den". Spending time with Jessy made him realize how much he loved Squirrelfight.
