If it happens to be middle of the day on a hot day with two-man crew, do you recommend first guy rinsing with pressure washer to cool off the roof before second guy starts softwashing?

Exactly the education I was look for. There’s only two types of roof on Guam. Painted or unpainted medal or concrete.
Cool Vid! We do a lot of metal roof coating so we pressue wash. But the soft wash surly has its place. Looks nice!

First metal roof job I took I had no idea what to expect with the ribs. They are definitely much more difficult as far as multiple applications, applying from different angles, and the runoff with no gutters. I took this massive metal roof job and had no idea. It was 3 barns and they were huge. Took us 3 days cuz we didn’t know what we were doing. Done a bunch since then though and I’m not scared of them anymore lol
Hey Joe I realize it was 3 months ago you commented but I saw you mentioned you’ve washed some metal roofs with out gutters. What do you do to make sure you don’t kill the customers grass with all of that run off? Decrease your SH mix, wash the grass before during and after?
@@kielandsiebold5596 start spraying at the top of the roof and only do like the top 1/4 and let as much run down as possible. Then light sprays lower and lower letting as much run down as you can. Have a second person with a water hose constantly rinsing. I feel it’s easier to burn grass with gutters due to high concentrations in one area as opposed to spread out.
@@joeberner648 I noticed he said you never want it to get dry, so after he lays the coat down does he rinse it off afterwards with water? or does he do another coat on it of bleach and surfactant and water
@@cody-zo6 if you get a lot of rain you probably don’t have to rinse but a lot of times on metal rinsing may be a good idea to avoid unnecessary corrosion. But idk 🤷♂️😂

At my regular 8-5 our crews power wash thousands of metal roof square footage yearly with water only. They do clean up okay but SH and surfactant would be a game changer. My supervisor is just not open to new suggestions, he's old school. Good thing he's almost retiring 😊

@@markreynolds7890 yes but that’s why you don’t let it dry and you make sure you wash the chem off with just water after your done cleaning it
There's just not a lot of information on galvalume. And hard to tell the difference between galvanized or galvalume at least for me at this stage in the game. I've seen some suggestions on cleaning galvalume. Some say use a HW mix or DS and always rinse and pre wet surface. Others say never use SH, just use soap and a soft brush. And others just pass on those jobs altogether.

The item that is attached to the end of your hose. You are holding it in your hand like a hose nozzle you called it a 12 Volt. What is that? And where can I get one to attach to my hose? Thank you, this was really informative. Can this service be used on a 15-year old metal factory-colored/painted roof that we unfortunately used a pressure washer to remove algae on it about 4 years ago? It looks powdery now and getting “dirty” again. Is it too late to use this product now to clean the algae forming again?

I've been doing the same!! 1% sh on a roof like this takes several applications followed by a lot of scrubbing. So many forum experts say, "never go above 1% on metal" so I've been afraid to try. I have one of these on Tuesday, thanks for the knowledge that I can crank it up a bit

Hey man love the videos not sure if the screws you guys use in the USA are different to Australia but over here we pressure Wash a metal roof because if the screws ether have a scratch or haven’t been replaced in 10 years all the screw’s will rust over time

How can you tell if it’s Galvalume or a regular metal roof in case the customer doesn’t know which they have?

@MMA_kid galvalume in raw tin unfinished, he’s working with a finished product that’s painted.
It will look like a galvanized barrel. With that fish scales effect.
Galvalume can still be cleaned just need to really rinse it

Great video! Appreciate it. One question, I have a roof that is the same color as the one in your video. Same build up as well. What do you guys do if you hit it 2x's with a 5% mix and still doesn't clean? Thanks!
Can the solution remove the shiny protective coating on the painted metal roof and aluminum trim around garage doors? We had our roof cleaned and we are left with a dull roof that is only 7 years old and dull run marks on the trim around the garage doors. The washing company tried hard to sell us a "treatment" on their last visit.

Here in Australia 🇦🇺 we don’t often see painted metal roofs. Metal roofs tend to be standard galvanised corrugated iron or powder coated colourbond. What % would you recommend for powder coated colourbond.

When you say keep the roof wet don’t let it dry, do you mean keep it wet with more solution or just water?
I did my first metal roof 4 days ago and at first it looked great but the more it dried out it started leaving a residue. What should I do to get rid of the residue?
what about overspray onto the other side of the roof . how did or do you deal with that . to prevent it from drying on the roof?

Hi Cody, Thanks so much for the info. I have a customer who is worried about us using SH on their metal roof here in the PNW because their roof is part of a 14,000 gallon rainwater catchment system. If we disconnect the downspouts, route the runoff to controlled area, and rinse the roof extremely thoroughly, do you have any concerns with using SH on a roof like this if they will be using it for capturing their drinking water?
At 5 percent mix should we be watering down the grass? If so, for how long?
At any mix I rinse before, during, and after. Better to be safe now than sorry later.

I wouldn’t rinse with 12v on a typical job. I’d be using my PW and a ball valve.

Best? Elbow grease. A soft broom, dishwashing detergent and a friend to continually spray the water.

Dumb question but is there a difference between galvanized and glavalum when comes to soft washing it? The customer stated the roof is steel that was put on many years ago. Would it be galvanized? Also the customer sites that the roof has been cool sealed. Trying to figure out if I should take this job or not.
Galvalum and galvanized is same.
But if it’s cool sealed, you can probably clean it

Did you know that oxy clean nutralizes chlorine bleach, they nutralize each other.

There is one part right before you turned on the mix where you say do not use bleach, but then you turn around and say I am turning on the bleach now, I am glad you said not to use a pressure washer because that is what I had intended, I am also wondering about using a Vinegar mix, will that work without hurting plants down below, I have gutters but there are flower beds below full of all different plants so I want to be careful not to use anything that is going to kill vegetation.

Why not use a soft brush?I have a red metal roof.The only way they could make it look good was to use a soft brush and get up there.Just asking,I know chemical are expensive!!
Thought it was noted not to use bleach on a metal roof...but then he said more than once that there was bleach in his solution ...or am I mistaken?

What surfactant do you use on a roof and what percentage do you use it with on a 55gal barrel with 10% SH?
Same percent like he said. I’ll normally use 3-4%. And for surfactants laundry detergent works best. Any brand works :)

I've been trying to do mine with a pool brush/pole by hand with soap water. I had no idea it would just sheet off like this adding some bleach....
