The day PBS sung this song just few minutes after his mother death. Pbs told this on several platforms. One of the most melodious songs in Kannada cinema.
Nice tidbit ! It is such a pity that the mellifluous voice of PBS was not used more in Tamil and Kannada. I met him a few times and he mentioned that there was more politics in the cine industry than in politics itself.
@@suresh1957 You are completely wrong. PBS rendered very good memorable songs in Tamil in Gemini ganesan and Muthuraman starred films. and to some extent in MGR starred films He is next to TMS in Tamil film industry. Only after the entry of S.P. balasubramanian his chances reduced .
@@krishnaswamynarasimhan6220 It is not the quality of the songs I was talking about but the quantity. From the mid 70s, the marketshare of PBS declined for a variety of reasons. The arrival of SPB as you mention is one but there were many others too. Kannada actor Raj Kumar started singing thereby replacing PBS. Additionally, the singer - star pairing was jeopardised as newer stars arrived and replaced veterans like MGR, Shivaji GAnesan, Gemini Ganesan etc.
@@suresh1957 That is quite common in film industry to encourage new talents. Once upon a time A.M. Raja rendered memorable songs mostly in Gemini Ganeshan movies and later on P.B. srinivas replaced him after his death. A.M.Raja is such a versatile singer his voice is even more melodious than PBS. Changes takes place everynow and then and we have to adapt to such changes. In kannada raj kumar replaced PBS. Eventhough Raj kumar voice is melodious but it cannot be compared with PBS. PBS is a professional singer. His contribution to tamil and kannada film industry has to be remembered for longtime to come. In the same way TMS is a legend and his contribution is notable for future generations.

PBS was chosen by Kannada music directors for singing for Rajkumar's many films. His songs were popular and helped the great success of Rajkumar's movies. But after 1974 Rajkumar started singing and replaced PBS. He should have concentrated only on acting. But he became singer and PBS was boycotted from the Kannada Industry. It is highly pathetic that a celebrated singer was neglected by Rajkumar. PBS lost opportunity and he was forgotten by the Kannada Industry. His last days were highly pitiable. It was unfortunate that the divine and renowned singer PBS was sidelined by the industry.
PBS- S.Janaki pair gave wonderful songs in Kannada than Telugu and Tamil. In Telugu Kantasala-Susheela pair and in Tamil TMS-Susheela pair did well at the same time. All of these singers sang in many languages. But S.Janaki is a more skilled singer I believe like PBS. I am from Southern TN. Always like to listen good songs particularly southern state songs.

Sorry, your info is wrong. 'Gangai Nadiyoram' song from movie Varaprasadham was composed by R.Govardhanam master. Ilayaraja did only the interludes & BGM for the songs and the BGM for the whole movie. The compositions were done by Govardhanam himself. Raja's name also appears as 'assistant' in the titles of the movie.
IR himself mentioned this in his interview for Ceylon radio. 'Unalagai kandu kondaal pengaluke aasai varum' from movie 'Poovum Pottum', a similar melody is composed by R. Govardhanam, a few years earlier.
