The Vision Pro is the first time I’ve been genuinely excited to see how it plays out. The potential uses for memories, mapping, therapy, crime scene capture, mechanical assistance, etc… is just going to be amazing. Many of us can only see this through the lens of experiences had but somewhere there is going to be some kid who gets this and dreams up a use case that will change the course of film making or human interaction and shared experiences. Truly an exciting time to be alive and see the potential birth of a new standard in tech.
3d stereoscopic camera stuff has been around for a long time. They made more than just that phone back then.. they made many cameras as well. Tech was plenty there for capture. Like then it’s still an issue of audience. This is no better unless all phones go passive 3d for multi viewers and or headsets become the mainstream and they are years behind that if ever.

if anyone can move the dial on 3D / VR / AR at this time, it's Apple ... and they seem to have all the pieces in place to make things accessible without being overly technical
I hope devs can make this format compatible with other devices, if it isn’t already. This will make it so much easier to make 3D videos without having to use a separate, expensive camera. Like the Insta360 for example
The iPhone15 Pro uses two different lenses for capturing spatial video, one being an ultra-wide lens and the other a primary lens. Although both can independently record 4K video, their fields of view differ. If the images for the left and right eyes need to match, the ultra-wide lens's footage must be cropped, leading to a loss of pixels. Similarly, the primary lens also needs to lose some pixels to synchronize, resulting in the final output being limited to 1080P video. That's how I understand it.
The pre-rollout of this particular feature was a smart move. Teased at WWDC, but then bringing back in media/influencers to get a lesson on spatial video, and then sending them out into the world, and then more recently having them view their own spatial videos and panoramas in AVP was great to help get the word out what it was like, tips and tricks to get good content, and set it up for success when AVP does launch early next year. I didn't see a video from Scott Stein about that third AVP experience (Brian Tong was on top of it and released his videos close to when they occurred). I hope there's improvement on the 1080p at 30fps, because even though that's good quality, it's not 4k quality, and has limitations when it comes to distance and low light. Rumors around the ultra wide getting the 48mp sensor would be a match to the main camera, so maybe with that much data we'll get 4k 60fps? I want to take as much spatial video as I can, but also don't want to re-shoot for better quality. (I guess that's how it's always been though - we'll still watch 360p vid if it's important.) Early 2024 can't come soon enough!
Bridget, One of my favorite things after shooting regular videos of family events is to "lift" or screen shot still photos from the videos. Is this still possible when shooting in spatial video mode? Thanks and always love your videos.
So what your saying is Apple just renamed 3d 1080p side by side video to spatial video 😂 Why in the promotion videos does it show the position changing ? Isn’t that Falsely giving the impression that spatial video has 6 DoF.

4k displays in the headset only apply if your watching full immersion 180/360 video. If 4k is the whole display and you watching a vr screen inside of that world it's only using 720p-1080p worth of pixels.
I don’t get that this can only be watched inside the Apple Vision. Why don’t use the iPhone 15 Pro’s gyro to utilize the 3D effect in the videos? This will also be amazing on the iPhone 15 Pro’s screen. And make a 3D effect on a 2D screen.
@@Tangental I hope that this is not the case. Because the functionality are there, they just need to use it. And the iPhone 15 Pro will be an amazing way to see 3D videos.
