Am I imagining it or is it every single one of these YT videos praising HD2 always playing sub level 7 difficulty?
I enjoy HD2 with friends but game has much more issues youtubers miss and mostly don't mention cause alot of 'em play it shortly and don't experience true state of the game... Like enemy spawning right behind you 1 sec as you turn camera or spawn on top of you, spawn 3 titans/10+ chargers/10+spitters/ton of fodder in ~30seconds, constant crashes, only light armor worth using because other armor doesn't provide described bonuses, only few weapons/stratagems worth using, performance hits with every patch, progression (rss gain) not being tracked, etc...
This to me is almost same as any AAA release, unfinished product thrown out for the masses to bug test instead of going Early Access release and fixing most of the issues there. Them having low prices in MTX store and that single thing override all the other issues is baffling.
And don't get me started on all the 🦜s constantly saying: "They are suffering from success!" while they have a deal with Sony that indicates Sony had trust this game would do well yet devs pocketed the money and got "surprised" by player count.

Hey on the topic of Hell Divers 2, why don't you talk about the invasive Anti-cheat? That's what keeping me and a lot of other players from playing the game. I would like to play the game but I'm not installing malware to play it. Hell one of the devs made a reddit post doubling down on the AC saying that everyone does it. I'm sorry but they have the backing of Playstation and you're telling me that they couldn't afford better servers and a more secure Anti-cheat that's not a rootkit for a PVE game. If we're gonna call out AAA games for laziness, then it should be the same for AA. Especially when it comes to invasion of privacy. The fact that people are sweeping it under the rug is disgusting. UA-camrs that I thought had integrity have really disappointed me in this situation.

One of the biggest selling points to me with AAA games used to be the fidelity of the graphics. But Graphics have largely been so normalized across the board now that that selling point just doesn't matter as much anymore.

      @kevinmach730 2 місяці тому +49

'I have been saying for years, the games with best graphics are all so good now, it's going to be difficult to distinguish a game on that alone. As it relates to VR, as an example, the first 10 titles you played, it was so amazing to look around in every direction and feel like you're in a different dimension or place. But after a while, that novelty wears off to an extent, and the game itself better have some content behind it.

    • @urnix69

Heck, GradeAUnderA stated the very same thing 7 years ago.

Pretty graphics only get you so far. It’s what you do with them. There are plenty of games that have beautiful visuals but the world you’re in feels lifeless, empty, and barren. It’s keeping you from immersing yourself. Think of games like BG3, RDR2, and other titles where the art team has focused so much on making that world feel alive around you.

I hopped on after a couple weeks of not gaming with other stuff in life coming up and was greeted by a constant flow of colorful, odd characters wielding swords. There were melee characters and rainbow operators constantly and I was just so bored with it. I've been avoiding AAA games like a plague for the better part of a decade now, only getting a handful of titles on a sale because I wanted to play with my friends who play them. I've been way more interested in the indie market, where you can always find new games that put AAA to shame not just by being more fun and more creative, but also releasing it in a playable state, and all that on a shoestring budget. I'm really happy for games like helldivers and palworld making a big splash in the mainstream and showing the gaming community what gems we can get if we refuse to settle for less.

I used to be a solo dev and my app was acquired, brought onto a team and that IP was used as the basis to create the 2.0 of the app, with a larger team everything became more expensive, and everything was also slower, what I was able to do in an afternoon now takes meetings and PR reviews and standup discussions, something that is 20 lines of code could take days to implement. There are a lot of perks to having a team of course, we're still small and relatively agile, but I can only see this get worse exponentially with team size and number of people with fingers in the cookie jar.
If you have all rounded skills to do everything, just do it, make the game you want to make and sell it, give Steam or Meta the 30% and keep the rest (minus server costs if you're doing MP), the reason why these AAAAA games need to have so much monetization system in place is it's simply impossible to feed a team of 500 very highly paid devs and various levels of managers with traditional waterfall models that just sells one copy of one game by the end of years long development, but if your game is just like a few dudes like BattleBit, Minecraft in its early days, Valheim, you cut through all the bullshit and just get to building the experience your users care about. Games should be made by a few people who care, not corporations.

My only fear is the actual longevity of these games.. many of my friends have become burnt out with Lethal Company, and I feel as though Palworld has disappeared as soon as it appeared. Remember Buckshot Roulette? That was popular for all of 3 days before it disappeared (which is more understandable considering it’s a one and done experience.)

Ready or Not is one prime example of that in which despite having its price increased after reaching full release, the core problems with that game still persist. It used to be a tactical police FPS title that devolved into a military FPS game in which you have to shoot immediately unless you want to lose to NPC enemies that have insane reflexes. Why even bother having police/SWAT units at this point? Might as well play 6 Days in Fallujah or something else.

Alot of those bigger developers have been copying ideas that seem to work for other devs (trend chasing), and trying to make many of those games live service. It's so nice to see that indie devs with fresh and exciting ideas are getting rewarded for their efforts. Great vid man!

I heavily agree. I've been playing on my old PSP and tbh im having so much fun along with Helldivers 2 and Lethal with friends. I'm also an avid Clash of Clans player and spend way less on content than I spend on the other triple-A games.

The way I understand this is that it’s a cycle, like palworld said, “games are meant to be played enjoyed and put away, we won’t hate you for leaving g us and we’ll be happy when you come back for more”. Something along those lines, anyways games are meant to be enjoyed in the moment, though may be sad we can’t experience the first time playing them again we enjoy it laying games that have genuine passion and care for us. Because of this the cycle of games is rolling around again with old games being let go and new ones shining in the darkest of times, I for one am glad, for what doesn’t die festers, we saw that from Minecraft’s recent mod vote

Bought this game 2 years ago and love it. It seems to pair the good elements of a lot of games we as a community enjoy without forcing you to buy season passes/microtransactions
    - great graphics
    - PvE with team killing (Halo Spartan Ops)
    - timed events that reward teamwork (Destiny 1 and 2)
    - no “pay to win” weapons, time invested in the game is required instead (all shooters pre ~2015)
    - serious scenario but make it goofy (Far Cry series)
    - no premium season pass
    - varying, non linear missions on open maps (Warzone DMZ)
There’s so much to love about this game. If I have to make 1 small criticism I wish the game had vehicles like the warthog or mongoose in Halo just to speed up the game a little as running from end to end can feel a bit boring at times but at the same time vehicles might make the game too easy and/or hurt the pacing of the game. I’m happy how it is now

A big component that seems to be missing from all fields, not just game dev, is passion for your trade. It’s obvious that the leaders of these companies have succumb to money instead of building quality products that is worth our time. Profit is an essential driver for keeping afloat a company, building a quality product will increase the amount of people that talk about your product that people and increase profits. People who are leading these companies should have a passion for the product that they are building instead of first priority being profit.
The lack of passion that I have seen crop up has marginally increased since I was in high school, ~ a decade, and it has been disheartening to say the least. I hope we can find that drive again instead of the complacency that I see day in and day out.

I've been gaming since the old days. It's refreshing to play a game that's cheaper than your average AAA game, you don't need to grind for weapons and gear, and they don't push micro transactions on you.
I've been playing hell divers 2 and it's been a blast.

its somewhat similar to the gaming market crash in the 80s and happening for the same reason, companies just putting out a tide of half baked barely playable slop with the intention of making the most money out of the least effort
the only difference is instead of crashing outright the market is just moving away from them and into the indie sphere
the future of gamings looking bright lads

That makes it well worth the money in my case.

I think the average consumer doesn’t spend much mental energy editorializing the industry, much less factoring the dynamics or intentions of development companies into their play choices.
The simplest answer is people pick games because they look like a fun and enjoyable experience, and if they turn out to be so, they keep playing them, they talk about it, and it catches on. If it doesn’t, then they don’t keep playing, and it doesn’t catch on.
Someone knowledgeable about game development could correct me here, but it seems like the barrier to entry in cost and resources to make a quality game is shrinking over time, (at least it does to me given the increasing quality and quantity of indie titles coming out over the years - a bit like the film industry in the 60s and 70s as filmmaking equipment got cheaper and techniques and knowledge grew).
That being the case, over time indie titles are forming an increasing % of the total number of games being made, and therefore a great idea that becomes a game that knocks it out of the park like helldivers, is more likely to be an indie title - I don’t think it’s because of some common man’s revolt against profit motive of big companies.
There are still amazing AAA titles being made, they’re just becoming a smaller proportion of the total, as barriers to entry fall and competition increases.

    • @timjg1463
      @timjg1463 2 місяці тому +1

That’s not to discount the theory that companies crowbarring in monetization mechanisms has a negative impact on quality, that’s probably true (also should be expected - if the game costs more money, then they need more ways to recoup the cost and generate a return, otherwise why would anyone bother to finance them? It is a for-profit industry, after all), it’s just unlikely to be the main reason - don’t forget monetization/micro transactions aren’t unique to AAA titles - helldivers itself has a micro transaction element in it with “super credits” for purchasing new skins and “premium only” weapons, skins, and player ranks - that hasn’t stopped it from blowing out player numbers.

There are many talented and dedicated devs who work for the big companies but the problem is that the budget goes elsewhere: bloated administration, large office buildings, huge marketing campaigns, and useless top executives and market analysts who are only focused on how to squeeze more profit on a tighter deadline. I’m here for the indie renaissance.

I was saying to my gaming friends 7 or 8 years ago, all the innovation is in indie titles, they all agreed with me. The triple-A game industry is a tower of babel that's falling in front of our eyes. The best thing we can do is speak to them with our dollars and not give them money. We know when a title has good intentions and want to make a good game, triple-A titles don't want to make good games, they want to make money
