The pieces actually *made in Ireland*, whether food, beverage or commemorative pieces are worth more to own.
Yes, people are getting lowballed online because some is inherited and the owner does not care about it or worse, must sell it at a loss.
I have 3 limited signed, numbered pieces: 2 10" footed bowls and a tall artisan vase. In Waterford, the vase and bowl cost over $1000.00 and took 6 months to arrive.
I recently bought another commemorative 10" bowl, signed, numbered, etched and all original seal and packaging for 100.00 (ebay). Retail on bowl? 550.00.
I *use* my Waterford daily. I love and appreciate the rainbow fire and substantial weight. Holidays twinkle magically to celebrate the Light of the World.
At an estate sale, the real deal( not the TV stuff) is "worth" what someone is willing to pay.
For me, each authentic piece is a work of art. It has an intrinsic value that I can't quantify.
Shine on, House of Waterford! Buyer beware of the new stuff.
Anecdote: I accidentally dropped a Lismore goblet on the wooden kitchen floor while drying it. It bounced and rolled, unbroken.

It's mad coming across this as someone from Waterford. Back in the day pretty much every household in Waterford City had multiple pieces of Waterford Crystal as there was always someone you knew who worked at the factory and they were always giving it away. There's probably thousands worth of Waterford Crystal still gathering dust in houses here today, and maybe even more stored in boxes in attics.

He is right on value Im drinking a bit of nice port from a very old warterford goblet that I got for free they were going to give it to good will. Im happy to have it and use it. I love the energy and know it has history and Im giving it more history. But value in $ it does not have.

When Waterford went to Marquis it all went downhill from there, no longer exclusively handmade and mass produced now. The older genuine handmade unique Waterford items is what collectors like me look for, something that is not in production any longer. I have some of the most beautiful animal and bird figurines by Waterford not made any more and you will not see them in any store or home shopping network I think. Cheers.

I plan on buying a waterford bowl and vase on the secondhand market, and I'll only be considering pieces that are made in Ireland, extra points if they are "master cut"

Waterford is now owned by a private equity firm. We all know what that means: extract every ounce of value from the name while selling the company for parts and loading it artificially with debt until they walk away from the empty shell. It's basically an investor-friendly scam. I would only buy second hand, preferably with the older signature, which implies "made in Ireland".

My waterford itens are for me to use. They are much better than made-in-china decor pieces.
I have 6 vases, and tableware.

Waterford for quality craftsmanship in itself! Schooled from childhood-amazing I think and worth every penny. Would you talk about the other amazing quality craftsmanship from Ireland? Beleeck-did I spell that right? Thank you in advance.

Most Waterford crystal is not made in Ireland any more. Sure you can go on the factory tour and they will show you sports trophies and pieces of the Times Square new year's eve ball. Really everything you would use as homeware from wine glasses to vases are made in Fiskar's owned factories in Slovenia and Czech Republic. 99% of Waterford is not made in the Republic of Ireland.

I'm in the market for a new set of crystal drinking glasses to go with my new Waterford Newgrange Platinum dinnerware set. I've been looking at Waterford Lismore Essence glasses, and really like the platinum line with the platinum colored rim. Do you think a set of these might hold their resale value, say if I want to sell them in 30 years and the resale market still exists, or should I just not bother buying a premium brand and just go with the Marquis line? I will rarely use these and will retain the boxes. Thank you for your help!!

Or should I be looking at another brand, it doesn't have to be Waterford. Side question - Are there any American made crystal companies using American made glass? And if so, is the quality "high-end"? Thanks again!
