I really love how clean and organized your farm is. It really sets you apart. No old rusty unused equipment sitting around, no piles of junk. It just looks great.
Congrats to you and the wife on baby #2 hope everything goes well and may the baby be blessed with great health and we all know a “Great Family Too”…..take care
Just a thought, if you can find a plastic coolman cooler and cut out the end areas to allow for the piping, it should give protection for the pump from rain and help in keeping from freezing.
That molasses pump PUMP!! On the mower : The next plate on the left is all cracked up a the same place. looks like it's gonna loose that same part, as the one you are replacing, very soon.
The greatest compliment a dairy Farmer can give a dairy cow is "she was a good cow.." I know there are some people that will be upset with this cows outcome. This is farming..god bless our farmers. Eric great job of explaining the process.
I can tell from the way he talks about the cows that he truly does care about them and about how they are doing past just the income side of things. These cows live a fantastic life
60 years ago, when we fed molasses from 50 gal drums, the material was much higher viscosity. It was like a thick syrup. The material here looked something like water. When you were setting up the tank with the pump, I wondered how the pump would work with high viscosity molasses. Now, I understand why you know a pump would work. We used a paint mixer to mix 1/2 and 1/2 in 5 gal buckets (molasses/water), poured it on the hay. We only had 25 milking cows, and used one five gallon bucket of molasses per feeding. It was very heavy in the bucket. We often tasted the molasses as it poured from the drums - run some on our finger. No, it was not good to human taste. (maybe we had dirty fingers...? ;-) ) It was bitter.
The molasses area does look so much better now. Looking forward to seeing when baby number 2 shows up! How do you know how much molasses to put in? Thanks for the video.
Nice to see your doing some cross breeding Eric ,I’ve been doing it for 20 years and never regretted starting .I’m sure your aware of the work done in California which shows which breeds work best ,I’m I doing a 3 way cross with Holstein ,Scandinavian red & Montbeliarde ,best of luck with it 🇬🇧
Oh là là! Getting fancy adding French cattle genes into your herd! The Montbéliarde sounds like a really good breed to cross. Hope you have a lot of success and get a heifer soon! Your reaction when you flipped the molasses switch was priceless. Love your videos. Always interesting. Thanks Eric!
We experimented with crossing our Holsteins with Fleckvieh. We loved them so much that we are now crossing our whole herd Holstein X Fleckvieh X Montbeliard
And which bulls do you use im quite curious abou that. The montbeliardes are flipex and jeremiah at the moment and wizzard for the fleckviehs. Brows swiss bull is harvard a.t.m.
Hey Eric, I am not receiving a clear video. But from what I can see the transition looks real good. Thanks for being you...and for the video.. Keep up the good work....God Bless.....
Thanks for your time and work to present the great videos. They have variety, clarity, unique shots and are always presented with humility. Congratulations to you and your wife. Your children will be raised well as you were.
Ive been crossing some with jersey have really liked them milking 3 so far. Havent had mastitis or foot issues and breed amazingly easy! Been thinking about trying some other breeds aswell
I've found the problem with crossing with Jerseys is that the bull calves are worth near nothing compared to straight holstein calves, let alone black cross calves.
@@wreckandraceify that is true most cases. But ive been lucky and getting atleast 50 and sometimes 100 which is what i get for my straight holsteins. We have been keeping the angus crosses
It would be so fun if you bred some cows with the breed Norwegian Red, because that is some healthy ass cows. They produce a good amount of milk, and at the same time they are meaty cows. So here in Norway we use them primarily for milkproduction, but when they are done with their milking-duty and it’s time to «let them go», they become beef. They have a more meaty body than Holstein, and they still produce an impressive amount of milk. And they come in virtually every colour. It’s worth some time to research about!
Montbeliarde heifers turn into a excellent longevity cow, they don't produce what a holstein would in 1st or 2nd lactation, but give them time and they will produce the milk quantity and quality, just me mindful, they can sometimes have a temper 😂 all the best Eric from Sunny Wales (UK) your doing a great job 👍
The leaning molasses tower being gone is a good thing. The area looks nice and neat now. When it gets cold how thick does the molasses get and does it pump ok then? Thanks for the quick visit, it hit the spot.
Any reason you don’t use a drop down ramp on your cattle trailer ? Surely it’d be far easier to load cattle that way, no big step for them to tackle. All livestock trailers here have drop down/ ramp doors 👍
Stupid question I know but what keeps the molasses from freezing during the winter ? I didn’t see any heater for the tank or did I miss it ? Have a great weekend !
Molasses has a high sugar content, which means that it doesn't freeze ... don't know how cold it needs to be. If you mix sugar in water, the sugar mixture does not freeze as fast as the clear water
@@Michael-8903 Thank you !! I probably should have known that. However, I had a wintering hummingbird in the winter of 1991. Even in north Alabama, it gets cold enough to freeze. I mixed ¼ of sugar to 1 cup of water and boiled it together. It managed to freeze overnight. I had to bring it in at night and put it back out before daybreak. I even got a heater lamp and put it quite close to the feeder within inches to keep it above freezing. The hummingbird would just sit on the feeder near the heater off and on all day to stay warm. Molasses must have a much lower freezing point because where Eric is in PA, it probably gets below freezing day and night most of the winter. Thanks again for your response and not calling me stupid. 😁
I take it the molasses you use on the farm is a bit thinner than I remember. I used to have a heck of a time mixing it with cattle and horse feed when I took care of my neighbors livestock.
Quite crazy to think many years ago i thought cows just eat in pastures as normal and then get milked. Looking at you details there is a lot more then just milking :) Thank you for the videos, keep em coming.
Hi Eric great to see you experimenting with th monty. We’ve been cross breeding now for 20 years and the monty out the Holstein are a good animal great in solids but can be temperamental to milk. In my opinion Swedish red is the ultimate crossbreed good in solids and yield as well as a Holstein. It all depends on what your trying to achieve. Great video keep up the good work
Nice job as always thanks for all you do. Was that a tornado siren going off in the video? I'm out here in tornado ally and I hear them when they go off but man that one was going for ever.
Eric and his dad seem to keep the heffers rotated quite regularly. If they're not cutting it they will sell them. They make quite a bit of trips with heffers/cows to a seller/buyer
Great video! I got my 10th gen shirt in the mail the other day I love it and the best part is it got here in days and I'm in Wisconsin! I'm very happy with the shirt and how fast the shipping was I would highly recommend going and getting one for yourself!!👍
Hey 10th before you put on those rubber slip ons put a plastic Walmart bag over you leather boots then the rudder boots will slide on and off super easy.
The only worry that I would have is a power outage with the new setup. It looks great and looks like it works really well. Are you going to cover the pump to protect it from the rain?
I really love how clean and organized your farm is. It really sets you apart. No old rusty unused equipment sitting around, no piles of junk. It just looks great.
Just looked at your subscriber numbers and realized I started before you reached 25,000. Wow! What an amazing growth in your channel.
Congrats to you and the wife on baby #2 hope everything goes well and may the baby be blessed with great health and we all know a “Great Family Too”…..take care
Fifth Cut!? I am jealous haha we got 3 this year! 😂 Still looks nice and green out there! Good luck with that fifth cut!
Its really a good year. My uncles made 800 hay rounds bails in 3 three cutting. It will be a 4th at the end of October.
I’am french Farmer and the montbéliarde is a french cows, is a good cow for milk and beef
my grandfather (1885-1966) wore shoe covers like that. my grandmother would remind him to put on his "rubbers".
😂 it was also a term used for a different purpose as well.
Just a thought, if you can find a plastic coolman cooler and cut out the end areas to allow for the piping, it should give protection for the pump from rain and help in keeping from freezing.
Love the looks of that brown marked calf!!
Excellent choice for crossing your cows .🏴🇬🇧

Listening to Alister Begg by chance? I learn every time he preaches! Thanks, brother.
Yup good catch!

It's farming if they're not producing they costing money

very nice video. Can't wait to see the next video. Thank you Eric for letting us follow you around and for the awesome job that you do on the farm
Those BKT tires look like good tires.
Thank u for a great video.
Glad you got new boots, worried he old ones were going to end up a flip-flops
Are you gonna have to put a cover of some sort over the motor for the molasses tank to protect it from weather?
Those BKT tires are indian company, love from india , keep doing it well done bro 👍👏
Good video, I know you’re busy with having another kid. Thanks fir the content

I do believe the tool box lid is open on the disk bine's hitch. You might want to check it before hitting the field.
1st plate to the left of the one you replaced looks like it's cracked in half right at the bend
Another great video
Love the chocolate milk cow (brown/white cafe) lol
Nice calming video I loved it thanks 😊
You should add viking red too, they're robbust and long life cattle
I have 80 of holstein x viking red wich is now still producing at 8th lactation
Congrats on the little one on the way. Love your vids

My grandparents dairy farmed until a few years ago and we had pretty much all red and white cattle, now we have red Angus
Great vídeo.
LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS ERIC HAVE A BLESSED DAY
Well done.
Your vídeos have more quality than most farming documentaries
Johnny has got some sweet new sneakers! Cool new calf to. Good video Eric
Wonderful molasses blasting pump. Would you expect it's flow to decrease durning winter cold weather? Would a coil pipe heater be in order?
Little more brown on the new calf you will be able to milk pure chocolate milk right on the farm. 🤣🤣lol.
BROKEN PLATE. THAT MEANS THE OTHER HALF IS OUT IN THE FIELD SOME WHERE FOR YOU TO HIT SOME TIME
Montbulard is a good milker I milked for my old boss and the heffers off them milked really good nice quiet animal
“Oh, wow”, I needed that laugh. Blessings to you and yours.

Loved "Hey! Don't do that!" Pretty sure every dairy farmer says that a couple times a day
Just found you on you tube.
Worked on a farm 50 years ago. Nothing like yours.
Always amazed at all the different jobs that need doing every day. It would have like to see.the cattle sales
There is 10 year study showing the benefits of cross breeding Procross
Why don't you keep a few bull calves, for future breeding? Great video!👍👍👍👍👍

New tires AND New boots, nice..
So how's that pump going to work under three feet of snow
Need to put a cover on it
Those BKT Tires are nice tires have 2 tractors with them and 4 bobcats with them
He a really nice bull calf I use to raise beef cows

Well I do feel sad for the cows going to be sold....😢. And yes,I love my beef too...lol
It’s what’s for dinner. Circle of life and all. It would only be fair that when I die a cow should get to eat me. 😂
Love your videos molasses pump very efficient 😳
Nice job as always thanks for all you do. Was that a tornado siren going off in the video? I'm out here in tornado ally and I hear them when they go off but man that one was going for ever.
How long does that tank of molasses last before you have to refill??
I thought molasses was thicker than that. I've learnt something. Great content 👌
It can be, this stuff is thinned out so it flows better.
Thanks for the video God bless you enjoy
It will slow down when it gets 20* or colder 🥶😶🌫️
5th lactation isn't old. We have cows with 8 to 10 but the produce less milk
Eric and his dad seem to keep the heffers rotated quite regularly. If they're not cutting it they will sell them. They make quite a bit of trips with heffers/cows to a seller/buyer
We have been doing a montbiliard as well as a sweetish red but haven’t had any red ones yet

Why is it so satisfying putting new parts on one of the machines? 😁
Congratulations on your baby.!
Good video,,,never boring
Doesn't Molasses thicken up in winter making it harder to pump out for your feed? Just curious.
Red and White Holsteins please. They are the cutest damn calves on the planet.
Isn't other almost completely worn plate need replaced? Rather not have broken piece in field.
10 dollars for that molasses pump? WOW! Sounds hotter than a two dollar pistol!
Lovely but how do measure it out bases on just doing so much or weight or is there a gauge that tells you how many oz has left the pipe
Hey 10th before you put on those rubber slip ons put a plastic Walmart bag over you leather boots then the rudder boots will slide on and off super easy.
Mmmmmm 323 makes good Steaks n Burgers ;)
Sould put wagen first hay or straw. Melas is last part of mixing
Your pronunciation of "montbéliarde" is funny from France haha
The only worry that I would have is a power outage with the new setup. It looks great and looks like it works really well. Are you going to cover the pump to protect it from the rain?
And cover especially from the snow!
the cows can go without it for a feeding
Harvester silo requires power as well. I'm sure they feed them from PTO driven mix if power outage.
You should find a way to make the switch for the pump on a remote. Then you can see the scale good and run it remotely.
